Halloween night around 1:15am - 1:35am I took two young ladies to Shugs in front of SMU. It was very packed as everyone had been out partying on Halloween night. The young ladies went in to ask for their order which they ordered online at 12 midnight. I'm not sure who the worker was or her name, but she proceeded to get on the intercom and ask everyone to ,"look to the right and look to the left, as you can see we are f-ing busy. There are probably 20-30 orders ahead of yours so if you could f-ing be patient we would appreciate it." She continued to get on the intercom multiple times and say many unprofessional and disrespectful things for the remainder of the time we were there. This is probably a great establishment, but no one deserved the type of treatment the employee/worker displayed last night. I hope some type of discipline is given. The BEST bagels in Dallas! The only thing I love about New York is their bagels so for me to have an AUTHENTIC New York bagel in Dallas is AMAZING! I moved an hour away from this location so whenever I am close I make it a point to grab a dozen and freeze them. It's hard to find such friendly service in such a loud, busy place in an uppity area. But the staff here are always so nice! I kinda held up the line asking bagel related questions and the lady behind the counter was happy to answer them. Stopped by Shug's Bagels over the weekend as I've been in search for some New York style bagels. When I arrived, there was plenty of parking and the shop is located right near the entrance of SMU's campus. When I walked up to the door, the line was well out of the door, which usually is a very good sign that somewhere is good. To order, you'll stand in line and order at the counter, the staff will give you a number and call out your number when your order is ready. I ordered the Shug (scrambled eggs, bacon, a hash brown, & American cheese) on a garlic bagel. Wow, this bagel is close to the New York style bagels and I couldn't stop eating it. It was so good and the garlic flavor of the bagel balanced everything so well. I'll likely try this sandwich again next time but with the spicy flavors added. read more

I got an everything bagel with lox minus capers. This was our 1st meal as soon as we arrived Dallas and our friends took us here. This taste pretty much the same as the various bagel sandwiches when we visited NYC. I'm so sad we don't have anything like this in SGV. My bagel and lox was amazing, it has a crunchy skin yet soft side. I'm drooling now as I write this review even a couple months later. Hubby got a Rueben pastrami and also a pizza bagel. All were gone within a blink of an eye. The place was packed with customers so it maybe hard to look for a table to dine during busy hours. I do love a good bagel! This place is very easy to find, lots of parking, but on SMU Football Game Days and Tennis Match days, parking becomes scarce. This establishment is not just an early morning bagel as they do have many lunchtime sandwich options as well! My first time in and service was rapid! I ordered my favorite, bacon and cream cheese on a toasted cinnamon and raisin bagel. I was in and out within 5 minutes! The bagel was hot and they did not skimp on the schmear! Unlike some chains, the bacon was decent thickness. It was cut in half which does make it easier to eat and well wrapped. The bagel, well, not as chewy as I like and not overly flavorful. The other knock was there was a bit of garlic flavor on it (cross contamination from a previous customer's bagel?). I'm not fond of garlic with my cinnamon and raisin bagels. When we spend Christmas in Dallas lately we have been doing Shugs bagels on Christmas mornings. Of course with bagels there are always a lot of vegetarian options! This year we did everything and onion bagels and we had the green onion cream cheese and the garlic cream cheese. I like savory bagels the best but they also have sweet bagels if that is something you are looking for. In general the quality of the bagels here are really good. I normally don't like bagels that aren't toasted, but you can eat the bagels here untoasted and they are still going to taste really good without being too chewy! When it comes to bagels, there are plenty to choose from and they are always fresh and fluffy. My favorite thing to get is an everything bagel breakfast sandwich with a hashbrown and always add hot sauce! Although this place is quite busy almost everyday, service is always fast and efficient and they get your order out to you way quicker than you'd think. No matter how busy, the restaurant seems to always be stocked with bagels and drinks, so you'll never miss out on getting what you want. As for the restaurant itself, it is always clean and the decor really adds to the whole experience. I've been on a bagel kick lately and Shug's is happily getting added to the rotation. The shop itself is fairly small and I went during Christmas break so it was super packed on the inside and the line was almost out the door, with good reason. I grabbed a Ridgewood Bagel with pepper jack cheese to go, there are three thick cut slices of Taylor ham, egg and I got the pepper jack cheese instead of the American. The ham has a delicious savory flavor and it's not sweet which I honestly don't care for anyway so I really enjoyed it, even though it wasn't a smoky ham it was still really tasty. I love that they wrap the bagel in foil because it keeps it nice and warm until you can bite into that chewy bagel deliciousness with each bite, yuuuuum!! read more

WHAT I ORDERED: Spicy Shug's bagel with everything bagel, Classic Lox Bagel with everything bagel and jalapeno cream cheese PARKING: Busy parking lot for the strip mall but I was able to quickly find parking INSIDE: was packed as well but only a few people ahead of me in line to order. I went in around 1pm and maybe waited 10 minutes for my order to come out? Friendly staff. Bathrooms are available near the back. There looked to be a bench along the wall with others waiting for their orders and a small area inside for seating. There's also seating outside. THE FOODS: Both bagels were good and satisfied my bagel sandwich craving. Both bagels came out to around $30 so while this won't be a place I visit on a weekly basis, I still would come back and order here again. 2nd time here but this time I got the lox and cheese! I just came back from a NYC trip so I was super excited to try the lox and cheese at Shug's. Least to say, I was disappointed with it. 1) There was way too much cream cheese to the point where I could barely taste the salmon and had to take some cheese off. There was more cream cheese than salmon tbh. 2) There was an additional charge to EVERY add on. Charged for the bagel, cream cheese.. at the end it was like $20 for one single bagel. 3) We requested for our bagels to be "lightly toasted" but it still tasted overly toasted and a bit burnt. There may have been a charge for that request too tbh, I wouldn't be surprised. The vibe is pretty nice in the shop but for the price... I don't think it's worth it. I've been here before so I had no negative thoughts coming in, but paying so much to be disappointed was not worth it for me (especially when it's such a long drive to get here). Came here on a Friday night! Pretty cool concept to an after hours bagel place where you can sit outside and eat. We got the pesto chicken bagel and a pizza bagel, which were about $12.50 and $8.50 respectively. Both were okay. The pesto chicken bagel would have been good without the balsamic sauce, which I will opt out of next time. They don't list out the prices of the bagels if you opted for something like the bagel sandwiches that we got, but they list out the cost of each individual ingredient I believe. The piece of chicken itself costed $6 bucks alone which is a little ridiculous. It held up its crispiness very well, but it was quite thin. I'm not sure what happened, but we ended up waiting nearly 40-45 min for the pizza bagel. They didn't tell us why but gave us a few sweet teas for free likely due to this. Someone said this is comparable to NYC. As someone who visits NYC often, this does not live up to their standards. It lacks the crispy exterior. Honestly, it's hard to get this outside of the Jersey/NY in general. I really wanted to love this place because bagel places are fairly rare here. I'd still return when I'm craving bagels, but it's not necessarily my top choice. I was still quite hungry after eating the entire bagel. To begin, upon entry, it's a little confusing as to whether this is a cafe where people can get work done or a college students hangover remedy where they can gossip about the previous night's happenings with their friends.
