I stopped here last weekend for a quick late lunch. Opted to sit at the bar. I was promptly given a tasty seaweed salad as a little starter. I think the sushi chef was in training bc another gentleman stood behind him the whole time he prepared orders...but he did a great job. Lol. I ordered the fresh salmon box...which was a lot smaller than i remember. I was in and out within 30 min. Im sure it helped that it was like 4:30..which kinda falls between lunch n dinner. Love everything here! If it's your first time here, you should sit at the bar to get full experience about the food and the atmosphere. The chefs will dress your food at the bar but not when you sit at the table. Do Omakase and let the chef works their magics. Also, I recommend Baked Seafood and specialty rolls if you don't want raw fish. Chef can also sear your fishes upon requests. No reservations needed! Phone doesn't work either lol. Honestly, I've been to a better Hibachi!!! Benihana restaurant in Texas was 1000 times better!!! For one, the service was horrible here! This was my first time with my family. I was taking my husband & family out for his birthday. I waited for a Hibachi table for over an hour. Ok so it was busy . .. but then it took another 15 minutes just to get our and the coke was flat when I got it. When I finally got my drinks l waited around another 10-15 minutes. So the chef came around another 10 minutes. My daughter was starting to get hangry! I also ordered 2 appetizers and two white rice . We ordered the chef choice beef and chicken plate and my husband steak and shrimp plate. Now the chef starts to cook fried rice and noodles. Well my daughter didn't like that . That's why I ordered the white rice and appetizer . It never came until after the rest of the food was cooked. , It wasn't easy to reach a waiter. They never came back and checked on us. So my husband had to call them loudly. My daughter was already aggravated! The waiter/waitress doesn't care about customers in my experience! The food was good except for the appetizer (dumplings) . I find this place grossly over-rated & over-priced. For $100 + $ 20 tip I could have been to a fine dining restaurant and been treated better! read more

It's been years since I've been to shogun. Finally got the chance to try their omakase and it did not disappoint. Fish tasted fresh and each nigiri was huge compared to other places I've been! Each piece was well curated. Felt like a different story in my mouth with each bite. From my understanding, each chef does it differently in some way as well. Can't wait to come back to Nola to eat some more! Also, if you ain't too full from the omakase try the crunchy roll. It sounds basic but you'll be surprised how good it is! read more

Shogun is always my go-to spot for a quick and delicious omakase. I always sit at the bar and go to my 2 usual chefs because of my preference. My recommendations are the kanpachi appetizer, omakase, crunchy roll, and judy roll. My favorites from omakase are the sea eel, king salmon, scallop foie gras, sweet shrimp, and amberjack. This restaurant is always busy, but I usually never have to wait for a seat because of the times I choose, at opening. I can't say the same for hibachi because it is nonstop for that side. There's always a line for it, so I must try one day to see the hype! read more

Shogun is one of the best spots for sushi in the NOLA area. They are authentic and known to have flown in Japanese chefs to train their own chefs. Their food is most worth the price in terms of portion and presentation. Rolls have all been excellent in the three times I've been here. Recently I've had the smoked salmon roll which is delicious. They serve fresh (nice and green) wasabi which not all restaurants do. The hibachi side is pretty standard and good based on how many people I see on that side every time. I've only had to wait once and that was with a party of 6. Service is quick and all the servers are attentive. Oh, and Shogun is one of the only places that serves Japanese curry rice with tonkatsu, one of my favorite things to eat OF ALL TIME. Tl;dr: portions are large and worth the price! read more

This is a must try place when you're in New Orleans. Not even kidding... Expectations were at an all time low as soon as we walked in and saw that it was a hibachi place with a sushi bar. So we sorta hesitated a bit getting the omakase and oh my lord it was beautiful. We got all the good cuts...salmon belly, protro, uni... you name it, we got it. Best part? It didn't cost us an arm and a leg! Most omakase we've had in the past ranged from $60-300. Yeah $300... This place was nowhere near that price and you still get all the best cuts.
