A long time staple for hibachi and sushi, I've finally tried it for the first time not too long ago! There's a few spots for parking in the front and a lot in the back for additional parking. They're also really packed for lunch and dinner, no reservations so plan accordingly. My party and I arrived at close to their opening time and managed to secure a hibachi table for our party of 5 with 1 kid. We had our own table and it was kind of tight to navigate through the restaurant because I had 2 people in our party in wheelchairs. Restaurant filled up very quickly for a Thursday night. So from my understanding you can order different stuff from the menu sitting at a hibachi table but can't order hibachi at a regular table? Kinda weird because I don't always wanna sit at a hibachi table but whatever. Everyone got hibachi and we also go a few different sushi rolls. Our hibachi chef was interactive with us and overall pretty good! Food is kinda pricey but I mean it's hibachi and the portions are huge!! I had enough for 2 meals even after. Food was cooked nicely, not overly salty and you do have to ask for yum yum sauce. Our server was also pretty attentive for how many tables it seemed like she had. We also mentioned a birthday and they surprised my aunt which was nice. Also a side note that their crunchy roll is so good!! The crunchy part is actually crunchy unlike other sushi places. It's simple but I really like it and would order it again as well. Overall, not a bad experience and I would come back for lunch since prices tend to be a little cheaper! I love this restaurant. I used to live here but now I only get back to visit once a year. No matter how many other amazing restaurants are here in Meterie I always make time for Shoguns. I find the Ramen is the most authentic I have had outside of Japan. I love their sushi It is always fresh. I love the hibachi as well . I had the filet hibachi this trip. It was delicious and cooked to perfection. My husband had the shrimp but after tasting my filet he wished he had order that instead. Their sushi is super, always top notch but we went to the hibachi table last night. The cook burned the shrimp. He left it on one side so long, I kept thinking "you got to flip that" but he was just staring all over the dining room like he had other business to attend to. It ruined the flavor. He also was very inconsistent with the rice. He only put one egg in some of the rice and gave is bowls out of that, then he mixed the rest of the rice with all the eggs and served everyone else with that batch. It was like he realized that he had not mixed in all the eggs and then corrected it before serving the rest of the people, but our rice was not good, and that was the one dish my wife looked forward to. read more

My parents used to dine here as young adults and the quality seems to have remained consistent throughout the years. I've been frequenting this restaurant since I was a teenager. It's authentic Japanese sushi and everything tastes really fresh and delicious. They've got a lot of different off menu items that are innovative - the carpaccio with yuzu sauce and red peppercorns is a must try! I have yet to try their omakase yet because it's not always offered, but I love that this is an option in addition to their hibachi and regular dine in. Even if you're not a fan of sushi, their hibachi is the best I've tried in the city. The portions are large and filling and it's reasonably priced. I dined here last night with a group of friends and everyone enjoyed it. The favorites were the Judy Special and the baked scallop sushi. The unagi sushi is so good too! It gets really packed, so be sure to make a reservation ahead of time to avoid the wait. read more

I have mixed feelings about the food at Shogun. I love the hibachi table. While expensive, the food Is good and the experience is really fun. The dishes from the kitchen- such as chicken terrayaki, are good! But the rolls I have had are pretty bleh. I recommend the steak and chicken hibachi meal, the beef or chicken terrayaki, and the lunch bento box. read more

Shogun has some of the best sushi I've ever had! Their quality is always phenomenal and their service is exceptional as well. Crunchy rolls are basic but Shogun has THE best crunchy roll in the city. If you don't believe me, try it! Their bean sprout salad is always a hit and their squid salad is delicious. They have many special rolls I have liked over the years, but I do not get them often because they are pretty pricy for how much you get. However, I give them a pass on this because I know it's because it's a nicer sushi restaurant with amazing quality. Their fresh salmon roll is definitely one of my favorites as is the Metairie roll! If you'd like to go when it's cheaper, I recommend going for lunch for their lunch specials! what a huge disappointment! our favorite hibachi place in NOLA. for over 30 years. just back in town and anxious to return. and I was wondering how I was able to get in on a Saturday at peak dinner and sadly I found out why. why change something that made it fabulous.? the sad soup, salad dressing with no ginger, ginger sauce was inedible for seafood, even their famous fried rice was bland and lifeless. people were actually adding salt and soy sauce something I have never seen. to say below par would be putting it mildly. and dear lord those sad noodles add misery on top of a mediocre meal. We went to Shogun for lunch and it was packed in the restaurant, for good reason too! We had an amazing lunch! We ordered the chicken teishoku (lunch set) and tempura teishoku. They were cooked perfectly and the portions were generous. It really felt like a typical Japanese home-cooked meal. As Japanese people living in New Orleans, we really appreciated the authenticity of the food. This place is truly Japanese without any 'fusion' happening. I was visiting New Orleans with my boyfriend, who used to frequent Shogun all the time when he was younger, so he insisted we try it out to see how much has changed. We sat at the sushi bar and I honestly do not think I have ever felt so spoiled before at a restaurant. The sushi chef was amazing. We came around lunchtime and I ordered a chirashi. I felt like it was a good choice so that I could try an assortment of sashimi. When I received my bowl, I looked at the chef and at my boyfriend. Are we sharing? The chef then proceeded to hand my boyfriend his own bowl. The chef gave my boyfriend extra rice, since he could tell that he was a "growing" boy haha. Well, I guess I was on my own to finish my food then. The fish tasted so fresh. I was so full halfway into eating, but I just could not bring myself to waste such amazing, high quality food. On top of that, the chef would, every once in a while, drop another piece of fish into my bowl. I love sushi. I eat it as often as I can. But the chef was giving me pieces of fish I had never tried before! They were all amazing. Aside from the great service at the sushi bar, our server was also very attentive and really good about checking on us and refilling our drinks. This was very impressive, in my opinion, because the restaurant was extremely busy. We got there right when they opened, and there was already a line out the door. It is a casual dining setting with lots of Old Metairie customers. No techno/house or fancy $100 dishes, just good Japanese food. The cute lil' man behind the cash register has been there for 38 years! So cute, my dad walks in 11 YEARS later and he just picks up conversation like it was yesterday. The staff are all very friendly and familial. The fish quality is excellent and portions are good.
