I loved this place's food. Probably my third favorite Thai I've had. The best I've tried in Chicago. I got the spicy drunken noodles. There was a perfect amount of vegetables and noodles. They had a great flavor. I also got the lime thai tea which was super weird, but also great. I just had never had anything like it before. It tasted pretty syrupy, but I enjoyed it. I wish I had better things to say about Silver Spoon, but the only thing that was a real standout from our meal was the thai tea. It was the only part of our order I would order again. We got the chicken satay skewers, which were fine, if a bit overcooked, and then an order of the Spicy Thai Noodles... We asked our waitress if they were actually spicy, and we were told that they're "very spicy" but what we were served was one of the blandest plates of noodles I've ever been handed at a South Asian restaurant. We added copious amounts of chili sauce to help, but even that couldn't save them. This is a very small unassuming restaurant that is literally underground. Food was 3.5/5 but pricing and portions were very generous so rounding up to 4/5 stars for overall experience. I've only ever gotten deliveries from Silver Spoon, but the food always arrives hot, tasty, and plentiful! Great for a quick fix of Thai food. When friends come over, this is often where we'll get food delivered from and we enjoy it. For my usual order of pad see ew with chicken, they're consistently great and I have no complaints. I wish there were more Thai restaurants in the area--and there are places better though farther--but Silver Spoon remains my go-to in this neighborhood. read more

This is one of the places I recommend when people come visit me. Taste: 4.5/5 Their green curry is probably my favorite thing on their menu. Penang curry was pretty good too. Pad thai and pad see eiw are good but comparable to other nearby thai places (baisi, star of siam). There are definitely some things they do better than others, and for example papaya salad was a little bit overflavored/salty in my opinion. Pricing: 4.5/5 Very reasonable pricing. Ambience: 3.8/5. It's a basement hole in the wall place but the food and value beats that. Pretty good tasting food for the price, especially on mag mile! I tried the green curry and the coconut milk is a large part of it but it's savory and tasty! All for about $12. Tried several items from their dinner menu. Their flavors are all on point. Portions for eat in were generous and much more than those for take out (I had some take out as well). All in all, a very good restaurant for this area. If I have one complaint, it is that their meats (chicken and beef) were too tough. I went back today and feel compelled to leave a review because it was both better and worse. I know. So confusing. I understand why Thai restaurants try to westernize their food, but I truly feel that nowadays there is no need to! Especially in a city like Chicago where most people are used to diverse cuisine and many have access to other authentic restaurants. I can go on for days and review each dish, but let me give you a summary. They have added some apps such as the Sai Oua, Sai Krog, and Tod Mun that I love and are authentic tasting here. The soups are pretty good, better than I remember. The fried rice dishes are just terrible. And the noodle dishes could be better. To be honest, I haven't had their entrees so can't speak to that. I will come back and try more dishes just for Yelp. I hope they continue to make improvements because they have potential. This is a pretty solid Thai restaurant. I enjoy the food and the quality is consistent visit after visit. The restaurant itself is underground, but don't let that deter you from following the sign and going down the stairs. The waitstaff is friendly enough. Sometimes I find I have to flag them down to get a refill of water or even the check but it's nothing too bad. Although I've never done it, I've seen others make use of the BYOB policy. Good Thai place right next door to the Thai Consulate. Came here for lunch at the weekend and also took food home for the evening. What was good - The waiter was super nice, the Isaan Sausage was really good, sour and super spicy and came with ginger, peanuts and red onion. Northern sausage was also good, spicy and dry. Larb Gai which is minced chicken salad was pretty good. What was not so good - Pad Thai was not good at all, way too sweet not much chicken and no lime to squeeze on. I've had better Thai food. My boyfriend and I have tried five different dishes from here two separate times, and it's just pretty disappointing. The second time we went, we had the shrimp in a blanket as an appetizer. It was okay, just basically shrimp wrapped in a deep-fried spring roll (3/5). I ordered the Pad Bamee...ya'll, this was just salty as hell. like seriously I thought my tastebuds would shrivel up. I could barely finish it and chugged a ton of water to try and make up for all the sodium I was ingesting. I'd give it a 2/5. My boyfriend got the Cashew Chicken, which was pretty standard but also kind of too saucy...I'd give it a 3/5. The last time we went, I got the pad see eiw and he got the pad thai. I don't know why they do this, but both dishes were just dripping with sauce. just oversaturated with oyster sauce, soy sauce, and sauce sauce sauce. these noodle dishes shouldn't be drowning in sauce- the sauce should complement them. it was kind of hard finishing these dishes (would give pad thai 2.5/5, pad see eiw 2.5/5) The only reason I would go back is because the prices are alright and there really aren't that many options for Thai food around here, also the staff is friendly and welcoming. Silver Spoon is hidden but far from being a gem. Tuesday night's dinner for six consisted of crab rangoon, pad see eiw (beef), garlic chicken noodle, curry crispy noodle (chicken), spice basil leaves (beef), basil leaf fried rice (chicken), Panang chicken curry, and sticky rice with mango. The crab rangoon came in six pieces. Perfect for sharing! Unlike the usual, it was wrapped in a wonton form instead. The entrées were mediocre at best. In general, every entrée was either ordered with chicken or beef. It didn't make much of a difference. All of the meat had the same dry texture. Was it overcooked or due to poor meat quality? Beats me... My favorites were the basil leaf fried rice, garlic chicken noodle, and pad see eiw. Nothing too spectacular about them. Consider it back to the basics, but I adored the jalapeno kick in the fried rice, stir-fried egg noodles, and wide noodles! Service was lightning fast. Our table was filled with food within five minutes of ordering. I especially liked how our sticky rice with mango was served with a lit candle and birthday song. Very accommodating and sweet! On the contrary, the mango wasn't very ripe. It was a tidbit sour but I love my fruits regardless! Street parking isn't too shabby. My friend was lucky and found parking on Rush/Superior. When we arrived they told us the order was cancelled and didn't refund us and when we tried to talk to staff they walked away and were rude and made us wait 1 hour for nothing. This is best thai restaurant in downtown Chicago in my opinion (loop, mag mile, river north, river west). It's a small Cafe located just a few blocks from magnificent mile. The food is stellar for most part. If you eat pork, their specialty is moo dang (BBQ pork) and one can get in noodle soup or over rice with a caramelized red BBQ sauce. This may be best moo dang I have ever had. The esan sausage is also amazing. Large, diverse menu. Surprised this restaurant is less than 4 stars honestly. The service is a bit slow so could see that taking them down a bit but my party had good service overall. Another negative was that they only used fresh thai chilis in fish sauce as an accompaniment but did not use as critical pieces of stir fry (pad ka prao-used jalapeño instead) or with sausage (only ginger, red onion and peanut).
