Food was pretty good! Owner was there and made the experience less than great. Our first time there and immediately he hands us his business cards and tells us to like on IG. We hadn't even had a beer yet! But that was ok. Again the food was pretty good. Izakaya style dishes. But towards the end of our meal and by now the other guests had gone, we were doing our final cheers and good byes, the owner was standing about 8 feet away and just glaring at us to leave. It was ridiculous because it was Tuesday night and they close at 10pm and it was only 10:15!! And we had spent enough money for him not to do that. My gf can speak Japanese and over heard him telling his staff that we were rude customers. Ridiculous and we will never come back here again. read more

Spacious restaurant with a date night ambience but not so fancy that you have to dress up. We really enjoyed all the raw preparations, the scallop carpaccio and kaisen chirashi were really good! The grilled oysters were prepared very well with a soy preparation. The karaage was tasty but nothing super special. We didn't really enjoy some of the other cooked preparations as much. The mackarel roll was really fishy and end thinner pieces were overcooked. The rice was very flavorful but crumbled making it difficult to eat together. We also ordered the kushi katsu and I definitely would not order that again. Coating was really lackluster and the pork inside was a thin sliced pork wrapped around the skewer. The owner, Shuji, is so welcoming and kind - he comes to each table to describe daily specials and shows photos on his phone. His wife is the main chef. They are from Kyoto. I went here with my girlfriend (a Japanese citizen) and other friends. We all agree that Shigoten is an absolute must try for anyone who loves authentic Japanese food and high quality sushi. A lot of the seafood is imported directly from Kyoto and the dishes are meticulously crafted. I will come back everytime I am in Vegas. Some notable dishes (12/10) Sakura Box ($55): The freshness of the fish is unbelievable. Of course the chutoro is going to be high quality but even the meguro was some of the most tender and juicy we've had in the US. If you love sushi, you must try this (10/10) Hokkaido Uni Pasta ($45): Very fresh and very creamy. The pasta is also really chewy. (10/10) Salmon Belly hand roll (~$7): Super fatty and tender. (10/10) Sweet shrimp in soy sauce ($13): If you love sweet shrimp - this is a must try. We loved it but for those that have never had this - it is not fully cooked. (10/10) Sweet Potato Ice-cream: They painstakingly bake a Japanese sweet potato for 2 hours while slowly turning it by hand every 10-20 minutes. The sweet potato is so sweet and the ice cream pairing is great. This is a testament to the attention to detail at this restaurant. (15/10) The Owner: Honestly such an amazing man. He creates a very welcoming atmosphere. We spent roughly $90 per person all in after food and sake because there were so many things we wanted to try. What a great Japanese izakaya spot! We went on a Thursday night and the restaurant was empty, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves and the owner and waiters were extremely attentive. I think it was only empty because they're fairly new but that won't last. Ambiance was nice and decoration minimalistic. Cute for date night. I loved everything we ordered and they had a fairly extensive menu. We ordered: Sweet shrimp 5/5 very tasty... ok the absolute best part of this was that they asked if we wanted the heads fried and duh of course we did !!! It was so delicious as they sprinkled on a little salt w the tempura heads Spicy miso oyster 4/5 Mentaiko pasta 4.5/5 perfect balance of sauce and pasta and it was very butttery Chu toro w uni hand roll 5/5 Oh toro hand roll 5/5 I have a slight suggestion but it might be a stupid one. I wished they would brush on just a liiitttle bit of soy sauce so I don't need to dunk it into my own. Please don't hate me Chefs :( Grilled Saba 4.5/5 i hate how normal places prep mackerel but this was done perfectly. The rice was very good but it fell apart when it was picked up. Maguro 3 ways 5/5 everything was fresh as can be. The three types of wasabi was amazing. This place has top quality food. I've been here twice so far and will be coming back frequently. We've had the hand rolls, potato salad, karaage, Chanko, grilled egg plant, garlic shrimp fried rice, salmon Kama and the salmon toast. All items were 4.5 to 5 out of 5 stars. The hand rolls are unmatched. Only suggestion as a personal preference would be to add a wider variety of cooked food such as tempura or expand the yakitori selection. read more

Recently came here with my friend and will definitely be back.  Was at first  disappointed with the small menu as I am used to the ten pages or more menus and I love to eat but that quickly flew out the window after the first bite. Everything was high quality and every dish was made with their best effort.  We ordered 2 Kaisen bowls, Japanese style pasta, oysters, and karaage.  Everything was amazing.  Kaisen bowls had the softest and melt in your mouth like butter raw fish (tuna, salmon, etc). No fishy taste at all and everything top quality. We left no rice on the bowls.  My new top restaurant when it comes to quality. Karaage was super soft and juicy.  It literally rips apart.  Oysters were grilled on a leaf and was also great.  Pasta had a familiar taste but was wonderful. But the best part of the restaurant was the owner. Super nice.  He explained each dish to us and the other customers.  I told him that my friend speaks Japanese so he kept coming back to have a conversation with us.  Of course I barely understood as I can only understand a bit of Japanese but he always brought me into the conversation.  He told us that he moved to Vegas with his wife on Oct 2019 and his chefs came from Hawaii. read more
