Food was ok so I'll start with that. We were profiled at the door, I guess we didn't look rich enough, perhaps old enough. We were sat at the bench they have for those parties they don't care for. There was a huge deer skin thing hanging on the bench, which I hadn't noticed until I realized I was covered in hair.
I called a waiter passing by and I asked "I'm sorry, can this be moved?", I believe he didn't understand me, because he approached the table, pet the deer and pretentiously replied "Deer. Is there a problem?", so I repeated myself and he picked it up a little and threw the part hanging on me over the bench's backrest. I don't eat meat, so the irony of me being sat where there was dead deer skin is unbelievable, but whatever, I didn't make a big deal out of it like I probably should have considering this is beyond disgusting to have near plates of food and so risky for the owner considering there is always allergy concerns because after all, it is animal hair. But we are in the industry so we decided to just roll with it. I had deer hair everywhere, our backs where covered with deer hair, our napkins on our laps, and of course we ended up having deer hair on our plates too because where else can it go? We didn't even say anything, we tried to eat in peace.
Our server saw the situation and not once she approached us to ask what happened or how we were doing. Of course not, we were the ones inconveniencing them since we weren't rich enough to "enjoy" animal skin all over our dinner table. She knew the menu, but she wasn't friendly at all. Again, that whole profile thing. I tried to be friendly and even mentioned we were in the industry, but she couldn't care less. We did see her chatting other tables away, so I guess it was indeed personal. We still tipped 15% because we're in the industry.
The food: I ordered a caprese salad they had on special with some special mozzarella- the tomatoes were so mushy! That's when I understood why it was on special- they needed to get rid of said tomatoes. The mozzarella was small balls and super dry. And the basil? I can julienne better. The mushroom crepe was good, nothing to write home about, it lacked flavor or salt or both. My bf had the smoked deer heart, he said it was ok. He also had the steak, he said it was cooked perfectly at the temperature he requested, it was sous vide, but the ratio of complements on the plate was off on the small side, and no you can't order sides à la carte. We told the server right away we wouldn't be drinking because we were passing by on our way to climb Mt. Whitney, however we ordered two large bottles of sparkling water (which would have been the same amount had we ordered two drinks), and needless to say, but we had to pour our own water the whole night. I mean, I thought they are high end?
The place is overpriced, you're looking to spend $100 for 2 and up. read more
