It's nice to see someone move into this convenient location. There is plenty of parking in the private lot. I love handrolls! They serve their handrolls on the freshest and crispiest Nori! Not like the soggy nori you might get at other places. We got a number of different items. Everything we received, arrived fresh and tasted delightful. Staff is friendly and greeted us upon arrival and welcomed is in. We sat at the sushi bar. There are a couple of table outside as well. They have a clean and relaxing interior. They have a couple of Japanese beers on tap along with a selection in bottles that also include Sake. They have bottled sodas that include Mexican Coke, the good stuff! Stopped by to meet some friends. We tried a few different hand rolls and for appetizers chicken karaage and krispy rice. I tried combo b and ordered and extra medium fatty tuna roll on top. The hand rolls come out where you need to unwrap the rice and filling and place the nori around the wrap yourself. The krispy rice was pretty good. I thought the price was a bit high for a slim amount of filling and having to wrap your own hand roll. It's a neat concept that makes it "fresh" but if you're eating in anyways it shouldn't really matter. There is nothing that particularly stands out as good nor bad. read more

The table seating arrangement was a frustrating experience. While guests at the bar were served ready-to-eat rolls for a proper restaurant experience, table guests were given DIY kits with plastic wrap that we had to peel and roll ourselves. Adding to the frustration, we had to order and pay upfront, which forced us to tip in advance for service we didn't end up receiving. When I asked the staff about the plastic wrap, they claimed it prevents the rolls from getting soggy due to a high volume of orders. However, it clearly seemed like a shortcut to save staff trips from the kitchen to the tables. It feels unfair to demand prepayment and tips upfront when table guests are stuck doing the work ourselves while bar guests get full service. read more

Welp, ordered two rolls and udon. rolls were delivered to the table and had to remove and roll it myself. If I want to roll it then will just get it from Tokyo Central market. Also, I'm aware of shrinkflation but for $7 something and getting 1inch x 5-6 inch roll is not good deal. Undon was also uneventful. It tasted like instant udon soup. read more

This is actually a nice feature and eliminates waiting for your check when you finish. There are a few noodle and soup options, tempura and a variety of beverages but the go-to is the sushi roll. Sho Handroll Sushi in Yorba Linda has quickly become one of my favorite sushi spots! I've been here twice already, and both the food and service have been consistently excellent. Brian is an amazing chef, and you can really taste the quality and freshness in every handroll. I had the C Set, along with the Chu Toro, Kanpachi, and Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice -- everything was so good and incredibly fresh. The handrolls are prepared perfectly and served at just the right time. Melody has also done an excellent job making sure the service and overall experience are top-notch. Great food, great service, and a very welcoming atmosphere. Dined here for the first time without any expectations, but did not expect to be so disappointed. First off, the restaurant had no working a/c, and had 2 small portable units instead. I sat at the bar and could not feel any cool air at all. Eating hand rolls inside a 80F+ restaurant wasn't enjoyable. Next was the menu - you would think the set menu would be either the same price or cheaper than ordering individual rolls right? Well if you get set B, it actually costs more than getting set A then ordering the extra roll that comes in set B. No idea what's going on here, but the menu design is obviously not really well thought out. They seem to switch around what rolls are included in the set menu which might be why this happens. Onto the food: 1) the rice was too mushy. very poor mouth feel and you could not taste the individual grains of rice. also not seasoned well, I could not taste much sushi rice flavor so I had to use a lot of soy sauce. 2) the crispy tuna rice was actually quite good, but you only get 2 for one order so it's a bit pricey. Very crispy, but soft on the inside. 3) the seaweed roll was inconsistent, some rolls were very crispy, and some needed a bit more time on the dryer. 4) the wasabi was prepared or grated too early, it didn't taste good and had a hint of fridge flavor. 5) the fish was actually pretty fresh, but poor execution elsewhere left a lot to be desired. Overall it's a bit too pricey for the quality you get and would need a lot of changes for me to want to return. The chef was attentive enough and pacing was good though. read more

Seriously such a good spot. I came here for the first time just to try it out and liked it so much that I came back the very next day and brought my wife. She loved it just as much as I did. Everything is super fresh and made to order right in front of you. Honestly, watching them make each handroll is part of the experience. The service was great both times too everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome. It's not often I try a new place and immediately want to go back the next day, but this place got me. Prefacing to say we are picky handroll people, and was pleasantly surprised by this place. Fish quality is top notch, so it's on the pricier side (even a bit more than Kazu nori the original handroll bar), but will happily pay to have this in Yorba Linda! Owners are super sweet. One of them comes from the handroll place that used to be in tokyo central. I've heard her talk to a fish salesman while eating there once and know she is very selective with her ingredients. Their udon and grilled salmon was really good as well so my kids had a great meal too! Definitely coming back. It was my first time going to hand roll bar and I totally loved it. We ordered set A and set D, which both had a delicious variety of hand rolls. The fish is fresh and tender, and the hand rolls have a good mouth feel. It's really easy to keep gulping them down especially since they're served right in front of you. The staff were super friendly and had a great attitude even though they were slammed with customers when we came in. I had a wonderful experience. The food was excellent and well proportioned. I enjoyed the in house mayo in the scallop mayo handroll. The Udon soup is flavorful but I did make the mistake in leaving the tempura shrimp too long in the soup that they expanded, however, it absorbed the flavor of the soup which was great. Overall, the experience was excellent. The staff is friendly and do not hover over you. The ambiance is nice and I appreciate the music that they play in the restaurant where it's not overly loud but just playing in the background. read more

All I can say is simply amazing! I was there for the grand opening, and this place exceeded all of my expectations. The hand rolls are awesome! I've been looking for a great local spot where I can become a regular for hand rolls, and I couldn't be happier that they're now here in Yorba Linda. I brought my whole family, and everyone loved it--including the kids. You can immediately taste the quality of the food and especially the freshness and quality of the fish. The menu has an excellent selection, there are plenty of great drink and alcohol choices, and the entire staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional. I have a feeling this is going to become my new go-to spot for both lunch and dinner. I also love having the option to order over the phone and pick it up when we'd rather enjoy it at home. My dad and I decided to try this for lunch the other day. The price was right...we both got the 5 handroll set for $25 and got a couple of other items. The food was amazing....everything we had was excellent! The staff was really friendly and nice. It was the start of the lunch rush but they were operating really efficiently. You definitely want to sit at the bar for the full experience! We told the owner how happy we were that we had a location 5 mins from our house and didn't have to go all the way to Irvine or Tustin! The service was not good at all. We ordered miso soup and the soup was not even warm, almost cold. The lady that served our miso soup had gloves on. When we entered, the gentleman asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar or the table-we were a party of 4 and only 3 seats were available at the bar. Then, he later told us when we sat down that "normally we suggest you sit at the bar". I almost replied to him "well we can't because you don't have room for us at the bar" but I kept quiet. I'm not a fan of the order and pay at the bar but this is how the restaurant is designed. When our food was dropped off at our table, we noticed there was plastic around the sushi rice and fish, no one explained how we should put the food together. The lady that served our food dropped the hand rolls on our table. We ordered set C with various hand rolls, it was OK. Not bad, not great either. Overall, probably not coming back here. Just tried Sho Handroll Bar for dinner last night. What an experience! Their handrolls are unique. They come packaged in a clear wrapper. You take the seaweed out and roll it yourself. Very fun!
