Well after coming out from a drafting exam this morning for the metropolitan cook county Chicago water reclamation plant I stumbled it into this restaurant walking along the way since it was lunch time that I finished my exam. Although I was a little down because of the exam getting half of them right and half of them wrong I was already hungry and originally I was going to go for Spanish food from Spain but saw this restaurant next to the Thai embassy of Chicago. Since I had a lot of time of parking using spot hero to the next day I decided to just have my lunch here. I must say I was very impressed for me to usually give five stars for a Thai restaurant and it's not even bougie or haute Thai. It was traditional Thai but the ingredients they used to making their curries and all the dishes I ordered that I pray before was very fresh tasting. I started off with one beverage of Thai iced tea which tasted typical and I never tasted really bad Thai iced tea where it was just too frothy with whatever they use for the cream. I then had the chicken Tom kha soup with lemon grass, Basil and mushroom served in traditional sukhothai clay pots and it was a wow delicious. The mushrooms, lemon grass, basil and other ingredients were really fresh with the chicken. I then had the beef red curry also served in traditional sukhothai clay pot and it too tasted like very fresh traditional Thai ingredients like how I remember eating and dining in Thailand back in 2016 Bangkok. Most Thai restaurants here the ingredients are present or The taste and aroma is present but the freshness is not in regards to Basil lemongrass or any of the fruits over there in Thailand. It has that day before storage or refrigeration taste that is not as fresh that most Thai restaurants deliver if any other Ethnic cuisine. The service was very fast and responsive so I didn't wait too long for lunch time and for them to deliver their food was like less than 20 minutes but everything was fresh amazingly. Ambience was your traditional Thai decor but do come here the food it wasn't that expensive I spent about $40 plus the tip. It's right next to the Chicago Thai embassy building which is possibly why the food was better or fresher tasting is my assumption why Do come here if you're just passing by on this side of a rush between Erie and Superior. read more

Still a solid spot even after a decade later. My cravings often default to Thai food as of late and this hit the spot. This time around I did get to try some different items, being the papaya salad and the chicken pad Thai. I have to admit that the papaya salad is pretty spicy at the mild level, even for me who likes spicy so I can't even imagine how much spicier this could be! The chicken pad Thai had great flavor but will say that the noodles were a little bit overcooked for me. They really stuck together more and were softer and not as firm. Forgot to take some pics because it was so good couldn't wait. Saw the low star reviews but gave it a try anyways and so glad we did. I ordered Silver Spoon for takeout for lunch back in November as I wanted something warm and hearty from somewhere close to my hotel to tide me over as I wasn't going to be able to have dinner until late. I ordered through their website and got chive dumplings, Thai fried rice, and chicken satay. When I went to pick it up, there were two to go orders on the counter. I gave them my name, but they got confused. They asked me to confirm what I ordered, made me bring up the confirmation email, and only really were ready to hand over my food after the other person picking up their order got hers. By the way, she walked in, gave her name, and they handed it to her without incident. I brought the food back to my hotel a few blocks away and it held up well. I thought the chive dumplings would be more like gyoza but they were these really doughy buns with huge chunks of chives. That wasn't exactly what I wanted but still enjoyed (although they were so doughy that they were a bit too heavy). I couldn't finish everything so I had leftovers, and the leftovers were great the next day. It wasn't spectacular but hit the spot for what I needed. read more

This restaurant is literally a hidden gem. I randomly stumbled across it while I was out on a walk. It's a little hole in the wall. We got the vegetable egg rolls, the pad Thai and the basil fried rice. They were sooo good. They also had a special of fried curry pockets at that time and they reminded me a lot of samosas. The food was fresh. There was only one server and so, the service was a bit slow but we were ok with it because the food was so good. Definitely my favorite place to order Thai from. Looking at the reviews, this place is hit or miss. Our dining experience can be summed up in the same way. Some hits and some misses. We dined in at 6:30 PM on a Wednesday. I went with my brother-in-law, who loves chicken Pad Thai, and it's the only Thai food he eats. He ordered his thing, and I ordered Tom Yum soup with shrimp and "spicy" Drunken Noodle with beef. The server was initially punctual, though she had trouble answering our questions, and even more trouble communicating back to us. The soup came out right away, and it was as good as any Tom Yum I've ever ordered or made. There were five plump, beautifully cooked shrimp, and lots of nice fresh mushrooms and cilantro. I've eaten Tom Yum soup a thousand times, and I don't remember a better one. Reading through all the terrible reviews of it, I feel like I got extra lucky that night. About five minutes after the soup came, my brother-in-law's Pad Thai was delivered. It was a massive portion. It wasn't fancy, with only bean sprouts, some chunks of egg, chopped peanuts, a little shredded carrot, and a wedge of lime. I don't usually eat basic Pad Thai, but he had a mountain left over (late-stage cancer has robbed him of his once prolific appetite) and no way to take it with us to Second City, so I tried it. There was a lot of sauce, which doesn't happen that often, and it was really well-balanced with the sweetness of palm sugar, the tang of tamarind and lime, and the saltiness of the fish sauce. It seemed to be a never ending source of perfectly cooked chicken as well. He said it was as good as any he'd ever eaten, and I would agree. The server flew by us about three times to look at how we were progressing, since they were starting to get very busy, and clearly wanted to flip our table. She didn't stop at all and ask how we were, and never said anything about the beef Drunken Noodle I was still waiting for. He was finished with his Pad Thai, so I waved her down and asked about the other food. She said it would be out in a minute. It finally came 25 minutes after the Pad Thai, and it was a very small portion compared to the Pad Thai. It was clearly forgotten, and thrown together quickly. There were maybe 10 noodles on the plate, and the rest was mostly bell pepper and a few onions. There were only a few bites of beef in it, and that turned out to be kind of a blessing. To say the beef was tough is an understatement. It was like chewing a catcher's mitt, and it tasted like raw cornstarch instead of beef. The Drunken Noodle was supposed to be spicy, and I even asked for it extra hot (despite the fact that I've regretted that request at other authentic Thai restaurants), yet it had no heat whatsoever. The dish itself was very dry, and tasted like nothing but Thai basil. I had a few bites, before I went back to work on the boring, but far superior, Pad Thai. The server returned one minute after delivering the last dish, dropped the check on the table, and asked if we wanted boxes for the leftovers. We sat for a few more minutes while I ate, and she pretty much stared at us the whole time until we paid and left. Service: Inattentive and borderline rude. 1/5 Ambiance: Pretty loud, crowded, and overall unspecial. 2/5 Chicken Pad Thai: 4/5 Tom Yum w/shrimp: 5/5 "Spicy" Drunken Noodle w/beef: An overly generous 1/5 If I went back, I'd get the soup again, and maybe even the Pad Thai. It will be a cold day in hell before I would order or recommend anything with beef in it. read more

We've gotten the Chicken Pad Thai and side of Crab Rangoons delivered to our home twice now and loved them! We used to go to Star of Siam, but their food quality has worsened lately, so I'm grateful we found this spot. I've not eaten in the restaurant yet, so can't speak to that, but the food being delivered experience is great. our go to thai food for takeout! drunken noodles HIT from here and everything is always so fresh and prepared fast. we always get the dumplings, chicken fried rice and Tom kha Soup. sometimes will add on pad thai but prefer to do drunken noodles over their pad thai. my only complaint is they charge like $5 for extra peanut sauce and the container is pretty small. When I was craving some Thai food, I wanted to give Silver Spoon a try. I'm looking for a local Thai place to be my go-to and I was hoping it might be Silver Spoon. I ordered delivery and it was a quick and easy process. I ordered their chicken pad see eiw with chicken and a Thai iced tea. I was a little disappointed from the get go that they didn't have a veggie/tofu option for the noodles - I'm not vegetarian but I like to eat more veggies when possible so while it wasn't a big deal that they didn't have any vegetarian option for that dish it seemed like a missed opportunity on their end. The food was quite good and it fulfilled my craving but it just felt like something was missing for me but I can't put my finger on it. The iced tea was very flavorful but it was so sweet! Personally, too sweet but I think others might like it. Overall I didn't have a bad time, but I didn't have a fantastic time either. I think my search for a fave local Thai place will continue, but I'll keep Silver Spoon in my back pocket. read more

The atmosphere was very cozy, the service was excellent. The servers were very friendly. For $30 plus tip I felt the servings were rather small, most of the meat was tuff in the main dish. When u arrive u will find out it's downstairs off the street. But once u enter we were greeted n seated right away. Server was so friendly n very attentive! Ordered a sampler platter soups n the mild curry chicken n let me just say everything was so good! The soup hit the spot on this cold day. But the curry chicken was the best!! OmG! I've had curry before (Japanese, Indian) but this was the most delicious curry I've tasted. IMO. And very reasonably priced too! I've been looking for a good Thai place around downtown Chicago since I moved here last year (love my Pad Thai)! I'll have to be honest though, the Pad Thai here was good but still didn't quite live up to what I'm looking for. However, the other things we ordered were delicious! The fried shrimp spring rolls were so good- I always love anything fried and crispy. The fried rice we ordered was tasty as well. But the star of the show had to be the mango sticky rice. The rice was cooked perfectly (not too hard like at some place I've been to). And the mango was perfectly ripe! Like I was so impressed by the quality of their mangoes- honestly tempted to ask them where they get them because they were just that good.
