My friends and I dined at Sirene on a Tuesday evening with a reservation and overall, we had a decent meal -- solid food with attentive service to match. However, this meal was definitely on the pricier side for the quality and quantity of food we received. For instance, $10 for a piece of fried chicken, $8 for a single piece of dumpling -- even for Bay Area, these are on the higher end. Between the three of us, we got an order of the Rize Up sourdough ($7), halibut crudo ($21), smoked cod dip ($15), shrimp chorizo pizza ($25), gnocchi parisienne ($28), 1/2 fried chicken ($40), and donuts ($14) for dessert. Of the items we ordered, the dishes I enjoyed the most was the pizza and the donuts. The crust was impressively thin and had a nice bite to it. Unlike sourdough crusts which can easily be overworked and tire out your jaw, the crust here was very enjoyable. The pizza had generous amounts of shrimp chorizo on top which added a punch of saltiness and spice in each bite. The cinnamon sugar dusted on top of the donuts was balanced out with bits of finishing salt; few flavors better in dessert than sweet and salty. I liked that the creme anglaise was served on a side so you could control exactly how much additional richness you wanted to add to the already indulgent dessert. One order comes with four pieces, and I assure you each person will want their own because of how good these are. The batter covering the fried chicken is crispy and crunchy, but the pieces of chicken are a bit too thick. Once you get through the crust, all you're left with is really juicy chicken. While juicy chicken is obviously not a bad thing, a good fried chicken -- in my opinion, should have crunch in every bite, and that requires the chicken is cut into smaller pieces. The octopus kimchi sauce that we opted to pair with the chicken was also a lot more runny than I would have liked; I wish the sauce was more of a viscous, sticky glaze, similar to what you typically find with Korean fried chicken. Overall, I had both highs and lows with the food at Sirene. Also, I wish the spot was a bit more affordable. 3.5 experience that rounds up to a 4.

From the moment we walked in, the service was so attentive and kind. Loved the overall look of the space with the brick and green plant accents. My husband and I tried a few cocktails and of course the highlight was the chartreuse slushy. I loved the balance of tartness and herbal flavors with just the needed amount of sweet. So fun to enjoy!! My husband and I had an in season butter lettuce salad that has an amazing mustardy vinaigrette. Gimme a bottle of that to go pleaseeeee!! We also got the fish and chips to share, and shared the fried chicken with gravy and collard greens. My favorite part of this all was probably the sauce with fish and chips. Soooooo tasty. Overall the sauces here are on point. We got the passion fruit posset for dessert and I could eat like 10 of them. Excited to come back!

It always pains me to give a place less than 4 stars, but I gotta share one person's opinion. Ultimately, a wonderful space that is offering up fare that ultimately didn't impress me and was quite expensive in value. Off night? Not sure. I came when this spot first opened, and I had similar sentiments. My favorite part of the meal was the dessert. The donuts and the hazelnut ice cream with that delicious salty cookie were truly the highlights of the meal. Everything else average. Not bad per se, but just unforgettable and of course... prices were expensive for quantity. The $40 1/2 fried chicken was really well cooked. A crispy thick layer of southern style breading deep fried with juicy chicken. It came with a sauce and we chose a mushroom sauce that I didn't think worked at all with this chicken. We also ordered a $7 (around that) biscuit that was small and fine. The gnocchi was actually well portioned for the price, but ultimately flavorless. And the shrimp and chorizo pizza, which I was excited about, again, lacked any depth or flavor... we asked for something to spice it up and she brought over a $2 side of anchovy chili oil. The smoked fish dip was just a few spoonfulls, which was fine, as I didn't love. The $21 asaparagus salad was the most flavorful with a middle-eastern spiced hummus to throw some flavor on it, it was just a very small plate for the price tag. Overall, this is teetering on a 2 star, imho. The place is really well designed, the outdoor patio so quaint and service was nice. The cocktails were solid, while none screamed out to me so I kept it at 1. Overall, not my cup of chartreuse (a very common ingredient they use in cocktails and even coffee). The space is lovely, but for the price tag, the fare didn't live up to the value.

This place continues to be one of my favorites in the Grand Lake area of SF.this review is for the gnocchi and the south East Asian twist on their food back in Jan and March. The gnocchi is the best here and it's one of the dishes they are known for. Very very delightful for potato and cheese lovers !!

Another visit to Sirene to try the regular menu. Beveragewise, wine, beer, and a cocktail were our choices. Everything went well with our choices. We started with the fries and aioli. Super crispy fries with a creamy house made mayonnaise. Yum! We also had the sea scallop crudo. It was delicate and balanced. The caviar made it feel decadent. The zucchini and plum salad was good, but it needed something. Maybe a hit of acid? Not sure. On to the mains. My friend's gnocchi was gorgeous. With a brothy corn and morel sauce, and sprinkled with shaved ricotta salata, it tasted as delicious as it looked. If you only have to a few vegetarian options, it's important to do them right. They do. The anchovy broth our mussels were swimming in was unexpectedly spicy, but in a good way. Delightful! The star of the table was the sourdough. So good by itself, and lightly toasted with the mussels. We finished things off with the passionfruit posset. It was light and exceptionally creamy. It was a terrific ending. Love the staff, love the space (this time we were in the courtyard). Well with a visit or ten. Definitely recommended.

We sat on the back patio which is super cute and has heaters. The menu was made of nice light green paper and was bound with twine which I thought was a nice touch and great attention to detail. Our server was attentive yet laid back which is the perfect combo for a nice restaurant. I got the fried chicken with a biscuit and Sirene's cup to drink. I will say I preferred the fried chicken at Mua (other Oakland upscale restaurant) but the drink, outdoor ambiance, and entire vibe were amazing. The cinnamon donuts were the perfect closer for our table to share!

Solid choice for an elevated dinner in the area. The manager David is so warm, kind, friendly, and generous. Our seafood etouffee was really delayed and he brought some house made dashi stock for us, sent an extra dessert (chocolate cake with buttermilk ice cream), and comped the dish. It was a 30+ min lag time but he and the male server were so gracious about it when we asked about it. Not sure what happened, perhaps our female server didn't put it the order right or they gave ours to another table. The drinks are good here and I love the house wine by the cm concept. House red wine was really delicious. My citrus house made soda was refreshing. The bread and butter were as good as I reviewed last time. The Dungeness crab salad was delightful and fresh with the Meyer lemon and melon balls. The chips with trout roe dip were okay. Probably wouldn't get that again. The etouffee was good when it came out and was served with some brown rice. The mixed seafood was fresh and delicious - especially the shrimp. Lemon custard is still amazing (tart snd just the right amount of sugar w citrus and the fish shaped cookie) and the chocolate cake they brought out was not too sweet. Buttermilk ice cream was very rich and flavorful. Really lovely setting for friends to get together and I saw lots of date nights and birthday celebrations. The unique soap scent in the bathroom which is a collaboration with scents by Nadia was also different and refreshing. Thanks David! We will be back!

Service - 3/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Food - 3/5 Came to Sirene for dinner and left feeling underwhelmed overall. Oysters were fine and exactly as expected. Sea scallop crudo was disappointing. I'm usually a big fan of yuzu, but the balance between the scallops, citrus, and bee pollen felt off and didn't quite work for me. Crudités with caviar ranch was not what I was expecting. The vegetables served with caviar mixed into the ranch felt underwhelming, and the dish missed the mark for me. Spiny lobster crudo was the standout of the meal -- great flavor with a nice level of spice. Fish and chips were tasty but ultimately forgettable. Overall, a few bright spots, but not enough to make the experience memorable or worth a return visit.

Just had an amazing Mother's Day dinner at Sirene last night. We had the best table outside (back and to the right, last table) for four, but could easily seat six if that's what you need. Their menu has changed since what is online - no more steelhead trout or mussels. I'm sorry that I didn't take a picture. For four, here is what we ordered: 6 Pacific Cocktail Oysters Smoked Fish Dip Roasted Asparagus Salad Cod with Morels and Asparagus (not on current online menu - delicious and I'd order again) Half Fried Chicken with All the Fixin's Rize Up Sourdough We had the BEST time and it was all super delicious. Our waitress was also kind in dealing with my (can be difficult in a Boomer way) dad. I'm sorry that I didn't take a picture of the fried chicken but the ones on Yelp are accurate. It was enough for us to share (two drumsticks and a wing and a thigh). The collards were SO good and vinegar-y which is how I like them. The standout for me was the asparagus salad. Run, do not walk.

Amazing ambiance, service, and food! But something's are a miss... Sirene is honestly a gem of a restaurant. The restaurant is fairly large yet feels quite cozy in all areas. The design of the restaurant is also very tasteful. Everything from the front to back patio, even the bathroom is tasteful. The back patio was a highlight for me. Many restaurants treat the patio as an afterthought, but at Sirene. The patio feels like the main seating area. Very thoughtfully designed, soft lights, plants. And heaters spaced throughout the space. It's a very comfortable area. The appetizers we got were a 10/10! Get the chicory salad with squid, get the black trumpet porridge! Those two were the highlights by the whole table. But maybe don't get the fish and chips and don't get the fried chicken... Not sure what happened here but it just didn't work. The fried fish coating was very soft, not crispy, and the fried chicken lacked a rich flavor and juiciness. But overall it's an amazing place to go to. After this, I'm going to seek out their sister restaurant , The Morris in SF!

Sirene, dear Sirene, I am not worthy. Oh my goodness! This morning one of Oakland's finest galerists invited me to meet at Sirene for coffee and I feel so very fortunate. May I say, this is much more than a coffee shop, it's only one of the hottest new restaurants in the town. But oh my, coming here for coffee and a pastry is incredible. I can hardly imagine how wonderful dinner is. I had a fantastic latte and the cinnamon bun was absolutely sublime. From the richly flavored frosting to the elegant texture of the bun to the crust of sweet caramelization on the bottom. Magnificent! It was really an experience and a joy to eat it. I loved every single bite of that pastry. It's almost a fine dining version of your local coffee shop - it's really that good. I'm serious, the service is so kind and thoughtful. It is happy that human beings like this help you get your morning to such real lovely state. There is tons of seating. With lots of light upfront and less light but an incredibly warm environment in the back. There's a rear patio for sunnier and/or warmer days as well. What a discovery! Did I mention that I can't wait to come here for dinner?

They had me at the free to customer sparkling water spout :) What a cool place! I visited during their lunch hours. The counter staff were very welcoming and friendly. I ordered the chartreuse cappuccino and the farmers plate. Loved the chartreuse cappuccino! What an interesting and creative idea. The flavors work. Get a little anise kick at the finish. The farmers plate included pate de campagne made from pork, brillat savarin soft cheese, and mustard frill, which I've never had. It was actually somewhat sweet. I loved it! I'm so happy to have an option like this just a short bike ride away. It's very unique and a cut above. Definitely coming back for dinner!

Really enjoyed our time here at Sirene - their outdoor eating area is homey and beautiful with how they decorated their courtyard area. I'll need to go back again to try their raw bar and crudo, as my wife was pregnant when we went and we needed to eat cooked food. I loved their early girl starter, which was the standout dish for me. Other items, like their shrimp chorizo fell a little flat. Other dishes, such as the abalone were delicious. Mussels were also a hit. The staff were super attentive and were great in making sure we had a great experience. Don't skip the buckwheat doughnuts - they were BOMB.

    Is sirene pet friendly?

    Yes. Well, dogs anyway.

Do they take reservations for brunch on Sat/Sun or is it just walk in/wait list?

It's just a standard, in-line cafe for this. Offerings are still small. Coffee and pastry rn. This may increase, but it's kinda bare bones.

Parking is a bit difficult but we managed to find street parking a block away. Wasn't too crowded and there was plenty of seating inside. You order first and you find a table to sit, and they bring out the food to you. Self serve water is available. The food came out pretty quick! Thoughts: - Lobster roll (classic) was delicious! Generous amount of lobster. Would definitely get this again. Chips weren't too great though. - Fried shrimp basket was nice. Shrimp was crispy and tasty. Fries were also very crispy and flavorful. The sauces go well with the shrimp/fries. Coleslaw isn't the best though. - The crab nachos were surprisingly good. A nice cheese sauce combo with pico/avocado crema and a good amount of crab. - Garlic noodles were fine, nothing standout about them. - Mix and match basket with catfish, cod, and calamari (not pictured): Catfish was solid (would highly recommend, one of the favorites of the meal!), but would pass on the cod and calamari - a bit dry/fishy. Would recommend for a casual spot for seafood and a nice view!

Anyone remember the Jack London Village that they tore down to build this end of the development? Anyways - this is a fast casual type spot, where you order from the counter, place the little number sign on your table and wait for it to be delivered. The menu is your standard seafood joint by the water type, with all the usual suspects represented. Fried fish, shrimp, chowder, seafood pastas--if you've ever been to a seaside seafood joint, chances are good that the menu here is exactly like the one you remember seeing at the countless other places like this one. I noticed right off the bat that their pricing structure was on the high side - with a $17 burger and fries option, with the bulk of the fried seafood options in the $22-25 range. A cheaper choice might be the $16 fish tacos (two of them) but I kind of draw the line at paying $8 for a single taco. Our table ordered a few of the fried options plus a few soda beverages. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and I noticed that the silver metal trays that the food comes on is a bit on the small side, especially considering the prices for each dish. The fried shrimp dish was a big scoop of mega-salty french fries, and 3 average sized deep fried shrimp. Yes - 3 as in 1, 2, 3. That's what - $7+ a shrimp? The two fried fish platters weren't much better portion-wise. My deep fried cod consisted of three modest sized fish-fingers, and not the single luscious chunk of perfectly fried cod I had imagined in my head when ordering. They were fine - but very average and nothing that stood out as life-changing or something to write home about. As mentioned earlier, they must be employing the Little Rascals method where they over salt everything, in hopes that you'll order another beverage to wash down the copious mounts of sodium (I figure about 4+ days worth). The fried catfish platter that rounded out our order was more of the same - thin meager portions of fish on a large bed of mega-salted fries. Small plastic containers of generic pre-made tartar sauce and coleslaw can with each platter. The coleslaw was fine - just very forgettable and perhaps a tad on the flavorless/watery side. All said, was it okay? Yes. Was it anything outstanding that I'd crave and plan my return to have again? No. It is in line with touristy by-the-Sea seafood places that charge an extra couple of bucks because they're "on the water"? Pretty much. You're paying for the view and the 'scene' of sitting on the patio out front to people watch, and not for the food. I kind of hate these places and normally try my best to stay away from them, but every once in awhile, you gotta put on your tourist hat and join the mindless flock. A meager 2 stars outta 5 from me. Instead, I'd stroll around this area on a Sunday when they hold the farmer's market (again - is not what it used to be) and then drive through the tube to Alameda where great dining spots are numerous on Park Street. You can stop at Crab Cove and Crown Beach on the way, for more touristy sightseeing.

He found the ribs to be fall-off-the bone tender, with potatoes that were more whipped than mashed alongside a carrot puree. I, on the other hand, had the New York Steak and au gratin potatoes. Though I wanted to enjoy my entree, I found the New York Steak to be unfortunately chewy and with too much fat. The au gratin potatoes could have had more crispy layers but tasted mediocre. Based on that conversation, I expected fresh live crawfish, which was available Tuesday when I ordered from DoorDash the previous time. After I got home and opened my order this time. it was clear that the crawfish had been frozen. If the restaurant serves frozen crawfish, that's fine, but customers should be given accurate information when they ask directly about the product right? I feel misled because I relied on what I was told when making my purchase. Transparency is important, and I hope the restaurant does a better job communicating with customers about whether their crawfish are live or previously frozen. VERY DISHONEST BUSINESS SMH.

There's nothing NOT to love about this place!…read more I made a reservation for date night, as we've wanted to try this place for awhile. The atmosphere is cozy and casual and the service staff are really friendly. In terms of food, we started with a dozen oysters, the smoked trout dip, and the boquerones. The smoked trout dip was outstanding!!! Loved the flavor of it! The Boquerones was also delicious... the oysters were all fresh and can be ordered with horseradish and hot sauce (I think it was Crystal). For mains we ordered the steamed mussels and the grilled shrimp. The mussels were good, though on the smaller side, and the shrimp was delicious, buttery and garlicky. Great combo! To finish I had the Key Lime Pie which was done in a bowl. Great lime flavor and not overly sweet. Overall, a fantastic experience and we will definitely return!

When we walked in, we were greeted with an awkward look, which immediately made the experience feel a little uncomfortable. We were seated with menus and waited about 10 minutes without anyone coming by to take a drink order. I completely understand that staff may be busy attending other guests, so I tried to be patient. Since it felt a little stuffy inside, I kindly asked if we could sit outside, and they said yes. After moving outside, we waited another 10+ minutes and still no one checked in on us. Meanwhile, I could hear servers laughing and chatting nearby while we continued to be overlooked, so we ultimately decided to leave. I was genuinely excited to try this place, so the experience was disappointing.

I really wanted to like this place because we need a good oyster spot in this neighborhood. Here's…read morea quick breakdown: Came here for Mother's Day to try some place new. Walked in. No one greeted us. Wasn't sure where to go. Went to the register. Waited a minute for someone to come out. Ordered the clam chowder, dozen oysters and fish & chips with a glass of mystery orange wine. Decided to sit outside in the back patio. Table was dirty from previous guest which usually doesn't bother me be ut little things started adding up. Service took a while. Oysters came out first. 20 min. They were fresh and delicious. Just enough to get the palette opened up. $46 though? Way overpriced but was willing to overlook since it is Mother's Day. Next up - clam chowder, 10 min after they took the tray for the oysters. Smallest bowl I ever saw. Flavor was good. Temperature was luke warm. Broth was thin. $10. Not worth it. Last was the fish and chips. 10 min after picking up the chowder bowl. Portion looked good enough to make up for the small clam chowder, except it was under seasoned. Fish texture was a bit dry too. Fries were meh. Between the overall vibe...the overpriced items...the time between dishes...and the lack of flavor, I will continue my search for an oyster spot in this neighborhood.
