Quality Indian food with amazing flavor. We ordered the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan, the saag paneer, the chicken pakora. All were amazing!!! The chicken tikka masala has such a distinct flavor, not too spicy, not too watery-- creamy with warm flavor notes. I ate here today for the first time because the office was getting food and I didn't have a choice. This was also the first time eating Pakistanian food since moving to New Orleans 9 years ago. This food today reminded me why I haven't had Pakistanian or Indian food here. ITS SCARY and just terrible. The Saag Paneer was mediocre but not terrible, but overly spicy. Like the spice and warming spices didnt have that nice balance that really great Saag Panner has. The most disappointing part of the meal was the naan bread. It wasn't even naan and it didn't even resemble what's advertised. It looked like day old frozen pizza crust. It was tough and chewy and dense. I consider myself very familiar with Indian food since I always eat at different Indian restaurants and Indian food is my favorite. Unless specified, the spice level is not spicy at all or mild. I have a high spice tolerance but you can request your preferred spice level. I ate here several times since I moved here and usually it is pretty good. The service is great and the waitress is very friendly. However, last time we ate here my mom and sister both ordered chicken meals (Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala) and had food poisoning. I was lucky I ordered a vegetarian meal. Just be cautious when ordering chicken, I guess. Other than that, I will be coming back and my family will most likely order vegetable meals also. Amazing food. I'm Indian and I definitely miss all the Indian options I had in New York but this place is amazing. They offer a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes, fluffy naan in different flavors and even Mediterranean wraps too so my husband can get his gyro. I got the GOAT CURRY (with cauliflower and potatoes). The meat was so tender and the curry was rich and aromatic, with an awesome kick of spicy. It's the type of curry you crave on a cold, rainy day. I want to try the lamb curry or the chicken tikka masala next. My friend got a BEEF BIRYANI (rich dish) and it was equally delicious. The long-grain basmati was cooked really well. The meat, again, was really tender. I also got some beef samosas to-go, which was also delicious. Though it was packed in a styrofoam box and the heat from the samosas melted the container a little (ask them to put a layer of foil wrapper down if you want this to-go). The only downside was probably the disappointing garlic naan. The garlic flavor weren't really present apart of sprinkles of dehydrated garlic chunks. Go for rice as a side instead. Let's start with authenticity of origin food. It's not original from anywhere. In Pakistani food never heard of tandoori chicken first get deep fried put red color on it and call it tandoori chicken. Its absolutely insult of tandoori chicken. Then 2nd thing is Baryani. You can't serve hard boiled yellow food color water down rice with couple pieces of chicken in it. That's not baryani. I had been wanting to hit this location up for a while. I finally had a chance to come with my good friends. She got a seafood dish and I opted for the special of lamb curry. I usually love lamb but the curry flavor disguised the gaminess that I love. I will probably stick to chicken or something that has a clean palate for the yummy sauces! I ordered ginger naan. It was stuffed with the good stuff. We both ordered entrees 2 naans and we had a ton of food to take home. I wasn't the cheapest lunch but it is quality authentic Indian food in Louisiana. This place is a little hole in the wall in a small strip off Vets. It was clean and extremely casual on the inside. The service was pretty basic and so was the food. The prices are very fair. There is a large vegetarian entree section which I really appreciated. We ordered aloo gobi and of course saag/palak paneer which seemed to be interchangeable here. The naan was very good. The rest of the food I found a little bland, the saag paneer more so than the aloo gobi. Not to say it wasn't good or edible because it was, it was just the most basic Indian/Pakistani food I've had. I do have to say that I enjoyed their paneer because it was cut into large chunks and had a good chew to it. If you're on Vets and craving this cuisine Shyan's will hit the spot. Yup ok. Shyan's is flat out amazing. I cannot honestly remember the last time I've had paratha ($1.59 for a small. ate it too quickly to snap a photo) just like we ate in India almost 10 years ago. I burnt my mouth with the freshly cooked naan and mutter panner ($10.99) because I couldn't not wait for it to cool down. 10/10 would order again. The channa chicken ($11.99) was also good and flavorful, but the mutter panner was just awesome. Everyone working there was friendly and attentive. You can tell how much pride they put in their food. I have come here on several occasions, though my most recent visit followed quite a bit of time that I had not been and I was craving their food. Their garlic naan is always so good, I have one order to eat there with my meal, and get an order to go so I can have it later. Even if you have had it in the refrigerator, a few second in the microwave will perk it right up and make it yummy-licious! In a small spot on Houma, just off Veterans BLVD, there are two other store fronts in this tiny strip mall. There is ample signs in front so you know that you are in the correct place. The wait staff is very friendly, every time I have come, you seat yourself. They will bring out a menu and take your beverage order. At this time, there is no alcohol served. The interior is brightly painted, everything is clean. All of the food I have tried is really good. If you do not like your food too spicy, just ask them about the dish before ordering, and ask them to dial down the spices or crank them up, most of the time, they are accommodating. I am sure there are some dishes that can not be dialed down on the spice, but I haven't come across it. I really like this place, though I might not visit frequently, I always know where to go when I am having this kind of craving. The parking lot is small, but has enough parking. The inside is brightly painted, clean, and the wait staff are all friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. read more

Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Nothing specifically wrong with this place at all. Just not as bright or open of a space as most other restaurants nowadays. It does feel a little warm in here every time I come in but that may just be because their kitchen generates so much heat that it runs into the dining room. Food: 5/5 Consistently remains my favorite Indian/Pakistani restaurant I've ever tried. Never been disappointed by any of the food I've ever ordered here and of course every time I bring new people, I have to try what they get too. (: My go to dish is always the Gobi Gosht which is goat, potatoes and cauliflower in a wonderfully spiced sauce. No cream or yogurt and similar to a curry. I always recommend upgrading from their regular naan to one of their premium flavors (like garlic naan or cheese naan) for a small additional price. Also, their pakora and samosas are always served hot AND delicious. Even their vegetarian ones have SO MUCH flavor. I'll continue to try more from them but I do love their goat liver entree too (which has more Punjabi spice). Chicken Tikka Masala, Smoked Chicken Masala, and Fish Curry are always wonderful too. Service: 4.5/5 Always direct and to-the-point service. My servers usually don't stick around to chat but that's fine with me as I usually come to eat on my own and just like the quiet. YUMMMMMMM! This place is amazing; a little short on ambiance, but boy do they make up for it with food! We started with the Vegetable Samosas. It's described as "Crispy stuffed vegetable pyramid filled with potatoes and mild spices." I say these are incredible little potato pillows and I want MORE. Best part of the meal, for sure, but that's not to say the other dishes were lacking. This was just THAT GOOD. I had the Saag Shrimps (Delicious shrimps Masala cooked with spinach and fresh spices for added flavor) as my entree along with the Jalapeno Cilantro Naan. This was super green and dark, loaded with shrimp and Indian/Pakistani spices, and absolutely wonderful (although still not as good as the Samosas. Oh man!). New to Indian food, so I'm not even sure how to describe it, except to say it was scrumptious. My friend ordered the Smoked Chicken Masala, a chef's special. Ok, this was really close to the Samosas for being tasty; not as exotic tasting as the Saag, but super delicious and with a little creamy aspect the Saag was lacking. I love this little spot. I stopped in while I was out running errands and I wasn't sure what to expect. It is a bit of a hole in the wall, but I guess that's where all of the hidden gems are. The service was fantastic, it seems like a family run place which I love. The food was really good, I particularly loved the falafels. As many Yelpers previously mentioned, Indian food in Metairie is hard to come by and I'm quite happy to have this little gem located in our area. Matt and I have been craving Indian ever since our first encounter with Chicken Tikka Masala at Sippin' in Seersucker, so after a quick Yelp search we decided to give Shyan's a try and I must admit that as usual my fellow Yelpers did not steer me wrong! It was pretty late on a Wednesday night when we began our search- probably around 8:30pm?, so we were pleasantly surprised to discover that Shyan's stays open until 10pm. Major score. I don't know of many restaurants in the Metairie area that stay open past 9pm with the exception of fast food so this definitley gives Shyan an edge on the competition in the general restaurant scene. When I called to place an order to go a gentleman answered the phone and was ready to jot down my order. I asked for an order of the Chicken Tikka Masala, to which he replied with rice or Naan? I said both, he said you got it! Couldn't have been an easier transaction. We arrived around 9pm to pick up our order and were surprised to see how busy they were- I mean the parking lot was packed! Definitley a good sign. Most businesses in this location has done poorly in the past. I've probably seen three different restaurants at that very location (not including Shyan's) in the past five years so I'm very very happy to see that not only are they doing well, they're thriving! I didn't know what to expect considering many of their reviews are for dine in. When I pulled our order out of the bag I was happy to see that familiar color and consistency of Masala, but now it had to pass the real test, Taste! Wow! The flavor packed into this Tikka Masala is tremendous. The chicken was very tender and juicy, but the sauce itself was spicy and seasoned well. The naan was amazing! I've never had naan before, but I now know that I definitley prefer naan to pita. Shyan's is definitley worth a visit if you like Indian Cuisine or just want to try something new, and if you do I definitley recommend trying the Chicken Tikka Masala. read more

First off, outstanding service. I ordered takeout, chicken biryani and muttar paneer. As I was waiting I noticed they had a new arrival, my all time favourite, Malai Kofta. The kitchen hasn't started making the muttar paneer yet, so they let me swap it for the malai kofta! The Malai Kofta is amazing! The sauce is a bit thicker than any other I had, which makes it easier to eat without the rice. I enjoyed the biryani as well. I got medium spice and I don't think I will order the spicy option.
