Simply Solar installed my solar panels and SolarEdge battery in May of 2023. The installation went smoothly. In September of 2023, the battery was not being charged for two months. While my solar system was shut down, Simply Solar insisted that they could not do anything because SolarEdge had to investigate first. When Simply Solar finally got the replacement battery battery from SolarEdge, it was replaced quickly and I have had no issues since. Overall, I am happy with Simply Solar except for this incident of the defective battery. read more

The only thing I would say to someone considering using your services is, if you need to update your electric panel, be sure to make known that you want a panel that will support a Level 2 charger. We did not realize that the panel installed, a "like for like" panel, doesn't support Level 2 charging, and we now are 'trickle charging' until we hire an electrician to install a new, upgraded electric panel. Here is the update at the end of all installation. 1) We wanted Simply Solar to fix the mistake they made in the installation of the smart switch and Gateway. It was installed at the wrong location (not as in the design) and prevented from upgrading the main panel. Any equipment from upgrade must be at least 3 feet away from the riser of gas line. I have attached pictures before and after the relocation. Even though there was an error, Simply Solar took ownership, kept their promise and did a great job. The 2 folks who did the work were fantastic. 2) I am increasing my final rating since Simply Solar kept their promise putting customer experience at the forefront. With this fix, we now have peace-of-mind with respect to the long term service warranty. We went with Simply Solar partly because they were the only one among the contractors we contacted who said that they could install on metal roof. Another reason was to support small business (a reason we did not even contact Sunrun). If you go with Simply Solar, here is the most important recommendation: - Make sure to check progress few times through the installation period to catch any obvious mistakes. This includes checking whether solar panels are clean, design was followed, app works (after all equipments are installed and permits are approved). This avoids any large fix ups if any problem arises. Some teams may be junior. They need to improve their training to improve quality and reduce churn. The team also doesn't let you know before they leave for the day. Otherwise, we are happy with their promise. read more

The team at Simply Solar were fantastic to work with. I first started working with a different solar provider, SunPower. The SunPower team went MIA and completely ghosted me after 3 months. With no responses or help from their support team whatsoever. Simply Solar installers violated approved permit drawing for solar panel installation which put too much weight on certain rafters. They missed many penetrations until I checked from the attic. The shingles got damaged badly around mount bolt insert area which foreman said no need to fix for leak proof, seriously? Coordinator was lack of upfront communication and when issues happened lack of response. Very bad experience other than the sales consultant. I suggest those positive reviewers, go check tiles or shingles underneath beautiful solar panels. Go check attic rafters as those weight will be on your roof top for 25yrs+. read more

I highly recommend Simply Solar if you're looking for a solar system. I spoke wit two other companies and I found Simply Solar to be the most honest and reasonable company. Jeff was our salesman and he educated me on solar , and made it easy to understand. He didn't try to oversell us and based on our PG&E usage, recommended a small 8 panel system. When I asked if we could add additional panels in the future, he explained the permit process involved by upgrading the inverter, so after discussing we opted to have a larger inverter initially installed so that we wouldn't need to deal with re permitting ( which would kick us out of NEM2). Once Jeff left we were then assigned a project coordinator, Ally, who was absolutely wonderful to work with. She kept us updated on every step of the process and was very responsive to all of my questions. She really was wonderful to work with. The day of the install ( unfortunately for the installers Logan and Craig) was cold and rainy but they completed the process and checked in with me throughout the install. I'm still waiting for PG&E to give the final consent to operate, but all inspections have been completed and I'm able to monitor the solar production each day, which is nice. I usually hate leaving poor reviews but its been just a difficult relationship with Simply Solar. I won't mention the salesperson's name but he seemed genuine in person and believed in the products he was pushing. Before he finished his presentation with me, he said before I went with someone else to bring him any quote I had for him to match. About a week later the salesperson submitted two proposals for LG 335 panels that seemed fairly high. As I researched more into solar and got a few more quotes, realized there were other local installers who could easily provide the same/better quality panels/inverters/racking with the same or better company backed warranty. I forwarded at least 2 different quotes for higher wattage LG 370 panels and similar wattage Panasonic 335s for their review and also requested information on lesser cost Silfab panels. Initial response was that the best they could was to lower the price of the LG 335 panels and that we shouldn't consider Silfab since we didn't have much roof space. I decided to go with another installer after that but eventually that didn't work out either so I came back to Simply Solar with that same salesperson and said if he could get me the LG's at the price he lowered it to with the same energy production. It took him several days to respond but he came back with 2 different proposals for Silfabs, the same panel he discouraged me from getting. I responded by saying I didn't request a Silfab proposal (especially since he told me it wasn't recommended for my roof) and I asked if he would honor their original agreement to the lowered LG panel price and was told they'll get back to me. That was two weeks ago. A follow-up email was sent last week and same response, that they'll get back to me. No response to that email or several phone calls since. My poor review isn't about the pricing of the system. All installers have to make a profit so they'll need to price what they sell accordingly. My poor review of Simply Solar is because of the lack in communication. I don't think this is exclusive to Simply Solar, quote honestly, I've had multiple interactions with other solar installers with similar practices. However, as a consumer, it's extremely frustrating to make attempts at doing business only to be left with silence. It makes one wonder how they'll treat you as a customer once they have your money - will they continue to honor their commitment to your system? What if something breaks, will they respond to my requests? Particularly, as a potential customer, we have very little recourse - but review sites like yelp and others are one of them. I don't take posting negative reviews lightly but I also didn't particularly enjoy wasting the last several weeks waiting for responses to fairly standard questions from Simply Solar either. I recently had solar panels installed, and the whole process and experience with Simply Solar was through the roof (pun intended). David Frank (their sales manager) was the most knowledgeable, available and responsive of any representative from any company that I have ever dealt with. Sometimes the term "customer service" is an oxymoron, but that was not the case with David. He epitomizes what customer service should be all about, and it was quite refreshing. The process with the production coordinator (Ally Basham) also went very smoothly, from the planning stages through the installation. I have been assured that their customer service does not end here, in that they will be available should any questions or issues crop up. I feel confident of their support, should the need arise. Anyone considering solar should do their due diligence and interview at least three companies. My advice would be to make sure that Simply Solar and David Frank are on that list. I suspect that if they are, chances are that Simply Solar will prevail over the others. read more

I had a fantastic experience with Simply Solar. They were helpful and responsive during the entire process, from the initial quotation through the installation of 21 solar panels, a Solar Edge inverter, and an upgraded main service panel, to getting set up with PG&E's Net Metering. In my process of going solar, I spoke with and received quotes from over 10 different companies. This was extremely helpful as it gave me enough data points to really understand which quotes were fair. Many of the larger companies seem to charge a premium that does not appear justified by their customer satisfaction reviews. Other companies came in with low bids, but upon further conversation it was clear these were due to undersized systems or by leaving out key components that I had requested (such as a service panel upgrade). The Simply Solar difference started with my initial call with David Frank, the sales manager. Of all the sales people across multiple companies that I spoke with, David was by far the most knowledgeable. He gathered enough information to get a sense of what I wanted, talked me through a couple of different options, and then put together a quote that seemed very fair. I had several follow up questions for David which he always answered promptly, and even after I had signed the contract David was copied on all subsequent communications I had with Simply Solar throughout the installation process. Rachel, the project manager at Simply Solar, was also great. She did a stellar job of coordinating all the site visits to my house, the permitting with the city, the scheduling with PG&E. Everything was well organized and I was kept informed every step of the way. The installation team did a fantastic job of attractively arriving the panels on the roof. The electricians did a great job with the service panel upgrade--when the city inspector came by to check out the service panel upgrade they commented on how nice it was to see quality work. I don't often do reviews unless a business is really outstanding or intentionally awful. As another reviewer said: This is the solar company to use. We recently had solar installed by Simply Solar and they have been outstanding in every way. In my little foray into meeting with solar companies and getting bids, I found that they really run the gamut. And there are some shady ones out there! One company CEO was all over social media grossly boasting about how solar was such a money-maker for him (eww), and some sales people that I met with just seemed like they would sell pretty much anything and could care less that this is a huge investment for most people. And other companies I met with seemed legit but not super knowledgeable. Simply Solar was the opposite of all of those (a friend who met with them - and not a paid referral- directed us to Simply Solar.) Our sales/project manager Sam was incredibly knowledgeable, didn't try to upsell us on anything, and again as another reviewer said, really identified what was best for us. He also had a ton of contruction knowledge and experience too. It helped too that Simply Solar also is a roofing co. (Rockin Roofers) so they have that foundational expertise. And they are based in Petaluma so I appreciated that they have knowledge about the Bay Area, especially since we live in an area where I was worried wouldn't get enough sun to make solar worth it. Everything about our experience with Simply Solar has been great: communication about timelines, explaining everything, prompt follow-up, installation and most of all their people. Everybody we've interacted with from sales and accounting to production and install have been awesome -- friendly, professional and competent. Simply Solar was not the cheapest bid we got (but not the highest either) and I am so so glad I went with my gut and went with them. I have heard many horror stories about some other companies. Significant case of over promise, under delivery. I'm rating this 2 stars because I do have a working solar system, but overall I feel like it should be a 1 star. I chose Simply Solar because I wanted to purchase a solar system with battery backup outright and not be troubled with an unknown company owning and operating my system though some type of lease program. Through the sales process, I had many questions about equipment, control, performance, and installation locations. I was always told yes, you can do that, and yes, we can be flexible. One major issue was I didn't know exactly where to put the bulky battery and inverter equipment. Plans were drawn up, and I needed to approve the prints. I didn't like the location and asked it to be moved. I was told, the drawings were just for illustration purposes and I could specify specific equipment locations once the crew arrived and consulted with me so long as it was on the same side of the house. Unfortunately, the installation crew did not even knock on the door before they got started (I work from home) and told me if it wasn't "to print" then we would have to start the several month permitting process over. It's now difficult to get my trash cans out of the gate because the equipment is partially blocking my side access. The more frustrating part is that I actually have no control over my system. My neighbors have an Enphase system, but Simply Solar convinced me Solar Edge was better. I relied on the sales team to educate me and help choose what was right for my house. So far, all I can do is see if the system is producing power. When the storms come, my neighbors can set batter levels to reserve more power and also charge the batteries from the grid during off peak times if the sun isn't shining (of course, common when it is stormy). I can't do that as I am locked out completely from the $47,000 system I purchased outright. I've asked for access and I'm told it is against company policy. In order to do any changes to system profile like this, I need to call the company during business hours and wait for someone there to make a simple change. With the big series of storms in January, the customer support person wasn't able to setup the system the way the sales team described and told me what I thought I could do was impossible. The icing on the cake is that when we do loose power, the system takes just long enough to switch over that I have to reset every clock in the house. Not terrible, but not a problem for my neighbors with Enphase. The don't even notice when power shuts off as it's seamless. Maybe I'm just being picky, but I'm really underwhelmed and really unhappy with this purchase. I guess if everything sounds too good to believe in a sales cycle, it probably is. read more

For the past 18 months we have undergone a huge renovation project. Completely redid the interior and exterior of our home, including kitchens, baths, new deck and landscaping, etc. During that time, we went through many nightmare scenarios where we had to interrupt the work to prevent major issues from forming. We wanted Solar due to ever-escalating energy rates from PG&E that show no sign of ever abating. In addition, we had a heat pump installed a few years, but haven't used it due to high electricity prices. Moving to solar with self-generated electricity would allow use of more efficient heat pump heating with associated climate benefits versus existing gas furnace. We chose Simply on the basis of a recommendation from a general contractor friend who has solar. He asked around in his community about a good solar installer and came back with Simply (not the company that installed his system BTW -- although he's now getting an addition onto his system, installed by Simply!). Was contacted by David Frank, Simply salesperson who came over and walked us through solar opportunity -- equipment type available, installation process, legal regulations, timeframes, rough costs, etc. Once we decided to move forward, they had a contract with us next day and process began. The installation day came and the crew arrived. They were done by mid-afternoon. Then we waited for city approval and PG&E program entry. Overall, super-happy with solar power generally and with Simply specifically. We are happy with Simply because: - They gave a professional sales consultation with full information, response to follow up questions, and no pressure. Have heard anecdotes of other firms behaving like car salespeople. This is an expensive, long-term home addition and we were happy to deal with an organization that treated it appropriately. David was great -- everything one would want in a sales person. - They sell, design, install, and support the system. We wanted a single firm with complete responsibility because finger-pointing between multiple parties when a problem arises sucks. - They work fast through the whole process. Installation and approval requires a bunch of different parties to be involved, and Simply got information to the right party at the right time. We didn't feel like we had to bird dog the process to ensure it got done. - They knew how to install on our tile roof. Tile is great, but can be fragile, and we didn't want to end up with having to track down replacement tiles and conduct repairs due to poor installation. BTW, we were concerned about installation being water-resistant -- during heavy rains over past couple of months absolutely no leaking. - They've been responsive on questions/problems post-installation. The system is complex, integrating products from multiple manufacturers and they've answered questions/addressed issues quickly. Also, the regulations and reports from PG&E are tbh way complicated and difficult to comprehend. Simply has been very responsive in addressing questions on bills, PG&E credits, etc. Overall, really happy with Simply Solar. Great sales and service. And super-happy with solar system. read more
