I've been going to Shorty's for years and normally I would give them 5 stars but this last visit was a little rough. The food was amazing as always and I'm pleased to see they have started adding some adventurous options to the specials. They used to change their menu frequently so I'm hoping this is a good sign that the menu will continue to evolve. There were two of us and we waited a reasonable 15 minutes to get a table on a busy Sunday morning. Where it went wrong was after we were seated. It took another hour and a half to get our food. The issue was not with our waitress, she was very attentive- I think they had too many people for what the kitchen was able to handle. It's unusual for them since there's not many breakfast options in Pottstown, and they're used to busy weekends. I'm hoping this was a fluke because I really love eating here and it's an institution in this area. I will try again and see what happens! read more

I'm about a week late on this review so excuse me. Anyway my friend and myself decided to go here to catch up. Neither one of us had been here before and we had both been meaning to try it. Once we got in it took us a few moment to get seated. Noting crazy. The atmosphere is nice. It's a warm and cozy atmosphere. Different decor and fresh Daisy's around. Our waitress came over and gave us the specials and asked us if we needed help with the menu and got our drink orders. She was very nice but you could tell she was very busy. My friend decided to order French toast and a scrambler. I ordered a special. I'm sorry I forgot the exact name of it but it was potatoes, eggs and their famous crab dip grill cheese all in one dish. Now after we ordered I will say it took soooo long for us to get our food. I mean we even noticed a couple that had obviously been there before keep getting up asking about where their food was. Not a good sign. Now when we did get our food to me it was worth the wait. Though the wait was disappointing. But Let me tell you my dish was very hearty and filling. It tasted really good. A lot of carbs but hey it was very flavorful. I will say I wish I could have tasted the crab more. My friend said her dish was good but she didn't like the texture of the bacon in the dish was. This place has potential . However , It has a limited menu and the waiting room is about 25% of the restaurant . The service is pathetically slow even with three cooks. from the moment we came in and left was 95 minutes. So if you have a lot of time this is a place for you. It's breakfast it's not complicated. The potato bomb still came out cold in the middle makes me think they are pre made them heated . Everywhere we go politics has invaded. Cant watch a sports event, show, movie, awards, without politics being shoved at us. This was great! It's a wonderful find in a pretty depressed area. Met a friend for breakfast! The restaurant is pretty large. The decor is funky fun! The service was super nice. The food was very interesting for breakfast. And it was excellent and served hot. My friend had the Mexican style eggs in a hole. Topped with salsa and sour cream. I had the Sunny special. Kielbasa and eggs with zucchini bread. The home fries would have been great if crispy and my side of bacon was over cooked. Otherwise It was excellent. I would say it's worth the drive. The place is adorable - the sunflower decor somehow works without being too tacky or sweet. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. I had eggs with turkey bacon, zucchini bread and fried potatoes. Of these four things, three of them were disappointing, The eggs were fine. Somehow they managed to burn parts of the turkey bacon while leaving other parts underdone. My potatoes (the thing I was really looking forward to since I often make bacon and eggs at home but rarely feel like the trouble of making homemade breakfast potatoes) were hard, some were nearly raw. I told the waitress and she quickly whisked me out a new cup of them that were inexplicably doused in oil - she ruefully explained that all the potatoes were from the same batch and these would probably be underdone as well. I suggested she ask the cook to throw them on the griddle for a couple of minutes and fry them a bit, they were small chunks and would cook quickly? She said this wasn't an option because that is not how you cook potatoes. Umm...ok. It's how I cook breakfast potatoes and they are delicious. Also I had wanted biscuits and they were out so on her strong recommendation I tried the zucchini bread - I expected a dark spicy kind of bread but this was pretty generic and sweet, not in a good way. Hubby had some kind of breakfast enchilada that was on special and he really enjoyed it. He also tried a pancake and that was ok, a bit too dense and heavy but not terrible. They did not have real maple syrup. Our server was very attentive, she kept the coffee coming. Other dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen looked really fresh and good. Super dry that I needed extra butter and used half the maple syrup bottle. The crab dip grilled cheese: served with tortilla chips and it tasted more like a cream cheese spinach dip with a slight hint of crab. At least it was grilled well. Zucchini bread: this place is known for their zucchini bread. Unfortunately mine was dry and tasted no different than normal bread. I tried to add butter for moisture... Great place for a meet up! My best friend and I met here for a late breakfast here. The atmosphere is very bright and inviting. The outdoor seating is great, as well as all the room inside too. I ordered the specialty breakfast burrito with zucchini, equinox cheese, and eggs. It was a little bland, I admit, but well prepared with fresh veggies, cheese, and eggs. This is my favourite place to go and get breakfast during the weekends. If I am giving it only 4 stars is only because i don't like to wait... ha ha ha. The plates are very good, fresh and well prepared. My favourite are the "Whole Wheat Pancakes" and my wife usually orders the "omelet special". I add a side order of home fries and I finish with a good smile. The service is ok, nothing formal... there is a bunch of high school girls. Sometimes they don't pay too much attention but in general i don't have complains. The food takes long to come because everything is prepare fresh and as I mentioned above... there is a lot of people for brunch. Looked up this cafe online for breakfast. Menu was tempting and reviews were good too. So me and my husband stopped at this cafe in the morning for breakfast couple of days ago. I really miss this place! I moved to California in 2016, but was able to visit prior to the pandemic. When I lived in Pottstown, I used to come on the weekends to have coffee and their breakfast enchiladas. I so miss the enchiladas!!! Looking at their menu now, it seems as if they don't offer the enchiladas anymore which is disappointing since it was a hearty and healthy option.
