Great service and Great food! My GF and I went in for an early dinner on my birthday. We sat at the teppan bar and even thought it was only two of us the food and service was great! The place ended up getting busier and had more of a cool party atmosphere when we left, good times we will be back! Next time I am going to order more veggies as they were so good that I wanted more! read more

We wanted a more authentic teppan experience not benihana so we decided to try this place. Friendly staff a little rushed atmosphere. The show the great but the food was so salty he just kept putting salt and soy sauce on everything he cooked my vegetables till they were soggy and disintegrating and the seed oils? He just poured on that gmo vegetable oil or whatever it was and cooked my food at high heat till all I could taste was salt. I had a bad headache after . My shrimp was dried out my daughter got the steak it was cooked good but no one else liked the rice or vegetables very disappointed won't be back . read more

Had a great dinner at Shima. Great service and the food is delicious. Ambiance is nothing special, but again, the food is really tasty and they have an extensive menu with sushi, rolls and teppan. I had the filet and chicken combo, which comes with fried rice, soup and salad ($28). The chef cooked the food perfectly and the fried rice is the best I've had. We went here on a last minute whim on a Friday night. We called to make reservations for two and they had an available spot only 45 minutes out. The chef put on an amazing show. He was funny, engaging and cooked the food perfectly. We sat with a family who were fun so I'm sure that helped. Definitely love this place! Never disappointed! Just like Benihana but a smaller family restaurant size. You get the show while they are cooking your order which is always fun! I love the teriyaki steak, it is very juicy and tasty. My husband usually gets the steak and lobster. Meals come with salad, soup, rice, veggies, shrimp and protein of choice. Price is pretty consistent with what you'd typically pay for a place like this. read more

We been coming to this place since open and we really want to succeed because is close to us and it's more affordable than Benihana but the service fluctuates the ladies are usually rude and not very welcoming when we come in. Plus the place is really dirty and greasy I wish they would do a good cleaning once in a while. Plus the food that used to be good lost taste and that is a bummer plain teppanyaki no way. A little observation that made me lose my appetite the chef cooking the food touches the food with his hands oftentimes and that is okay if he has gloves or clean hands but this chef had long dirty nails and that for me was the end. Please have short clean nails or gloves when you're cooking for others. read more

Upon walking in the space is extremely small with little room to walk or move. The decor has been updated slightly but ambiance is just ok. The staff is extremely rude and unpleasant. I made a reservation and was running late and called to let them know I'd be a few late ( 8minutes to be exact) The rice was good but the chef put on zero show for us like you'd typically expect. Overall food was decent hence the 2 star but they need to find new staff that want to give people a welcome feeling. read more

Decided last minute to try this restaurant out for Valentine's Day. We called ahead of time and were booked for 7:45pm. When walking inside it seemed to be complete chaos. The place was packed with the staff running around and multiple people waiting to be seated. No one was around to greet us when walking in. The cash register was all the way in the back and I had assumed that would be the place to check in. As we patiently waited for the person at the register to acknowledge us, that never happened. I had to call out the her while she kept walking away and then back to the counter and quickly checked out names on the list and told us it would be about 20 min. I tried asking her how this was so, since we were there right on time and she ignored me and walked away. I was very displeased with the service, so rude!! Given that it was Valentine's Day I decided we would wait it out and not try for another crowded place. Normally I would have walked out being treated in such a way. Finally after about 20-30 min we were seated. It took another additional 15 min before we were served out drinks and the starters before our meals were cooked. We ordered with the waiter , I ordered the filet mignon and scallops and my bf ordered the filet mignon and shrimp, bother medium rare. The chef announced out orders to each of us and somehow was told my bf ordered the steak and chicken .. I had to correct him and tell him it was shrimp, not chicken. After he had cooked all the food and served my steak I noticed my bf Gad not yet gotten his and that everyone else did after me. Not sure how they messed up the way he wanted his steak cooked and he ended up getting his cooked well done. I had wished the chef confirmed how we wanted our steaks cooked to avoid the second mistake. My bf still enjoyed his steak although it wasn't as tender as he'd like, and I enjoyed my meal. Portions were great, quality of the food was great and this is the only reason I'm giving this place more than a one star. Everything else about this place sucked. Even our chef was boring. The other chefs at other tables seemed to be funny and out going. Not sure that I would recommend this place to anyone. And for such a cheap looking place and how bad the service was, prices were def a little too high. I've been to much nicer places and paid the same for better service, atmosphere and food.. read more

Celebrated my Birthday at Shima and had the Tepanyaki set dinner. Would like to show our appreciation to our Chef for the evening Mr Sam Yann, who not only cooked great food but also gave us such a wonderful evening. Been to Shima a few times over the last 2-3 years and tonight's dinner cooked by him was the best by far. Especially loved the King Prawns. Really glad we picked this place for the evening. It's fun and great. Listen if you don't make a reservation for Friday, Saturday or Sunday dinner hours you can't get mad you and your party of 8 are having to wait. So what had happened was: My companion and I decided we wanted to get dinner around 530pm on. Saturday. We've been here a handful of times MIDWEEK with no reservations and were seated immediately. But this Saturday Everywhere else had a 3-4hr wait. But we waited maybe 1hr here. We were told 30mins but they kept bringing us beers so we were fine with it. We were watching the poor staff getting yelled at because a unreserved party was waiting over 30mins. So we just hid in the corner of the sushi bar to stay out of their way. Once seated we received more drinks, and appetizers super fast. We were seated with a young family and a single gentleman. The chef was there to to entertain the young family. We were just there for the good food. My companion and I always share. It's so much food! Appetizers of the gyoza, NY Steak plate, with fried rice and mixed vegetables as the sides. Comes out perfect every time and we leave super full. I love this small Shima. They are so good and the services is always great. The wait itself screams how great they are. read more

Called in for a reservation on Saturday afternoon before they opened and we were able to get a table for 10 at the teppan. Our cook was awesome despite having our teenagers that showed no interest lol. Us adults had plenty of laughs and the food was great as always! For a small hole in the wall, it's definitely top notch food and service. Portions are good, waitresses are friendly.. we might be coming here for our birthdays and anniversaries now! read more

My family came here for a birthday and it was wonderful! There were eight of us including a 1 and 4 year old. Food was delicious. And prices were really good. We love going to Shima for teppanyaki. My husband and I love teppanyaki food, and the chefs here make way better food than Benihana (it's also less expensive!). One chef in particular, Jack, is amazing! He is really passionate about teppanyaki and we always ask for him because he's so consistently great. He recognizes us when we come in and always treats us like friends. I've never met a nicer chef. If you want to request Jack, he works Wednesday to Sunday (he wears a blue hat!). I can't speak for the sushi because we only come here for Jack's food, but the miso soup and salad are also good. The service is attentive and I appreciate that everything comes out quickly. Jack is the best teppanyaki chef and we will keep coming back!!! read more

3.5/5 Stars - Nice Experience, But Some Service and Timing Issues…read more We visited Tabi-Ji Teppanyaki for my husband's birthday and had an overall decent experience, though there were a few things that would make us think twice before returning. We chose the dining room seating rather than the teppanyaki tables. The staff did offer us the teppanyaki experience, but since we don't eat red meat or chicken from certain places and weren't sure how the food preparation process worked with mixed ingredients, we opted for a regular table instead. One downside was the seating arrangement. We were seated away from most of the other guests, and it often felt like the staff forgot we were there. Our original host/server was attentive and friendly, but once they were busy with other tasks, it became difficult to get assistance. It was also not busy for a Tuesday evening. We found ourselves waiting for long periods or having to wave someone down, which wasn't ideal, especially for a birthday dinner. As for the food: * Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll (4/5): Fresh, good quality fish, and a generous portion. A solid sushi roll. * Garlic Edamame (4/5): Flavorful and exactly what you'd expect from a good appetizer. * Lobster Duo with Miso Soup, Salad, and Fried Rice (3/5): Unfortunately, the lobster was quite chewy and seemed overcooked. The miso soup and fried rice were both enjoyable and helped make up for it. * Unagi Donburi (4/5): My husband's meal came with white rice, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. It was his first time trying eel, and he really enjoyed the soft texture and flavor. He said he'd definitely order it again. Our biggest disappointment was the timing of the food. The Unagi Donburi arrived significantly later than everything else. By the time it came out, we had already eaten most of the appetizers and other dishes and were pretty full. It's unfortunate because it seemed like a dish that would have been much better enjoyed fresh, but we ended up taking most of it home. Overall, the food ranged from good to very good, and being able to reserve through Resy and use our Amex dining benefit definitely helped offset the cost. However, considering the price point, we expected more attentive service and better pacing of the meal.

The bacon was very uniquely prepared and tasty. The scrambled eggs with cheese were pretty good. The pancakes were good. I didn't try the French toast or the omelet station. The teppanyaki station, with freshly prepared steak, lacked flavor. I requested some ginger sauce I remember having at a popular teppanyaki grill chain, but the person preparing the steak didn't have any. Our waiter brought us some, but it didn't have a strong enough ginger flavor for me. Our waiter was very good. And, he kept the mimosas flowing!

I requested outdoor seating, and the host was kind enough to accommodate us right away. The patio offers a beautiful view overlooking the beach, which made for a great dining experience. For our meal, we ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip as an appetizer, along with the Chowder Bowl, Bikini Paddle Salad, Steakhouse Tacos, and Fish & Chips. The chowder bowl was very good. I especially appreciated that they make the chowder in-house. It was loaded with potatoes and had a rich, creamy flavor. My only complaint is that I would have liked a few more clams. The Steakhouse Tacos were delicious and had a unique flavor thanks to the addition of blue cheese crumbles. The Spinach & Artichoke Dip was also served in a bread bowl, which was a nice touch. The Fish & Chips were probably the weakest dish of the meal. According to my mom, the fish was a bit bland. However, she really enjoyed the Greek-style salad that came with her meal. Overall, this is a great spot to check out if you're spending the day at the beach. Between the ocean views, friendly service, and solid menu options, it's definitely worth a visit.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at their Teppan Grill with a big group, and let me tell you, it was an experience worth sharing. Shima is a Japanese restaurant offering everything from Teppan Grill to a fantastic sushi bar. Though many in our group were regulars, a few of us were first-timers, and every single one of us was blown away by the food and the atmosphere. It reminded me of the famous Benihana, but with a more affordable and, honestly, just as delicious, if not more so! I opted for the Filet Mignon with fried rice, grilled vegetables, miso soup, and a refreshing salad. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavor, while the rice and veggies were equally fresh and flavorful. Each dish was expertly prepared, and you could taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite. What really stood out, though, was the experience itself. The chef cooking right at our table, flipping shrimp and rice bowls, creating fiery volcanoes of onion rings, and entertaining us while making the meal, was a highlight for everyone. It's that perfect blend of delicious food and an interactive, fun dining experience that makes Shima stand out. I've already shared my experience with friends, and I'll definitely be back. Tried it for the first time last night. Our party sat at the Shabu Shabu bar and had Sukiyaki which we prepare ourselves. WE LOVED IT! The vegetables were fresh, sauce not to sweet (it was perfect) and the meat very lean. Service was very good, any waitstaff that happened to be walking by would remove empty dishes. This place is really small but very, very good. We walked in and had zero wait. We were seated quickly and our server was on it asap. I had the steak and chicken and it was really good.
