I was looking for the perfect place to have a karaoke session for a group of 20+ people, and Yelp led me to JJ Music Studio! Let me just say... I'm glad that there's Yelp! My experience here was awesome! Not only is the karaoke session cheap ($55/hour for a group of 20+), but the music selection is great! A good mix of new popular songs as well as old classics for songs in English. I love the utilities they provide! Disco ball + wigs + two loud microphones = a good time! Drinks are also a reasonable price (water bottles for only $1, thank God), and the staff was pretty chill. The only thing I was iffy about was the smell (smelled like cigarettes the whole time) and the paying (cash only). Nevertheless, I'm definitely coming back. read more

Song lists should be by category selected from the screen not crinkly catalogs. The young man at the front desk was polite but the old guy was super unfriendly. This was a great spot for karaoke. 5 of us for $33 and they let us go for $24 instead since we all fit in a small room. We loves the music selection and the lights that the room had. The atmosphere was super fun considering this place was small. We all got to sing old and new American songs and we're surprised at the huge collection of Korean music. We came here as a backup since Plush had messed up our RSVP. It's located in the corner of a strip mall with plenty of parking spaces. The place is setup like your standard KTV place. Yes this place is Korean owned/runned so the machines are in Korean! They feature about 10 regular rooms and 3 VIP rooms in the back. We got one for VIP rooms which was $60/hour. The room feature 2 ktv machines; one newer touch screen with newer music (yes it's in english), and another older machine with only korean controls but yes it does have all types of oldie english, chinese, viet, korean, jpop songs on it. They have 4 sets of books to look thru but it's only organized by song title instead of artist so you better know your song names! The VIP rooms also featured full strobe lights on the ceiling and rainbow LED lights on the back walls with 2 large big screens one on each wall. The perks also included bongo drums, tambourines and a mic stand for those solo acts haha. The pros: -Good room temps -Clean rooms -Nice selection of songs in a variety of language: English, Korean, Viet, Chinese (mando and Canto), small Japanese selection -Mic caps to keep your spit to yourself The cons: -ABSOLUTELY no food or alcohol is sold at this place. You can go to the bar next door to take your preshots like we did instead. No outside food in either. They only sell bottle water, aloe juice and soda -The 2nd machines controls are 100% in korean so unless you can read it good luck figuring out how to use it. Yes we had to keep asking for help -The machine has no vocal assists so you will be singing solo without the actual songs vocal assists for the more shy singers -The price was abit high Overall, this place was just OK if you just want to come to sing. When Plush is too crowded, Shout is the way to go. There is a decent amount of song selection and the prices are decent. While there aren't too many new songs, they still have some, and it isn't too bad. The songs they have are still relatively new and, hell, you can always sing oldies for good ol' sake. The interior is really nice and clean. They have tambourines if you really wanna get funky. They provide you with two mics. I feel like coming with a group of four is really great, which is what I did when I recently came with friends. If they had even more song selection, I'd definitely give this place five stars. I hold Shout Karaoke near and dear to my heart, and for good reason: I pretty much spent (and am continuing to spend) the good majority of my teenage years here. TOO many memories made at this karaoke place on weekend nights, with middle school and high school friends with whom I go way back. But let's get to the review... I usually come here at night, with about 3-5 people. I don't think I've ever come with more than 5 people, so I tend to get the small rooms, which are $25 an hour. If you're feeling short on cash, definitely come during Happy Hour(s), which starts at 4PM and ends at 7PM. At just $7 per person, this happy hour deal is a serious bargain! Gotta love the cute little cloth wrappers they give you to sheath the mic, for all you germaphobes who loathe the thought of ingesting your friends' spittle every time the mic gets passed around. As for song selection, Korean music is definitely the winner here, with most current kpop and Korean ballads updated! For folks looking for trendy American mainstream/billboard music, you probably will be disappointed. But definitely a wide variety of English songs are available for you non-Asians out there who love to karaoke- if you don't mind jamming out to some slightly dated songs. I don't go karaoke-ing often, but this spot has a pretty good feel! It is tucked in the back of the same plaza as Cream Pan, so there's plenty of parking if you come past 9ish. What's good about Shout is that it is really clean inside (from what I could tell) and they have a super extensive listing of songs in English, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Philippinese....yes, it says PHILIPPINESE!!! Another cool addition is that they have a whole bunch of wigs you can use during your American Idol practice! I can't carry a tune one bit, but neither can a bunch of "singers" on the radio today. Giving me a wig to use makes me just as awesome a performer as some of them!!! I took a star off my rating for Shout because they DO NOT ALLOW ALCOHOL. I booked a large birthday party here for 12 kids on a Saturday. The guy up front was really nice and helpful. He stopped cleaning and went to show us the room that we made the reservation for. It was clean and roomy enough for 12. He told us we could pay after the party was over. We were allowed to bring in water and pizzas for the kids. I believe J J Music Studio is the only Korean Norehbang (Kareoke) place in the Irvine/Tustin area. Otherwise, you're probably going to have to drive to Garden Grove. I have been here once with my family and cousins about a year ago and I remember that they had a really great surround system. Their system made me sound like a superstar. haha. Voice enhancements? The selection of songs they had was pretty decent and up to date. I believe the medium room is about $35/hr. Being the asian I am, I decided to go karaoke for my birthday, and I'm SO glad that I picked J J Music Studio! Granted, I've never been to any other karaoke place, but I had a really awesome time here nonetheless. I ended up getting their biggest room, and I think it was either 45 or 55 dollars an hour, but that's relatively inexpensive when you divide the costs among 15+ people. The smaller rooms are cheaper as well, so it works out, no matter the number of people who go to karaoke. The music selection was pretty great, even though we only chose out of their English selection. I'm assuming that if you wanna go for Japanese and Korean songs, it would prove to be an even better experience, since they have more of that stuff. The background videos are super lame, which just escalates how entertaining the whole experience is haha. I personally would rather have their really lame, funny, fobby background videos over the real ones anyday hahah. I will come back here again, because I have a "5 dollars off" coupon which expires soon. \But even without the coupon, I would still come back. So yes, karaoke your hearts out here! P.S. Don't bring alcohol unless you're really sneaky with it...but on the plus side, they'll return it to you at the end of the night anyways. read more

This place has the most updated song list out of all the karaoke places I've been to. Was pleasantly surprise to see Rihanna's "Work" on the list only a few weeks after it was released on the radio. There is no better way to sober up after a night of binge drinking at Honda-Ya or Baden Baden than to go sing your heart out at a KTV. JJ Music studios is clean, friendly, and within walking distance to both of these watering holes. Their song selection is limited (mostly English, Korean, and Japanese) though, so I can't wail away with up to date Chinese songs. They are fairly up to date with English though, so its always fun to cheese out. My only issue is that they don't serve alcohol. This is always a downer when you want to keep on being a rock star, but your buzz is going away. At this point, we usually take a break and go next door to Baden Baden for more soju. The place is actually pretty cool. It's a pretty small space, but it has a lot of cool features like touch screen playlists and good sound systems. I thought it was a little difficult to find exactly what I wanted but I was able to make do. What I didn't like- According to their flyer they have "Happy Hour" from 4-7 pm Monday-Friday. So I did some quick math. Assuming you have to finish your mandatory hour around 7 I should get there by 6 to take advantage of the awesome price. I got in there at 6:02. It was my first time there, by the time the attendant finished walking me through the system it was 6:09. They charged me full price. When I asked about the Happy Hour price they told me that since I was not there BY 6 I got charged full price. Sometimes you have to pick your battles. It was 2 minutes past 6 when I walked through the door. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Might not end up coming back. read more

But they had lots of popular western songs. You can control the lights in the room and that was awesome. They also have props you can use in the room. Holidays + get togethers + drinks = karaoke! Being inspired by the holiday festivities have got my friends and I scoping out karaoke joints and shouting to our heart's desire! So Saturday night we walk in where we're lead to a booth where there's ample room to sit and sing. There are disco lights and strobe lights going on at all times and freakin tambourines! (Fantastic if you want to role play and have your friends be your back up...err yeah right! I'm still perfecting my "Baby Got Back" lingo) You know the place is decent when they have to remind you twice that they're closing. More like remind you the first time then beg you to leave the second time hehe. For local fun with fun friends I'd recommend it. The old dude/owner seemed to be nice and promised us we would only be charged the amount we called about on the phone which was thirty dollars for a small room. But then as soon as we left, BAM he charged us forty five saying we weren't there for happy hour when we arrived well within the time window. I do think this is still a decent karaoke place to check out for a Friday night, but seriously, watch out for the scammer and make sure he writes down the price for you next time rather than change it last minute.
