This is my favorite SIZZLER in the area. The staff is amazing. The salad bar is always well maintained.

8.6.15 We were pleasantly surprised to find the food to be better than we expected, and the service was great. I ordered the 6 oz. Sirloin Steak with Chicken Fettuccine and Mashed Potatoes. My "rare" steak ended up in between, "rare" and "medium rare", but that's ok, I prefer medium rare steak anyways. (Normally restaurants around here tend to overcook the meat; hence, why I decided to order a level down --- that's just my little tip.) Anyways, I thought the steak tasted simple and juicy, while my Chicken Fettuccine was bit mediocre. Because instead of linguine pasta, it came out as penne and the sauce seemed watery, like something you would expect from a Lean Cuisine frozen dinner box. At least the broccoli tasted fresh and not overcooked. Now the biggest disappointment came from the side of, "mashed potatoes" that looked AND tasted dry. In fact, it seemed like the took an ice cream scooper, hollowed out a cold baked potato, and placed in on my plate. Not even the side of goopy gravy could save it. Let's see... Their clam chowder tasted pretty good and it went heavenly with their complimentary Cheese Toast. The ones that ordered unlimited Crispy Shrimp seemed to enjoy it, commenting that they were, "bite-sized." However, it was a bit of a wait when one of them ordered another serving. So to wrap this all up: -Order a degree of doneness lower than preferred for steak -Just order a Baked Potato instead of mashed -Try out their Clam Chowder with their Cheese Toast -And if you get unlimited shrimp, order another serving ahead of time to shorten your wait read more

I like this Sizzler and if you don't then you must have a stick stuck up your ass. It's one of the better ones. The salad bar is magical. The vegetables grow right before your eyes and little elves carry the trays to your table. All in all, I will continue to visit this place and that's that. read more

First of all I know this is a veteran restaurant that has been here for years, obviously it is well established in Bakersfield. I'm on a diet so I have to watch what I eat. I knew there was a salad bar and once I saw it again I knew I was at the right place. Well priced from 2 to 5 there is a MiD-day Special where u can get 6 different items for 10 bucks, including Steak I had a delicious, custom salad made by me, and I cheated because I had to have a baked potatoe with everything. The waiter, or junior manager or super guy name Joe was all over the place making sure the restaurant was being ran smooth. I'm disappointed that this restaurant is cutting back on their salad bar. Today the spinach salad had very few almonds. The salad bar did not have dried cranberries or sunflower seeds. There aren't as many salads as there used to be three months ago. I'd rather be charged a dollar more and have a quality salad bar. read more

If I had to judge the food alone (excluding salad bar), I would have to say no stars. But because when I'm feeling like a salad all you can eat bar, then this is pretty much the only one in town. At least that I know of that also have clam chowder.. I've had their shrimp linguini before and it was horrible. Tasteless and bland. The sauce tasted like it was straight out of a cream of mushroom Campbell can. Not bad at all for the area. Was with a crew of non adventurous family who just wanted reasonably priced American food that wasn't fast food. Wish they had a menu of appetizers or sides. They let me order a side of steamed broccoli but I didn't know it was available from the menu. read more

Way better than the other one across town. Customer service was Excellent!! Food was great. Salad bar was nice and clean the food selection was awesome. Strawberries yummy. Our waitress - Ayari was super nice offered cheese toast right away and kept our table clean and drinks full. Manager on site very professional , checking making sure everything was going good. From the moment we walked in it was a bad experience. The cashier was rude and told us to go to the other cashier. What she wasn't aware of was the other young lady who was standing by the cash register was not taking orders, she was clocking in or whatever. So we lost our spot and had to get behind some other customers before we could place our order. When we received our food, we had to send our steaks back because they were not cooked right. This was disappointing because a restaurant specializing in steaks you'd think they would know how to properly cook a steak. This place deserves a zero star rating. Do not even think about asking the overly rude hostess if they offer a military discount! You will get a nasty attitude and then the manger and that hostess will point at you and laugh will you are eating in the dinning room. I am appalled at the behavior of the workers and the manager. We went to sizzler to celebrate a birthday, the manager Joe was very accommodating for our big party. Our server Michelle was so sweet and very attentive to our big party. Michelle and Joe both came out with an ice cream and a cake that we brought in and sang happy birthday. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Corn soup not hot, and was advertised as soup of the day. As for the desserts, they had no hot desserts up, and they had only one ice cream or frozen yogurt flavor. It took her a good while I was almost done with my food when she comes out with my melted butter I had asked for ......forgot to get my kids water cups the manager had to go get them .... Place was OK... This location did not have the variety of the salad bar on the East Side location... Also, they had to keep bringing you plates here, where at the East Side location the plates are at the salad bar itself... So if you want to go back for anything, you have to wait for your server to bring you a fresh plate... That got annoying... Wife had a steak (Cooked very nicely), Chicken, and Shrimp combo she seemed to enjoy for the most part... But service was slow... We had to wait for 15-20 mins for her food and then several minutes for soda refills or extra salad plates... I was hoping for a little more from this place... I can't believe I'm saying this... Over priced generic food that looked like a 3rd grade school experiment that went wrong, I couldn't believe I paid that much for garbage, I live down the block and drive about three to four miles to Outback Steakhouse, yesterday I saw sizzlers commercial on tv and went their, food was nasty, tables were sticky, price was outrageous. Advice save your money for a better place. I don't mind paying, but I do mind paying to much for garbage. read more

I hadn't been to a sizzler in about 5 years because the food was just terrible...so my kids went to have dinner there to give me another try.The restaurant looked totally different, larger, cleaner and a very pleasant atmosphere.The food we ordered was very good ,big improvement since I last ate there, my burger was excellent and the fries are the bomb fresh and hot..The thing I was very impressed about was the service we received from our waitress was very kind and attentive we didn't have to ask for anything. Just stopped with my family at what USED to be our favorite Sizzler. Never again! Bus full of French tourist came in after we ordered. ALL the tables were reserved for these people! No seats for us, so the waitress moved us to a reserved table. Immediately some skinny French woman came running over screaming at us for taking "there" table! The waitress ran her away from us before I slapped the crazy bitch! As I was getting my salad, another rude woman started pushing me out of her way! WTF? Hibachi chicken is always good, salad bar meh, wife had beef tips and mushrooms meh, strawberry lemonade was really good, bread pudding surprisingly is always amazing and of course the cheesy bread never disappoints read more

My experience was definitely a great family night with the kids at this restaurant. From the start the d cor of the restaurant was perfect for a family atmosphere. The servers where very attentive and made sure from the time we sat down tell the time that we left that everything was perfect. I myself ordered the steak cooked medium with fries and the texture was the way a steak should be along with the taste that just melted in my mouth. The speed of the service was fast and while waiting the manager by the name of Amanda came by to check how everything was going and to give the kids some crayons to color ( a big plus for me). It's not very often that a manager would stop at a table to check on things. All in all I gave this restaurant 5 stars because everything about my experience from the great service, great food and ice cream for the whole family will definitely be somewhere I will be bring my family to for many nights to come. read more

Not bad. Parking was abundant, the grounds / landscaping was clean and well maintained. There was no wait at 12:15 pm on a Friday. The cashier was friendly and efficient. The interior was slightly dated but clean and comfortable. The booth was clean and spacious. The food came out a little sooner then I expected and was prepared to my satisfaction. The waitress ensured our experience was good and was friendly. The biggest negative would be the location. The area around the restaurant was run down. Overall a good experience. read more

First off I always go here and today it was bad. The chicken was burnt, cold, really dried inside. The clam chowder was too cold and tasted like corn. The stake was really greasy. All the stuff in the headed bar food area was cold. The salad stuff looked wilted and dried. The mushrooms like like they were going really bad. The sodas was watered down and nasty, the Dr. Pepper tasted like diet coke. The mac and cheese had no flavor, not warm, and wasn't cooked all the way through. I've been to this location lots of times. Food was good but the service sucked!!!! I had to get up mutliple times to ask a waitress for more plates, cheese bread, and napkins all on separate occasions. It was very frustrating! Good variety of foods, friendly & attentive service, great place to go out to. I had the Trio (shrimp, chicken, steak) and the endless salad bar. The salad bar was good to start with. It had different salads, fruits, veggies, pudding, cottage cheese, tacos, onion rings, etc... The shrimp, chicken and steak were very good. I was satisfied and I think this is a good place to come. I got food poisoning yesterday and was sick all last night. Otherwise it was ok.

Two stars for being valentines and actually getting seated pretty quickly however the rest is downhill! The waitress brought out the wrong meal and it was impossible to get anyones attention to let them know. There were about 5 waitresses in my section and I couldn't get any of there attention. Two waitresses were walking around eating ice cream and sitting at tables and not cleaning them before they sat customers at those tables. They were talking loudly around customers and being rude. They brought us extra drink and food and just sat them at the empty seat assuming we had a third person (kinda weird) all together terrible customer service. Left a 5 dollar tip for the 1 waitress who was trying but couldn't keep up due to her terrible co-workers! The manager came out and watched his waitresses sitting leisurely eating among the guests and didn't care. Maybe I'm new at this but that is normally frowned upon anywhere! You aren't even aloud to do that at mcdonalds. And to top it all off I got sick when I got home. Not sure what's wrong with their food but something is not right!!! read more

Rare for me to review stuff on Yelp, but this place deserves a shout out! Prior to this visit, I hadn't been to Sizzler in over 25 years. That being said, I think I got lucky and found a gem. I ended up in Bakersfield after a long day of driving and needed some food and a break from the road. Saw the sign for Sizzler and thought, "why not". I've heard anecdotal stories about the terrible food and service over the years; and I'll even admit that I initially decided on eating at Sizzler in the hopes that I could come away with a hilarious story to share with my friends later on over a beer. Well, was I ever surprised! The restaurant has a "lobby" with a large menu on the wall. Okay, not really a lobby, more of just a wide hallway as you walk in. I spent probably 10 minutes staring at the menu trying to calculate how many different ways one can order steak, shrimp, and chicken. Reminded me of taco bell in that way - how many different menu items can you create with just beef paste, beans, lettuce, cheese, and a tortilla? Anyway, good move on the lobby menu as it keeps people like me out of the way from regulars who already know what they want to order. Moving further into the restaurant is the cashier where you place the order. The cashier was very sweet young lady who was well spoken with excellent manners. She answered all my questions (what does that meal include?, etc) and got me all set up with my order - a 6 oz steak MR, 6 fried shrimp, and broccoli for my side; iced tea to drink. I got seated and waited for my food. While I was waiting, my server stopped by to welcome me and let me know that my food was being prepared and that I could grab some soup in the meantime. Nice step up from the typical buffet service that I was expecting. Out of the 3 or 4 soup selections, I opted for the clam chowder and it wasn't bad. Better than average, but still foodservice soup-in-a-bag stuff. My server was attentive and brought out my food together with a refill for my iced tea just as soon as I finished my soup. The steak was cooked exactly to order, seasoned well, and was absent of any fat or gristle. The fried shrimp were fresh out of the fryer, still very hot, and perfectly golden brown. The broccoli was crisp tender and wasn't sitting in a pool of water on the plate. Superb! I ate everything on my place and my expectations were blown away. I worked fine dining in the past for several years and this is certainly not fine dining, but it is very good for what you're getting. The meat was tender, but not buttery smooth. The shrimp were those frozen pre-breaded foodservice products. The soup was pasty with modified food starch. That being said, the preparation was about as good as it could be with the ingredients that they have to work with. Overall, above average food for the price point served by a very friendly and well-trained staff. Oh, did I mention that there were a handful of televisions around that were showing a boxing match? Yeah, not bad. Would rather have watched a nature documentary or something, but "Boxing Azteca" is way better than The Bachelor. I was talking to a friend about my experience afterwards and they remarked that there are some of these "good Sizzlers" around. Apparently, I stumbled upon one of them. I'm told there is one somewhere in Sacramento that is also excellent. Maybe I'll seek that one out sometime. Anyway, next time I pass through Bakersfield, I'll be sure to keep this place in mind if I'm hungry. Thanks Sizzler - the food is pretty decent and the staff is great! read more
