Friends who ordered coffee were equally disappointed with their drinks. Based on previous reviews, I guess tea is their forte. - Service: Of my group of six people, five ordered drinks. After we sat down with our drinks, within 5 minutes, one of the staff members came over with a menu to ask the remaining person to order. Having just had lunch, the last member of our party politely declined. However, the staff member insisted that if he didn't order, we would all have to leave. I have been on a dessert binge lately. Hoping I would get fat, not working at all. My friends recommended this place because it has Taiwanese shaved ice. The cost is $5 which includes a choice of 2 toppings. They served it in a martini glass, which is quite unusual. I thought the portions were a bit small. If you want really good hot tea, this is the place to go. I wouldn't go for the bubble tea or smoothies, though. My favorite hot teas there are the Dried Passion Fruit and the Cinnamon Pineapple. A cozy spot found in the craziness of Chinatown. Definitely caters to the younger generation living and coming into the area. It was a nice place to enjoy tea, study, and relax. I got there first so I ordered myself a hazelnut coffee, I asked if it'll be sweet. Was promised it wasn't and saw the lady make it as well. Took that coffee and just picked a table. I didn't see a lot of outlets - which was fine since I didn't have my laptop with me. There's seating areas with tables and outlets to charge your laptop if you're bringing one. The fruity drinks aren't that great but who comes here for that? I highly recommend it as long as you are able to find a vacant table to settle down at. I came around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, and it was a little tough to find a table, but if you're able to come in at a non-busy hour, this is the place to enjoy a nice cup of tea and read a book/get work done. My friend's caramel hazelnut milkshake with lychee, on the other hand, was creamy and milky without being overly sweet. The menu also features fruit smoothies and various teas meant for two people (though I'm sure one person could take care of it), as well as bagels, waffles, and sweet toast. If you're craving actual dessert, they have Eileen's cheesecakes for $4 and shaved ice. The two people manning the cashier and making the drinks were really nice. We had really high expectations for this Coffee Spot on Mott Street. As a self-proclaimed Gourmet Coffee Spot in Chinatown, we expected really good coffee, really good service and really good homemade baked goods. For some reason that we can't recall, we ended up only getting the tea at this place, instead of the coffee. So we can't really judge the coffee, but based on other reviews it sounds like the coffee is great here. What disappointed us was the fact that while we were waiting for our tea, we saw the staff bring in a ton of baked goods from Costco. Not only was their baked goods, we saw a lot of frozen foods that are common occurrences in Costco. This tells us that the food and baked goods here are bought and resold, not really fresh or homemade. Though the tea was good, we didn't like the way the food is being resold. Once we saw this, it ruined the whole place for us. If we do come back here, maybe we'll try the coffee next time. Seems like you usually get ample room, and Silk Road looks pretty hip and nice inside, especially compared to other Chinatown establishments. But you get what you pay for, right? Drinks are much more expensive than down the block. I got an expensive Hong Kong milk tea, although I did receive the benefit of having a nice chair and table to sit at, in a fairly pleasing setting. The drink itself was fine, but nothing remarkable.
