Best Skipper's I've ever been to! Skipper's is what it is, a fried fish fast food joint, nothing more, nothing less. Not sure why people would rate it for anything else. The exterior is a typical Skipper's chain fast food design but this one is clean, big difference! A clean exterior sets the tone for me, especially at a fast food place. The inside is also very clean, from the floors to the tables to the bathrooms. That's something super special when it comes to the amount of people they serve on a daily basis! First and foremost though, it doesn't smell like oil! For the entire menu to be deep fried, it's nice that you don't smell it when you walk in and you don't smell it on yourself hours later! Everything here is cooked to order, nothing is left in baskets over the oil waiting to be served up. It may take a few extra minutes to get your meal but it's well worth it when the fish, chicken clams and shrimp are hot and crispy! Since most all meals come with chowder it's nice to enjoy the chowder while waiting for your meal. The fish is lightly crusted so you get more fish than batter, they have a few varieties of shrimp and the clam strips are plump and tender. It's all frozen, bought in bulk and dropped in a fryer but sometimes that can be a challenge for fast food joints so to have it done perfectly every time is a blessing! Came here a few days ago with my two sons, one got the kids meal with grill cheese. Really good deal for under $7, came the entree, fries, jello, animal crackers and a drink. My 12 yr old son got the regular 2fish combo with fries and subbed his coleslaw for jello. I had the fish and shrimp combo with fries and coleslaw. All was pretty good, I couldn't finish it all though. We spent around $25 which was a good deal for the food. Also the customer service was awesome! Next time I'll bring my husband. read more

I make Skipper's a regular stop for carry out. The food is obviously not fine dining but it's better than other seafood fast food shops. What does deserve praise is the friendly and welcoming customer service. I see the owner working every time I visit and he's a very hard worker. He always engages with me and other customers. And that carries over to how friendly the staff is. The restaurant is always very clean. This was one of a kind experience. I ordered the all you can eat fish and chips, I asked what kind of fish that was being served, I was told that it was pollack. The order took about 15mins to get to the table. The crust on the fish was great, but the fish was mushy and had no flavor. If I could rate the fish I would have given it a -5. Of the three pieces that were sent to the table I was able to eat 21/2 pieces, only because i was really hungry. I really wanted to get a good meal I wish I had gone to Roundtable or KFC. read more

We had such a nice meal at Skipper's, and I am happy to write this review. We ordered the family meal because it seemed to be the best deal (especially with the $3 coupon). We ordered five pieces of fish (Alaskan Pollock) and three pieces of chicken (you get to mix and match eight pieces). You also get to choose from two bowls of coleslaw and clam chowder. We opted for one bowl of coleslaw (delicious!) and one bowl of chowder (my first time trying clam chowder, and I really enjoyed it). The fish was very good, but I sure do wish I had the cod instead (you can only choose the Pollock for the family meal). The service was Very professional, and I am so glad to see a fast food place run in a way that would make Gus Fring proud. Anytime the employees were not cooking or helping a customer, they were busy sweeping and cleaning the restaurant. Everything looked nice and well maintained. The fries were also Delicious, and I didn't want to stop eating them! Verdict: the food was delicious and you will love this place if you are looking for some good fish and chips. read more

This Skipper's Has been in Silverdale awhile. Closed down for a bit, a new owner came in and remodeled the inside and they opened back up in February 2013. Nice remodel, has a few TV's that shows "Deadliest Catch" episodes. Menu seems the same with a few changes, Very nice inside. I had the Halibut Sandwich and it was very, very good !! I used to frequent this place all the time when I was younger with my parents. It had probably been at least 10 years since I've actually been inside, but I recently went with my two kids because I had heard they updated the place. The inside of the restaurant looks great! The menu is lcd screens lined up in a row - the color is vibrant and crisp and makes the whole place feel very modern. There are multiple TV's throughout the place as well, and when we went they all played different channels, which is nice because then patrons have options... And we all love options! I got a platter with fish, clam strips and fried shrimp. It came with a side of coleslaw and fries. The fries were great, not too crispy but not all soggy. They had the perfect amount of salt to them as well. The coleslaw had a fresh taste to it, and the dressing wasn't overpowering at all like some sales can be. The rest of my platter was good too, my kids and I really liked the fried shrimp. Both of my kids got the popcorn shrimp kids meals, those came with a side of jello (yum!), animal crackers and fries. My 9 yr old devoured his in just a few minutes, which says a lot because he typically doesn't care for seafood! They serve beer on tap (Manny's and Ridgetop Red) and you can often find a coupon in the mail to save a few bucks on meals. The only reason I gave them 4 stars and not 5 was because the man at the front register could have been much friendlier and not so grumpy, but it could have just been an "off day" for him. As a young child, our family would go to the Skippers in Ballard. It was so long ago that, "All You Can Eat" was . . . . . wait for it . . . . . only $1.59!!!! YES that is true! When they raised the price to a "Whopping" $1.79, I thought there would be a customer rebellion. Thankfully, there was no rebellion. Fast forward to today and Mike has created a product that is 100% as good or even better than Skippers was in those early days! Yesterday, I reminded Mike that many pubs advertise, "The Coldest Beer in Town" but that he should advertise that he has, "The Hottest (and BEST) Fish in Town!" I ate lunch there yesterday and it was truely PERFECT! Clean, organized, friendly, the food was AWESOME, and exactly the way every restaurant should be run. I have visited the Silverdale Skipper's restaurant several times over the past year and have been absolutely pleased every time. The place is very clean (even the restrooms), the staff is always friendly and attentive, the service is fast, and the food...outstanding! The fish & chips are consistently delicious - cooked just right and piping hot - and the chowder is wonderful. They also have a good selection of condiments and soft drinks. I have dined at Skipper's restaurants all over Washington since the 1970s and this location is the best of all! Kudos to the owner and employees for keeping the Skipper's tradition alive for us "older folks" and new generations, too. I really don't think they did anything "wrong" to deserve 3 stars, but I just wasn't that big of a fan. Their menu consists of 100% fried food. My daughter has been wanting to come for a while so we decided (since we had a coupon) to go. My husband had the AYCE fish and chips and my kids split a kid's fried fish. I had a shrimp basket. Positives: the food was fresh and the oil was clean. The garlic vinegar was amazing with the fish. Cons: The chowder is pretty generic and very flour heavy. It's definitely not like the chowder on the East Coast (l don't think anything can beat "wicked good chowder"). As for service, it was dinner rush and the staff seemed overwhelmed. My husband and I came to have lunch at this location; shortly after 11am upon opening. The restaurant was clean, staff friendly and accommodating, the food excellent! But THE MUSIC is ATROCIOUS! It sounds like rave party night club music; not appropriate for a sit down family restaurant! BOOM BOOM BOOM the whole time!! I told the waitress the music was atrocious when she came to bring our food, and she said, "The music is hand picked by the manager." (suuure it is) And it just so happens there's a bunch of young punks working there. It might explain why a lot of people get their food to go, or why it isn't that busy when we have been there. I haven't been to a skippers since I was a kid and ill tell you what it's still not a bad place to go to, for when you have a craving for fried stuff. The food is great! You get a good options to choose from and it's always cooked right. I haven't had a chewy clam strip or dry fish. The shrimp is always golden brown. I love the clam chowder here.
