It's been about a week and I'm still full after eating at this restaurant. Our family friend wanted to treat us out to dinner at this local spot, known for there Chinese multi course meals and offerings. They have live seafood in tanks greeting you as soon as you walk through the door, which guarantees freshness. We chose a Dungeness crab and lobster and the kitchen whipped up at least 10 courses, to be honest I lost count after five and stopped taking pictures because the dishes just kept coming out and there was an abundance of food for our group of 15. The elders in the group were making remarks of how salty the dishes were, however, I do believe it's because of their own medicated taste buds lol. For the rest of us, it tasted just fine and was prepared and presented nicely. The service was incredible, we had 2 to 3 servers waiting on us in the private room, and they were so efficient. Every time that the dish would dwindle down to half of its serving, they would quickly swap it out with a smaller dish, and that was thoughtful. The lady waitress was often coming by refilling our waters, and ensuring that our little plate was clean and a mountain of shells did not top over. The restaurant itself is pretty spacious as I mentioned there is several private rooms for parties and gatherings, it can get a little bit cold in there so bring a jacket. Sinh Sinh is the OG Vietnamese spot. Growing up, my mom would always grab food to-go from here. It's not the best Vietnamese food, but it does satisfy. Also, they open til 2am. 11/01/2025 - Yum. Came back for lunch with friends. We had Vietnamese Imperial Rolls, Dungeness Crab Fried Rice, Dungeness Crab with Ginger and Scallion Sauce and Roasted Duck. So good. When we took it out to serve our guest, we were unable to eat it because it was spoiled. When we ordered it, they gave it to me within five minutes which already cut and packed. Their share of the local fanfare has been a big part of their longevity, as they have become a perpetual late night destination and a reliable option for Asian comfort food and fresh seafood. Sinh Sinh is the Viet-Sino term for 星星 or "Star Star" (#1) The food hardly has any star quality to it but it's still one of the better options when nothing else is open. Their popularity has made them synonymous with the Bellaire Chinatown dining scene. Over the years they have expanded their dining area as well as their menu, effectively catering to everyone and everything. One can bring a large group or come solo, they have plenty of room. Parking is also easy, which has not been the case for many places in the neighborhood. A lot of Cantonese items are available here, but none of them are particularly spectacular. Beef chow fun and scrambled egg with shrimp are easy go-to's for me, and I think their seafood is one of the underrated aspects of their menu. They also have a number of Cantonese roast meats but none have really stood out. The ladder also applies to their wonton noodle and many of their fried rice combinations. It's worth noting that the more intoxicated one is, the better all this food will taste. (#2) Service is just okay. Vietnamese, Cantonese and Mandarin are all spoken by the staff. They take credit cards and have a dedicated parking lot. I wouldn't come here with just one or two other people. I came here with my family so six people in total. We got the 4-Person Family Dinner and it was good variety and great value. The food was good, but the service was terrible. Today, we stopped by this restaurant, we had three adults, one child, and a 12-month-old baby. When we received the receipt, they had automatically charged us 20% for the tip. We asked why they had added it, and they said that we had sat at the large table. They didn't care how many people were there; they still charged even if only one person was sitting there. The thing is, they were the ones who had seated us and hadn't informed us that there would be a 20% charge. We could pay it, no problem, but at least they should have put the signed to let us know. This wasn't the first time this had happened. The last time I went there, I had four adults, and they still charged me 20%. But they didn't mention it to me. They just told the that and gave me the merchant copy to sign. I added $25 more. Until I got the receipt. There were 20% plus $25 (which we had added) on the bill. I asked them why they had added the tip, and they said that it was a holiday. But that wasn't the case. They said that it was a weekend, but that was Thursday. So, they were saying that it was a weekend because they were counting Thursday as a weekend. Then they said that it was because we had five people. And I asked how they could count five people. Then they said, "Okay, I'll take it off." They gave us three reasons for the charge, but none of them made any sense. So, if you want to eat there, just take it to go and always check the bill. If you like cartoon ducks, don't order this dish. I was starving - worked at a festival all day and haven't eaten yet. I started to slurping my noodles. Delicious was not on my vocabulary for sure. I had no pleasant thoughts with this dish. It tasted like defrosted dish with deep frozen cocked potatoes and the soup was the only thing mingled with the egg noodles. Sad. Just sad. We stopped by here for a late dinner around 8:30 on a Sunday night. There were only a few groups here at first but by the next hour this place started to fill up. We started off with shrimp spring rolls which were pretty good and very large. The peanut sauce that we had with them was not as creamy as I was used to but it was pretty good. My daughter had the Wonton Noodle soup. The broth was tasty and the noodles were nice and soft. My daughter enjoyed the wontons and finished up her soup without a complaint. Next we had the salt toast soft shell crab. This came out pretty quick and the crab was soft. You could taste the pepper and salt seasoning and it was good. There was some spice with it but mostly just in the veggies. Our main course was their special of the day, the Boston lobster. We went with the the Ginger and Scallion seasoning. We were going to go with the Pepper and beer seasoning, but the waitress stated that this was a better deal and will taste better. So we went with what she said to go after. The special had two lobsters in it and tasted pretty awesome. The lobster meat was very moist and the flaving was good. I was pretty happy that we went with it. However, I will say it is a bit different eating lobster this way compared to steaming a lobster and cracking it open. It was a good learning and dining experience. Lastly while we finished up we looked around and saw that 3-4 tables had these rolls on them. We asked and were told it was their egg rolls. Found out it was their Imperial roll. We of course had to have that, and boy I'm glad we did. It was pretty tasty. Also funny since, as the server said we ordered an appetizer for dessert. On my visit, I arrived at approximately 9:20 PM and was seated by a table assistant. While seated I noticed my table had dishes that were not mind to begin with. After being given water and a menu, I waited for about 45 minutes without any server approaching to assist. During this time, multiple other guests arrived and were promptly attended to. When I inquired about speaking with a manager, the employee I spoke with did not facilitate that and instead took time to consult with a coworker. Eventually, after about 13 minutes, an assistant manager arrived and acknowledged the delay. Despite her apologies, I left the restaurant without having received any food or proper service. This experience was disappointing and far below the standard of service I expected. I wanted to bring this to attention and hope it can help improve the dining experiences for future patrons. Especially for a Houston Chronicle selected restaurant. Truly disappointing. A good place to get authentic Chinese food served family style. The deep-fried intestines and creamy walnut shrimp were definitely the standouts out of the things we ordered. The deep fried intestines had a very light and thin crispy exterior that was very enjoyable. It was also served on some pickled greens that had an acidic kick that paired well with the fatty intestines. The creamy walnut shrimp had a generous amount of caramelized walnuts which added a nice crunch and sweetness to the shrimp. The dish is on the sweeter side. We also ordered the ribs with pecking duck sauce which was sweet and tender, but not too memorable. The portion sizes were decent and my friend and I were able to eat our fill and to go some for later. I think the only iffy thing about this place is the service. The egg rolls were just ok. They weren't as crispy and flavorful as some that I have had at other places.
