So far, this is the oddest place I have been to. There is a small child watching YouTube video game tutorials . A gentleman that seems overly preoccupied with putting food items in a delivery bag. Every table has a reserved sign on it, so where would you like us to sit? It seems very unorganized. I would expect to see this type of restraunt in a suburban strip mall, rather than a higher scale shopping mall. Took easily 10 min to get our drinks to us. Twice we were offered other people's food, so there is a need to update POS systems or front of house management. The cheese puffs are very good. The orange chicken was more sweet than spicy.No presentation, just put on a plate and take it out. I felt like I was at someone's home, rather than a restaurant. Maybe that is the vibe they are going for. The dish was more like opening up a bag of chicken fingers then dump a sweet orange sauce. If anyone has had a frozen orange chicken meal,made by a company that is famous for their pies. A meal that can be purchased at your local grocery store...well, that is close to what we are talking about. It came out without any serving utensil. WTH? The Mongolian beef was more like pot roast and fatty. It certainly was not what I would consider spicy. Ambiance is VERY casual. There are regulars and they seem to be like family, so that is cool, once you have been accepted in the circle of trust. Maybe I am spoiled, because we tend to get very good Chinese in Las Vegas, due to the "Whales" coming in to gamble. I wanted to let it breathe before posting "hot". To be fair. We were offered some dumplings to apologize for the wait. We declined, because I was afraid of what they may taste like. I asked for the check and the lady resisted saying that we hardly touched the food and she did not want to charge. This also was nice, but my ENTIRE working life has been in the hospitality/customer service/food service industry. They have bills to pay. They prepared the meal. They provided the service. They deserved to be paid. She apologized once again and said that they were using a new cook. I thought that I might be unusually over-critical however, my nephew, who resembles a trash compactor went away saying that there would be way he would ever get food from there. What a great find this was! I got the Mongolian beef - totally different than any Mongolian beef you will have anywhere! Normally it is a mixture of assorted vegetables mainly onions with some cabbage and also the beef is usually very dense and thinly sliced beef loin. However, at this place they've taken that up several notches. They use brisket that is slow cooked and then oven roasted. Oh my God! Did not expect that coming. The rice was very nicely done. They ran out of lo mein noodles so the server (also the chef?) came out to explain that she mixed in udon noodles, too. Of course, the smaller noodles were crunchy. She randomly brought out several other dishes, but literally not one dish had flavor. Not one. Maybe our Diet Coke only. I really wanted to like this place, owners were trying hard. It did remind me of some other Chinese restaurants where one of the tables is completely messy and filled with personal effects of the owners. I tried out the dynamite tofu with seasonal vegetables. The service was quite accommodating as she asked me plenty of questions. Even when she got my order wrong, she went and got it fixed. Overall, the food was pretty nice and the atmosphere of the place was relaxed. My meal cost me $16.20. read more

We were on a vacation staying nearby and had this place suggested to us as affordable and homemade Asian food made by the owner so we thought, yes let's go check it out! Let me tell you, it felt like going to eat at my mom's house: we ordered 4 dishes but then she brought out "an appetizer" for us to try: it was huge! Our spread ended up being so large that we had enough for lunch the next day! Overall, I was quite pleased: if I had to say it, while the wonton noodle soup was an incredibly generous portion, I kind of expected the traditional small wontons and got giant dumplings that could have been its own full meal! We also got to meet their daughter Liz, who had the best time coloring with our kiddo. Restaurant has such a nice homey vibe. My friend and I had reservations for liplab and decided to make reservations for this spot since we haven't been here yet since it opened. We walked there 10 mins before our reservation and waited about 5 mins before someone came to say hi. I let them know we had reservations and they said we couldn't eat inside as they had a bday party. I again advised that we had reservations and they said, "fine we will clean a table" They cleaned up a table in the back but the mess from the party was still there. They shouldn't allow reservations if they had private events beforehand. The food was not bad but it was nothing special. We came hungry and started with steaming edamame, dumplings, and tempura shrimp (the holy trinity) The cashew chicken & veggies is my go-to lighter option - but this visit, the steamed bao buns stole the show - melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Liz even brought out seaweed so we could roll our own sushi - something I wouldn't have thought to order...now I'm fully obsessed! The dish that officially tops my list though: Liz's Lo Mein Noodles combo with chicken, pork, & beef. I've never tasted anything like it - dangerously addictive. 10/10 experience. Always. Everything was made to order and preparation & ingredients were delicious! Prices were so affordable! Spring rolls were so tasty & fried to perfection! Fried chicken tenders in bao buns were so tasty. Wanton/noodle soup was huge & broth was obviously home-made and rivaled my "Jewish-penicillin" generations old recipe. This place was awesome! Was in Scottsdale looking for a place to grab dinner with my sister and brother in law and came across Liz Modern Asian as I had inKind credits to use. When I saw the Google Maps rating I booked a reservation. No need as we were early and the first ones in the restaurants. This is a true mom & pop restaurant as the dad took our orders and the mom was in the kitchen. Meanwhile, their daughter was running around playing with a balloon and actually greeting customers when they came in. It was awesome! We ordered 3 dishes to share and they were all great. I can't imagine any of the other dishes being bad. For around $15 an entree, it was affordable in today's economy, too. Would 100% come back next time I'm in AZ. read more

I got an eggroll and Mongolian beef. The people working there were friendly. There were odd things all over the place like legos and toys and pottery and catering dishes and tons of to go bags. It needs a good cleaning inside. I'm not going to go into too much detail about the food. It was not good. Shredded I think beef. No vegetables. A lump of half white half brown I think rice. And, a gross eggroll that I actually think was deep fried egg. How can they afford the rent at the Quarter? Step up your game Liz. read more

Just a horrible experience! Went for restaurant week. Walked in, we were seated, given water and the special menu which appeared to be lots of food, served family style. That's when problems started; first dish arrived about 25 minutes after we sat down. The person bringing the dish seemed confused, 10 minutes later, another dish arrived, not a real amount for 3 people. Then a woman came out trying to ask us what we have already been served. We told her and waited again for next course. No refills for water. Finally after being there for another 25 minutes, we decided to pay the check and leave. We were there for 80 minutes with very little food or service. Food was not real hot or very tasty. Very disappointing. read more

Had a truly excellent meal at Liz Modern Asian when I was traveling to Scottsdale. We were shopping at the new Lego store across the street and jumped in about an hour before they closed. Not being a huge fan of chain restaurants, we were delighted to find that this was a family-owned establishment. The food was excellent and Liz herself came out to chat with us to make sure that everything lived up to our expectations. They even brought out a big bowl of fresh, homemade dumplings for our table to share. They were delicious. After chatting for a short while, we made our way out and, as we were leaving, Liz asked us if we wanted to wait a few moments she'd send us home with some fresh beef dumplings (the ones we had were pork)! Unfortunately, we were flying out the next day and couldn't take them. I would absolutely go visit with Liz and her family again the next time I'm in Scottsdale and I'd recommend you do the same if you're in the area. Not sure what happened to this place. I had a lot of good things to say about it when we visited a couple of times last summer, but we had lunch here today and were very disappointed. The place looked like the back of he restaurant spilled over to the front. It was a mess. Paper and trash on the floor, tables that had not been wiped down, takeout containers and bags carelessly dumped on the tables. The food, oh wow, just as disappointing. Nothing more unappetizing than food that looked hurriedly prepared and just sloppily dumped on the plate with no presentation whatsoever. I'll be honest, my first impression wasn't great. The dining room looked disheveled and it was pretty empty, so I started second-guessing if we'd made the right call. But once the food came out, I knew we had. We ordered the Mongolian beef and the cashew chicken with vegetables. It took a bit, but it was clearly made from scratch. The husband, who was also our waiter, thanked us for being patient and even upgraded us to fried rice. When the food hit the table, it felt like eating at a Chinese relative's house: generous portions, super fresh ingredients, and everything cooked with care. The wife (and chef) came out to chat afterward with their little girl, which really sealed it for me. It's a small family-run spot in the middle of Scottsdale Quarter, surrounded by big chains, but it deserves way more attention. I visited on a Saturday afternoon. Apparently this was the wrong day to visit. I entered and I could hear people in the back work and a child running, alternating between laughing and screaming. I called out hello multiple times. No answer. After reading the reviews and seeing the online pictures, I really wanted to try this place. So I waited 10 more minutes. I ordered quickly, as I'd had ample time to study the menu. When the food came, I realized after the waiter left that I needed soy sauce. I waited a few minutes to see if he'd come back to ask if I needed anything or if i could flag him down by peering through the windows. He was no where in sight. So I got my butt up and went inside. A lady was walking out of the back and she asked if i needed anything. I stated that I needed soy sauce as I grabbed one from a nearby table. She asked if the food was okay. I didn't have the heaet to tell the truth. The food. If was clear to me very early on that it totally wasn't the right day to eat here. The spring rolls were not your typical rolls. They were fried extra hard, very crispy so that whatever was inside wasn't tastable. The noodles in the garlic shrimp were very hard/stiff as well. Almost as if they were days old. However, the shrimp was good! The fact that after the food was dropped off at the table, no one came out to check on me. I have to go back inside & ask for a to-go box and my check. I think it was a fluke, but we got up and left before the server could take our order. They were very nice. And seemed authentic. Perhaps not entirely ready for business. The tables were disheveled and the screen dividing the kitchen from the dining was tipped over. It was restaurant week and we did not want to order a bunch of food. 30-40$ per person....Also, I saw zero vegetarian dishes on the R. W. Menu. I will try again and see if there is a flow . Both the food and service is on point at this restaurant. They were very friendly and helpful. Ordered spring rolls and cheese puffs for appetizers. Both were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls are ADDICTING LY delicious, filled with chicken. Ordered mongolian beef and crispy chicken and vegetables. Mongolian beef had very good flavor. The crispy chicken was a bit plain, but cooked perfectly juicy and tempura crispy also the waiter was very accommodating bringing some teriyaki sauce for dipping stepping it up perfectly. This visit was for restaurant week. The menu was a list of various Chinese dishes. It was served family style. The dishes came out one at a time with a long wait in between. Dishes were not served as described. After having waited one hour we were only halfway through the meal. The wait continued and we noticed the others whom were there for Restaurant week were being served the same way although not in the same order. In the meantime, 2 tables of diners got up and left, one after being totally ignored and the other not getting their food in a timely manner. Although we still had no received 2 of the dishes on the menu we could not wait any longer so we paid our bill and left. Terrible service and not very good food. This restaurant is located in Scottsdale Quarter and appears to be family owned. Me and my family decided to dine in on I believe was a Tuesday evening. There was not anyone in the restaurant although we had to wait shortly for a table to be cleaned and rearranged for us. The weird thing is that the seats were moved around for us to sit in the letter L shape and not face each other. It is four of us so it would have been better to sit across from each other. Also While waiting I noticed cartoons on the TV and a small child running around, it was a bit noisy. We promptly ordered and waited a short time for our dinner. The food started off good, with the shrimp tempura and the spring rolls being tasty. The spring roll was more of an egg roll because it had chicken. The garlic noodles with shrimp were yummy and my daughter enjoyed the Korean fried chicken but would have preferred the sauce on the side. The fried rice in my opinion tasted burnt and the Mongolian beef was different than expected. I would skip the beef and rice altogether looking back. Overall I do not think I would return due to it not being what I expected. If in a different location I may have given a higher rating, because, I was expecting a more high end experience. Just note that each dish came out one at a time and not together. This is essentially a tad bit above Panda Express. The family was pleasant and welcoming although this is not the spot for me. read more
