Shrimp ($20.33) - 49ers (Thick Sauce, Little sweet, Garlicky and very Flavorful), Very Spicy
    Elena N.

Date: Friday, January 17th, 2025 Meal: Late Lunch / Early Dinner Delivery Time Ordered: around 4:15pm Time Delivered: around 5pm How Ordered: DoorDash Neighborhood Delivered to: Evergreen *Shrimp ($20.33) - 49ers (Thick Sauce, Little sweet, Garlicky and very Flavorful), Very Spicy *Frozen Crawfish ($18.93) - Very Spicy, House Special (Thick Sauce, Finger lickin ' good with our secret Ingredients infused with Garlic Butter) *Manila Clam ($20.33) - Shambalang (Little salty and sweet infused with Lemon Slices), Very Spicy I crave a good crawfish boil often. In SF, there aren't many options, so I tend to fulfill that craving when in SJ. I was on my own Fri afternoon and decided to DD some seafood in a bag. (When with the hubby or bro-in-law, I tend to avoid cajun spots as they aren't really big fans.) My fav sauce was the house special as it was the least sweet. I'm really into salty, garlicky, with a spicy punch in the face. The 49ers was pretty good as well, tho sweeter than I prefer. I know the shambalang is a recommended sauce, but it just wasn't my style. I want the savory and heat without too much sweetness. It was nice trying the three different sauces tho. I did end up mixing them all together in the end, which ended up being a nice combo. Each bag had a good amount of seafood. The shrimp were plump, the clams not too shell heavy, the frozen crawfiish on the smaller side, but a plenty, I like trying new crawfish places, so glad I sampled this one. Tho price wise, I'd say on DD, there are cheaper spots. Especially during their HH. REVIEW #3681

It was my first crawfish experience and I loved it! The sauce was bomb! Very low key spot.

Visited this seafood boil spot after a workout and was not disappointed . It was 5 pm on a Sunday and we were seated immediately. The service was fine and we decided to split a combo 2 (between 2 people), plus garlic noodles. Everything was so good and altogether was more than enough food. Beware as the price of some seafood items are market-dependent, overall when I went it felt like it was worth it.

    Closed permanently :(

Very sad this place got closed. We've been eating here for a long time and I loved that there's no wait. Their crawfish is better than Boiling Crab (even though we had a few bad batches before). Very unfortunate! We need to find a new place for crawfish now (not Boiling Crab)

Overall a solid place to get seafood boil, but not a place I'd go out of my way for. My friend and I shared Combo 3, which had 2 lbs of crawfish, 1 lb of shrimp, 2 potatoes, 2 corn, and 4 sausage. This was the perfect amount for us to share! We tried out the 49ers sauce, which was packed with garlic! Though it was advertised as sweet, it was actually quite savory and buttery. Pretty tasty! The shrimp was top notch! Cooked perfectly and they were juicy. However, the crawfish was just okay to me. Some were pretty big in size, but most were very small and possibly frozen (?)

This place used to be a solid 5 stars for me!! Throughout time, it's slowly decreased due to SJ Crawfish cutting corners and/or them serving not so quality foods. With today's purchase, it only solidifies SJ continuing to plummet overall.... My guy decided he wanted crawfish to celebrate Father's Day and we made sure to call in advance to confirm the business having LIVE, FRESH crawfish. I ordered in advance for take out and was told the food would be ready within minutes. 4lbs of crawfish & 2lbs of shrimp later... we are left with a handful of dead crawfish. Now, I get that things happen and not all crawfish can be guaranteed to be fresh BUT!!! This is unfortunately the 2nd time we've had take out where the same exact thing happened. When we dined in, this was not a problem. 1 star because there seemed to be some shady stuff going on. I'd recommend dining in so a fast one isn't being pulled on you and in case you happen to come across this same situation, bringing it to the staffs attention is so much easier.

Decent place for seafood boil. I prefer my sauce thick, but thought this one was little on the watery side. Still had a nice flavor though. Service is okay, and inside ambiance is okay as well.

My bf and I LOOOOVE coming here for seafood boil. The service is fast and our order always comes out right. We usually get combo 2 with their House Special sauce spicy. If you order the Cajun fries, ask for them well done!! They came out perfectly crispy with a good amount of Cajun seasoning. The restaurant has many tables for customers and there is usually no wait. It is very clean and well organized. Each table has butcher paper, utensils, and napkins.

SJ Crawfish has been my go-to spot since I was first introduced to crawfish here when I was younger, and I still keep coming back! Their SJ Style sauce is the OG, perfectly garlicky, buttery, and soup like sauce you can sip on. No matter how many other seafood boil places pop up, nothing hits quite like this. I also love that it's a family-owned business with some of the friendliest owners around. They always make you feel welcome, and you can tell they take pride in what they serve. The best part? It's usually not too crowded, which means faster service and fresh, hot seafood every time. If you're a crawfish lover or just looking for a solid seafood boil spot in San Jose, SJ Crawfish is definitely worth checking out!

Delicious seafood boil without the wait! We were able to walk in on a Friday night. SJ Crawfish has a lot of seating and they turn over tables efficiently. The crawfish were some of the largest I've ever seen. We ordered 1lb crawfish and 2lb shrimp but I saw on the menu that there are special combos such as Combo #3 (2lb crawfish,1lb shrimp, 2 corn, 2 potato, 4 sausage) for only $40.99. For the sauces we tried the House Special and the Shambalang. The House Special was my favorite out of the two since it was super garlicky and buttery. I didn't like the Shambalang because it just tasted like mostly lemon to me. WARNING: the spicy is actually pretty dang spicy. I was definitely sweating. I will be back to see if I like any of the other flavors!

I didn't know that you could call for a reservation, or get on their waitlist with Yelp. I was going to do my order to go, when I was asked if I wouldn't mind sitting at the bar. Not at all. I was seated right away, and I was helped by Allison, who was also tending bar. She was a very nice lady, and she took very good care of me. The restaurant has. A nautical theme to it. I decided to go with the Cajun chowder, and the softshell crab po' boy. . My food comes quickly, and the order was huge! It was a very good, rich chowder, with just a tiny bit of a "zip" from the Cajun spices. They definitely gave it a good flavor. There were lots of goodies inside. The one thing about the chowder, was they didn't take out the bay leaves, and I did get a couple.. I just put them off to the side. I'm not going to take off a star, because the chowder was so good. Hey, It happens.... The po' boy was huge! The softshell crab was not over breaded. I could taste the crab with no problem, and it was a little bit sweet, a little bit savory, with that wonderful "crabby" flavor. The roll was a soft roll, , but it still held up to the sandwich extremely well The lettuce, and tomato were crisp and fresh . The Cajun fries, had a little bit of a zip to them, but not too much. they came with ketchup, and their house Cajun sauce. I didn't even touch the ketchup. The sandwich already had some Cajun sauce on it, I put a little bit more. The rest, I used to dip the fries. I only made it halfway through the sandwich, and the fries. The rest came back to my room with me for another great meal. I also got another little "tub" of that sauce to take with me. The entire time, Alison was so personable, , we chatted a little bit about this and that... She is definitely an asset to that restaurant. (Tell her boss to give her a raise...:). The price was extremely reasonable for such a wonderful meal, and they also have a military/veterans discount this was such a great meal, I would gladly come back here again. Thank you so very much

After today's visit, though... I finally understand why the second location closed. Ordered: Shackie's Sauce (Hot) Shrimp & Mussels Combo Snow Crab Clusters Garlic Noodles Garlic Fries The seafood boil was nowhere near the quality it used to be. The corn tasted old, the shrimp and snow crab didn't taste fresh, and the snow crab clusters had barely any meat. By the time I cracked everything open, it felt like there was more shell than seafood. The mussel shells even had barnacles on them, which I've never seen here before. It made the seafood feel like it hadn't been cleaned as well as it should have. The garlic fries were crispy, but that's it. It was weird--I could see the garlic and was literally eating it, yet there was no garlic flavor. The garlic noodles used to be one of my favorite items because they were bold and packed with garlic. Now they've definitely toned the flavor down, and they're just not the same anymore. It's honestly disappointing because this place used to be one of my favorite seafood spots. We went in at 9 pm on a Friday night with a group of eight of us. Please note that the restaurant is tiny so it did take sometime while we waited for our table, but we did not wait too long. There was plenty of parking spots in the plaza and the restaurant was a little loud, but it was a small place for a bunch of people dining in on a late evening. The service was great. They were checking in whenever we were ready to order and answering all of our questions. Because our group was so large, we did have to squish into a small table, but it did not make the food any less delicious. They had a special where we could choose 4 pounds of any types of shrimp, mussels, crawfish, clam. This was a great deal, and I wish I knew to order more. Once we were finished with this 4 pounds... We ordered some more. I believe we ordered with the Louisiana sauce at medium and it was to die for. We also tried the sweet California, but I thought it was just OK. To be honest, it was a little bit too sweet for me, but everyone's taste differ. We also ordered the basil clams and they were also delicious but they did come pretty late into a meal. My friends that don't eat seafood, enjoyed the lamb chops, the chicken wings, the garlic noodles and some other dishes. All in all, I would definitely recommend coming here. It's a great spot to enjoy with friends and I am so grateful that it was open late night. I am already thinking about the next time I come to visit San Jose to eat some more.

The garlic noodles are very homey and uniquely Vietnamese. They remind me a lot of my mom's cooking. I don't recommend the crawfish right now because they were so small and overcooked. However the shrimp was plump and sweet, so I wish we got more of that instead. There were a bunch of empty shells in our bag because the actual mussels fell out. It's very crowded seating inside the restaurant. Parking is easy at night but during the day, the plaza is extremely crowded.

We arrived on a Saturday evening for dinner. The restaurant is located in a nice newer plaza area in Cupertino off the Vallco Parkway close to where Vallco Shopping Mall once stood. Parking is available in the parking garage in the plaza. The restaurant is medium size but maximizes the space efficiently with plenty of booths and tables for dine in. The modern decor is nice and sleek. Whereas the vibe is bustling and welcoming. We ordered the combo of 2 pounds of shrimp with heads on, garlic noodles, and 2 steamed rice. The seafood boil came out in a large silver bowl instead of the usual large clear bag. I found this to be much better in presentation. Everything was so delicious. The captain Loui sauce was so flavorful and sweet. The shrimp were plump and juicy. Garlic noodles were tasty. A couple of saucy yummy corn and potato were found in the bowl which was a good surprise. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Cap't Loui. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The combo options were a great deal. Free Ice cream popsicles for dessert were a nice surprise at the end. We will definitely be back as their seafood boil is one of the better options in the South Bay.

Pretty small inside, but enough room for a large party, if need be. Pricing for sea food & options, are pretty decent & the taste of the food is yummy, I think it's like the rest of the Seafood Boil Establishments, but every place has their own unique flavor.

Here's a version that keeps the disappointment clear without sounding like you're just ranting:…read more My wife and I used to be loyal Kickin' Crab customers before we moved to the city, so I was really looking forward to having it again. Unfortunately, today's experience was nowhere near what we remembered. We ordered a pound of king crab, snow crab & shrimp, and snow crab with Cajun fries -- definitely not a cheap order. We were also told we couldn't order or pay over the phone because of the cost, which was already a little frustrating. But the food was the real disappointment. The sauce was extremely watered down, to the point that the seasoning wouldn't even stick to the shrimp, crab, potatoes, or corn. The crab itself was flimsy and somehow tasted dry like it wasn't fresh, and several of the claws had little to no meat in them. Being a pescatarian, and I can honestly say I've never thrown away a pound of king crab until today. For what king crab costs, that says everything. We used to love this place, which is why this experience was especially disappointing.

This time we ordered combo #3 with the snow crab legs and 2 lbs of shrimp, and 1 lb of mussel. They were out of clams but it was okay. The sauce and the flavor were superb and everything was cooked to perfection in the kickin sauce, mild. My friend whose favorite is boiling crab, really liked this place. Staff actually came around to check on us and to refill our waters. It's been pretty slow every time I come in here but there's plenty of tables to choose from and sit at. They still play some really good music and it's a vibe. Still one of my all time favorite places to eat.

This visit, my husband and I ordered the crawfish pasta and the jambalaya. We also got the shrimp po'boy to go for my in-laws to try. The crawfish pasta was delicious and had a fair crawfish to pasta ratio (like 5 pasta shells to each crawfish bite, which is perfect for me as I was craving pasta that week). We also got drinks which was an interesting ordering experience since you have to order and pay at the bar before you get to the register where you can order your food. I think the bartender did a good job managing the crowd and checking in as best as she can to make sure people got their drink orders in! Jambalaya was flavorful (and I got it again on my next visit so I was def happy with it). No A/C inside and only fans which was rough after this particularly hot heat wave of a week we had. Outdoor was vibey if you were able to secure a spot. They had a live band playing so we were not able to secure a spot in that area. We decided to stay indoors where we were able to eventually cool down with our drinks. I can absolutely see this as a spot we go to before and after games. Already thinking about the next time we go with our friend group. And I'm noting that there's a speakeasy underneath I want to check out!

Unfortunately, I was disappointed with both the Jambalaya and the Red Beans & Rice. Both dishes were surprisingly bland and lacked the depth of flavor I was expecting. The jambalaya was missing the bold, layered seasoning and richness that normally makes this dish so satisfying. The Red Beans & Rice was similarly underwhelming...very mild and without enough seasoning or complexity to bring everything together. I really wanted to enjoy the food, but both dishes fell flat for me. When I think of Cajun and Creole-inspired food, I expect bold, savory flavors with plenty of character, and unfortunately this DoorDash order missed the mark. If you're craving red beans and rice and don't have the time to make it at home, make the trip to The Bywater in Los Gatos. Or, if you just want a punch of flavor... go to Popeyes. LOL. Honestly, either would satisfy the craving more.
