This is a good Sunday morning diner-- you're starving-- you had a loooong night-- you need the energy that only slightly greasy fat protein and carbs can provide-- and you dont want to have to wait on some long line at a trendy brunchy place. Perfect if you want rude with your food. There is ALWAYS something wrong with the orders - both in house and delivery. Always. And extra points for the surly staff and unintelligible accents. Ordered food for delivery, and the price I was charged was well above the price on the menu, which I had picked up from the restaurant in the last few months. When I called to ask about the discrepancy, I was told I must have either been looking at a menu for another restaurant, or the menu I had must be "from ten years ago". Since I've only recently moved to the neighborhood and called the number on the menu to place the order, neither of these could be the case. I sent the menu I ordered from back with the delivery guy so that Silver Star could see the pricing on the menu, and I asked them to call me back once they had the menu--they did not. I have been coming here since I was a kid, and frankly I like the place very much. It is not fancy and the breakfast is pretty good. I heard some complaints from my friend that the fish is a bit greasy, but when we asked for no oil or butter we got a nicely baked haddock cooked just right. When I asked for a few modifications to my order from what was in the menu, there was no complaints or rolling of the eyes. just a simple "no problem" Desserts are pretty good too and there is always immediate seating. Came here on Friday night and should have known it would disappoint when the restaurant was nearly empty. I paid $20 for "Southern fried chicken" which came out of the freezer, which the waiter confirmed. Everything else was pretty average, but disappointing for the price. read more

Silver Star is what a three-star place should be. It's basic, unspectacular in just about every way and not excessively priced (at least I was expecting it would be pricier). But when one just needs food, isn't trying to make too much of an impression and doesn't want to pay too much it's just the thing. It's good for breakfast fare and the burgers are...as would be expected...OK. Service is pretty fast, even during late mornings on a weekend when it seems to be at its busiest. Decent food, but nothing special. I had a mushroom omelet that was ok (but I've had much better). They let me substitute broccoli for the potatoes. It was just plain broccoli, nothing to write home about. For the area the prices were reasonable. These restaurants are slowly disappearing unfortunately. The Greek diner with good solid food and no atmosphere. Had three meals here recently and all had good cooking, good quality food, and waiters with lots of stories. I'll miss it when it gets replaced by another Chipotle. read more

This morning, a very quiet Sunday morning, I arrived at 10AM, the first of a party of three. Even though I counted 14 empty tables, the "maitre d'" made me wait for my entire party to arrive. Perhaps I was too harsh in my review of several years ago; perhaps they've improved. I had lunch there last Saturday. Large fresh-squeezed OJ & rare bacon cheddarburger were very good. Tasted my 10-year-old daughter's challah French toast at home, cause she was too full to finish it, and it, too, was very good. Didn't even have to add butter (don't like syrup). I wish I could get a couple of investors and buy this joint. The staff needs to be professionally trained, overhaul the ambiance with a much needed renovation and keep prices steady while these expensive measures take place. Excellent food, but pricey for a diner. It is often crowded eating in the restaurant on the weekends at brunch time, but their delivery is fast and reliable. They make excellent omelettes (not too greasy) but their specialty for breakfast is their pancakes. Excellent pancake batter and the variety of mixings extend from the normal (bananas, berrys) to the sublime (chocolate chips, oreos). For non-lunch food, they have huge salads and make wonderful matzoh ball soup, but as mentioned above, they are relatively pricey for a diner. read more
