The bread they used for the French toast seemed like a regular piece of white bread, nothing fancy. I did enjoy all the fresh berries and strawberry syrup on it. Service was fast. Husband and I tried Skillets while we were in town because it is my in-laws favorite breakfast place. The menu was big but I was disappointed that there was virtually nothing gluten free on it. You'd think omelets would be gluten free, right, but they must add lots of flour to them because they were not labeled gluten free on the menu and are super puffy. I went with the "healthy egg white" omelet thinking maybe it would be gluten free but it clearly was not. And it was really bland because it had no cheese in an attempt to be "healthy ". Scones looked delicious-- blueberry the day we were there. Husband ate mine. I did like the little fruit side -- fruit was very fresh. Hash browns were delicious-- reminded me of Waffle House. Since this was breakfast I for the first time in my life ordered rancho huevos, It seems to me the reason I never ordered them was the green peppers that always seemed to be on them. Went here from a suggestion and it was really delish. I had never tried a CUBAN sandwich. I don't love a lot of bread so instead of a panini I opted for a wheat wrap. The grilled it to perfection. It was really really good! My other half had the pulled pork tacos which he enjoyed. Fruit cup was my side choice.. nice and fresh. Over the years we have stopped by this place on our trips. Just off I-75 and somewhat mid way between Miami and Tampa, it's almost a perfect stop for us to take a break and fuel up before continuing on our trip. The only downside is it closes rather early at 2:30. They have plenty of tables outside, so it's great when we are taking along our pets, and we can easily keep an eye on our car too if we have it loaded up for the trip. Their breakfast menu is quite extensive, with many choices of pancakes, waffles, blintz, crepes, french toasts, omelettes, fritattas, skillets, eggs and more, and then for lunch, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps and the like. I've been dying to try this restaurant for a couple of years now. I've heard so many good things from so many people. The interior gives me diner vibes. It seems like this is the hotspot for breakfast, as it was super packed. I ordered the breakfast skillet that included eggs, tomato, goat cheese, onions and peppers. It tasted absolutely delicious and I could not believe how affordable it was. The portion was huge and came with a side of toast. There is no way that I would be able to make this kind of breakfast at home. Ever since my visit my mouth has been watering for another one of those delicious skillets. Annoyingly noisy. Food and service were both ok. Like many restaurants you can tell they are a bit understaffed as evidenced by a high % of unbussed tables. Servers are stretched to the max. One issue they can control is to take an extra couple of seconds to place dirty dishes in the bin at the back of the restaurant. It seemed like the servers were in some type of competition to see who could create the most noise. The vertical drop of plates to impact varied between 6 and 12 inches based on my 20+ observations. I really wanted to like this place. We came on a Saturday morning and the place was dead. I am giving 2 stars because my kids liked their chocolate chip pancakes and the french toast. My biscuits and gravy were okay... The scrambled eggs were meh. The coffee tasted watered down. We ordered a side of their "famous" bacon as it said on the menu. It was inedible. Hard as a rock - so maybe its famous for the fact you cannot eat it. Ordered a scone and it was extra dry and tasteless. That being said, the place was just grimy. If you looked around at the baseboards and the walls, the seats, etc, it was dirty. This would be a great opportunity for one of those restaurant rescue /rehab shows. read more
