Well, I have to be completely honest. I felt so welcomed when I walked in. It was so busy people were waiting for their take out orders outside! But the lady at the counter (I'm assuming the owner because of other reviews) was so kind and helpful. It was our first time there, and she recommended food, gave a sample and engaged in conversation. I couldn't wait to try the food because a friend recommended them, and they are always packed so I imagined the food was on point. So she said about a 15 minute wait, but we waited about 25. This wasn't too much of a problem because they were super busy on this Friday night. So we got our takeout, and was told there was a bit extra in the bag. By then they had a return customer! So we got the catfish dinner which had 8 whole pieces of catfish, fried shrimp which were large, a buffalo shrimp taco, mac and cheese, coleslaw and green beans. The catfish was really good. And such a huge portion for just $9. There was nothing special about the fried shrimp. The mac and cheese was a mix of macaroni noodles and penne. It was really bland. The coleslaw was really good and tangy. The green beans had no flavor at all. The Buffalo shrimp taco was good, but not enough sauce. Also not alot of flavor. So now I have mixed emotions about this place. We would return because of the amazing customer service, huge portions, and inexpensive prices. But the food wasn't all that special. read more

After seeing Shrimp Shack on YELP decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed! My wife and I got a crab and shrimp Po' Boy and a fish taco to share. We were asked and ordered both spicy. The Po' Boy was great! Freshly baked bread, plenty of crab, and jumbo shrimp all cooked perfectly. The fish taco came in a warm soft taco with fresh vegetables. Both were large and well worth the price. The spicy sauce on both was very good with a spice that was not overpowering but did stick with you for a little while after you were done eating. They do have combo plates and sides on the menu which we will be sure to try the next time we go in. Very disappointed...my boyfriend was very upset with what he got. We've been here several times and we're usually satisfied. But the "Daily Special," which he got, the scallops, were not satisfying for the price. Another disappointing thing is that if you get it as a combo you would have to add another side for$1.50. We don't mind paying extra, but if the meal itself is $13 already, then you add a side and drink, it's added cost is not even worth it. They are good when it comes to their regular items, but I don't think they specialize in other things. Stopped in for the first time in a while. Whole new crew of faces! The staff was wonderful! Very friendly, very professional. The restaurant is still clean. Simple bit comfortable. Although it was crowded, the staff really turned out the food. I especially liked the way the young man WALKED MY ORDER OUT TO ME. Very courteous touch. Unfortunately, the food itself left A LOT to be desired. I got catfish nuggets and sweet potato fries. All I tasted was the old, stale oil it was cooked in. The fries were limp and soggy. The fish was overdone. It all smelled burnt. I never really thought it was authentic New Orleans cuisine like they advertise but it used to be good. HUGE PORTIONS, I must admit in the past I've paid a lot more for far less seafood. This place is amazing. You walk in and your immediately greeted by a smiling face. Place your order at the counter and find yourself a seat. They'll bring out your food....fresh, hot and enough to feed a small army. If you order the family sized portions for home you can't go wrong. I was worried about it getting cold and greasy but they packed it so well that it was still warm. There food is lightly breaded and fried golden brown, not the greasy mess you get at other places. The shrimp and fish sandwich is my favorite. Mr. Loves the catfish dinner. I could make a meal out of the hush puppies. I'd love for them to open a chain of restaurants. Until then....when I'm in the mood for seafood I'll travel to Yorktown. It's worth the drive. Almost forgot to mention that the homemade sauce is delicious. Mr. Even likes to dip his fries into the homemade sauce. :) I'll stick with ketchup. If I had one recommendation for them it would be to purchase Heinz ketchup. They use some generic brand, I've seen these packs in bulk at the local big box stores. So I'm going to give this a 4 star because, I've been four times and I think the food is fabulous, but customer service is a bit on the meh side. Every time I've gone, it's been hopping so obviously it's not hurting business and it's not terrible, just the girl at the register could smile a lot more or at least look like she enjoys herself. Otherwise, they probably would have gotten a 5. I absolutely love the skrimp po' boy. Watch out though, if you think the hot sauce is just a bit spicy, you're wrong. I love extremely spicy foods so it doesn't bother me, but if you can't handle serious heat, I'd recommend you get the medium po boy sauce. The bread is a little weird because it's kind of toasted well. I don't mind that, but if you're really particular, you might want to say lightly toasted. With all that being said, the shrimp is fried perfectly. I will warn you, this is not good traveling food. Don't think you can drive down the road and shove this thing in your mouth and remain clean. It will not happen and I like it that way. The crab meat and skrimp po'boy was still awesome, but I would still be happy with just the shrimp. I think my favorite is the soft shell crab sandwich. I've been craving soft shell crabs and I'm 6 months pregnant. Of course I would want them when they weren't in season. I tried one a month ago, before it was in season, but I honestly wasn't impressed. It was a little salty and mushy. I saw on facebook they had fresh soft shell crabs the other day, so I went back. Very nice experience here. First things first... it's a small place, so don't be afraid to wait for a table or get it to go. However the dining and kitchen area were extremely clean. There also was no noticeable odor of frying oil or fish; a very good sign for a place that only does fried fish. I had the crab and shrimp poboy. Used to love in Hampton for four years, and only discovered this hidden jem the last month I lived there. But once I found it, I would eat here for lunch or dinner almost every other day! Then when I moved I was so upset. I was surprised that I haven't eaten a po'boy with this much flavor before! So luckily I have to come back to Hampton roads every couple of months... Awesome fried shrimp! You can really tell they are fresh. They have just the right amount of crispy batter on them, and when you bite in you get a moist burst of fresh shrimpy goodness. Their special sauce is super tasty and great for dunking. Not sure what goes into it, but it's a bit like a spicy mayo. I went right in the middle of Saturday dinner rush, so I had to wait about 15-20 before my food came out, but I can't really blame the place for being busy. While I waited, the young guy behind the counter came out frequently to (almost obsessively) wipe down the tables. Cleanliness in the dining area makes me feel good about the state of the kitchen. The shrimp and crab po'boy is delish, and their side of fries is generous. If you can't eat seafood, find someplace else to eat. They have a chicken sandwich on the menu, but I'd bet you'd still have a reaction to it. Anyway, I'll definitely be back here the next time I'm craving fried shrimp. read more

No sooner than I placed my order the place turned into a mad house with at least 15 people waiting to place an order. After seeing that phenomena I thought to myself the food must be good. wow, I ordered my food with Uber eats. revieced the food still warm. so I'm excited that I will be trying the whiting lunch plate with a sweet tea. man why did I do that. So friendly you almost don't notice how slow the service is. Had the shrimp Po boy and fries and it was really good, sauce is also flavorful, they put just enough sauce on the 'samwich', that the taste didn't over power the shrimp. I live a couple of miles from here and always pass as I'm going to Wal-Mart. I decided today I was going to stop in and give it a try since it is hard to find a place with good seafood.
