We came during their anniversary special (Nov 1-11) and got a deal for their five-course meal. Every dish was outstanding. The spice level was spot on, the oil never felt heavy, and the aroma alone was enough to make you hungry again. Our server, Chace, was wonderful. Dry Fried String Beans were so delicious. Cooked in diced scallions and onions, a great addition to your meal! Original KungPao surprisingly different than the usual you'd get. It has little bits of ginger that really bring out the flavor of the meal. Impression Cold Noodles have a little kick to them, you can eat them with warmer foods or have it like that. Overall the restaurant is clean, comfortable and has a great aesthetic. Definitely want to try one of the teas here next time! We went here around noon on Sunday and we were seated right away. There is free parking in a garage behind the restaurant on 3rd street. The inside is nicely decorated, it has a minimal, clean, and modern feel. We came here for their DineLA menu and the food came out fresh and fast. They also brought ice waters immediately after being seated. I brought my six year old who is trying out spicy food, so I had to choose a few non-spicy dishes. 4/5 Couple's Sliced Beef in Chili Sauce Fuqi Feipian is one of my go to cold appetizers. This dish comes with beef, tripe, and tendon marinated in chili oil. 3/5 Home-Style Fried Rice Standard fried rice with no meat. 3/5 Stir-Fried Beef with scallion The beef was tender, but the dish was overwhelmed with onion. The ratio did not seem proportionate. It is non-spicy. 4/5 Boiled Fish with Rattan Pepper This was the spiciest dish we ordered. The fish was great and did not taste spicy to me. The veggies seemed to soak the broth in rattan peppers. 4/5 Tender Bamboo Shoots in Chili Sauce The bamboo was tender and coated in chili oil. I enjoyed this dish. We also added additional dish: 5/5 Tea Smoked Pork Rib The meat was so tender that the bones falls out. It is a non-spicy dish, so great for sharing with non-spicy eaters and kids. This is a place where if I can give more than 5 stars, I definitely would! This location is new since they just recently moved from an older location, but glad that they did since parking situation has become so much easier and convenient! There is a large parking structure behind the restaurant, so definitely one less thing to worry about. The restaurant is also very spacious and very bright, that give a welcoming vibe (imo)! Not to mention the amazing staffs who are very friendly and patient towards their customers. While Sichuan province in China is known for their mala (numb and spicy) taste, Sichuan Impression's dishes have a very good balance on the numb and spicy where none of which is extremely overwhelming the other. As for the food, there are just too many to like. These are the list of the ones that I usually order, but please note that there are many other dishes that others may like to order that I do not list here. There are the stir fried pork intestine, stir fried boneless chicken, rattan pepper fish, boiled fish in red sauce, toothpick cumin lamb, and last but not least, garlic stir-fried taiwanese A-cai (veggies). Personally, I think the must orders are the stir fried pork intestines (if you are into fried intestines), toothpick lamb, boiled fish in red sauce, and the garlic stir fried taiwanese A-cai. All these dishes are well seasoned and the veggies has the wokhei flavor! Since my original review, I've ordered delivery at least another dozen or so times. The improvement and efforts are to be commended. If I place two orders of kung pao chicken, I no longer have to worry that I get half the flavor. I hope this trend continues. When I place multiple orders of to-go rice, they no longer jam multiple orders in one container, they keep the container to two orders maximum. They also don't fill it up all the way to prevent excess moisture. Unfortunately, the rice is still clumpy and mushy. I think the travel distance is just too far. If you are in a position to desire delivery instead of driving to pick up, it's probably already too far to expect the rice to survive the trip without becoming mushy. My solution was just to purchase a rice cooker. I got a Zojirushi NW-QAC10 and used Tamanishiki rice. The rice paired perfectly with the kung pao chicken and boiled fish filet with chili sauce. The rice cooker turned out to be a game changer as I discovered I avoided many Asian restaurants due to their inconsistent rice--President Thai is another example. I can now confidently give all of these places another shot as well. Without having to worry about mushy rice, I can happily revise the score here to 5/5. read more

As soon as they opened their doors at 11:30am, the seats were quickly filled. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. The prix fixe menu looked super attractive. We ordered the cold noodle, spicy sliced beef & tendons, chicken mushroom rice soup (literally rice in soup), stir fried beef with scallions, and spicy fish fillets. I was here in August 2023 with a party of four. We didn't have a reservation, but it was a full house inside - even on a weeknight! Two people came later but they still sat us first. I'm on the border giving between 3 and 4 star-rating for Sichuan Impression. I'll go with 3 since 3.5 seems to be a good thing for Chinese restaurants. This place looked new because it was modern and clean inside. They had a huge counter in the back that looks like it might have belonged to a boba shop in the past. Ordering is on QR code that is at the table. You can do individual or group order. We started with the smoked tea duck. I think I've had better elsewhere, so this was just ok for me. Next Mr & Mrs Smith appetizer was delicious. There were big slices of meat. It was spicy - loved it! Fried intestines was good, also nice and spicy. The water boiled fish came in a pretty bowl with a fancy ladle. This dish is usually very flavorful, but its presentation was more overwhelming than the taste. We got a pitcher of plum drink, and it was satisfying with all the spicy food. We had leftovers and the servers obliged us with take out boxes. Parking - free on the street. It was back in 2018 when I ate at this restaurant when it was located on Valley Blvd. After a Saint Patrick's Day evening of revelry at Limerick's we stopped by here for dinner. The new style chic interior is very nice and feels very open. We ordered the Kung Pao chicken, Twice Cooked Pork, and steam rice. The service was quick and the food ended up being delicious. The Kung Pao was made sweet compared to how they make it at other restaurants and the pork dish was so good with lots of vegetables. read more

The food here is very flavorful with an abundant assortment of bright notes of peppercorn and dried Chiles from Sichuan. It's not too spicy or numbing to the point that it's unbearable, but there is an extra spicy option available for those that desire it. I love how the aromatic peppery notes of the Sichuan peppercorn permeates throughout the various dishes. I had the toothpick cumin lamb and it was bursting in flavor. The only complaint is that the lamb was not very tender. It was chewy and tough with bits of chewy fat. I don't know if lamb is supposed to be this way or not, I've never experience chewy lamb before. Service was very quick, but not very friendly. I had a four star review in the works but I need to downgrade to a 2 star. After today's visit I am not likely to ever return. There is NO issue with service. Service was lovely and my party was helped by a friendly guy to find steamed rice for our order using the Toast app. Likewise, the "ambiance" is a non-issue. Even the Christmas music that played to my partner's chagrin was not overstimulating. However, the place could benefit from some real sound dampening because all the other diners here are loud as fuck. My issue is with the food. My first visits here were pretty good. I was happy to have access to the Impressive Bean Jelly here when unable to go to the other location on West Valley Boulevard. However, even then... this location does not measure up to the older spot. The impressive sauce was off. It's not the same here as it is at West Valley. I kept giving it more chances but it just kept going downhill. Most of the other entrees are solid, but one thing I didn't ever want to have here was the Mapo Tofu. Chengdu Taste is hard to topple and I'm not interested in finding alternates. On the recommendation of an acquaintance to give this a chance, I came tonight for mapo tofu. Just in case, we packed our little box of hua jiao fen (peppercorn powder) from our last Chengdu Taste visit. The mapo tofu here was savory, but there was enough wrong with it that my trust in this location is gone. I checked off "with meat" on the ordering for all my dishes including the fried string beans and the meat was not substantial at all. We thought it was missing altogether after poking around the bowl and not coming up with any more. Also, it was wholly devoid of the power Chengdu Taste puts in their own mapo tofu. No actual heat from capsaicin whatsoever.... Still, this was serviceable tofu, good texture, and the salt levels were enjoyable. But the meat was not present. We also got the dry-fried string beans and the cute pumpkin-red bean pastry. It was a real shame how fucking oily these two items were. I couldn't finish my typical portion and my partner expressed wanting to puke it back up to feel lighter from all the oil. It just felt half-assed in the kitchen today and after slight disappointments growing with every visit, I really don't want to give another chance. I was feeling like eating something spicy on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and we scouted for a place on Yelp and found Sichuan Impression. Our first impression? Beautiful interior, friendly staff, and a wide variety of authentic Sichuan dishes. They had everything from the classic Sichuan dishes like Mao Cai 锦城里冒菜 and Mini Lamb Skewer 竹签羊肉 to Mushroom Chicken Soup and Rice 口蘑鸡汤饭 and even my favorite dessert, they call it: School Yard Ice Jelly 校园冰粉. My boyfriend and I arrived at the restaurant at 5:07 pm, just 7 minutes after their 5 pm opening and it was already filled. I'm glad we decided to come early. Since we were a party of two, they did seat us at a 2-person table when there were bigger tables available but that's alright. It was just a big hard to fit ALL of our dishes haha! We ordered: Shredded Potatoes 土豆丝, Smoked Pig Ear 熏香猪耳, Boiled Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce 水煮鱼片, and School Yard Ice Jelly 校园冰粉. For me, the ice jelly stole the show and was honestly why I was excited to visit Sichuan Impression, just for the ice jelly (not going to lie)! I know its probably the most simple dish to make here but I was genuinely happy with every bite I got to take of this ice jelly! Definitely try it! As for the Shredded Potatoes 土豆丝, Smoked Pig Ear 熏香猪耳, and Boiled Fish Fillets in Chili Sauce 水煮鱼片...they were their own MVP of the night. What could I ask more of with comforting dishes that felt like a warm hug with great flavor? I will say that I ordered the Smoked Pig Ear 熏香猪耳 as a last resort since my boyfriend was a little rushing me and although it wasn't my favorite, the crunchiness of it was oddly satisfying and the texture played a fun part! The Boiled Fish Fillets were also so tendor it practically melted in my mouth and the chili sauce added the perfect kick, numbing spicy and so flavorful! Overall, Sichuan Impression was a great experience that I won't soon forget. I went here on a Sunday for dinner and it was fairly busy - a little under 30 minutes wait for a party of 2, and we were sat at one of those tables where you sit side by side facing a wall, which is a bit more intimate and offers better lighting for pictures and has more space, but it can be a bit secluded and a weird set up if you go with someone you are not close with. We were served a cup of water, which is definitely necessary as the food is quite spicy! We got the mini lamb skewers and boiled fish with rattan pepper. The lamb is fairly solid - it has a nice kick with a bunch of cilantro, and the lamb is not gamey at all. The boiled fish is also pretty good - it does not look spicy but it has a lot of the Sichuan numbing spicy peppercorn. You pay extra for rice, which is $1.50 per bowl, and one bowl of rice is more than enough for 2 people if you want to just have something to eat with for the entrees. Service is good as food is delivered fairly quickly. However, we were unable to flag any server to fill water, which given the spiciness of the food, may be a necessity for some people. This made the dining experience a little bit suboptimal. I got the cumin lamb, twice cooked pork and the ratten pepper fish. The first 2 dishes were mostly onion, and other vegetables so it wasn't a lot of meat. 2 hours eating, I felt very lethargic then by evening, my stomach was hurting and I threw up 3 times.
