Our favorite restaurant is back in Mammoth and did not disappoint! The new location is very comfortable and the food was fabulous as always! I had the scallops which were excellent! I went there last night and it was fantastic. My first time there but I wanted to try it based on yelp reviews. It is hands down the best food in mammoth. I was greeted at the door by the chef and owner, Ian who is very welcoming. The restaurant is very very small and cozy. There are only about 4 tables plus small bar area so you need a reservation. A very creative and eclectic menu. My only issue is that most everything is meat and while this is great with me, I don't know if there are enough options for my wife who is vegetarian. Unexpectedly good food in Mammoth, which isn't a fine dining mecca. We had a delightful meal here and cannot fault the service or food. My only complaint is that the ventilation system is sorely lacking. We enjoyed our meal in a haze of seared salmon and returned home absolutely stinking. This is a gem in Mammoth Lakes. Ideally would have voted 4.5 stars. The chef/owner really puts effort into each dish and it shows. Super nice staff - there are 4 bar seats, a few tables to the side of the kitchen area, 3 tables on a second floor with great view of the entire place and a separate room that is part of a recent expansion. We received a txt 45 min before our reservation time that our table would be ready, which was so perfect. We took the quick 7 minute walk (from Westin Monache) and the place was an easy find. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Started with foie gras and trout. Both btw are cold appys. The trout was well marinated and salted with side of beets and veggies to add a nice crunch. The foie gras was flavorful. Don't forget the warm bread with softened (slightly) buttered that is delicious as well. We had the scallop entree to share ($4 additional charge for split entrees just a heads up and the meal is presented on two separate plates. No fighting now!) and this is a must try. So so tender and crisp on the outside and almost melt in your mouth to each bite on the inside. The sauce and broccoli is perfect and we got to dip some bread into the sauce. Went well with my glass of Sauvignon Blanc (2013 White Oak). Creme brûlée for dessert - it was super duper buttery and wasn't quite as settled as I would have liked but none the less very enjoyable with cute tree and deer cookies on top. Parking easily available outside. Super close to mammoth village and all the shops. I can't say the appetizers were the best we've had, and that left me debating between 4 vs 5 stars. I didn't want to be the one to give the first non-5 stars though (this is a very unique establishment and we really applaud the owner for his efforts. He made a point to talk to several tables while we were there... Not us unfortunately but he was probably being polite and didn't want to interrupt our meal and running a restaurant is tough work!) and I think ratings (in general) can be open for interpretation. I didn't try the other items on the menu although if I stayed longer in the area I'm certain I would've gone back and given the other dishes a try and maybe that would have made it a solid 5 for me. Bottom line is, this is one of the few places of this caliber in the area in terms of food and service. It's definitely worth to try and see for yourself!! read more

This place legitimately deserves the 5 star rating. There are REALLY limited options in Mammoth, and to be honest, most of the restaurants there are decent at best, and everything is wayyyy overpriced. Skadi is wonderful, and not just compared to the rest of Mammoth restaurants -- I'm from LA, so I have a better frame of reference than just Mammoth cuisine, and I had one of the best meals I've had in years (in LA or anywhere) at Skadi. The place is tiny but beautiful, very clean, very Scandinavian style. The servers are very professional and attentive, and no detail is overlooked. They have an open kitchen so you can see the chef working his magic. What we ate: Mushroom soup to start (so amazing, we literally licked the bowl) Salmon (delicious and cooked PERFECTLY) Pork belly (also wonderful) Lemon panna cotta (tangy and tasty) Skadi may seem pricy, but it's funny, because if you look at the other "trendy" restaurants in Mammoth, you'll notice the entrees there are maybe $5 cheaper, and the cuisine you're getting is amateur compared to Skadi. If you're eating out in town and you appreciate wonderful food made with impeccable attention to detail, you gotta go to Skadi. NOTE: This is not a place to bring your little kids or a large group looking to get rowdy. This is ideal for a date night or dinner with a small group of friends (they have one table on a loft which looks like it seats maybe 8 max). The ambiance, menu, and service is geared towards adults who want to have a quiet relaxed meal with good food and good wine. NOTE: Reserve way ahead. We got VERY lucky because there was a last-minute 9:30pm cancellation and I texted to request to be put on a waiting list for cancellations. I can't say enough about this meal and experience. My girlfriend and I were traveling through the area for a few days and I was happy to get a last minute reservation. We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen, the experience, service and food were second to none. This is a "get of the doghouse" or special occasion place for sure. Prices were a great value for the experience. We had the Duck, Pork Belly, seasonal beet soup, foie gras, vanilla parfait, panna cotta...basically half of the menu...all were amazing. Where do I start? That was at the very least, the best meal I have had since my honeymoon. It was possibly the best meal I have ever had in my entire life The restaurant is gorgeous, with an open kitchen, modern clean but also warm and inviting with a touch of ski lodge. The hamachi was butter. The venison was cooked perfectly rare. The duck, my god the duck, was the most delicious duck I have ever had, with perfectly crispy skin and moist melt-in-my-mouth flesh. Dessert (Meyer lemon panna cotta and macadamia nut and vanilla bean parfait) was fantastic, and Chef Ian had some fantastic little extras for us. The wine list is full of reasonable but incredible wines. We had a crisp brut rose, a Pinot rose which was delicious with the smallest hint of residual sugar, a very amazing Zinfandel recommended by Chef, and a late harvest Viognier with caramel and fig. We had a wonderful meal here while in town for the 4th. The food was innovative and delicious, and the service was fantastic. But I want to especially commend the staff on their COVID-19-related safety protocols. There was a disinfecting station at the front of the restaurant with sanitizer and disposable masks for those who didn't have them. We received little pouches for our masks so we wouldn't have to put them on the table, which I thought was a nice touch. The menus were disposable, and the payment process was contactless. And I did hear a staff member remind a gentlemen to put his mask back on when moving through the restaurant, which I appreciated. I know how hard it is to have to remind guests who aren't following safety protocols, and I appreciate the staff for being willing to do so. This was the best dining experience I have had in years...yes, years. Not only is Ian (the head chef) an incredible chef, but he has hand selected the best staff as well. My husband and I felt pampered from the moment we walked through the doors. We sat at a great little table next to the door and after about ten minutes the staff noticed that I had put my down jacket back on to stay warm so they approached us and asked if we would like to move to a warmer table. I was shocked and so grateful that they would go so far out of their way, without my having a say a word. My husband had the duck and I ordered the salmon, both were excellent. We shared a bottle of wonderful italian wine but were too full to try any dessert. Ian made my wedding cake though so I know what this man is capable of, and if you ever get the chance to try his carrot cake, it is the best I have ever had. This was a five-star dining experience and we will be going back many more times this season. read more

Exquisite! Not a word I use a lot, especially for food, but I felt compelled to use that as my answer when asked by the amazingly attentive staff how our courses and wines were. The wine selection is well done, and we could tell our server was well versed in the wines available. We couldn't refuse the first course special of the evening: gnocchi with asparagus and morels. We ask had the smoke trout starter, and for the mains the duck (out of this world) and salmon (exceptional!). Desserts - chocolate taster and the gateau financier - were the perfect way to end our experience, with wonderful dessert wines to match. My family tried Skadi based on the excellent Yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint. The food, ambiance, location, staff and wine selection were excellent. I've dined at some of the best restaurants in New York, London, Las Vegas, Sydney and Los Angeles and this had to be one of my top 5 memorable food experiences. We were able to get a table on the busy MLK weekend through a last minute cancellation. Our server Jon greeted us at the door and explained Skadi's concept and menu, he was very knowledgable about every dish, as well as wine pairing. We started with the mushroom crepés, and smoked trout. They were both delicious, but the real treat was the entrés: roasted duck breast, lamb, scallops and Norwegian salmon. Our table went family style; we tried a bit of each dish. The scallops melted in the mouth and were my favorite. For dessert we had lemon panna cotta, cremé brulee, petít four, and macadamia nut ice cream. What a great way to cap off an amazing day of skiing in Mammoth. We will definitely be back! read more

This wonderful little place is exactly as advertised. We ate the venison special (wasnt on the menu) and the Ny steak. Both cuts were cooked exactly how we asked, juicy, medium rare to perfection. Skadi is an exceptional experience. We dined 2/29 and had the luxury of sitting at the Chef's Counter and were able to watch all the finesse and precise actions of the chefs. Sitting side by side was perfect too. I had brought a bottle of "de-alcoholized" wine and that was graciously decanted and poured for us. The food is Michelin quality seriously. Service is very attentive without being intrusive and we felt very well taken care of. Texting for a reservation is super easy and actually much more personal than doing it online. I only want 2 things when I head up to Mammoth: 1. At least 1 day of fresh snow 2. Dinner at Skadi So far all the boxes have been checked! Thank you for a beautiful evening! read more

Very brief and very well selected wine list. Chef checks on guests personally. The food was quite good and competently prepared. The Achilles heel, as it often is in smaller communities, was the waitstaff. Some duplication of effort (probably because our waitperson is perceived to need help). One tip: ask to be seated in the main dining area near the kitchen. We sat in the "anteroom" and had 2 dealkiller issues: 1) waitstaff had difficulty remembering to check in (out of sight, out of mind); and 2) it got waayy too hot - I literally had to interrupt my meal, rudely leave my table, and go outside and cool off. I'm pretty thin and was only wearing a short sleeve shirt and pants. I was sort of embarrassed by this and it shouldn't happen. Overall a nice meal with some nits that need fixing. I liked the food enough for this to be a 4star instead of a 3star. read more

Do *not* miss SKADI, seriously. This "new" restaurant will be completely booked during the tourist season, no doubt. We started with a glass of the Pinot Noir rosé and the cured salmon on (what could be described as) the best hash browns ever(!) with Dijon mustard. Then we moved to a beet and bleu cheese salad (whoa!) The milk based bleu cheese dressing was so light and flavorful and complimented the crisp romaine and roasted beets perfectly. Switching up the wine for a Grüner Veltliner for our mains, the salmon and the pork belly (2 ways) - which were both amazing! Both were perfectly cooked and all of the sides were perfectly composed. The confit on the pork belly was outstanding - leaving a minor layer of fat separating the flesh from the crisp of the skin and the loin was juicy and perfect with the sauce. The salmon was moist and crisp, and eaten by my husband who enjoyed it immensely. He went out of his way to compliment the sauce which was creamy and plentiful, but not overwhelming. Next up, the Meyer lemon panna cotta, which was the perfect refreshing end to the meal - the perfect balance of gelatin to dairy, which is a tricky achievement and was highly appreciated! I love that the staff has dinner nightly, this speaks to how well prepared the food is, that they love to eat at the end of every service. Do yourself a favor and call ahead for a reservation here. If you eat at the counter, or on the second level, you are afforded a fantastic view of the kitchen and the chance to see your beautiful meal come together before right your eyes. read more

Even though they ran out of the foie gras they found a little extra and made the dish. The soup and salad were great. The salmon entree amazing! We make our traditional trip to Mammoth every year for Super Bowl weekend which certainly would not be complete without a dining experience at Skadi. And the food somehow gets better each time we go. Recently we had the mushroom soup with thyme cream (hearty and warming), smoked trout salad with trout roe and horseradish, the venison loin with venison sausage, fingerling potatoes, apples, haricot vert and a delish demiglace (cooked to perfection, a real mountain dish), and a dessert Chef Ian has perfected... frozen macadamia nut parfait filled with chocolate ganache. Went there for my significant other's birthday. It is a lovely restaurant in an unassuming commercial complex. At first glance it doesn't seem like much but once inside the atmosphere says fine dining. Main cuisine was excellent and so was the service. Ordered creme brulee and the top was burnt to the point one could taste the carbon. The chef should never have allowed this dish to be served. Dish was re-served and it was so so--creme brulee is not their strong point. But based on the high standards of everything else five stars is still given--just don't order the creme brulee. read more
