Came here on a Thursday evening as a party of three and the ordering/seating procedure was a bit unclear because we were not greeted or instructed of anything when we initially came in. They had two doors for entry and I think there was a sign on the other side that states what to do but we had not entered through that side, though it was the first time we came so I suppose it was our mistake? Nonetheless, someone eventually came to help us and so we ordered our food and sat down. I got the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice dish and a side of takoyaki. Frankly speaking, I think that the food here is very mediocre. The curry itself was not that flavorful and there was very little of it honestly. Considering how dry the Katsu was and how much rice was in the serving, I feel like I needed more curry to balance it out. What saved the dish was their garlic shouyu though, which added some more needed flavor. Their takoyaki was nice and soft, not crispy on the outside though. Also, I was just really craving takoyaki so I got it but the price of $8 for only 6 rather small portions is a bit much in my opinion. Would I come here again? Maybe, but I would try something else. I understand that there's soy sauce and stuff on the table, but at the end of the day, this is a deconstructed fried rice and you can get much tastier fried rice elsewhere. - The Takoyaki was room temperature when it came out to me. This dish would also be much better with larger katsuobushi. If they do use larger katsuobushi, the Takoyaki needs to be hot so that the flakes can react to the heat - The Chicken Wings were good. Great spot when craving hot plate meals (meat cooks on a hot stone plate), or as well with large groups (they're one of the few spots in South Bay that can fit 10+ people at most times). My default is to get beef udon and add on mushrooms/kimchi as toppings (don't forget to check in for a free topping), but the curry beef udon, and the rice options are great as well! They do have a tofu pepper rice for vegetarians, cost for most items is about $13-15/plate. Pretty good value for the portion size, and you can top off the dish with garlic shoyu and teriyaki sauce (which I drizzle a lot of in my plates) Great option in Cupertino, and I'd say it's better value than Pepper Lunch in Milpitas! read more

Gotta add that cuz I'm pretty sure other reviewers have mentioned that and I'll add on to that search hehe. I went for their curry beef udon ($13) with a $1 add on for egg and .50 add on for garlic sauce. Yeah, I prefer udon over rice but I think that rice def would be better to try next time... why? Haha even with the sauce, the meal as a whole is well under-salted. Missing a good chunk of flavor in there. The beef helps a bit to subside some of that missing flavor, but the ratio is off. Their dish is pretty big and actually had way more udon that I expected, which is part of the reason. Add their chili powder that they have, and have at it. That part is really good and I actually added a lot to get that flavor in there. Comes already with corn as well, so no need to add unless you need more haha. Service is decent. The restaurant looks like it can fit a lot and they have two entrances - walk towards the register and someone (should) help you find a seat. I love this place. It's not fancy, but it's so delicious and dependable. You know what you're going to get when you come here. It's also super reasonably priced and you get a large portion. The service is pretty basic, because the servers only have to take your order, bring some water, and then drop off food that you ultimately mix and season yourself and "cook" to a certain extent. I also like that they don't blink twice when you arrive with a large group, they just move some tables together. My favorite default meal is the garlic pepper beef with an extra egg. I've never tried the udon, but I like that it's an option if I'm feeling noodle-y. We were seated right away. We ordered: Beef udon: 4/5 similar to Pepper lunch, but less flavor. Grab that bottle of garlic sauce and pour that baby over your food and you will be good to go. Kimchi beef on rice: 3/5 similar to the above, but I way prefer udon to the rice for this type of dish. Chicken cutlet curry on rice: 2/5 I recommend skipping this one. The fried cutlet was soft since it was drenched in the curry sauce. The curry sauce itself was nothing special. Service was good. Food came out in a timely manner. Came here around lunch time on a Sunday and parking was easy to find. My boyfriend and I didn't have to wait for a table. However, we were seated without menus. Probably about 10 minutes after, the host or server noticed that we didn't have menus. I ordered the Beef Udon and my boyfriend ordered the Garlic Beef Pepper Rice. Extremely disappointed here tonight as I decided to come celebrate Mother's Day with 2 of my kids here. We arrived here 20 minutes before closing. The hostess told me she'd have to ask the manager if she could seat us but we would at least be able to get take out. We were disappointed but were willing to accept it. Starting off, as soon as you walk in there you'll come to realize that this establishment is quite big allowing more people to be seated and served. Not only do they also have their name outside the building, but inside as well, along with a cute little step by step guide on "How-to-eat". On to the menu, they made it very easy to follow by categorizing types of sizzling plates: Rice, Noodles and Curry. I found this especially useful since they included photos of the food itself to appeal to those that choose by plating. Where I rate them for their 5 stars is the timely manner it took them to get us our food. I'm very much a patient person and don't mind conversing while the food is prepped, but they got our meals to us before we could even come to a full discussion. But when I do, they have a fire Garlic Shoyu (Soy Sauce) that enhances the flavor. I ordered the Beef Pepper Rice ($13) and added 2 eggs for $2. The food came out pretty quick and probably less than 5 minutes. The food by itself tasted good, but I tried the teriyaki sauce as well as the garlic shoyu sauce at our table. The teriyaki sauce was your typical teriyaki sauce and nothing special. The garlic shoyu sauce was better and added a little bit more flavor. The service was good until it got busy and that's when there was a lot of waiting (specifically for the check). I think once they've been open for more than a few months, I would think that shouldn't be an issue going forward. You basically just cook your own meat and eat at your own risk...depending on how cooked your meat is. I like their chicken curry udon more cuz the meat sometimes cook too quick and it ends up being too crispy/cooked for my liking. The chicken is already cooked by the time it gets to you so all you have to do is add some garlic ponzu sauce over it, mix it all up, and on nom nom! Pretty big restaurant with lots of seats. Then after eating a few bites you realize this is just like any other meat dish over rice. I read a lot of the reviews for Sizzling Lunch before coming here and doing my own taste test. So I was aware of what I signed up for. Many reviews compared Sizzling Lunch to Pepper Lunch in Milpitas, and Pepper Lunch was the clear winner. BUT, I live closer to Cupertino and I always love trying out new restaurants anyway. This restaurant is HUGE with lots of seating options, so I doubt there will ever be as long of a wait for Pepper Lunch. We ordered the: Takoyaki (4/5 - not enough bonito flakes!) Double Hamburg with Rice w/ Egg + Curry (asked for it on the side) (2/5 - I could probably make this at home... nothing special) Garlic Pepper Beef Rice (3/5 but maybe a 4/5 after you add the garlic shoyu sauce) TLDR; Yes, believe the reviews. Pepper Lunch is way better due to taste and price, however Sizzling Lunch has HUGE portions that could last for two meals (!!). But, if you live close to Cupertino and don't want to make the drive to Pepper Lunch, this should satisfy your stomach for the time being. read more

Sizzling Lunch seemed similar to Pepper Lunch, so thought I would give this place a try. Since I always get the Beef Yakiniku at Pepper Lunch, I got the Garlic Beef Pepper Rice here for comparison. Sizzing Lunch is more 3.5 for me, but I rounded down mostly for the following reasons: 1) The moment you take a bite, you immediately know that there's a lot of butter in this. 2) The rice/plate and meat itself, doesn't actually have a lot of flavor unless you had a lot more of the sauce on the table. I had expected much more garlic flavor to this, but just got a lot of butter instead. Don't get me wrong, butter is still and always is tasty, but that can't be the sole basis to why this place is good. Overall, it's a decent lunch place. Tasty, spacious, and quick with wait times. I wouldn't mind coming back here to eat again, but nothing that I'd write home about. read more

Food was okay. The customer service wasn't the best unfortunately & on top of that we came during happy hour and did not get the discount applied... Good portion and priced plates. Seating was a little odd because they ask you to order ahead of time at the door upon entering (which took a while and the line was growing), but I guess this is the COVID era. I have tried some places similar to Sizzling Lunch, but not Sizzling Lunch exactly and it did not disappoint. Food came out quick and service was excellent. The waiter cracked my egg in my sizzle plate right in front of me. Restaurant was very clean and provided Clorox (not some cheap brand) at every table. The staff came by occasionally to make sure everything was going okay. Food was good, but I felt like if I didn't have any add ons (excluding the sauce that was provided on the table), it's be a bit bland for me. I added on an egg and cheese for an additional charge on my beef and rice sizzling plate. My only real complaint would be because we ordered at the door, they forgot my sweet potato fries order. I was so caught up in enjoying the company I was with that I forgot about it. And as soon as I realized when I got home, they closed. Now it's weird to bring up food they forgot the day before.
