We came here on a Wednesday evening and the place was very quite , we came up to the ordering little counter and the guy helping us was very nice and welcomed us very nicely because he knew it was our first time. Service was great ! It's self seating so you sit were you want , and wait until they call your name and you go and pick up your little basket . I was happy that they had the different type of sauce bottles on the table and I didn't have to walk up anywhere to get more sauce so that was awesome! And they have little wipes sitting in this little bucket to clean yourself after a delicious messy lunch or dinner, they have a lot of seating and the decor is so cute they have red and white checkered tables and gotten a whole bunch or awards and trophies for competitions they have been in that are showcased in the seating area, so when I saw all of them I knew it was gonna be great . I ordered the 1 meat special that comes with two sides , I ordered the beef brisket and apple pie baked beans and the green chile mac and cheese! OMGGGG!!! The baked beans were AMAZING ! Like nothing I've had before the baked beans had pieces of applie pie in it and omg delicious . I'm obsessed with green chiles jalapenos , basically anything spicy so I had to get the mac and cheese and it was amazing as well , with the little pieces of green chiles it gave it the perfect little kick. The beef brisket was sooo good honestly probably one of the best I've had !!! And then it came with a garlic toast that was perfect , it wasn't burned or hard just nice and soft how I like it and fresh . im so craving it again right now ! I prefer Texas BBQ and rarely eat BBQ outside of Texas. Friend found this place and the name drew me in. Anyone willing to use a little pun in their name is worth a visit. The place did not disappoint. I had the 4 bones and meat platter. Pork ribs were meaty and juicy and I was able to sample the three BBQ sauces on the table. For the meat I chose the pulled chicken. Tender and juicy and very tasty. I also tried the Mac n cheese with green chiles. Yikes. Awesome. If you ever get to Fort Wayne you need to give it a try. While in Ft Wayne for work I had a taste for BBQ and Yelp suggested Shigs in Pit (which the name made me laugh). Great price for the amount of food. I went with the brisket and the jalapeno sausage. With some cole slaw. The food was phenomenal! I also enjoyed the three BBQ sauce options. Brisket was very sot, easy to cut with a fork. The cole slaw had a bit of a horseradish taste. I love horse radish and cole slaw, so it was perfect. Even the garlic bread was good. I liked this place (and the name) so much I bought a t-shirt. My only complaint is I would have preferred an actual waitress I'm not a big fan of the whole order at this window and pick up at this window. Seems like a ballpark set up. I used to love this place, but sadly it seems to be going downhill. Went with some friends on a Tuesday night for dinner before a show at the Embassy. I ordered pulled pork with apple pie baked beans and corn spoon bread. The spoon bread was OK but the pork was tough and a little burnt. The beans were terrible. It was like they had been burned in the pan, put away in a cooler, brought back out and burned again. I had high expectations based on all of the reviews, especially since I haven't found a good BBQ place since moving to Fort Wayne. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. It started off with unattended employees who spent more time laughing at something than listening to my order. I genuinely felt like I was talking to a wall, especially when I had to repeat myself. Still, I was willing to give it a chance. I got the chopped chicken sandwich, which was mostly filled with fatty, slimy chicken with little flavor. My husband got the brisket, which I found to be slightly dry. Coming from the South, I was really hoping to find an awesome BBQ place in Fort Wayne. Sadly, this just missed the mark. Great restaurant for BBQ. I ordered the two meat plate with the burn ends brisket and pulled pork. If I did it again I would get more of the burnt ends and skip the pulled pork. The burnt ends were amazing. The sides I ordered were the spoon corn bread and Mac and cheese. Both were awesome! Service was friendly and fast! If you stop into the restaurant, you will immediately be taken back by the amazing smell. You can find red and white checkered tables and banners up on the walls from numerous awards they have won! The staff is always super friendly and the service is prompt. You order at the counter and they call your name when your order is up. My two favorite items from the menu are the pulled pork and the green chili mac n' cheese, you must try! Top it off with their tangy, original or hot BBQ sauce and you have the perfect meal. I ordered the half slab of ribs and I loved every bite: the meat was tasty, as tender as any ribs I've ever had; the house made barbecue sauces were delicious. The sides (mac 'n cheese with jalapenos and coleslaw were excellent. When we arrived I was hungry. I left stuffed and with a box containing about a third of the huge portion of ribs. Green chili mac and cheese, apple pie baked beans, spicy coleslaw, and homemade sweet fridge vinegar and onion pickles were all excellent sides. Each time I got two meat and was surprised at how good the chopped chicken was. The burnt ends brought me back, though. The cheesy jalapeño sausage was excellent, as well. The pulled pork was only half-heartedly pulled, so I had to get a knife and the rib sampler was too dry to consider more ribs. Service was a little off, seemingly staffed by people who haven't tried the food, because they can't make recommendations or are just killing time waiting for something else. If someone from sip reads this, use that impression to light a fire under your staff to not treat customers like they are eating into your busy standing around audibly sighing time. Fantastic bbq in a little hole in the wall place. Came here with the family, we tried everything. Brisket, pulled pork and ribs. We had many sides. The meat was smoked and seasoned to perfection. With the rub they use you don't even need sauce. But if you do like sauce they have 3 to choose from. Original, tangy and hot. All three were delicious. I felt the sides were given just as much attention as the meats. There was potato casserole, cucumber and tomato salad. The spoon corn bread and the Apple pie baked beans were excellent. But the best thing by far was the home made banana pudding. I will definitely be returning. read more

I eaten here around ten times and have loved my food each time. The ribs are awesome. Green beans have meat in them! The Mac & Cheese has little chilies mixed in that give it great flavor. I recommend getting a rack of ribs. You get two sides, get green beans and the corn/cornbread. The Big "Shig" Platter can be split among 2 people. We got ribs, 3 meats (pulled pork, sausage & brisket), bread and 2 sides. My favorite meat was the pulled pork and the jalapeño-cheddar sausage. BBQ sauce was available but the meat had flavor and was tender so it wasn't a necessity...in my opinion, that's the true test of great BBQ. I preferred the hot and original sauce after tasting. There was a tangy option but it was more liquified than I prefer for a BBQ sauce. Staff was very pleasant and helpful in reviewing popular menu items. Green beans were ok and the corn "spoon bread" was good, if you like sweet corn bread you will likely enjoy. The texture is between cornbread and a corn pudding. read more

Here's what I loved: +I love a good hole-in-the-wall, and that's exactly what you'll find here. +They have smoked ham! I'm a southern boy who grew up on smoked ham, but that's almost impossible to find in the Midwest. +Lots of delicious side choices! I went with the apple pie baked beans and coleslaw. The beans were oddly fantastic with these big chunks of apple pie filling. And the coleslaw was exactly like this fried chicken place in my hometown, so it was a lovely shot of nostalgia. +There are three sauces, one of which is very thin and vinegary. I loved having this to mix in with some of the others. I'm very appreciative that none of the sauces were ridiculously thick and sweet. +Plenty of private lot parking in the rear! Seriously, those damn change meters in FW are the bane of my existence. If you're in the area and craving smoked meat, this is the place for you! read more

I have never had burnt ends before; they were like a meat desert. The apple pie baked beans are the best baked beans I have ever had. I would say it was star of the meal. I am going to have to figure out how to make those at home. The coleslaw was very good. It was more tangy then sweet, and not runny. I could have finished my meal and been full, but I decided it was too good not to have again for lunch the next day. They also had fresh lemonade that was self-serve. You can make yourself an Arnold Palmer with the tea that have right next to the lemonade. The business was very clean on the inside. read more

We have been here several times over the last month and our experience has been consistently the same regardless of whether we have eaten the pulled pork, cubed chicken, brisket, etc. The sides are always good, the place is always busy and remarkably stays clean and tidy, but the prices are expensive and the meat is always way too dry. When the place first opened there were not many places that directly competed with Shigs In Pit combination of good BBQ, unique sides, and a warm and inviting inside dining option. However what has happened recently is the restaurant itself still has a great and warm atmosphere, and as noted above the sides are mostly always fresh and tasty, but the focus needs put back on the BBQ. The last time we were there they featured a smoked salmon sandwich. The piece of salmon was about half the size of a deck of cards and was so dry it was inedible. It should have never been served. Good salmon should always be flavorful, moist and juicy. The pulled pork sandwich was nearly $6 and does not come with anything. Sides were $2 extra and by the time you order a beverage you are around $10. Note that they do not offer any "combo" pricing that might include a sandwich, side, and beverage - everything is a la carte. During one visit the cubed smoked chicken sandwich was not at all moist and the portion size was very small. The ribs on the sampler platter were also on the dry and tough side, which was disappointing considering it was nearly $25. In past years as noted earlier this was the default go to place for good BBQ - not anymore. When your signature foods are no longer a major focus people will start to take notice. There are some notable contenders in Fort Wayne that have larger portions, juicier meats, and are much less expensive. read more

This is not just any barbeque. Shigs in Pit is mind altering, world changing barbeque. Everything that I tried was perfection. I usually do an initial testing with burnt ends and pulled pork, and I think they were the best I've ever tasted. You have to try the Apple pie baked beans and the green chile mac n' cheese. They offer three different sauces for you sauce hounds out there. Two thick sauces in both hot and mild. The other is called Tangy and is like a Carolina mop sauce (my favorite). don't get me wrong: i'm a fan, I just don't think it's all THAT. The BBQ sauce is excellent. And I needed a lot of it to cover up the dry, dry brisket and ribs. And it wasn't brisket...I have to agree with the other reviewer about it being a roast beef sandwich. I didn't like the overly thick strips (it seriously looked like bacon on a bun). The bun---sounded so good in the description but it was essentially a hot dog bun. Ok, a gourmet hot dog bun. Ribs were plentiful but D.R.Y. Macaroni salad was not cooked thoroughly ....noodles were tough and hard. Flavor is ok if it would've been edible. *sigh* read more

What we have here is BBQ fastfood. Not BBQ. I got the big shit platter. Wonderful price at $24.99 with 6 bones and 3 meats. They charge you an extra dollar if you want brisket. I would suggest you skip on the brisket. Actually, you might want to skip on more than that. I sit here with 6 bones of St. Louis ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and chopped chicken. I got coselaw, Mac and cheese, macaroni salad, and beans. Ribs: Dry at the bone. They don't cut these to order. In fact not a lot is done to order. It's all prepped ahead of time. By a microwave your order is finished. The ribs had a perfect bite but really lacked in flavor. Brisket: This is not brisket. This is roast beef they are selling to you as brisket. Absolute shit. I love brisket. They slice this shit paper thin, and it's still dry. The flavor is that of roast beef. They should slice this to order and keep it in a sham or hell a steam table but no, like all its cut, bagged to a single serving, and microwaved to order. Chicken: Keeping with the theme, it was dry. Rub was good and had the flavor so had it been In a steam pan and sitting in some juice it would be perfect. Instead they bag it and microwave my chicken. This is BBQ fastfood. Not BBQ. Pork: Pretty good pork. Moist enough this didn't come across microwaved. Rub is pretty flavorful. In fact it's pretty bold. Making the pork good food, but not good BBQ pulled pork. Coselaw: Pretty perfect. I added pepper for my own preference but it's pretty good. Would eat again. Could be a touch creamer but still well done. Mac and cheese: green peppers save them on the flavor. Otherwise the cheese is very bland. Mac salad: tastes like Mac salad. Beans: Way too sweet. Nice compliment to a heavy meal but I don't get BBQ to eat light. This was a sweet bean side. Not BBQ beans a BBQ joint should have. Tangy sauce: A cross between BBQ sauce and Salad dressing. Like a BBQ Vinegarette. Hot: Pretty vinegary again. Not bad but could use less Worcestershire. 2 stars cause It got us full and it was under $30 for a lot of food. Probably some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time. This town used to have a place years and years ago called Brooks Ribs that had a vinegary type sauce that was amazing. Well, this place has a sauce like that as well as a couple of others too. I tried them all, and ended up dousing the entire plate with the tangy vinegar sauce and then dipping into the hot sauce.
