I like this place. Simple Eats is exactly as the name on the front reads but I think it should read, Simple Good Eats. The food here is good, it's fresh, the service is fantastic, and visually, this joint is just a happy place. You get two choices of seating here....outside or in. Due to Covid, we chose outside. Be mindful, it's nothing to do with the restaurant but with the outside, you get the flies, and this time there was a lot of them. Our server was awesome. Super polite, and very attentive. We ordered the cheese board, and for the price, we got more cheese then I could even handle. I would order that board again when I take friends/family there. It's a good amount to munch on. I also ordered the Crab Benedict, or what they call, the Crab Benny. I thought it was good. A sizeable portion at a great price. Overall, I would eat here again. It's a colorful, just happy place. I saw this place on yelp a few weeks ago and came here on a whim after morning Mass. Also, the Navy Exchange was still closed (it was 0830), and remember this place was close to base. The staff was so nice from the get-go. Warm smiles on this early Sunday morning. I started with a coffee w/ milk which was served in a neat cup. Second, I tried their cinnamon toast shot! It was so good that I sipped it for the rest of the meal! The vegan butternut squash was a great appetizer. I thought I'd miss the heavy cream, but cheers to the chef for still getting a creamy and savory flavor! The toast on the side had a very subtle sweet flavor; a nice compliment to the soup. For the entree, I ordered their ham, swiss chard omelette with toast and potatoes. It's such an American breakfast. The sourdough bread toast was so good! The swiss chard gave a nice texture and flavor to the familiar ham omelette. Lastly, I love the decor and ambience. Bob Marley's "Don't worry 'bout a thing" in the background was so appropriate. Hubby and I wanted something healthy, farm to table'ish for our date night. Naturally, I searched for a restaurant in the area and it led us to Simple Eats. Everything looked great, however, the reviews I saw were not. We tossed a couple of other restaurants around but ultimately, we decided on Simple Eats. I am sooo happy we did. Evidently, a reservation is needed for a weekend, but somehow we were able to grab a table for two with no wait. The icing on top was that they had a very talented guitar player/singer perform throughout the night. I feel bad his name has escaped my memory but he was terrific. He played several known songs from James Taylor and other well-known musicians. Our server was super attentive and courteous. We started with their warm goat cheese with berries and honey. This was simply glorious. Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Hubby decided on the farmhouse burger. This was beautifully presented on a wooden cutting board in keeping with its rustic vibe. I decided on the crabby patty. Don't let the name fool you, it's presentation was a work of art, with the aioli drizzled atop the crabcake with the tomato and lettuce. GREAT SERVICE. Wonderful entertainment. FANTASTIC FOOD. Been to this establishment twice in 1 week, if that's not saying how much I enjoyed it I guess I can write an appreciation post. The first visit I had a cabby Bennie, the crab was full of flavor, and fresh. I really enjoyed the avocado and the huge slice of tomato! The dish was plated well and the beermosa was delicious Second visit was also amazing. I order the meatloaf with a side of squash and zucchini. Baby, when I tell you that meat loaf was bomb, I mean that meat loaf was seasoned perfectly. My veggies were cooked just right and had a nice crunch. Second time here - went for a Sunday morning breakfast. I got the fresh Blackened Tuna Tostada cooked to Chef's recommendation. It was excellent. The others at the table had their go to breakfast burrito and both were stuffed! Another time at Simple Eats for dinner discovered the Bloody Mary flight. Wow. Was excellent (but I DO NOT recommend the tequila bloody mary). Highly recommend Simple Eats for GREAT local food. The 4 instead of 5 was due to the service both times left a bit to be desired (wait staff didn't visit the table very often for refilling drinks and checking in on us.) My first time trying Simple Eats and it did not disappoint!! I started with the clear broth Hatteras Clam Chowder which was loaded with clams. I then had the reuben and I must say that the chef slices the meat ever so thin, which really was a nice touch. I opted for the mixed greens side which was lightly seasoned with a balsamic vinegar dressing. It's not ridiculously huge, so there's a bit of a wait during brunch hours. The menu wasn't crazy spectacular, but the food was good. I was surprised there wasn't a turkey bacon option. I ordered a simple meal, eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes. The potatoes was the best thing on the plate. They were seasoned to perfection. I also ordered a mimosa flight, and let the bar decide which ones to pour. It was very exciting, except the server never said which was which. So that left me to guess and assume what I had in front of me. It is moderately priced, but the wait staff isn't very attentive or lively. read more

A nice spot off of Shore Drive with plenty of parking out back. The decor inside is very crafty and quaint, very befitting of the restaurant. I stopped I in for lunch with several friends and was seated almost immediately. The menu has a broad range and I look forward to trying more of it. I ordered The Squealer off of their feature menu. The place is rustic but quaint, if you love the beach decorations this place comes loaded with it. It's is a delight to the eyes coz I love everything about the beach. But when you go inside and deeper to their back or inner part of the restaurant, the more you will see simple elegance put together. From the gorgeous chandeliers to the photos on the wall. Our waitress is so nice and quick to serve too. My cheese charcuterie is fabulous and taste so good. My Crab Cake Eggs Benedict is just fabulous. I could taste the crab, the egg, the arugula gracing on top put the taste together. I didn't even have to eat the bread which is my preference. The potatoes that came with it also was perfectly cooked. Not pale not burnt. Just perfect. Everything was just right. My young nephews that came with us sure enjoyed the food. They had selections for the kids too which is a good size already for a young one. Sitting arrangement was perfect. Social distancing is still on point. The pace can accommodate a large group and that's what I'm checking into. All in all, It is so nice to be relaxed while eating and enjoy food. The waitress was very calm with the kids. All the food that the kids ordered was given a thumbs up. They love it. It rained that day and the parking lot was a bit muddy as expected but not flooded. I never give bad reviews. But I had the worst experience today at Simple Eats. 40 minute wait to be seated. And another 20 minute wait for a waitress after being seated. Then another 30 minute wait for the very mediocre sandwiches. After eating, we were basically there for 2 hours...most of it waiting. No communication at all from the hostess or waitress about the extreme delays. No apologies or explanation. So when I asked her why everything took soooooo long, she said they were just slammed. Well when we got there, there were three customers ahead of us. They weren't slammed. I have a lot of compassion. But when the hostess and the wait staff have an attitude of indifference and really don't care the experience they are giving their customers.... I'm not coming back. I ordered the sweet potato burger in a cronut roll with a side of zucchini and squash. I'm not sure why it's called 'the sweet potato burger' since I didn't taste any sweet potato. Nonetheless, it was still a juicy and very tasty burger. The patty was made with grass fed beef which explained why the quality of the meat was better than most burgers. It wasn't greasy at all and was very flavorful. The zucchini and squash was cooked simple, nothing too special, but still very tasty. My boyfriend got the crabby patty and he loved it! The patty that was made with huge chunks of crab meat was thick and really tasty. I can't say much more since I didn't order but from what I was able to deduce, it was a good sandwich. Overall, simple eats is the perfect place to enjoy fresh and sustainable food. They've done a great job with their food but they need a little bit more work when it comes to their cocktails because he Mexican iced coffee I ordered was drowning in tequila that I could barely taste any coffee. I would definitely come back even with all the flies outside. We sat outdoors since we had our loyal pooch with us. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly from both staff and other patrons. We ordered a flight of mimosas to try and we loved all the flavors, and neither my husband nor I are mimosa fans. The food was layered with flavor and bountiful dishes. Dishes were made with fresh products. Everything was seasoned properly. I wish we could have had the space in us to try more dishes. For a first visit it was really a strong one. I have been anticipating trying out Simple Eats when I found out who the owner was. Sandy the long time manager of Taste on Shore was venturing out on her own and I was thrilled. I was also slightly skeptical about a new Shore drive restaurant's viability. I waited about a month and tonight seemed like a great time to try them out for the first time. Just recently they expanded into dinner on weekends. My wife and I arrived just before 6 PM and the rear lot was pretty much full. No issues with debris in the lot, or sidewalk in front of the business. There was a RV in the parking lot selling fruit and vegetables, but unsure if this has anything to do with Simple Eats. Parking could be an issue in the future when they are busier. The location I thought walking in was good, but the building had been nighttime bar/live music joint that never made it. I had never been inside, so I can say what the transformation was like. The outside presented nicely with fresh beige paint. The building seems like a fit for Shore Drive and I will leave it for you to make your own opinion. There is a patio in the rear with a half dozen picnic type tables. A walk in the interior and it was without a doubt shocking. It was completely full of wonderful atmosphere and I immediately felt comfortable. A long counter is to your left, tables with eclectic seating. A long island is in the center and there are both lower tables and raised huge round tables that are made of recycled steel wire spools. A lot of the materials used are recycled woods and glass window frames etc. It makes for an extremely cozy experience and I appreciate the thought put into the decor. What I could not get excited about was the cookie cutter grey 12 x 12 tile floors. They work, but do not mesh with the folksy decor, but just my opinion. I was happy to be greeted by Sandy and catch up a bit. It's been a whirl wind few months opening the business. What Sandy and her husband have going for them is the experience necessary to make this work. I am very confident that they will succeed, no question about it. This does not mean that there will not be a learning curve with their first restaurant. Our waitress took our drink order and I went over options for beer. They do have local craft from Smartmouth. However no Porters, or Stouts which I was hoping for. I surprised my wife and ordered a banana shake...why not. We went ahead and put in our entree orders to get things going since we expected more of a crowd to come in. Currently there were around four tables occupied. This made me wonder why all the spaces in parking lot were full. We both elected on the dinner specials of Blackened Salmon and Flat Iron steak. The banana shake took a lot longer that I expected, probably 15 minutes. It was good, but not completely mixed with some larger pieces of ice that would not come through the straw. However, yum flavors. The entrees came out at around the 35 min point which again thought it was longer than expected, but the waitress did warn us of a delay on the fish as they were just beginning to prepare. We both thought the dishes were strong and we really enjoyed and had no problem finishing them off. Our waitress checked in on us, as well as both owners at different times. Our plates were cleared and check delivered in a timely manner. Prices for portion size and quality fair. There is a whole lot going on at Simple Eats that is fantastic for foodies and those that want more local farm to tables choices. Sandy and Eddie are attempting to pull off the difficult task of keeping it local, fresh and provide innovative menu choices. I think they are on the right track, but Fall and Winter offer challenges for this concept. One example of a smart move of keeping choices local is the partnership with Three Ships Coffee. This is an awesome success story in its self and offers delicious coffee. The passion of the duo was incredible to witness and I could not be more happy for them to begin their dream of restaurant ownership. If I'm correct Simple Eats will be a big hit. Nothing about it is bad! The poached egg is runny and works so well with this dish. Accompanied by fried potatoes that have the most amazing spices. I cannot pick them out and we contemplated asking for the recipe! The Frenchie ia another great choice. It starts with a french baguette slightly toasted with a sweet butter melted thru. Next comes the ham, a very generous portion! Sweet gerkins and a fried egg top this off. Such a great combo! This is a typical French sandwich with the pickels. I was originally going somewhere else but they didn't have any parking. I saw this place close by so I stopped in. The place looked small from the outside but was a lot bigger on the inside. The staff was friendly. I say myself in the corner by the window. It was not super busy but it was also a weekday. I ordered the crabby benedict and a side order of pancakes. I only wanted one but they only came as two. When the pancakes arrived, they looked bigger than my head. I ate the benedict first. Normally, traditional benedicts come with an English muffin. This was made with a cronut. Great choice. I never had a really tasty or good English muffin so the cronut was a perfect substitute. It came topped with avocado and some crab. The Hollandaise sauce was ok but the rest of the ingredients made up for it. I only ate quarter of a pancake since it was so big. It had a nice crisp to it with just the right amount of fluff. Service was good. Always asked me if I needed anything. However, I felt like other customers had more warming welcomes/conversations than I did. Maybe I'm not a tourist or a resident regular?! Met with a small group for breakfast. Menu had some nice choices, also some daily specials, service was okay and prices reasonable. I had the 'Buttermilk Pancakes / Bananas or Seasonal Fruit Bacon or Edward's Sausage Link 11 '. The fruit shouldn't even have been mentioned, it was no more than a garnish!!! The pancakes where HUGE and I had 2 slices of crispy bacon with them, BUT there were ONLY 2 small (less than an inch) strawberry slices and 3 blueberries on top.!! Simple Eats use to be my favorite brunch place but the wait time and lack of parking has definitely changed my views of this place. We were told that it would be an 50 minute wait for a table for two, which we didn't mind. We were at the restaurant at 11am and didn't receive our food until 1:30pm. We were starving and waited two hours to get seated. We've been here many times before with larger parties than the two of us and have never had an issue with being seated sooner. They should've been honest about the wait time because we would've went somewhere else. It honestly ruined my brunch experience here. The parking is terrible because the lot is small and always full. As busy as they are, a parking expansion should be considered. You literally have to stalk people leaving to get a spot and there's a constantly influx of cars coming in that small lot. Their food is pretty amazing besides the service. They're a farm to table type of restaurant so the food, is fresh and you can tell. The eggs are some of the best eggs I have ever eaten. I ordered the Garden Omelette with sausage added and it's usually great. This time they had large slices of onions that were still attached to each other. I wish it was diced in the omelette. Their side of house potatoes are always delicious especially if you add Speedy's honey habanero hot sauce to it (best hot sauce ever). The serving size of the potatoes were a lot less this time than other times I've been here. There were literally 5 cubes of potatoes on the side. I usually order the Crab Benedict and highly recommend it when coming here. It is my favorite dish here and comes with lump crab on top with a delicious aioli. My husband had the Pulled Pork sandwich special and he said it was delicious. He said the sandwich was soggy but it could've been because of how moist the meat was. He was pretty satisfied with his meal. Usually he orders the breakfast burrito and highly recommends it. Our server was way too busy and had too many tables than she could handle. I felt bad for her but it showed in the service we received. We waited a while for her to come back to the table. I'm not sure what has happened to this restaurant but it use to be my favorite and the restaurant I recommended to all of my friends. After this experience, I will not be coming back for awhile. They have pretty good Bloody Mary's and Mimosas. This pregnant lady misses the delicious drinks but I highly recommend the Bloody Mary/Mimosa flights if you're indecisive.
