I worked down the street from Shoop's for years and got lunch there at least once a week. My favorites are The Body Wrap and The Clevelander. Always delicious. They also sell the most amazing tubes of German mustard (wish I could remember the brand) in their mini-market. If you go to Shoop's, you can't help but fall in love with the owners. They are so sweet and friendly. So sad I am no longer nearby. read more

Shoop's is a great place. I come here almost everyday that I go to the beach. This spot is much more local then other places in the area and the wait is usually a lot shorter too. Amazing European Deli. I had walked in and found myself reminded of being in Germany. I saw alot of different products that I enjoyed. As I sat down for breakfast I found there menu had alot of items I wanted to try. I settled for a 2 egg and 2 pancake combo. The eggs were cook just as I ordered and the Bacon pancakes were perfect. Slight crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside with bacon cuts. A must if when you go. Needless to say I walked out with some extra goodies from the market and a fat belly... perfect! read more

I was looking for a new sandwich shop after moving to the LA-area and I think I have found it! This place is quick and thorough! They have a bunch of pre-designed sandwiches you can choose from, or you can create your own. As a surprise to me, they also have an amazing European shop where you can find a lot of imported foods and soaps, as well. BEWARE! The parking isn't the best here. They have a huge parking lot behind the restaurant, but they have parking meters. Also, there are only about 4 tables inside, so don't expect to eat your sandwich in the shop. read more

I have to come back and revise my review. The wraps are great, the salads are good...but seriously...there should be a line out the door for The Clevelander. I love this sandwich. Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese, Sour Kraut, Russian Dressing and Horseradish. I add some extra "Nordic" Mustard that they sell there...yumm...people need to try this sandwhich. Shoops seems to be a fusion of German deli and California sandwich shop. I came in a couple years ago and asked they had liverwurst, I was told they did and asked what I was trying to do. I told them that I was in need of whatever it is that makes up a German Breakfast. ( I know that sounds like a horrible sexual perversion but its not ) I was informed by my now ex-girlfriend that this was a something she grew up with and she wanted to kick this down for her parents who were in town for Christmas. Well, they asked me for how many people and I told them and they hooked it up...my ex's parents said it was exactly like they had in Germany. In case you don't know ands are curious...a German Breakfast is basically cold cured meats, cheese and bread. The prices are standard Main Street Santa Monica. What makes this place better than average is: 1- Good customer service 2- Food is fresh and balanced 3- They have a cool selection of chocolate and a wall of gummy candies. 4- They have a small grocery store of all kinds of interesting imports. 5- They have a small deli that offers lots of authenic goodness. I have one complaint - it needs to be bigger. It does amazingly well what it sets out to do - give inexpensive but wholesome food choices to the down and dirty diner. I've had lunch here when I was in between appointments. I've grabbed a sandwich on my way to another appointment. I've had Sunday breakfast just before trolling the Main Street Farmer's Market. Everytime I got tasty food, made to order with the right amount of friendly. This ain't fine dining and it ain't trendy - but every so often, don't you just want a grilled cheese sandwich that tastes like a grilled cheese sandwich. read more

I was sooooo excited to find out that 1/2 their menu was smoked salmon. Ordered the ashley wrap and veggie omelet with smoked salmon to go. So sad when I opened up my food and realized that the fish is actually cooked smoked NOT brined :( BUT looks like they do have truly smoked "lox style" salmon on the menu - called gravlax. Will order next time. Also they have a wall of different Haribo candy. Amazing! Not easy to park here and not much of a scene so more of a to go place. read more

I ordered the veggie muenster sandwich. Although the sandwich was messy to eat, The ingredients were fresh and the flavor delicious, including the bread. I love that they have a full breakfast menu, including veggie sausage! A good place to grab a quick, reasonably priced lunch on Main Street. As a vegetarian I generally don't lunch at deli's - you never know if they will have any meatless menu items which are actually crafted instead of say, a turkey sandwich without the turkey. But to me there is something nostalgic about dining with 10 large buckets of mustard next to your head. read more

Service is impeccable, owners are usually always present greeting customers while working behind the counter, the food is made with love, delicious, and they offer lots of vegan options. I was so happy when I read on the menu that they served breakfast all day (at least on weekends) because it's my favorite! They have a wide variety of great options so it was tough to pick. I ended up taking the Mark's wrap and it was delicious! One of my friends ordered the Salmon salad and it looked stupidly good as well. The food came very fast, and we appreciated that because we only had 30 min left on the parking meter. They also sell European cheeses, chocolate and candy. This is a nice little shop on Main Street offering a variety of deli items as well as European dry goods. There are a few tables inside though I usually take my food to go. I've had their soup before, a tasty corn chowder and I like their salads. I had a panini once and it was a bit heavy. Employees are friendly and quirky. In a word..this place..is incredible. The best blueberry pancakes I've ever had..make sure to order some maple syrup to drizzle lightly but plan with butter..yum! One of the best European Markets on the Westside ! Matt and Lana along with their staff offer excellent customer service and make you feel at home every time you walk in. They remember you by name and always know what you want. The dishes are overflowing with food and if you are craving something special they will order it for you. Shoops has everything from breakfasts, lunches and dinners to baked goods, groceries, soaps, lotions, shampoos etc. The shop is stocked for the holidays throughout the year. Be sure to give yourself enough time to browse through the menu since there are so many dishes to choose from. Parking is easy - in the front parking lot or in the rear city parking lot. This place is amazing. There is nothing nicer than a local owned business. With owners that actually run the place. I only come here to get Dutch food . They have amazing dutch cheese. Currently they have a mustard seed cheese to die for. Also one of the view places that has calf liverwurst. I also get candy , condiments, and herring. Hands down, this is my FAVORITE breakfast spot everrr! Traveled here from Houston, Texas and literally ate here for breakfast twice within the week because it was so delicious! You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorite has got to be the banana and blueberry pancakes! After eating these, I really don't want any other pancakes from anywhere else! We go to Shoop's at least once a month - the sandwiches are incredible - huge portions. With the veg turkey, this place is a vegetarian's dream. The Riley is the best sandwich I've ever had. Disappointed. The Clevelander is their "specialty." It was literally 2 THICK BUTT END pieces of a loaf of bread bookending some corned beef. The most saddest reuben sammich ever. The sammich coulda had potential BUT the THICK, dry bread totally overwhelmed the corn beef and sauerkraut. The latter 2 ingredients were almost non-existent. I was really trying to get past the bread ordeal but couldn't because when I chewed, all u taste was super chewy butt end pieces of a loaf of bread. read more

I used to come here for breakfast every Saturday morning because its just to damn good! Always got the breakfast sandwich, but literally all of their dishes are delicious! Its on main st, so you can have breakfast & do some light shopping after/before!! The restaurant is pretty small, so if you go on the weekend, expect to wait 15 mins to be seated! We dropped in on a Saturday morning to get a sense of Shoop's. I've driven by Shoop's for years before finally stopping here - my loss. We ended up getting a lot of sausages and the smoked salmon. Both were excellent, particularly the smoked salmon. The owner mentioned that the salmon is smoked by him - about 400 pounds a week. He is also very generous in offering samples. When he offered my wife and me a sample of the smoked salmon, he broke off a huge piece from a filet - probably about a quarter pound worth! Nice smokiness and pronounced flavor from the rub, while still moist and supple. Shoop's also has a well stocked and curated grocery section with goods mostly imported from Europe. This section is relatively compact but deceptively deep in selection. We will be back to try out their cafe menu. read more

Just dined here for the first time today and it's only 2 blocks from my place. Very good sandwiches, & quick! Called ahead and they were ready promptly 10 minutes later. And they package them well to take as a picnic out on the beach, which is what we did. I had the BLT and added turkey and avocado, and bf had bbq chix sand. YUM! This will likely become one of our new regular spots. Right across the street from Urth Cafe, and half the price, double the menu and much better tasting food! (And I'm a fan of Urth....but....it breaks the bank a bit for what it is.) Definitely stop in here for a quick bite!
