I appreciate the fact that their baked goods are individually wrapped so that it's easy to carry out and not worry about wrapping them on the counter when purchased. Their Bingsoo is nasty AF and gross it comes with shaved ice and ice cream yucky not my taste. My husband and daughter just want to try more places that served shaved milk flakes like the one in Ashburn called Sub ling. Which Sub ling is the very best shaved milk flakes. Which is a true shaved milk flakes and not shaved ice cream with ice cream. They do have very good breads which are the best and different to try. Sooo bad. Most unsatisfying cafe Ive been to. Got chocolate cake and chocolate bread with sweetened iced coffee and all were so bad. The chocolate cake tasted like dry sponge with absolutely no taste and the chocolate bread tasted like styrophone with brown color and the coffee tasted like 5cups of sugar with a tablespoon of water downed coffee. We have been to two other locations of shilla, one in annadale and one in fairfax. Those locations are great but dont come to this location!!! read more

Since we happened to be in the same shopping center for lunch, we dropped by this lovely little bakery. The smell upon walking in really brought me back to my childhood spent in asian bakeries so I was really excited! Plus, there were samples everywhere. Challenge ACCEPTED - must try all. I was already overstuffed with Thai food, but I suddenly felt extremely hungry again. Sadly, the first sample I put in my mouth had a large piece of hair in it. Weird, the label definitely did not say "Hair filled Bread". I was mildly disturbed (probably less than the average human would be), but it didn't stop me from trying more. Out of the ~20 different samples I tried, I actually enjoyed only 5 or 6. I ended up purchasing 3 of the 6 I liked for a total of $12.50 (some vegetable stuffed one, a creme filled one and the bacon bread). Price seems reasonable to me.... I definitely will not go out of my way to come back here, but if I do end up in the area again I will for sure go in for some (hopefully not hairy) samples again! read more

Lovely Korean bakery. I ordered the green tea bubble tea and my tongue enjoyed the sweet green tea flavor (actually it tastes similar to the one Starbucks used to make minus the boba balls). But anyways, it was delish and I enjoyed drinking this to the light sounds of techno K-pop music. Sure, why not. I tried their displayed cake slices since they have a good selection and found that the bread on their cakes are light and fluffy. The icing isn't overwhelmingly sweet like most American cakes so its very enjoyable and I highly recommend it for birthday occasions. Overall, for a korean bakery I think its pretty average and I've had better in serveral other places around CA. Maybe since I went later in the day, they ran out of a lot of the pastries. (Some of their trays were empty and I might have missed their freshly baked goods?) But, I give it an extra star since it looks like there aren't too many places like this in the DC/VA area and everyone should give it a try. read more

This is a Korean Style Bakery. What makes it different from say a Panera? Typically a few things: 1. Sweet Red Beans. They can be in all sorts of things. Where a European style bakery might use a pudding, Asian styles might use a sweet red bean. 2. Having raised in the states, it's a odd dicotomy, their sweet things to me feel like they are less sweet than if made my an american. So a cake to me doesn't feel as sweet as an american cake, conversely things that lean on the savory scale seem to me have more sweetness than the american counterpart. Your results may vary and so this is not die hard rule. My family & friends came in for Pat Bing Su. Shaved ice with a variety of toppings. We ordered the strawberry Bing su and the Green Tea Bing Su and classic red bean. All three were delicious, nice fluffy shaved ice and both tasted very much of their respective ingredients. It was a fairly large bowl and makes a nice refreshing dessert. This would be even better if you were hot. Very reasonable prices for the bing su and makes for a very different dessert. read more

I can't believe I discovered this place so late. I've live in Fairfax for over 20 years, and had never heard of Shilla. While pregnant, I was desperately craving Yougen Fruz frozen yogurt, but at last, Reston was too far of a trek for me. After reading some reviews, I discovered Shilla had a similar product. My expectations were somewhat low, but to to my surprise their frozen yogurt ice cream was almost exactly the same. In addition, they had tons of others sweets and Bubble tea. My three year son loves their croissants,, which are a little softer and sweeter than the Vietnamese kinds. It little pricier but worth it since he can be picky. I really love that their cakes are light and not sickly sweet. Since my first visit three months ago, I probably go at least once a week now. What a great find, and only 5 minutes from my house. A lovely little bakery in Centreville! Not only do they have cakes and pastries, but a delicious variety of Korean baked breads. I came here on Mother's day to pick up an emergency cake and they had just what I was looking for. The cake was a delicious mocha with cream filling. Aaaaand they have boba tea! Free samples gives it a star. They have ample samples. Besides the samples, Shilla doesn't necessarily stand out among the Korean bakeries in Centreville... BUT we come for the samples. And then we end up ordering boba tea and patbingsoo. I love Coffee bingsoo. All the Boba teas taste pretty much the same. All Boba teas in Nova are alright. Annandale Shilla is the best (perhaps because they have the most samples). Second, Centrevlle Shilla... Third, Fairfax Shilla. My favorite bread is the Yogurt bread. I have yet to review Shilla Bakery? Oh where have I been! Sorry to have neglected you, my go-to Korean bakery spot. I've returned to scribble a few words for you now. I grew up with Shilla Bakery around the corner from my house when I was still living in Maryland. So you bet I was excited to find one so close to my house once I moved to VA. It's my go-to Korean bakery, with each pastry and baked goods always served with such consistency. I've been loyal to Shilla before other, more hip, Korean bakeries pop around the DMV area. With the wooden furnitures and dim lighting, the mix of old and young crowd, I've collected many nostalgic memories with friends and family hanging out around a warm cup of green tea latte and some pastries. My usual go-to? The variety of baked goods in the self-serve area that we usually keep for breakfast/snack throughout the week -- though I've been good and cut this habit out, it was pure childhood memories! The cakes, rolled cakes, and sweet pastries from their pastry case is also never disappointing (except 10 minutes before closing time -- but who can blame them). Not too sweet, pretty to look at, fun to eat. I mean, everything you can ask for when craving for comforting Korean baked goods! Their custom cake is always ON POINT. Every year I buy at least one cake from them to celebrate someone's celebration, including my own! The cake is always moist, never too sweet, and SO FLUFFY. I can't recommend getting a cake from here enough. At an average of $35-$40, it's worth it! This Centreville location is always a bit messy, and the self-serve stock is pretty much nonexistent past 8pm. First the Taro Boba is really good, and I've had many Taro Boba. Even the boba itself is at a good consistency. Not to hard or soft. Never had Bing Soo until here and that stuff is good. I thought Shilla Bakery was alright. I went with my mom to get some food before trying their dessert but the cafe was a total miss for me. We wanted to share the bulgogi wrap but they were out of bulgogi so we ended up getting the sesame ginger chicken wrap instead. The ingredients were fresh & it was a decent wrap but essentially it was just chicken, lettuce, carrot, & tomato with a ton of sesame ginger dressing on it so nothing special. You could definitely make it at home, probably better. I liked that it came with yummy tofu chips though! I also got the honey plum tea which was good but a little too sweet for me (there was lots of syrup left over at the bottom). Next we got the red bean bing soo which was really good! It was definitely the highlight of our meal. The condensed milk on the shaved ice & the mochi mixed in were yummy. I wish they used fresh fruit though, the fruit definitely tasted canned. This obv isn't like the original chain in Nova but this is one of the larger Shilla's I've been to, which is good because this really is a great cafe for people to hang out and that makes most bakeries get really noisy in peak hours (lunch, dinner, weekends). The space is ample during these times so I can at least get my food and leave. The cakes are divine, but overpriced (to be fair, Korean cakes are premium and with them being kinda uncompeted in the area, the markup can be worth it). I go there for their butter cream pastries (dolla dolla bread y'all) and refreshing bubble tea (they have a bunch of new flavors for the summer, so I recommend you try them out now!). read more

The pastries are cooked fresh everyday and they're delicious. Unfortunately, not a single Shilla, or any of the other many local Korean bakeries I also adore, can manage a proper latte, cappuccino, anything other than your standard coffee. And believe me, I've tried a number of times. The espresso is very bland and often under extracted. The milk is either burnt to hell, with loads of foam, or totally flat and foam-less. This might sound snobby but, it's a 4 dollar drink (I always get the small), and as someone whose done it before, it simply takes a little bit of time to watch a few YouTube videos and spend sometime each day to learn and understand how to make good espresso and good milk to go with it. Once one staff member knows how, he can train others and so on and so forth. Until then, you shouldn't be selling something no staff member can make properly. read more

Shilla Bakery in Centreville has an advantage over the one on Fairfax Blvd, which is that their bakery is on-site; if the Fairfax Blvd site does indeed have a bakery, then I have made the error of going to that location either too early for fresh goods, or at the wrong time all together. At the Centreville site, there is often a rolling cart of fresh, warm, very sweet pastries, buns, and bread loaves. These goodies are very nostalgic, which carries a lot of weight into the toasty feeling I have toward Shilla. There is a plethora of samples, including of the sweet bean buns, doughnuts, and croquettes, as well as the mammoth breads. i wish there was labeling about the extent to which common allergens have been included in their ingredients - like soy, peanuts, gluten (there is likely lots of gluten), etc. Most recently, I bought a fresh-from-the-oven mocha bread with almonds to bring to the baby's family in Richmond, which melted in my mouth and was a wonderful introduction to Shilla bakery for others. Great yummies also include their very very sweet iced coffee, and their adorable cakes, which would also induce emergency root canals. Staff: very friendly to me and the little baby, but I think it's really because everyone loves a baby. Con: didn't find a changing table in rest room. Korean Bakeries are my kryptonite!!! Just ask my fiance - we have to make a trip AT LEAST once a week. This Shilla location is one of my TOP favorite Korean Cafe/Bakeries in the NoVA area! TONS of samples and they don't skimp on the amounts either. Unlike the Annandale location, they keep the sample containers full most of the day - at least whenever I'm there! Location has a huge area with tons of tables including stools to face the glass outdoors. I love a lot of their breads and pastries that I can't make up my mind and end up getting full from eating TONS of samples. It's a fantastic choice if you want to try out Korean pastries and see how amazing we bake!! Cakes and roll cakes look superb and a lot to choose from. They do have food but I haven't been too thrilled. It's just a mediocre bistro like sandwich. Panini's were good from what I remember in the past but I actually had a turkey roasted red pepper wrap yesterday and it was just okay. Just stick with the pastries/bread/cakes there. For $5.25 per boba and $6.31 for other fruity flavors, the owner is very VERY cheap with ice. ICE is made with WATER for god's sake. CHEAPO with water!! Nothing has changed about this place. I visited this location for the first time on Memorial Day, and I must say I was highly disappointed with their products' quality. I ordered my favorite potato cake and the slice a staff gave me wasn't fresh at all. I initially ordered two slices, but when staff said one is a bit hard since it's frozen, I decided to get just one piece instead; however, even that unfrozen slice was stale, and the other bread I purchased was the same. I spent over $100 that day which was a big waste for me. I do not recommend this location at all, primarily if the bakery can't even provide a fresh product. read more

This past weekend, I went in to get some bread while waiting for my table at Iron Age, I noticed how dirty the floors were and everything seemed so messy and not organized. It's a good place to go to pick up some fresh bakery treats, study, or chat with a friend. The prices are a little high but I guess you are paying for the opportunity to sit around and chat too. The Shillas in Centerville is OK. I come here whenever I have a hankering for pastries since the Centreville location is close by (I prefer Annandale's location better). Pastries are good, my favorite is the minced meat and veggie bun and sometimes the pizza/hot dog pastries. My go-to sweet pastries are the twisted donut. In regards to bubble tea/boba. It's a hit or miss. The Thai Ice tea is not that great and sometimes the mango and honey dew are good and sometimes it isn't. I just hate how their bobas aren't really consistent like their Annandale location. I've never had anything else here and I haven't tried their bing-soo. Service is okay. Their not the most friendliest but their alright. Maybe if you're Korean they'll be a little nicer (just sayin). Also, Centreville's location doesn't have as much variety as Annadale's. read more

I ordered a thai ice tea boba tea but for some reason they completely forgot about my drink (even though I was standing in front of the cashier area for what seems like forever). Finally what seemed to be the manager noticed & got someone to make my drink for me right away. They rush you with your order & seem to not care to answer questions from other customers. This guy was trying to ask the cashier girl what a boba tea was & she looked really annoyed by him so I ended up explaining it to him & told him that it was really good. The food may be good, but if I am treated like a nothing I really don't see why I should spend money there. If I ever decide to visit again I plan on treating them the same way they treated me, no respect. read more
