The staff needs to be professionally trained, overhaul the ambiance with a much needed renovation and keep prices steady while these expensive measures take place. Visiting from Tampa and a friend took me there. I got a Greek omelette and a side of potatoes, decent. Potatoes looked tasty with peppers and spices but not much flavor there. Tomatoes and feta graced the omelette and portion was filling. She got a tuna melt on 7-grain toast, muenster cheese and well done bacon. Absolutely amazing! I'm not even a huge fan of tuna but going back again myself before catching the plane back home. Service was very good, servers were attentive and didn't wait long for anything. Excellent food, but pricey for a diner. It is often crowded eating in the restaurant on the weekends at brunch time, but their delivery is fast and reliable. They make excellent omelettes (not too greasy) but their specialty for breakfast is their pancakes. Excellent pancake batter and the variety of mixings extend from the normal (bananas, berrys) to the sublime (chocolate chips, oreos). For non-lunch food, they have huge salads and make wonderful matzoh ball soup, but as mentioned above, they are relatively pricey for a diner. read more

People don't understand how to eat at diners and it makes me sick. The trick is you pick a diner and you go there every week for 35 years. I literally go to this diner every Sunday. I get the most amazing service ever. They also bring out the food right away because I created a relationship with them and we are now good friends. I like their food for breakfast but I don't really like their food for diner. I like their food for lunch ok but not amazing. Was in there a few days ago 2 different times. Serve was very good. But the morning & afternoon managers are very nasty. They were talking bad about their employees on 2 different occasions right in front of the customers. That threw me right out. How can anyone talk about their employees right in front of customers. I have lived down the block from this establishment in excess of 30 years. The original owner Gus was a doll and perfect. Since he is gone, I would recommend that you not frequent or go to this place unless you have megabucks. Only the wealthy can afford it. I stopped by this evening to purchase a single bagel... nothing on it. etc. They charged me $2.70 When I questioned it, they pointed me to the breakfast menu which reflected a bagel with butter for $2.50 I had nothing on it.. yet was charged $2.70 HIGHWAY ROBBERY. I could certainly afford it but the bagel place next door was closing and they sell bagels for 99 Pretty steep profit....and they refused to modify it. event hough they know me my whole life. read more

Couldn't complain about this diner. It is one of the BEST places to eat. The servers care about your opinion and will do anything for you! Went here for brunch over the weekend and let's just say, I'm not a fan. I ordered an eggwhite omelet and matzah ball soup. The soup tasted like campbell's out of the can with a raw matzah ball thrown in and was super expensive. I ordered an egg white omelet and it was super greasy and burnt. Stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon for a quick lunch. Service was not friendly. Smell in the bar area was terrible. I had a chicken Caesar wrap that was terrible. The matzah ball soup was ok. My friends' meals were also just ok. When we went to pay, we told the woman at the register how rude our waitress was and she just shrugged her shoulders. The food here was good but the service was really poor. I order the breakfast special and the waitress said 'that comes with coffee and orange juice - and walked off. She did not give me a chance to say that I wanted tea. She never gave me courtesy of giving options even when I did receive the tea. This was the pattern for ME during my visit. The prices in this diner have skyrocketed ... An order of a chicken finger appetizer (that was not fresh and double fried) (And .. just chicken fingers .. no fries or additions) plus a small chicken and rice soup cost $19.05! Chicken fingers used to cost $8.95 in this diner and a small soup used to cost almost $1.50 less. I will never order from here again. This is an abuse. read more

Every time I am in New York I try to make a point of going to the Silver Star. This is such a great old school diner. Their food is really very good. Of special note are their french fries and their cheesecake--which they make in-house--is to die for. I hope this place lives on forever. read more

Eat in or have it delivered- the place is always hopping so you know what you get is fresh. I thoroughly enjoy the extensive menu - I once brought 10 colleagues after they could not decide where to go for dinner. From lobster to hamburgers everyone was satisfied with the choices. I like their breakfast. Poached eggs on whole wheat are always cooked well. They have excellent French toast. They have a very good tuna sandwich for lunch as well. A little expensive for a diner. Also the omelet I order is always overcooked and too brown. You need to order it soft just make sure not runny. read more

I live so close to this diner, I wanted it to be good so badly! Unfortunately, it just isn't. The food is decent, at best. It's also very overpriced. I only ever went here out of convenience and the staff used to be nice. I walked in with a calm, quiet 6 pound dog to place an order for take out. They kicked me out and were incredibly rude to me. They didn't even ask if my dog was a service dog. I have had my dog in this diner before and no one said a word. I will never go back to this sub par establishment. This used to be one of our go to diners in the UES but I feel that it's gone downhill. Like many diners the menu is huge with pretty much everything on it. The food is pretty good and the service is as well, but nothing seems to be that special. A few years back it was open 24hrs as well so it was a good choice for late night when you needed some eats. Also saw the manager (big guy blue shirt working on 2/4/16 9PM) blow his nose into the sink and rinse his hands with water and no soap before going back behind the counter. Ok, I work nearby and I gave this place a try more than enough times. This time I had enough! Usually their food tastes weird, like its fake or something. But people in my workplace order from them for some reason (I have no clue why)... Anyways, I ordered cheese blintzes today because I had little time... It was $12.25 with tax, I got back to work and find lettuce and cucumber slices and carrot slices with 3 half sized blintzes. I was surprised, how the #%#@ did they figure that lettice, cucumber and carrot go together with cheese blintzes with sour cream? Are they serious???? The salad looked like it was a couple weeks old, I wouldn't dare touch it. I ate the blintzes and am still hungry! What the %@$%!!!! After years of patronage, recently learned the hard way that this diner is focused on profits rather than family. The wait staff is great, but the manager is rude and should not be in charge of an establishment where children frequent as their safety and experience is clearly not the priority. Food is overpriced, but menu is expansive. Would love a reason to return, but senior management needs to re-think the organizational chart here or I'm quite certain additional business will be lost. a ok greek diner on 2nd ave between 65th and 64th st, it's your typical diner that has an extensive menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner . the place is open 24/7 so you can grab a bite if you are in the area in the morning , afternoon , night or whatever time you stumble in. the place is spacious and seems updated decor wise with plenty of tables and padded booths with tile floors and plenty of bright lights above to give place a lively feel. the service is ok and food comes out to tables quickly . it's a greek american diner with the usual eats including some greek options , my only minor issue is the prices are kinda high and portions are about average. i am here for breakfast and decided to order french toast with turkey sausage with home fries and it was not bad at all, i had better and i had worst so it's decent in my book. i have no problem coming back when i am in the area maybe for lunch or dinner cause i do enjoy a chicken gyro platter when it's on the menu .overall a nice decor diner that is kept clean with plenty of choices . read more
