The parking was limited but we were lucky to find a spot right away. The shop is decorated nicely with automobile memorabilia. There are plenty of sandwich options and some good coffee and tea choices on the menu. The Bay Area brisket was delicious. We brought our dogs so we sat in the back gravel seating. Woke up Saturday morning and wanted something different for breakfast - why not grilled cheese sandwiches? Shift Coffee is located on Del Paso Blvd, next to the now closed Southpaw Sushi. Upon entering, it was very smoky from what I can only assume was from them cooking the brisket. We ordered the Iced Barry White Mocha, Firehouse 20, Capitol Sunrise and Da Philly. The coffee was great and not too sweet. I was a fan of the Capitol Sunrise, but not so much of Da Philly. While I am a fan of grilled cheese sandwiches, I don't believe that any ingredient works in them which is how I felt about Da Philly. I like Shift's concept overall, but I don't know if I would come back for the food. I would definitely come back for the coffee and service though! I also liked seeing all of the old school motorcycle memorabilia. The inside feels like a less uptight local coffee shop that I actually want to hang out in and to have that in my neighborhood is awesome! My husband and I came on a Saturday morning before taking our dogs for a walk. I decided to try one of their specialty cold brews, which was s'more themed. My husband opted for his classic black coffee, plain. We each ordered one of their breakfast sandwiches - one with Carnitas and pico de gallo vibes and the other with jalapeños and a brisket vibe. We ended up sharing our sandwiches with each other, each eating half. The sandwiches were delicious and filling and everything we hoped they would be. Had this place book marked for at least a year but never knew where it was. Well this morning I made the trek and it's next door to South Paw Sushi another spot I have book marked lol. The interior is decorated with motorcycle memorabilia and is clean and cool looking. Shift specializes in grilled cheese sandos and coffee what a fabulous combination. I tried the current drink special a pistachio latte and it was exceptional. The Del Paso grilled cheese with eggs, avocado and carnitas eats more like a sandwich the a grilled cheese but it was tasty. We traveled a good 10 minutes back to our office and the sandwich was still super crispy and delicious. Shift is great for coffee and eats, can't wait to try more of the menu. We got the Bay Area Brisket, Del Paso Del Sol, and Cali Cruiser. For drinks, I got the month special, Rose Garden Latte and my boyfriend got the chai latte. My boyfriend is a big fan of cheese and sandwiches, hence why we got three to try! We both liked the Bay Area Brisket the best and would recommend that if you came here. The Del Paso Del Sol is a good sandwich if you want a mix of different textures and flavors and reminded us of what's inside a breakfast burrito. The Cali Cruiser is probably best for someone who likes a chicken sandwich. I did like the jalapeño chips included in the sandwich itself, but ended up eating them first. The rose garden latte was the right amount of floral and recommend you trying if it's still a special. The chai latte was more on the milky side, but still held its ground. I ended up ordering the Classic build your own sando with smokey cheddar and jalapeño jack cheese on sourdough bread. I was happy to hear that they use Truckee sourdough bread! The sandwich was grilled to perfection-- buttery, crispy on the outside & cheesy/ chewy on the inside. I also ordered a cup of tomato soup. The soup even had Parmesan cheese sprinkled in it. The soup was good for dipping my sandwich in. I opted to try their featured seasonal drink, the Caramel apple spiced iced latte. The latte was very tasty and the house-made apple spiced syrup was delicious! As a first time customer I am happy to express that my experience at Shift Coffee House was very welcoming, enjoyable and satisfying. It's a little bit hidden but don't let that stop you from exploring this place! So upon walking into the restaurant I was immediately gravitated to all their cool decoration and cute nicknacks on the menu bar. The low intensity lighting is giving a peace and calming atmosphere. There is even seating outside the restaurant where there is more light and it feels really nice to be able to get fresh air while still smelling all the deliciousness coming out their front doors! Their menu had a moderate variety of drinks with add ons and flavors, as well breakfast/lunch food items. Since I'm a new customer the barista at the counter was very friendly and helpful, she suggested I try their Salted Caramel Latte and their Capitol Sunrise Grilled Cheese Sandwich. She was also able to accommodate the drink to my liking by making it an iced drink. I was out the doors about 10 minutes or so after placing my order which was nice to know that the employees are fast and efficient in their craft. When I got to eating my sandwich I couldn't help but notice that my grilled cheese sandwich was huge and hefty! I took apart the sandwich from the middle where they cut it in half and I saw the longest cheese pull ever! The scent that lingered my table was all sorts of delightful. The toasted bread with eggs, spinach, bacon and melted cheese is a 10/10!!! The sip of my Salted Caramel Latte was strong and full of flavor that it quickly opened up my eyes giving me a burst of energy to continue on my day, it deserves a rating of 12/10! I remember liking this place a lot last time we came many years ago, but the location is a bit out of the way so we never made our way back. We were wanting grilled cheese and coffee so naturally this place was the first one I thought of. We came on a Friday morning right after they opened but it seemed like only one guy was working all by himself. We didn't see a second girl come until much later after our order had already come out. I felt bad since it seemed he was struggling with online orders not coming through and I even saw a few customers leave upset because it took too long to either place an order or to actually get their order. He didn't seem super sincere about apologizing to them but I also think he was just so overwhelmed. We had come before the rush and it still took 25 minutes to get our two drinks and two sandwiches, so I can't imagine how much longer it took other people to get their orders. They have a really extensive variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, savory or sweet. None of them have prices on the menu though so I was pretty shocked that our simple order of two sandwiches and two drinks came out to $38. The Del Paso Del Sol is really tasty with the salsa and avocado paired with the carnitas. The French Connection is like a French toast meets grilled cheese. I liked the hint of sweetness of the French Connection, but kinda got tired of it easily. I would order the Del Paso again because of all the different flavors. I had a Lucky Chai which I found out about on their Instagram page. They have a seasonal drink that changes every month so this was the last time for this one. I wasn't sure how mint would pair with chai but it worked! It was creamy and blended well. I'm afraid many places are suffering from these same issues of short staffing and high prices so I'm still giving 4 stars, because aside from those things, the drinks and sandwiches did taste really good.
