I was able to get a reservation through the app instead of the computer (app is so much faster and quicker)! There were plenty of parking in the back despite the small spaces. They don't have a big sign so it is easy to miss the place. When we walked in, they accommodated with jackets and coats. We waited a few minutes until they were ready for their second round of dinner seating. They call you by each party. We were lucky enough to get the middle seating and it was a wonderful experience viewing both chefs create your sushi in front of you. Although there is a wait between each dish, it was pretty entertaining. I have nut allergies and they were super nice to make sure nothing had pesto. They even took out the red beans for the dessert just to be precautionary. We left very full and it was definitely a memorable date. I started following Jimmy Park career since Pōk Raw Bar. The first time my friend took me to his Omakase course I became intrigued with his ways. His meticulous ways infuse passion into each piece of creation he served. He educate me with each piece of sushi he placed in front of me. It not only shape my taste bud but also my knowledge for what it is I'm eating. It's fun watching him work and make them in front of you. Never a dull experience with Jimmy. And in Jimmy, I trust!! Everything served was delicious. Even though I usually don't enjoy oysters, the oysters they served was delicious and fresh. Each course was well prepared, and the toppings very we'll complimented each main dish. My personal favorite was the uni; it tasted like a bite of the ocean. A 19-course omakase with some western influence ($195) located in the heart of Lower Greenville. The building entrance is interesting with a little window on the side that opens from the inside. The place is dimly lit with Lofi music playing in the background. The setting is intimate yet social--The sushi chef actively explains the courses as you sit practically elbow-to-elbow with the people next to you. I made a mistake of booking Kinzo a week before Shoyo. Sadly, Shoyo paled in comparison: The experience was pricier and underwhelming in terms of taste, quality, freshness, and presentation. While Kinzo flies in their fishes every 2 days, Shoyo flies theirs in 2 times a week; the taste is noticeably less sweet and more fishy. I reserved a spot for Saturday at 5:45pm. It was really disappointing to learn that the head sushi chef takes Saturdays off; that is like the equivalent of the star of the show not performing on a prime night. Consequently, our sushi chef took way longer because he had to fill in for the missing 3rd chef and serve 2 sections instead of 1 (aka. 7 people instead of 4). We were celebrating a birthday, so it was really kind of the restaurant to gift each guest a glass of sparkling wine. My favorite piece was their "life-changing" melt-in-your-mouth Toro with Truffle caviar. The house-made sesame ice cream was really unique and delicious--so much so that I wish they served a larger portion. On the flip side, I didn't like the western influences on some of the courses; one course tasted exactly like a spider roll, while another course's Italian pesto sauce was overpowering. Overall, a subpar experience for the price point. I would not revisit. read more

Immaculate service and presentation. Before you even get to the food, the staff preps you for the meal experience so that you aren't lost on what to do. Then they provide you with a sense of comfort and ease to create an atmosphere that makes you believe you are in a pocket reality dedicated to the full Shoyo experience. And then quickly after that comes the experience that will blow you away. The chefs and the rest of the staff provides a show of their skill and creativity of food art. Food is made in front of you at steady pace so you don't go hungry and stay entertained. not sure if there are other omakase spots in dallas but i am comfortable deeming shoyo the best. if you're into legit sushi (im not talkin california rolls, no shade to em though) definitely snag a reservation through resy.com. make sure you have some coins and some time. you pay for what you get and the quality / 2+ hour experience is well worth it. im already excited to go back and i just went last night. it was seriously like a sensory overload sushi party inside this beautiful restaurant and im surprised my brain didnt explode. heads up: for the time being, shoyo is BYO and a corking fee of $25 is charged. read more

I walked by this place so many times hoping to get a reservation, and I finally did! Definitely worth waiting for! I love that it is intimate and the wait staff are very attentive to your needs. My wife and I went to Shoyo to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. It was one of the best dining experiences that we have ever had together. The host greeted us and walked us to our table where he wished my mother-in-law happy birthday in her native language. There were four others at the restaurant that were celebrating birthdays which made for a fun and festive evening. The cocktails were fantastic. I started with the Shoyo Old Fashioned made with one of my favorite Japanese whiskeys. I also had the Momo Royale which our server Kim recommended. It was excellent. My wife and mother-in-law had their Sauvignon Blanc which they enjoyed. Kim along with the other servers were fantastic. They were attentive and kind. Chef Kenny took care of us that evening. He was funny, engaging, informative and exceptionally skilled. Chef Kenny, knowing my mother-in-law couldn't have too much rice, placed less rice in her sushi which she really appreciated. There were about 20 courses and none missed the mark for me. The standouts were the shinsu sake, kinme dai, tachiuo, unagi risotto, beef aburi, uni, and toro handroll. In addition the shrimp soup and green tea dessert were fantastic. We also ordered their platinum osetra caviar that evening and we agreed that it was the best caviar we ever had. How is it that at 9:00 AM on Oct. 1 all the reservations except for one was taken? I was completing my credit card purchase for a reservation at 9:00 AM and it went through and then I was sent a message that the reservation was ALREADY TAKEN. How is that possible!! To be fair, this is not traditional edomae sushi. It is unorthodox but works well. Some pieces are very traditional but others do push the envelope. I won't ruin the surprise for you, but Jim is challenging what we think of A proper edomae style omakase. I would probably call this dinner more of a kaiseki type with some assorted hot plates coming out of the kitchen. There were some nice surprises like monkfish liver pâté. I do wish the miso dish with the fish chunks was done as a chwanmushi but overall this was definitely an experience. If you have been to traditional omakase sushi counters shoyo is worth a try to see how chefs are taking a tried and true concept and making it their own. read more

Sushi was great but not Michelin level -- reviews certainly were a bit hype (I've dined in Chicago and NYC at several excellent places). To me, a lot of the signature dishes included some form of fish eggs so if you're not a fan of caviar esque textures and tastes, you will probably want to reserve your palette for something else. The chefs absolutely work hard but there was something that was missing I can't put my finger on from the experience that doesn't justify the price tag (I paid north of $500 all in). It's a neat, intimate experience with the chefs, but I prefer the Uchi experience more. read more
