I was in the area with my mom for a craft fair and we wanted something sweet to walk around with. It's on the side street of the main street the fair was on Honolulu Ave. The cashier was really friendly and she was super sweet, I got a strawberry matcha with boba and almond milk and my mom got the strawberry banana smoothie. There was one girl that ordered ahead of us so I knew it shouldn't take long, but I was wrong. I also ordered a regular size but the guy made it in a large cup so I'll take it for how long we waited (made up for it). Taste: 7/10 the strawberry matcha was good, boba was a little sticky instead of squishy. 10/10 for the smoothie my mom enjoyed it (no complaints)

Whenever I'm in Montrose, I normally come to Simplee Boba. I love their Mango Black Tea and ocassionally their Mango Slush and House Milk Tea. Their place is great, offering claw machines, fun games, tons of seating tables, display of snacks, and a bathroom. Their service is great and they always make my drinks good.

Lavender iced boba?! Obbsseessseddd! I do love how lavendar tastes and smells; don't get me started on my love for boba. But I never thought I'd exist in a world where I could taste a lavendar boba drink. I'm so blessed Simplee Boba is my spot! Located at the heart of Montrose, Simplee Boba is a lovely boba joint. They have various flavors and blends of drinks, with or without boba. I've tried smoothie, slushies, and iced teas. My top 2 is the lavender drink and rose one - with EXTRA boba of course!! Parking is super easy at Montrose. Metered street parking available as well as littl parking lots around Montrose if you want to explore the little area with your delicious boba drink!

A boba shop with good, chewy boba like the chain boba joints!! My friends and I loved our drinks. - very Yummo Signature milk tea has its own taste, not like other boba places-75% perfect sweet. Boba slightly sweetened, wished it was soaked in more syrup. Jasmine Mango Passionfruit tea is also similar to a regular boba shop :) Self service kiosks, easy to order.

Butterfly limeaid nice tart and sweet just like me Their peach guava green tea was over steep and very tart. Their salted caramel milk tea was amazing ! Perfect, at first I thought too sweet but then it was actually just right ! The staff was nice enough to change my green tea cause I just couldn't do it. Sadly the replacement was still bitter, I still think it's the tea. But the boba and the egg pudding is good. It's nice boba is free ! Their side room is like a storage room but at least for a small place it has seating . It's a cute little place. Seems like something that would be around like a middle school where children would like to hang out.

You can't see any employees behind this wall, it just feels impersonal.

I felt like I was ordering from a vending machine here. I couldn't see any employees when I walked in and I ordered from a machine. The service feels impersonal and faceless. I ordered a strawberry house milk tea and I asked for light ice but they gave me no ice which quickly got warm in my hand on an 82 degree day. I'm so disappointed in the taste, it tasted too artificial. AND it was $6 for a regular size which was pretty small. They also have a bit too many options that the menu is overwhelming. I would rather go to my regular boba place a little further away in La Canada which has a more cool and welcoming vibe and simpler menu.

We luckily found street parking up front, otherwise they have a small street nearby that you can probably park in as well. Only two people were ahead of us when we walked in but shortly after, the place filled up with the line almost out the door! There was only one worker but she made it work and she was fast! Cute decor and vibes inside. I wanted to try the pistachio bliss that everyone seemed to rave about but since their seasonal menu was out, I went for the toffee nut iced latte. The drinks are a bit on the pricier side, cute cups though! Something about the drink I got was a little off putting. Idk if it was whatever spice they used but I was not crazy about it. I definitely want to come back and try the pistachio at some point though! Getting out of my parking spot was rough. Busy street but also some annoying guy parked in the red zone behind me, basically bumper to bumper and then another girl in front had A LOT of room in front of her and just didn't give me enough room. I luckily made it out but very annoying! Anyway, still looking forward to coming back to try their pistachio bliss! IG: @ammysalamii

So many people define themselves as experts. Sadly, many of those same people will walk in and say things like, "Gosh, I'm tired, could you make me a double espresso?", clearly assuming that stronger taste automatically means more caffeine. My wife and I simply like a good coffee in the morning. Which leads to the obvious question: what do we define as "good coffee"? For us, it helps us get into the day, tastes pleasant, and does not leave a bitter note. We are absolutely not coffee experts and can discuss coffee, at best, at what we Germans would call "Thekenniveau" -- bar-counter level. I do understand, however, that it may make a difference whether beans were roasted weeks or even months ago somewhere remote, then shipped and stored, or whether they were roasted locally and recently. So we asked ChatGPT, and one of the recommendations was REGENT Coffee in our neighborhood. We went. Our directive was very clear: we explained that we knew little to nothing about coffee, which was precisely why we had come in and were looking for advice. The lady helping us started with: "Well, it all comes down to the settings of your coffee machine when you pour your espresso." I responded that we are not really espresso drinkers -- we drink Americano. She gave us "the look" and explained that an Americano is espresso with more water. The information: fair enough. The way it was communicated: not ideal if your goal is to win me as a customer. From there, the conversation did not really lead anywhere. We were asked questions such as whether we preferred nutty or fruity coffee. That may be a perfectly reasonable question for someone who already knows what those terms mean in practical taste terms. But we had just told her that we did not. That was the entire reason we were there. We were not looking to prove our coffee knowledge. We were looking for someone who had the expertise to guide us. In the end, we bought an Americano. It was served so hot that my wife burned her mouth in the car, and it took almost the entire 45-minute drive to Santa Monica before it had reached what we considered a comfortable drinking temperature. It cost $5. And we did not even particularly like it. Would I go again? No. Would I recommend REGENT based on this experience? No. What makes this particularly disappointing is that this was a tremendous lost opportunity to turn us into long-term customers. We like expert advice. We drive to Farmers Markets to buy fresh produce knowing full well that we may pay 200% more for something that is perhaps only 15% better. But we can taste the difference, and that makes it worthwhile to us. Coffee could have been exactly the same. If I specialized in coffee, I would make it incredibly easy for people like us to enter that world. I would offer tastings. I would explain, in simple language, what "nutty", "fruity", "chocolatey", "bright", "smooth" or "low acidity" actually mean in the cup. I might offer a short class on how to set up a home coffee machine properly. Maybe even machine-specific sessions. Maybe in the shop. Maybe at the customer's home. Because there are customers walking through the door saying, quite literally: "We know very little. We want advice. We are willing to spend money." And even better from a business perspective: Not just money once. Continuous money. Imagine if the conversation had instead started with: "I totally understand where you are coming from. Coffee can become unnecessarily complicated very quickly. Since you mostly drink Americano and want something smooth rather than bitter, let me give you two small tastes so you can understand the difference. Then I'll recommend one bean to start with." We would almost certainly have bought a bag. Possibly two. And if we had liked them, we might have bought beans there for years. Instead, they sold us one tiny cup for $5 over the counter, while the payment screen suggested an 18-25% tip. And two potentially very loyal customers walked out frustrated. That, to me, is the real business lesson here. It is not about whether REGENT makes good or bad coffee. Taste is subjective. It is about recognizing the customer who is standing right in front of you. Especially when that customer is effectively saying: "Please teach me how to spend more money with you." And then making sure you do not send them home without doing exactly that. Small caffeine footnote: espresso is more concentrated in caffeine per ounce, but a normal serving of drip coffee usually contains more total caffeine than a single espresso because the serving is much larger. Stronger taste does not automatically mean more caffeine.
