Simply Amazing! Why? Well not that I am a novice to Korean food, my step-mother of 25 years was Korean and she loved to cook for my Dad and me. Of course my favorite was Galbi-Gui. My wife and I live in the Southeast valley between Queen Creek and Gilbert. While distance for good food is never a problem we never knew this place existed in DR until 2 weeks ago. We stopped in for lunch and was greeted warmly by hospitable staff and a very clean and inviting ambiance. Love it! Quickly made our way through the menu and for our tastes the pricing was spot on and well worth the portions per person. Wonderful approach to having the staff prepare the Galbi at the table for you as opposed to bringing it out already cooked or having you cook it yourself. Was expecting lots of vegetables just like home and Sizzling did not disappoint right down to the fresh kimchi. All you can eat - Yes! While the galbi was not the bone in that I am used to, that was not an issue because they offered to cook the bone portion along with the meat. Rare date night with my special lady. First time here and not sure what to expect. Seated immediately and then was given various side dishes/sauces for the meat. Server was very nice although he didn't know what a lager was. . We ordered the steak dish and it's fantastic! Lots of meat and more eat! All cooked at your table (grill at each table). This is where my sister and I brought our mother for her birthday. I drove all the way from Washington's naval base, we had to wait only a couple minutes, it might have been a lot longer at the wrong time and if another group decided to cancel instead due to an emergency. I recommend calling ahead of time just in case. I do not recommend the appetizers, since the meal is prepared relatively quickly and that there is already a variety of food on the table upon sitting down. Every dish we had was satisfying, and tasted great. The only things that would have made me rate it higher was if the waitress remembered the a couple things we asked for, it was not much of a problem though once we ask again. Waited outside for 20 minutes to put my name on the list because the hostess was missing. When she came she decided to create a wait list and had us record our info to wait for another another 20 minutes. There was no line too. 5 tables were empty so I asked the hostess can't we get seated at one of the empty tables. The hostess gave us an excuse that there was a procedure they have to go through... It's really sad to see a somewhat expensive restaurant giving us poor customer service and experience by the hostess. I've been here once before and it was a 5 star experience. I found the whole concept confusing, disappointing, way overpriced for what you get. The only pro was the location itself. I waited about 20 minutes and was greeted by the host. We sat in the grilling section. The table was already set up with Banchans (side dishes), and salad. It came with a free steamed egg. We thought it was interesting since most Korean restaurants bring the Banchans after you've placed the order. We started eating then waiter came by to put in our order. Apparently, the grill seating section required 2 meat orders or combo with no exception. I didn't want to eat meat or grill. I really wanted the other menu items. There was the non-grilled seating section option. The waiter indicated that the host should have addressed at time of seating if we wanted grill or non-grilling. I don't recall the host mentioning anything at all. Absolutely confusing! Finally, the waiter allowed us just order one meat selection. I am not used going to a Korean place that the waiter grills the meat for you. Normally, the waiter just cut the meat and not grills the meat. I rather do the grilling myself. That is the true Korean BBQ experience. I found the constant interruption with the waiter grilling the meat was so annoying. I can never finish the conversation. Don't you hate it when you get off work late at night, you're starving, and you go somewhere to eat only to receive rude service and mediocre food? I'm glad I chose Sizzle last night for my post Saturday night work shift meal, because I got the polar opposite of what was described above! I came here at around midnight for some late night noodles. Thankfully, the restaurant wasn't crowded. I opted out of KBBQ because I was alone, and eating KBBQ alone is never any fun. I forgot to eat lunch before work and I was starving. I told Lindsey, my super awesome server, that I would like to order cold noodles and kalbi tang (short rib soup). She warned me that the portions are large, and that it may be too much food for just little ole me. I started with cold noodles and a bowl of rice. Thank goodness for that warning, because I was stuffed at the end of all of that plus the banchan! Needless to say, she didn't care if her bill was more expensive for a bigger tip for herself. She thought of the customer first. I gave her the tip she would've gotten with the kalbi tang anyways. I'm not the easiest customer. I ask questions, I need hot water, etc, and so I tip accordingly. The cold noodles are NOT naeng myun HOWEVER they are delicious and I highly recommend them. Somen type noodles with delicious pickled radish. Banchan exceeded my expectations by far. I've eaten some pretty bad Korean food outside of LA Ktown and Honolulu, but Sizzle puts care and love in their banchan. Mine consisted of bean sprouts, radish kimchi, regular cabbage kimchi, sweet pickled cabbage, korean fish cake, and broccoli. Even my side of rice was stellar. Good quality. read more

I'm a regular at Sizzle, which was formerly a consistent 5, and an excellent choice for date nights, for business dinners, and for the occasional kids' night out. Disappointingly, our second to last visit was very sub-par. Even more disappointingly, our most recent visit (our second in one week) confirmed this downturn not an outlier but the new trend. Observations: 1) The hostess completely misquoted the wait time. No wait on the phone. 25 minute wait on arrival a few minutes later. Closer to a 40 minute wait in actuality. 2) All this is happening while we're wrangling two young kids and watching about 5 tables go un-bused almost the ENTIRE time, and while the hostess stands there with a blank look in her eyes. If it were me, I would have shown a little initiative and bussed all 5 tables in under 5 minutes. The first two items apply to the first night. The following apply to both nights: 3) The service was extremely slow and unreliable. Waiting 15 minutes between courses and to get the check, while unsuccessfully trying to wave down a server the whole time, as well as under and over-cooked meat should not happen in a high-touch dining service model. At one point, we actually went under the table to turn up the flame and cook our own meat. 4) The meat cuts were of poorer-than-usual quality and each night the restaurant was out of certain staple meat selections and/or side dishes. One last observation from the second night: 5) The hostess - a different one from the first night - was unable or unwilling, with no good explanation, to accommodate our request for a prepared table in the corner. Seems unreasonable in a restaurant the size of a room, where the alternative is sitting close to other tables and next to the door, where large groups of people congregate, while waiting to be seated, some for a few minutes at a time, within an arm's reach of where you are eating with your mask off. My hope in writing this review is that ownership will take notice and make the appropriate corrections so that we can enjoy our next visit there, with the high quality service and product we've come to expect, so that we may then revise this review. A good place to start is simply by looking at things from the perspective of the customer. Felt that the waiter was rushing us to order. Also felt that they don't give you their full attention before having to run back to another table to cook their food. The awkwardness of having someone trying to cook for you and not make any conversation. They should ask if you need assistance to cook rather than just doing it. Some of us guys rather do it and cook it to how we want it. It's just very disturbing trying to have conversation with family and then getting interrupted with someone in between trying to cook your food. The waitress also was using the same tongs to touch the raw meat and the cooked meet at the same time. This is cross contamination. The only meat we enjoyed was the marinated short rib. Everything else was bland. The kimchee soup did not taste authentic and the egg had a weird flavor. The kimchee was too sour and they charge you for rice. Charging for rice with how pricy the Combo is outrageous. An all you can eat restaurant cost waaaayy less and you don't pay for rice. The meat quality is the same as well. This restaurant is not it. My first time trying Korean BBQ so I might have had the wrong expectations but: Did not enjoy the rib eye because it was cooked with 0 (zero) salt and dipping the cooked meat in salt later is not the same. I enjoyed the bulgogi a lot more and it was cheaper Same goes for the steamed egg - no salt The salads were great and the Korean dumplings were great. The dumpling sauce was the star, dumplings were regular dumplings. About the service: waiter was friendly but did not explain everything until we asked AND we were forced to order to BBQs (after we were told one could suffice for 2 people). I had been hearing rumblings about a new Korean BBQ opening in Desert Ridge, I was excited but in all honesty I wasn't expecting much just primarily due to its location but I was still stoked to try it out and even more so after reading so many positive reviews on Yelp. To say I was blown away would be an understatement, Sizzle is one of the best Korean BBQ's I've had, and is possibly the best in Phoenix! First the quality of the meat is top notch, the side dishes were all authentic and delicious and service was great. It can get a little pricey, but I think the experience, quality of food makes up for the price. Ordered some delicious makkoli to drink, and to my surprise they served it with the large metal bowl. Ordered the Korean dumplings, they were flavorful and cooked perfectly! The Steamed egg and some rice to go with the meat. I was a little bummed that they were out of the Prime Rib Eye the night I went but we ordered the Marinated Price Think Sliced beef, Soy Marinated Pork Shoulder Rib and the Spicy Pork Jowl... My stud of a boyfriend and I came to Sizzle for date night. Super cool concept, definitely unique and strangely somewhat confusing if you're new to this. You gotta try things out at least once, right? We did! We were seated right away and served little bowls of Korean sides, probably what they serve with BBQ in Korea. Bowls aren't too big however they give you an idea of all the flavors and textures. We were also plated a nice big salad to share. ***If you have a hard time with chopsticks, or even if you're a pro, make sure to ask for a fork or spoon because the silver chopsticks, though once again a cool concept were really hard to use - and I'm somewhat decent using chopsticks.*** Anyways, my handsome honey and I ordered prime ribeye and wagyu beef. Cindy was our server and was so-so, not the friendliest server but not the meanest one either. She probably could slow it down to those who visit the restaurant - again, you gotta try things out at least once, right - we were new to this. The meats were indeed cooked to perfection but hang on...... ...they don't bring you rice......a Korean restaurant that doesn't give you rice. Sigh. Don't worry, you can order rice for a small fee. It pains me to give a bad review. The food was pretty good. At least what I had. I'll explain. I've been meaning to go check out this restaurant because I miss my Korean food. I was excited to see both this restaurant and Ohya open up within a couple miles from work. I was watching the UFC fight and they open late so I thought I'd get a midnight snack. Went in and expected that they would cook the meat for me in the back since I was by myself but they said there was a minimum order of 2 people's worth of meat to order meat at all. Now most Korean BBQ places will cook a single serving in the back and bring it out. But they still let you order it. Nowhere on the menu did I see a minimum order requirement. Quite frustrating. It's not like it was super busy so they couldn't give me the attention. I was the only diner in there at the time. Looking at the menu I was surprised at the cost of the meat. Since I was not allowed to order said meat I can't comment on the quality of the meat, but it is clearly overpriced. Ohya offers all you can eat (with sushi) for $25. Even their combos are about $40-50. I guess Desert Ridge has a premium on rent but I hope they didn't price themselves out. Since I was there I did order the (cold radish noodle soup). I crave this often but always compare it to The Corner Place () in LA. It wasn't as good but was still good and I could see this being a lifesaver in the hot summer here. The (side dishes) were good and I will say they were better than Ohya. I was never offered seconds when I ran out as well. Since I wasn't ordering a bunch of meat I guess I can understand but service is service. What did I expect from a place that charges you for rice! I'm torn writing this review. I think they have potential and hopefully appeal to the trend of KBBQ. I will have to give them another chance but wasn't impressed with my initial visit. read more

This place is amazing... we went on a Saturday and was still able to be seated in about 30 minutes. They have your salads and all the little delicious eats ready at your table. Julie came to serve us and instantly we knew we has someone that was not going to steer us wrong with her recommendations. The best is that she makes sure that they cook the steak to everyone's liking and as slow as you want to eat. They are not just worried to get you in and out but to make sure you enjoy yourself and get the full experience of Korean BBQ. Always making sure everything taste well for you and that you are comfortable. We also ordered the kamachi fried rice which another dish that is delicious and tastey. This is an update... the first time we went it wasn't good but we decided to try again on Mother's Day. My husband ordered take out to go. He ordered meat combo and Korean rice bowl. That's 2 items. The total bill was $114.00. I really don't mind paying $$$ for good food. But this food is NOT good. It's not bad but it's really hot that good. The meat combo didn't even include rice. The take out was definitely the worst than when we ate it there. It was cold and so bad. No big surprise at bad food but I was surprised that they automatically added 20% TIP to the check and she kept us pointed to it and said "this ok?" He didn't know what was happening... and she asked 2 more times "this ok?" "This ok?" Lol or We take out from all kinds of restaurants and we have NEVER had this kind of rude behavior. J hi When he finally said no, only option she gave him was 18% TIP. He felt uncomfortable so he just signed on 18% TIP. OK, I realize that tipping on take out order is starting to be expected but shoving 20% in to your bill without asking is very rude. So, not only this place has not very good good, it has to be most over priced mediocre food in the country. And now they add 20% on top of this and expect to just pay it. Very impressed with this new restaurant. Waitress explained the menu to us before we ordered. We opted for the small beef combo and added pork belly since there were 3 of us. The meat quality was exceptional and there were so many things (side dishes, steamed egg in clay pot, kimchee or soybean stew) that came with the meal. The price is higher than other Korean BBQ I've been to but the portion makes up for the price. The waitress did all the cooking for us too. Stopped in here for the first time we were walking and looking for a place to have lunch. The minute We stepped in I knew it was going to be an experience. The four of us sat down and immediately the hostess left us menus within a minute our server/chef Jayden was there asking if we wanted a cocktail, beer or wine. Shortly after that he brought out salads and condiments. We hadn't been there before so we told him we knew nothing about how to order or what all these items were. He was excellent in providing suggestions for our protein choices and explained the condiments and how to use them, as well as what he would be doing with the table cook surface. He communicated what we can expect and helped us with suggestions on everything. We had a wonderful time and all the food was done exceptionally! I'd been wanting to try this place ever since it opened. Living in the area, I frequent Desert Ridge quite a bit and was always intrigued when ever I walked by the restaurant. It's very modern and clean inside. I knew right off the bat it wasn't going to be cheap, and it wasn't but here's what you are paying for: Tableside Cooking. First, it's a unique experience, a novelty restaurant. How many eateries have a gas stove in the center of the table where food is cooked right in front of you. Not many. Compare it to another pricey restaurant with fondue, Melting Pot. You're paying for the experience. Food Quality. If you go for the BBQ option (we learned there are two options: BBQ or non. I'll explain this in a bit) you are opting to have the meat cooked at your table. We did the beef option for two for $65. It seemed like a good way to try a bunch (5) of different options for one price. The quality of the meat is wonderful. A couple of the cuts did not have seasoning and that was okay because the meat spoke for itself. It didn't need much. I just used a little of the rock salt condiment and it was delicious. A couple of the other cuts, like the short ribs, were marinated and they were delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection. No complaints on the food. Condiments & sides. They do give you a lot of condiments and sides with your meal. There was an assortment of kimchi and a bunch of others that was fun to try. Now the service was just okay. Our waitress, who also cooked our food, was somewhat friendly but kind of just, bleh... She explained what all the food was as she was cooking it, but wasn't exactly chatty. I think they could work on this. Back to the BBQ vs NON-BBQ options. Since this was our first time, we had no idea we had options. And they spring it on you as soon as you walk in the door, which is a bit jarring, and caused us a little confusion. I guess this makes a difference in how they seat you or maybe there's a different menu, I don't know, but it took us aback. We looked at each other, shrugged, and asked the hostess what the difference was. BBQ = meat, NON = soups and sides. We of course said 'BBQ please!' I don't know how this could be done better for first timers but it tripped us up. There must be a better way to present the options other than to ambush you at the door. Now, we got the 5 meat dinner for two, an appetizer of dumplings (yummy) and my friend ordered one beer. Before tip it came to $90. Pretty spendy evening, which is why I knocked it down a star. This is not something you do but more than maybe once or twice a year. It's really a special occasion place unless you're rolling in the dough, which I'm not. I have two minor complaints. One, they didn't give us any napkins. I had to use the drink napkins from the beer my friend ordered to wipe my hands. And two, the music was ridiculously loud. If I can't hear the waitress or my date, it's too loud. Turn it down. So, will I be back? Probably. Will it be anytime soon? Not if I'm paying! read more

We always get the large beef combo which was more then enough food to feed a family of 4 given the option of unlimited sides. The bulgogi, kimchi fried rice, pickled radishes and kimchi stew are all delicious and highly recommended. The servers grill all the meats for you which is likely why this restaurant is a higher price point than most other Korean bbq spots. The only downside about our second visit is that they were out of all Sizzle-Ritas (including my favorite mango madness flavor). For some reason, this place doesn't think these things are part of Korean BBQ.. Another very odd thing..they only give cheap small cocktail napkins. Very odd when you need to wipe your hands from eating with lettuce leaves. Servers are good intentioned, but not Korean, and dont know much about the cuisine. Everything a little off. Just need someone to be passionate about the food to lift this place above mediocre. read more
