Places like this are the mom and pop hole in the walls I love. I had the shrimp and catfish with Mac n cheese. The shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. I'm getting hungry thinking about it. The hush puppies are also fantastic, the Mac n cheese was okay if they added some green chili to it or something else it would kick it up a notch. Food was good, but nothing amazing. Horseradish, ketchup, and other dressings just served to you in packets. Food also bagged up. We asked to stay and eat. I stopped by to get a pick up order for lunch yesterday. I have never been and I was in the mood for shrimp. When I walked in, I noticed the water stained ceilings and hodge podge of papers taped to the side of the cooler. There were some tables lined up on either side of the lobby/dining room. Not a great impression on design. I ordered a skrimp dinner with fries and a skrimp and fish dinner with fries. We drove 7 minutes back to the house. Basically, the fries, the fish and the shrimp were all kind of soggy. I wanted so much to enjoy. But, I guess taking out here is not a good idea. The steam from all the fried food was trapped in the styrofoam containers and made everything soft and mushy. We spent $40 for two meals and was pretty disappointed. This is a good spot for quality fast food. It is mostly fried food but it's done well, I don't think it's greasy at all. The service is ok enough but the seafood is absolutely delicious. Get the skrimp po' boy, it's the best thing on the menu and the best value (I mean it, the portion is generous.) Had not been to location before...and just like its cousin on Jefferson the food is just great. As you know, getting consistent quality from one location to another does not happen often...but this time it does. My Sandwich was outstanding, my Mac and Cheese side was smooth, ice tea was just perfect. Now unlike the Jefferson avenue location, only issue I saw was a very small seating area and when I was there you had to wait for an empty table (perhaps they do much more take out service at this location). The sandwich is a nice size with plenty of shrimp and the perfect amount of crab meat sprinkled throughout. The sandwiches are always severed fresh and piping hot topped with their PERFECT sauce, you can choose either hot or mild... I usually go with the mild so it won't mask the taste of the seafood. If they have them, try the soft shell crabs sandwich too!! You will not be upset!! Aaaaaah it was so good! Perfectly fried whiting with a tasty coating. The shrimp wonderful, and oh the creamy Mac and cheese. They poked holes in the container making the steam escape for everything to stay crispy. The price was great at $7.25 its $11 something for the dinner ( larger portion) . There were plenty of shrimp too, about 10 at least. The fries were delicious and crispy. The shrimp po boy was delicious my cousin said, but the mac and cheese really needs some work. I finally had the opportunity to try this place. I'm not a local, but every time I visit the Williamsburg/Hampton Roads area the Yelp reviews of the Skrimp Shack always catch my attention. This location is in a strip mall near a Walmart and a Tropical Smoothie Cafe. It's a seafood carry-out with a small dining area. The prices are really affordable with ample portions. I was greeted as soon as I walked through the door and the cashier was very friendly. I asked what type of meat the crab cakes were made of (I am a MD girl so lump with no filler is the only acceptable answer) and was told claw meat (no thanks). Instead of a crab cake I opted to try the shrimp and crab boy, fries, hush puppies, and a fried haddock sandwich. They prepare everything to order so it took about 10-15 minutes for my order to be ready. The food looked great and the order was correct. They charge for extra condiments so keep that in mind. The fried haddock sandwich is 3-4 large pieces of fish so you'll definitely need more tartar sauce for that. I thought the shrimp and crab po-boy was good, not great. The bread was nicely toasted, but the shrimp were a little overlooked for me. The fries and the hush puppies were really good. I don't eat fish, but my friend raved about the fish sandwich and the tartar sauce. I would definitely go back and my other friends are eager to try the Skrimp Shack while we are in town. read more

First time dining here and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. It's got that family, mom and pop feel to it. The food was amazing. I got the Catfish Skrimp Po and my husband got the Fat Grouper sandwich. And man did he get a lot of fish packed into that sandwich! The food is pretty decently priced but I do not find the sides and drink to be worth the extra $3.25. Especially since you just get a small styrofoam cup for the drink and have to constantly go to refill it. The place was packed too and the line was constantly to the door! That's a pretty darn good sign that the place is popular. However, I started getting that claustrophobic feeling since we were in there packed like sardines. read more

There's no remoulade to be had here, nor lettuce or tomato...it's just fried shrimp and fried catfish...the 'spicy' sauce tasted too sweet and there was no heat to it. The hush puppies were pretty good-I don't recommend getting them as a side though unless you're with someone to share them with...just way too many of them. For near $14 for that combo above plus a drink, not the best deal in the world nor is it worth it for the quality...I might try something else next time if they actually cleaned their restaurant...there was some soda spilled on the floor and half of the tables hadn't been cleaned off when I went there. read more

Enormous portions of sub-mediocre food. The middle-class dream. The fish was coated well and crispy, too bad the coating was bland and pointless. The portion was generous, but way too much. They could make a better sandwich with 1/3 of the fish and a smaller bun that's been buttered and toasted, and that actually has good flavor. The tarter sauce was advertised as homemade, but came in a pack. It probably was a Franchise sauce, but they should seriously just make it fresh daily. It was OK. The poboy sauce, which I got on the side for extra money, was just a weird gelatin type thing which tasted like straight italian dressing from the grocery store. Also, they're spicy was on par with Texas Pete, and while tasty, isn't spicy. I was the second customer of the day and they had to microwave my Mac and Cheese... The sweet potato fries were the best thing on the plate. Didn't finish the sandwich, and decided to take the fish off the plain, boring bun and eat it alone. The smells that come from this place... Oh man!!! Carl recently took over this place and he's done an outstanding job. On our original visit here, I got a shrimp po boy and H got a catfish sandwich. The po boy came out dripping in their sauce. I highly recommend purchasing some extra sauce to take home with you, it's to die for- a little sweet, a little spice! The catfish sandwich was so massive that we took some home. If you know my boyfriend, that doesn't happen often! Our second visit there, we got some shirts and a cup of chowder. I've never been a fan of chowders, but it was so good! This visit I got the fat flounder sandwich with Mac n cheese, and H got the catfish sandwich with hush puppies.
