You pick your table or booth, and the server checks your ticket, brings your drinks and cheese toast if you want (say yes to this). Food sometimes comes out quickly but slow during busy times. They also replace salad bar items regularly. They bring refills promptly most of the time. The vibe: A wide variety of people during the daytime but during weekends, noisy and crowded. lots of families with kids hanging near self serve ice cream and desserts. The clientele matches the overhead music from the 70's, 80's - and 90's. No Sza or Shaboozey here but you'll hear Earth, Wind, and Fire, and classic rock.During those decades, Sizzler was king of sit down restaurants but is still is popular here. We need to eat more fiber and whole foods to prevent diabetes and metabolic syndrome,. The prepared salads and desserts include imitation crab, cole slaw, macaroni, sliced peaches, jello, and spinach, my favorite. Some less healthy but popular options are fried chicken wings, spaghetti with turkey meatballs, tacos, and desserts. The steaks have improved since my last review, when now, even the sirloin is tender and juicy, thanks for obviously salt brining them (a technique used by all Chinese restaurants). I've grown to really like this place. As much as I like Pho, Italian, Japanese, and other foods, I love and miss the American food places. Not many of these left, the one I frequented in SGV as a kid shut down years ago. Didn't realize there was once so close to me in OC. Once in a while we just feel like reliving our youth with our daughter by going to establishments that were around in the 80's & 90's. This was a great example of one. This location was clean (as clean as a restaurant at this price range could be). The experience was just like I remembered, we looked over the menu on the wall and did our best memorize it as we walked to the register and repeat it. I was glad to see they had another laminated menu there, made it much easier to order without stretching my neck and looking right. IYKYK. The steak was cooked to a medium well as I request, it was nice a smoky just like I remembered. The shrimp we got was the small fried ones, it was mostly batter with a tiny shrimp inside. The best thing at sizzler of of course the "salad" bar where it was just endless amounts of American essentials, the do it yourself tacos that would make Mexican ancestors roll over in the resting place and weird yet oddly delicious fried chicken wings where the batter puffed up 1/4 inch from the actual wing. A couple long hard days helping a neighbor get settled back in, it's been 2 years since he's been home here in OC. We all decided on Sizzler it was an excellent choice. We got an early start, it was 4:30 when we pulled up. Friendly helpful Alex greeted us as we entered, this location is bright, colorful and sparkling clean. Tri Tips were our choices 2-8oz, 1-12 oz. w 3 salad bars. I found a booth with clear views of 2 large screen TVs. Gaby our waitress came over and introduced herself she was awesome, she brought us out our drinks and bread. The salad bar first, it was delicious, fresh cool crisp to many selections to describe all of our bowls were full. Our tri tips were out when we were finishing up our salads perfect timing by Gaby. Sizzlers tri tips were excellent and so tender cooked just the way we ordered them. Our baked potatoes were cooked to perfection butter, sour cream, chives id give them a 10. It was a perfect combination, tri tips, salad and delicious bread. We capped off our feast with soft serve ice cream and a chocolate fudge brownie. We called around all afternoon on Xmas day and most restaurants were closed. Someone finally answered the phones at Sizzler! We knew it would be crowded there since they are one of the few restaurants that were open but didn't realize how long the line was. Salad bar is always super fresh and good. Many choices. Several varieties of soups. They also have the taco bar but I hardly even touch it. Too much foods and usually already full by the time I finish my salad. Steak is okay. While on a weekend vacation in Irvine I went to my trusty yelp app to find dinner plans for my party of 12. I was happy to inform everyone that I found a sizzler near our hotel. Pretty much everyone in my party is a fan of the franchise and we relish the opportunity to dine at a sizzler in the city that we're visiting. Our server for the night was a terrific waiter by the name of Tim, who was an absolute pleasure. He was professional, very polite, very attentive and all-around amazing at his job. He had to take care of our table which consisted of 12 people and a nearby table with 10+ guest and he didn't skip a beat. All of the food was great. From the double Malibu chicken to the ribs, the perfectly made steaks, the burgers, the chicken tenders as well as the salad bar. And the customer service, thanks to Tim was spectacularly superb. I've always enjoyed Sizzler, and while there aren't many left, this Lake Forest location really stands out. I'm not sure how recently it was remodeled, but you can definitely tell it's been updated--much more modern and well-kept than others I've visited. The space is clean, inviting, and clearly cared for. The salad bar was fresh and spotless, and the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, including the other guests. Sizzler that we grew up with in the 90s is having a revival but with a much more limited salad bar, fruit and hot food selection, but it hits the spot when all you want is a tasty salad and some small bites plus some solid dessert including some great soft serve. You pay in the beginning before you sit, I wasn't given the option to tip with card so I wasn't able to tip the server because I didn't have cash. But now there are just a lot fewer Sizzlers around, and with the Souplantation chain killed by the pandemic, one does reminisce about good ol' sizzlers. And this was how we decided to come check out this location, after reading the other great reviews. I have to say, the steak tasted better (e.g. tenderer and juicer) than it looked, and the ribs were good too. The kids enjoyed the salad bar, particularly the ice cream -- though one of them had stomachache afterward and it's unclear whether it was the ice cream or not. Just ordered from here after a long hiatus... eating the food reminded me why I havent eaten here in so long. I ordered the Trio which consists of a 6 oz tri tip sirloin, a malibu chicken and 4 fried shrimps. I got rice pilaf with it and paid extra for sauteed mushrooms since they looked good in the pics on Yelp. It also came with a lemon slice, some kind of mustardy aoili and a slice of cheese bread. I also paid extra to upgrade the 6 oz steak to a 8 oz one. This was one of the worst steaks I have ever had. It was about 3 inches wide an inch thick and rare/purple (I ordered medium rare). It was unbelievably hard to cut it. It had a tube or line of sinew running right down the middle, making about an inch un-cuttable and inedible. It had no flavor at all. No seasoning, didnt take salt or pepper even. The mushrooms looked exactly like they did in the photos, but they were bleh. They were cooked ok but were drenched in a grease that coated my mouth and the only way to get rid of the nasty feeling was to brush my teeth. The Malibu Chicken was about 60% ok. The outside edges were so overcooked they were rock hard. I worried about cracking a tooth. The Shrimp were fine, but a mustard dipping sauce?!?! The Cheese Bread was unforgettable. I used to look forward to this but now its just meh. The Rice Pilaf was the only good thing on the whole plate. Sizzler was good decades ago for what you paid and how much you got. Then it went downhill when they changed everything up. They made a brief comeback about 10 years ago when they switched to Tri Tips and were cooking them on the grill they had outdoor. Now its back to the run of the mill steaks that should be used for ground beef, not as a "tri tip sirloin". I wont be back. Too many chances and too many fails. Sizzler should be ashamed to take $40 from people for that garbage. read more
