Having been in Nome Alaska for the last six weeks, I was looking forward to a good meal and nice beer at affordable prices. Looking at the reviews for Silver Gulch and comparing the other options and menus at the airport, Silver Gulch, by far, had the most diverse menu and decent prices for an airport. Unfortunately, they lived up to their 3 star average. As I sat down I sat for quite awhile before I was even acknowledged and the service was at a Nome Alaska, no hurry pace, instead of the typical airport service. I ordered a 40 Below Stout and the Carne Diavlo Brick Oven Pizza. The stout was good and originally I rated it at a 3.75 on Untapped but unlike most stouts and porters, it did not warm well . I was trying to stretch it out to enjoy with my pizza but I had to drink it quickly to enjoy. I changed my rating to a 3.5. The Carne Diavlo pizza was Ground Beef, Bacon, Jalapeno, Feta, Gruyere, and Mozzarella. It was an ok pizza but the beef was unseasoned, the bacon was very crispy and lacking flavor, and the Jalapeno dominated the flavor profile. I love spicy dishes, but the flavor profile was Jalapeno. The crust was ok but a little greasy, the sauce was good and the cheeses were decent but clearly not high quality. By no means did I leave hungry and dissapointed but I did not leave excited to stop by on my next trip through Anchorage. Always a good place to stop and get a bite on your trip. The drink was interesting to say the least but good. The shrimp cocktail was good and nice presentation. The pocket was good but lacking flavor. No seasonings or anything special so it was a bit of a let down. read more

Lacking! Lacking food (my first 3 things I tried to order were unavailable: clam chowder (out), beer cheese soup (out), and Solstice pizza (out of all pizzas). I was also told they were out of something else (can't recall what it was anymore). Lacking! Quality. I ordered the chicken strips meal and it was disappointing. The chicken was hard and chewy. The potato wedges were amazing though! Cole slaw left something to be desired. My beer was good but overall I just felt like I would have spent less and enjoyed it more if I would have went to McDonald's across the walkway at the airport. I don't even like fast food all that much but it just was a disappointing experience here. My server was prompt and efficient, but she was only one of two in the entire place. She seemed overworked and as such I appreciated her attention and resolved to be quick in my ordering to not waste her time. I went to the original Silver Gulch in the Fairbanks area a long time ago and it was amazing! What happened? So that was last night... My friend went tonight as he was flying out a day after me. He said nearly ever beer he went to order was out. His food was "meh" and the bartender explained a beer to him as "an IPA without the hops!" (What does that even mean?). So we are 2 for 2 in the negative on this restaurant. I won't be back, even though I travel through Anchorage regularly. I hope ownership or upper management stops by soon and fixes the issues. This place has tons of potential but it feels like it's banking on good looks and mediocre food/beer/stock to be enough to capture tourist's dollars and the knowledge they won't be back because they were here on vacation and are not going to ever be regulars. Great spot to grab a bite and taste beer from a local brewery when you're waiting for a flight. The patty melt is acceptable and my buddy enjoyed his pizza but what really makes me think highly of this place is the great service and awesome view of plains departing and adding to the airport. They have a small menu of bar food and a selection of beer, wine, and cocktails, most of which incorporate Alaskan products. The drinks aren't bad and prices are about what you would expect for an airport bar. The woman attending had to be one of the most unfriendly people to ever set foot behind a bar though. read more

For this being in an airport, this place was great. The food was quite tasty and the service was spectacular. An excellent selection of beers and drinks. We had several of the things on the menu as we could not make up our minds and just passed them around. It was all quite good food. An excellent place in the terminal, especially when other places are simply closed up tight. We had to wait for a seat, but not for long. The staff was hustling it and did a wonderful job for certain! Good stuff for sure! read more

Yelp 100 Challenge 2018 - # 83/100 Located inside Anchorage airport this place is Overpriced, with food that is ok at best. Halibut and chips were oily, hush puppies had an undesirable flavor I cannot pinpoint. Onion rings were good as well as the house brewed root beer. When I asked for a side of ranch the waitress said "oh but that's 50 cents extra." Looked at her deadpanned, "OH KAYYY...!? They nickel and dime you for everything. Service? I dunno. The empty tables should have been a giveaway. Nice-looking view though I'll give it to them. We went on a winter day in February when snow is on the ground and lent beauty to everything. read more

Bloody mary was below average. Tasted like straight tomato juice with minimal spice and additional flavor. Wasn't mixed well since vodka was all sitting at the bottom of the glass. Fried pickles were nothing special and overly breaded. Friends enjoyed their pizza. Service was darn good in comparison to the rest of the experience. read more

There was quite a wait for a table, but our layover was several hours and we wanted to eat something other than McDonalds so we waited. First, let me say, the pizza was worth the wait! We started out with the jumbo shrimp cocktail and an order of smothered potato wedges. The shrimp was over cooked and a bit rubbery and the cocktail sauce needed horseradish. The potatoes were good, but nothing worth remembering. Then the pizzas came. These wood fire pizzas are amazing! So good. The ingredients are fresh, and the cooks don't skimp. We were both impressed by our pizza. They say on the menu they are person pizza size, but we still had a whole pizza left when we were done. We'd definitely return for the pizza alone. We finished our meal of sharing the apple pie and ice cream which was homemade for sure with pea and and Carmel. It was the best. The place was packed. The servers were busy, however they got our order taken and delivered and were kind doing it. My favorite part of my visit was the good service and the beautiful views from the windows. You can watch the airplanes taking off. My least favorite part was the marginal food. Also, they serve drinks in cheap-feeling little plastic cups. I got fried shrimp plate with coleslaw and Cajun spiced potato wedges. The breading on the shrimp tasted oily and the texture was too hard and wound up scraping up my mouth. I also wasn't down with the cooks leaving the shell of the shrimps tail on, underneath the breading. The coleslaw didn't feel special, and didn't taste like wasabi, which I believe it stated on the menu description. The wedges didn't taste fresh, they also were a bit hard, as if they'd been left out for a while. The service was excellent, however. Our waitress (Rianne, I think) was super attentive and all around great. Again, the views were awesome too. My partner had a beer and he said it tasted like the draft beer line wasn't clean, so he didn't even finish it. My advice is to skip this place, and head upstairs to the Alaska Lounge. It costs $25/person (a visit) if u have an AkAir VISA, maybe less or free depending on your member status. You get a full bar (with glasses, no plastic!), variety of snacks, soup, TVs, espresso, recharging for your devices, recliners AND the same views. read more

Beer-Bier-Brew-Brau. Cannot miss with the pints on tap. Alaska has such epic breweries, and Silver Gulch Brewery does a great job of maintaining this stigma. There is food with careful attention to using prime ingredients, but certainly plays second fiddle to the Epic Brewery. The table next to me audibly giggled biting into the BBQ beef sandwich. I can't make that up-maybe it was the beers. read more

Alaska Airlines lounge let's you bring in food (three cheers!) so went down to find something. This was right below. Got the Rueben egg rolls. Not pictured but fun. As good as it can get at an airport. Overall tough to get good vegetarian food up north here. They do have a couple of vegetarian pizzas but you have to be damn hungry to really appreciate them. Fairly decent IPAs on tap though the tasters hardly wet your palate; and for the price, go for the pint. On the plus side, friendly wait staff that got our drink and food order on time and left us alone to enjoy the meal. read more

Our last chance for a beer from 49th State Brewing. Silver Gulch seemed to have a better crowd than the other airport restaurants. Glad we stopped. read more

Perfect place to dine at if you're waiting for your flight. It has a pretty good view of where the planes take off, the prices are pretty fair for airport dining, and the service and food were good. Ted Stephen's ANC airport is really nice and is a lot of options for travelers. When flying I often steer away from fish, not sure why but I don't want to have a mid air incident. Silver Gulch provided me some options. I grabbed the "red eye" pizza, a brick oven pepperoni pie. It was a nice change of pace and was just right. For an airport restaurant this place hits all the marks, and it's locally owned. Locally meaning from Alaska, lol yeah I know it's a big place! Skip the other airport places and come here. Ambiance: Think British pub, but in an airport. Nice big wooden bar with a few nooks to tuck away if you please. If you want to hide in a corner there are plenty, if you prefer front and center at the bar meeting fellow travelers there is plenty of room there too. The menu is massive and has a large variety to meet all moods and tastes. There are lots of Alaskan specialties as well. I usually order a beer and a pizza. My go-to is Santa's Special with ground buffalo, reindeer sausage, onions, mushrooms and peppers. Then I usually have one of the dark beers on tap. Many of the other items are good, but I find pizza easy to travel with and eat on a plane for the 4 hour flight home! The bartenders/servers I have had the pleasure of meeting have all been interesting and great story tellers. Oh and ask them for menu recommendations since it is so big! Helps with narrowing down the decisions. If you are at the bar, don't be shy and talk to the traveler next to you. I find everyone in Alaska always has a great story, even if they are just passing through. If you ever get the opportunity, hit up the original Sullivan's Gulch outside of Fairbanks. read more

This is my second visit, i'm not nearly as happy this time. I stood at the "wait to be seated" sign being ignored for so long I nearly left. The wait to order and get food wasn't too bad. My chicken burger was OK, but they were really skimpy on the fries, one measly slice of lettuce to go with it and a nasty unripe tomato that I didn't eat. Great place to stop for a growler or purchase some bottles for gifts. Today in particular my husband and I decided to eat here before our flight. We weren't too hungry but still managed to find the perfect bite their cheddar beer soup....yum! The soup was nice and creamy cheesy beery deliciousness paired with their homemade pretzel. They not only have a great menu and are known for some good food fare, but their in house brewery makes some unique microbrews that are sure to please your pallate. Hmmmm probably my least favorite scotch egg in the time of being old enough to eat scotch eggs. When ordering I peruse the menu that was up on the board. You taking a look at it I did notice a scotch egg and it jumped right out at me! I was happy to oblige and indulge. I waited around and waited around and had enough time to go to Starbucks and get in line there while they prepared my Scotch egg. Upon my return I do see my Scotch tape on the counter in the window. The manager was standing around the girl behind the counter was the waiting for new people to walk up. And there were other people who are walking around behind the counter. In the meantime I was up on the counter waiting to be delivered to me. I waited and waited I asked if my egg was ready. Sigh. Finally she backed up my egg and let me on my way to catch my flight. The sausage was flavorless and was a very thin coating while it was crispy on the outside. The egg was certainly hard boiled as was the description. I do prefer the inside to be a little bit softer. Definitely this is something that needs a beer. The mustard dipping sauce did not go with this egg at all. Certainly it must need something that is more on the English HP Sauce side. Hence... at airports.. restaurants should be vigilant in knowing we are en route to a gate to get a flight. not simply standing around. Get that food to the table or out to a customer. And. Please, if you are a manager... dont just stand there. read more
