A motorcross, grill cheese coffee house with the Beatles in the background. Unique spot! The Firehouse grill cheese was an interesting breakfast sandwich. Eggs, cheese, brisket, bacon on sourdough. Couldn't really taste the bacon but still a good grill cheese. The mocha was dark and chocolatey so the perfect pairing to the savoury cheese. This is not calorie friendly but the staff were fantastic and provided excellent service. The coffee shop was clean, tons of seating and a patio off to the side. Everything about this place was super good. The grilled cheese was unlike anything me and my boyfriend have ever tried. Very specific and we were kind of nervous to try but they were so delicious. We each got a sandwich off their menu and I got a latte that was the caramel one. The people and the service was super great you can tell they really care a lot about this place. The only downside is it takes a little bit to get your food but that's because it's made on demand for each order. The whole place is designed very nicely and we really liked the vibe. One of my favorite go-to coffee shops to grab a delicious sandwich and my usual iced mocha latte. I love coming here to study, and staff is always super friendly! My favorite sandwich is the French Connection, perfect balance of salty and sweet, and it's the perfect portion. In terms of the shop itself, staff does a great job keeping it clean, they frequently buss dishes and empty the dish bin. Bathrooms have always been clean when I use it, located outside of the shop so I believe it's shared with the building. WiFi is speedy, I've come here a few times for study groups with my classmates and we never have problems with the connection. Only reason for the docked star is I believe they may be a little short staffed right now, so service can be a bit slow in terms of getting my order. Last time I came, it took almost 30 minutes for my sandwich to be ready. Thankfully I was in no rush and was in the middle of a study session anyways, but for those who might be ordering on-the-go, you may want to consider calling your order in. Shift is a great coffee spot. I love how committed they are to their specific theme of Formula 1 racing, it makes it a fun experience. They say they specialize in grilled cheese and they do! I kept it simple and chose my own cheese and bread instead of one of their creations. I'm going back, I need to try more! It was fantastic! I had the Bugatti Royale latte and it was heavenly. Warning, this is based off my experience. I acknowledge that it could've been just an off day/need to try more options. However my experience wasn't so pleasant. For my sandwich all I could taste was cheese. As you can see from my photo it has a few ingredients inside, however the ratio of cheese or perhaps it was just really strong cheese but it was all I can taste in my sandwich. Was looking forward to the combination of the other ingredients inside to elevate this sandwich. The coffee was okay. Didn't wow me in anyway, but at least it looks pretty. The inside was very clean and cool/comfy. Front desk was also good to me Overall I'm giving a ~2/5 based off my experience. Absolutely love the ambiance of this place. They've got a whole vintage automobile theme going on here and it's cool. I ordered the O.D.Bee which was refreshing and not too bitter nor sweet. Due to an internet outage at home, I took myself to Shift to continue WFH. I've been wanting to check this place out so it felt like a happy accident. They don't have the most extensive menu, but I didn't mind it. They had all the usual hits and then some specialty drinks. I got the white chocolate berry latte iced with oat milk. It was the perfect level of sweetness. I set up at a the penny table by the window and enjoyed the atmosphere while I worked. The baristas were very friendly and helpful. They have indoor and outdoor covered patio seating. They were apparently voted best grilled cheese in Sacramento, so of course I had to order one. I had the "Garden Highway" which contained eggs, mushrooms, and spinach in French bread. It was perfectly crispy and melty. Yum! They have a variety of breakfast, sweet, and savory options, in addition to baked goods. I also ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee. It was great! Not a bland tomato soup! I ordered the bay brisket and he ordered the sandwich with mushrooms. Super delicious-I kept dipping my sandwich into the soup or drinking it after a couple of bites. Towards the end it got a little too overwhelming for me with the cheese and grease but husband gladly took the little remains. Will definitely return! The coffee was good and although was expensive, it was pretty large and the unique flavors was well crafted. I always look at the coffee machine and grinder-- both were kept clean, so that tells me they care about the quality. The sandwiches were toasted to perfection, but be aware, you'll smell like grilled cheese until you shower and change clothes! Spent over $35 for 2 grilled sandwiches and a drink.
