The food is great here! My lunch order was spicy scalion chicken which got me sweating; which was fine with me as I like it hot. The waitress mentioned it was dry but was good for me, some may like a saucier choice. Not too busy at lunch and waitress was friendly and attentive. This place is really losing its consistency. We still get our go tos at least once a week, but a few weeks ago we started looking for alternatives for once. Some would say it's because we eat here all the time we've grown tired of it - but it's just the consistency. Sometimes the Shan City Pork Belly is fire. Sometimes it's overly dry. Sometimes it feels like it should have been fried lower for longer because the congealed fat of the pork is hard yet the pork itself is sawdust, Sometimes it's overly salty. Sometimes the Braised Fish is too salty, sometimes it's underseasoned, sometimes it's "overly oily", but sometimes it's just right. Sometimes the braised pork belly is cooked way too long, the fat completely rendered into a liquid, the pork with the texture of cardboard. Sometimes there no liquid at all, and the pork is too chewy because it wasn't rendered long enough. Sometimes the spring rolls are soaked in oil, sometimes the fried rice tastes three days old. But sometimes it hits that 4 star magic and all is right with the world. It doesn't seem related to the day of the week or the alignment of the stars in the sky, which is the most frustrating part, We always do takeout here, and have recently started using their preferred delivery service via Q Menu, which has more of their menu available than Uber Eats. It's only 5 minutes away from our house and this is our go to if we need something in under 20 minutes. But the inconsistency is killing it man, please fix it. read more

I went to the restaurant to pick up my food this afternoon and considered ordering another dish for tomorrow. I said to the person: Kung Pao chicken. "It's spicy!!!" What are you saying? I responded. He looked at me, white older woman, with disregard so I asked him if he thought a white woman could not handle spicy. When I asked for his manager he told me he was the manager. I wasn't expecting to get great flavors and mostly authentic chinese food in the area, but my friend said he found a joint that he and his family really enjoyed so I had to give it a try. I will say that the flavors overall are big and bold, but you have to choose the right items. Also, some dishes were a mix of Americanized and Chinese, which is common considering the business needs to cater to the palates of their local clientele. Anyway, we ordered: Hunan chicken: This was probably my least favorite. Chicken was decent, but I've never been a fan of chicken breast meat. Flavors were all right too, but couldn't compare to the other dishes. I feel like this is a "safe" dish for people just getting introduced to Szechuan food. Szechuan fish/Bamboo fish: This was fish filets fried with crispy peppers and onions, and it blew our minds. The batter was surprisingly light and not too greasy, and the flavors were hearty, warming, and amazing. I think we could have ordered 2 of these dishes and been happy. Szechuan green beans: This was more like green beans sauteed/blistered in a hot wok with bean sauce (the Szechuan sauce staple). It was good and close to what you'd expect when you order green beans at a Chinese restaurant. By the way, don't knock it til you try it--Chinese children eat their vegetables because of this dish (and all the other amazing veggie dishes we have, but this is definitely a crowd favorite). Hot and spicy beef wrap: I was expecting a more...authentic wrap, but it was literally a flour tortilla wrapped with a ton of shredded lettuce and a tiny bit of beef that was ultra salty and hit you with a bang! I guess I was expecting more of a cilantro-y, Taiwanese kind of beef wrap, but they were smart in the ratio of their salt and fillers, so it worked out. Hot and spicy pot (something like that?): This was actually quite spicy, and my friend got hit with some of those Szechuan peppercorns pretty hard, but it was enjoyable. There's only a tiny bit of glass noodles, which was a bit disappointing because I thought there'd be more, but there's a whole bunch of random stuff in this pot and if you like classic Szechuan flavor, then you will love this! Overall, it's a good mix of American and Chinese. You can tell that they know their Szechuan flavors, and their traditional dishes really shine. When I walked in the restaurant, I definitely thought the food would be overpriced because of how gorgeous the interior looked, but the menu surprised me. The food is in fact quite reasonable. It was a cold afternoon so we ordered a tea pot of hot jasmine tea that cost about $5.95 For appetizer we ordered some crab rangoon (the shell was quite crispy but I was not a huge fan of the filling), we got the chicken coconut soup which was so amazing (the flavor of the cilantro mixed with the shrimp and the coconut was mouthwatering), the last thing we got for the appetizer was the numbing beef rolls- they were served cold as its supposed to be and we loved them. For entrees- we ordered the fried rice, spicy garlic eggplant and hot n numbing chicken (for me- it was alright because everything had a sweet taste to it) but I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you don't like very hot food. The staff here are very welcoming and sweet so that's always a plus. It's a great date night place because of how pretty it looks. So I seen some reviews that said that this was one of the best Chinese food restaurants in the area. I haven't had the Best luck with Chinese food down here, I've had some really good Chinese food, but I am looking for great I guess. They had tables and there were plenty of tables to say that soul sound like his a carryout only kind of spot. It's also not like it's cramped or anything like that so I thought that was good. The way it looks I probably would not mind actually sitting down for a meal. As soon as I walked in they were super nice and friendly. My order was already waiting there when I got there. I don't know how long it been sitting there but I feel like they could have left it in a warm container before they just left it out on the table letting it get cold. But it's not the end of the world. Either way it goes, the guy who greeted me was super nice and very quick about it. I tried this establishment and I was not disappointed. I got some chicken wings, egg drop soup,spring rolls, and the sesame chicken. The rolls were decent,hot and fresh even after the car ride home the soup was decent as well. The chicken wings came in a foil lined bag in order to keep them hot while you are doing carryout. It's similar to what Popeyes did with their chicken sandwich to make sure that you still can get a hot sandwich even after you leave the restaurant. So I actually appreciate it that! Your chicken was super hot and golden brown and had a pretty good flavor to it. A lot of crunch on it as well. The sesame chicken was good as well. The sesame chicken and the fried rice also had a lot of flavor and they did not skimp on the sauce. And a chicken had a superior amount of heat to it. A lot of times you'll get chicken with sauce on it that tastes more sweet even though they denote on the menu that it's supposed to be spicy. Came here for their lunch specials ($8.95 and up) on a weekday 6 weeks ago, and we were the only customers dining in at 11:40 am. Sho Spicy is located in south end of the Fountain Oaks Shopping Center, and could easily be missed due to the many neighboring small businesses. Parking is easy to find in the large, shared free parking lot. As soon as we entered the main dining area, we were immediately welcomed by an employee who seated us quickly. The inside of the restaurant looks great and practically new, with lots of comfortable looking booths and nice wooden chairs and tables. During the time we were in the restaurant, around 4 take out orders were picked up at the cash register. I ordered the Kung Pho chicken lunch special, and R ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch special. We didn't have to wait very long for our meals, probably 10 minutes at the most. I was disappointed in the spice level of the Kung Pho dish. The menu indicated that the spiciness was rated as two chili peppers, but I would personally rate this as one chili pepper. It was confusing to me that there were so many inedible red chili pepper skins in the entree but the spiciness just was lacking. R said that his Mongolian Beef sauce was too sweet. The amount of food provided was good, especially at the reasonable lunch special prices. The service level was good, and our server came by to check on us many times to see if we needed anything and to refill our water glasses. This is my go to now for Chinese food. My favorites are the crispy beef or the classic general tso's chicken. Yesterday was my fist time eating inside; I usually get it to-go. The customer service was stellar. I went for the general chicken last night, but my friend ordered beef with 3 peppers. It was decent. A little chewy for me but good flavor. My soup was spicy and the broth it's self had some flavor... but all together with the noodles and bok Chou just tasted very plain. Tonight I tried the Mongolian Beef. It was horrible. I did not expect the beef to be swimming in onions. I thought it was supposed to be to be more of a stir fry with onions. Yes Buckhead, this means you too can drive 5 minutes and have excellent quality Chinese food with great service.). First, the owner "Sho" is fantastic. He has a great set of recipes that remind me of authentic southern Chinese food. Definitely come and check out the menu. It's varied and they have several large tables with lacy susans in the middle for large group meals where you can share many dishes. Definitely try any of the hot pots. Try the potatoes as well. When I was living just outside Palo Alto, I experienced an amazing Sichuan Restaurant that served me a Cumin Lamb that made my mouth tingly, cool and numbing. Please, this is not a bad thing if you LOVE spicy food. It added to the immense pleasure of eating!!!!! So I stumble on Sho Spicy and sure enough, some of their menu items said "numbing spice" Well, after Yeats of searching for a place that could replicate the Palo Alto experience....SHO SPICY came damn close. The only knock I have is that their wonton in the soup seem to have no meat!! That was disappointing having the feeling of just eating the wrapper. The waitress had the chef make the Cumin lamb with numbing spice and it was simply an amazing dish that I will come back to have!!!
