It was a drizzly morning and my first visit at the Garden Valley Farmer's market but the brightest part was the event was the amazing goodies that showed up at their table. Nice breakfast option for the South Fork of the American River whitewater rafting area Here for a rafting trip with Beyond Limits just next door. I was first up and out of my tent and was not the designated coffee maker so I wandered over to Siera Rizing thinking I would just get some coffee. I was impressed with the specialty coffee offerings and treated myself to a Mexican Mocha ($3.35). I also took two generous packages of day old pastries (It looks like there is a bakery on site) at $5.00 each for the rest of the crew. We popped in here to kill some time before rafting, and decided to grab a cup of coffee and morning muffin to nosh. The coffee shop itself is small and old, nothing to write home about. Same for the service (it being "meh," not that the workers are small and old.) They boast a surprisingly large menu for espresso drinks, but they seemed kind of pricey. The muffin we got was flavorful, but really dense and dry. That, plus a medium soy latte, totaled $6.00 - yikes. A bonus, though, is that this place is open super early. The coffee hit the spot, and I would recommend this place for anyone before hitting up rafting, but may skip the muffin in favor of something else next time. read more

Pretty good little bakery. The pastries are all pretty good. I love the box of day old pastries that you can buy for 5 dollars and get a bunch of yummy treats. Great place for quick pastry & coffee before your raft trip. My personal favorites is the chocolate croissant and chocolate chip cookie. I'm not sure why but their iced latte's are better tasting than their hot ones. They just came up with a super great idea, set up an express coffee and pastry line outside, which I recommend, inside takes a long time. Sierra Rizing has a great atmosphere and awesome vibe. Sierra Rizing did our wedding cake and cupcakes and it was all amazing! I asked her to do a naked cake and it came out perfect. The cupcakes were so cute and delicious. As beautiful as everything was, I thought it would cost a fortune, but the prices were so reasonable and she delivered and set the cake and cupcakes out for us. Teal catered our wedding on 10/16/2010 at the American River Resort and everything was so wonderful. She was super accommodating, the food was delicious and the prices were VERY reasonable. We had the stuffed mushroom caps, bruschetta, roasted potatoes, cesar salad, roasted rosemary chicken, and veggie lasagna. The food was not only yummy, but presented beautifully I'm still hearing about how good the lasagna was!!! At the wedding, I asked Teal if she had received the payment for the food and she told me she had, even though she hadn't, which proved she knows her business - don't stress out the bride! It sounds like maybe their cakes are pretty darn good, but this review is just for coffee and snacks. First off if you are rafting/camping with one of the companies surrounding the shopping center they are located in this is a very convenient stop if you are needing food and coffee. They have a great outdoor seating area and when we were there they even had live music playing at 8am... pretty cool. On the weekends they will be PACKED, everyone camping in the surrounding area will pack in here all messed up from sleeping on the ground and cranky wanting their coffee, so be ready for that. I ordered a mexican hot chocolate, which was just hot chocolate with cinnamon in it, not exactly a "mexican" hot chocolate, but still pretty good. We shared a strawberry cream cheese croissant (SO GOOD) and a cajun meat pie thingy. The meat pie was tasty, but kind of dry, could have use some kind of sauce inside, and not spicy in any way (great for me since I'm a big spicy wimp, but not if you were expecting cajun to be spicy... that would be silly right?) On a side note... on their lovely patio with live music playing there were several tables, but two of them were taken up by one person each. Neither of them eating or drinking anything; both just reading the paper and taking up space. Mean-while there are many people just milling around for lack of seating trying (unsuccessfully) to eat their food and drink their coffee while standing. This is an example of unacceptable manners people. In a busy restaurant situation it is common courtesy to relinquish your table as soon as you are done eating. Especially if you are the only one sitting at a table that could seat 4 people!!! (Argh!) read more

I ordered a few of the meals for my school's Intensive Studies Trip with students and their parents from Sierra Rizing (2 dinners and a bagged lunch for 40 people) and oh my gosh, can I tell you, they completely blew us away :) Working with Teal was a dream. Ordering was super easy. I was able to provide all the allergies and dietary restrictions ahead of time and Teal helped come up with a great menu that met all our families' needs. Out of 40 people, I received 0 complaints! There is something to be said about 0 food complaints on a school trip :) The delivery to the campsite we were all staying at was super smooth and all communication ahead of time was much appreciated. The dinners and lunch were delicious. Everyone super enjoyed their meals and the presentation was lovely. We hope to be repeating this school trip and will certainly be returning to Sierra Rizing for all of our local food needs :) read more

The light roast coffee was delicious, and the scone was freshly baked and it was one of the BEST scones I had in my life. This cafe has a variety of freshly baked treats, and breakfast options. A traditional Scottish wedding cake is a fruitcake, well mellowed in Sherry for 3 months and then decorated. Very few bakeries make these. I made my mother's fruitcake recipe and contacted Teal at Sierra Rizing Bakery about the decoration. She had not decorated a fruitcake before but was well up to the challenge. She did a fantastic job, delivered and set up. Best of all the icing complemented the fruitcake well and believe it or not, most of the guests really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend Teal for your baking and decorating needs, I've eaten frequently at Sierra Rizing Bakery and can attest to the deliciousness of everything I've enjoyed there. Pros: nice desserts. One of few places to grab food in the area. Cons: Nasty attitudes! My friend ordered a sandwich that looked like it had been through a food fight, complete with canned tomato sauce- gross. When she politely mentioned she would like to order something else while pointing out the problem with the sandwich things went terribly wrong. The woman working there told her she probably ordered the wrong thing and then refused to exchange or sub anything! I've never seen anything like it! We thought there was a hidden camera somewhere! I am a wedding photographer and never post a review about wedding vendors. But this was so bad, I had to! They catered the food at a wedding and did the wedding cake of a recent wedding I did. The POOR BRIDE! First, when the reception started, they hadn't even arrived yet. NO food for the guests. They ended up arriving and serving dinner more than an hour late. They only had ONE server in a buffet line plating the dishes. You could not help yourself. The ONE person they had doing everything spent a good 5 minutes talking to each guest and getting to know them on a personal level while over 100 people were waiting to be served. I'm sorry, you are there to work and please these guests. NOT chat up a storm and cause the other guests to stand in line forever. They were already starving since you showed up so late. THE CAKE! Well this is really bad! I'm not sure where the owner went after she finally arrived with the food. But she still didn't have the cake. She finally arrived ONE HOUR before the reception ended with the cake. Finally the bride and groom can cut their cake. Not really. The cake was so frozen, they couldn't even cut a knife through it. This is the worst catering company I have ever witnessed in over 100 wedding I have worked. BEWARE the food was horrible, they were rude and snobby, VERY late and didn't seem to care a bit that she ruined this wedding day! Horrible, horrible! read more

I hired Teal to do our wedding cake and cater a breakfast the morning of our wedding day and she was so amazing. First the breakfast came right on time and her assistant Blue was there to help with everything too. The quiche was so delicious and the pasties were super fresh and soft. Then she came back a few hours later to drop off the cake and cupcakes. All we did was leave the cake plates and flowers on the table and she came and set everything up. The table looked gorgeous. The food is okay, if you are there on a day when flies aren't buzzing inside the bakery counter on the foodstuffs...yech. My issue is the inconsistency in service. One day I went there and bought a croissant and was charged $2.00. The next day I bought the same thing and was charged $2.25. A week later, $2.00 again. It's the Price of the Day! The owner, Teal, is less than friendly unless she knows you. It's kinder to believe that she is shy as opposed to just unfriendly. But I've seen her stand and talk to someone while waiting on them about personal business while the line of people stands behind and waits...and waits.... I ordered a caprese panini and was expecting a panini with a fresh element since it was described as having sun dried tomatoes and basil and instead received a limp cheese flatbread sandwich with 2 very small sun dried tomatoes and even smaller slices of basil. I went to the cashier and asked if it would be possible to exchange my panini for something else and she agreed to exchange it. A couple minutes later another personnel brought back my panini and let me know that she was not going to exchange it since it was my fault I had mis-interpreted the description of the sandwich. She then very rudely proceeded to let me know that if I wanted something else I would have to pay for it. I was there with my family and friends and we were all left in shock as she walked away. I could jot leave it at that and went back up to speak with her and let her know that she had handled that with very bad customer service and she responded by letting me know if I had problem I could talk to the owner. I really hope the owner reads these and encourage him/her to review proper customer service etiquette with personnel. read more

I recently used Sierra Rizing's catering and bakery services for my wedding. I can not thank Teal (owner) and her employees enough for the exceptional services we received. The wedding was a little over 100 people. The menu consisted of chicken, beef, and vegan options along with whole little potatoes and rice. Everything was so delicious and turned out perfectly. The cake and cupcakes were my absolute favorite part (due to my sweet tooth most likely), I requested a "naked" cake with fresh flowers as décor. The cake/cupcakes were so moist and just the right amount of sweetness. Can't wait to relive the cake on our 1 year anniversary!
