This is my first yelp review and I'm only reviewing it to warn people not to waste their time. I've taken the time to read other people's reviews and I noticed some people mentioned that "maybe you must be asian to get a server's attention", well I am asian and still received the same terrible treatment. The food on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 2 at best, 10 being the best. All of the servers are incredibly rude. When my father asked for extra napkins the waitress didn't even acknowledge him and then came back with a stack of napkins and placed them on top of my dad's plate of food. ON TOP OF HIS FOOD!!! We then decided not to give a tip. After we paid we went to leave and the waitresses crowded around our table and made it difficult for us to leave and said out loud "no tip". That was it, we told them they didn't deserve a tip and that their service was terrible. The entire restaurant stopped eating because the servers were arguing with my mom, telling my mom that we needed to leave a tip. Last time I checked, tip is a courtesy for great and outstanding service. I chimed in to defend my mom by saying that the food was lousy and that the service was nonexistent. All the waitresses had sour face attitudes and worked as if they hate life. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!! Unless you like to be treated like dirt and want to tip them for it. read more

Came here for their happy hour special and ordered Singapore Rice Noodle, Wonton Noodle Soup, French Toast, and Fried Chicken Wings. The food came faster than we expected. The food came in big portions like at all the other D&A's. The food was pretty good and you can get anything on the menu that you can find at other D&A's. This place is pretty clean, food is pretty cheap, and the service seems to be better here too. read more

Very rude customer service! Called to cancel an order I just made a minute ago, and got yelled at by the lady! My food was for sure not made because I just ordered it a minute ago. The lady start yelling at me saying, "if you have no car, then why you calling to make an order? Do you know my boss will not make a profit of food was made and you don't pick up?!!" Well lady, how do I know my car wouldn't turn on? And how would your boss lose money when my food was not made yet because I just ordered a minute ago? This place has decent food (flavor and portions) for the price. $20.99 for three entrees AND it comes with soup and a pot of rice. This is enough to feed the four of us every time we come by. Often times there's even enough food left over for it to be someone's lunch. Don't expect excellent customer service when you come here - this is not the place to find it. Dirty dishes are tossed loudly into bins. Staff rarely makes eye contact nor smile. This holds true even for the Chinese-speaking customers too so nope, there's no perks of speaking the native language with these guys. No one escapes from the cold lack of interaction. But we still regularly come back. Why? Service is at a minimum but we always get our tea cups refilled and rice added into our rice pot. And c'mon guys, $20.99 dinner for four and it's not $5 sandwiches from Subway? Not only is it a deal but it's a darn right steal for a Chinese restaurant! You can't go wrong with Skyline Cafe. They have other locations in San Francisco as well--Broadway in Chinatown and Clement in Richmond. They had a wide variety of cheap eats for Chinese Food. I recommend getting their mayo shrimp, salt and pepper pork chops and scrambled egg beef. There's are many other choices, those are just to name a few. I didn't think I would find legit HK style milk tea (lai cha) in the Bay area, and just when I was going to lose hope, I found Skyline's Cafe. This place is not meant for the fancy dates or the needy foodies, this is a place that resembles any hole in the wall on the streets of Mongkok in Hong Kong. The food's cheap, the portions big, the flavour is ok, but that's how it's suppose to be (翠華 quality is not your standard HK 茶餐廳). You know the place is legit when they give you the option to have unsweetened milk tea, because that means they have both evaporated milk and condensed milk. FOOD: I got the beef brisket lunch special for $5.55...let me repeat, $5.55 for a phat plate of beef in delicious sauce, fluffy rice, and cheap cabbages. It's fairly self-explanatory. For those who complain about the service, it's culturally as conventional as tipping in America; HK servers not that nice. read more

Cheap, edible, and open late. That sums up this place in a nutshell. I usually come here during happy hour, 3pm-6pm and 10pm-close, and get myself a baked pork chop for $5. They also have some noodle soups and chow fun/mein for about $4 during happy hour and the portions aren't bad. read more

Asian cheapness is a term that is near and dear to my heart. It is the cornerstone of our society, and the reason why Asian people have more disposable income that many other groups. And that is exactly what I witnessed here Saturday night. It was incredibly packed. Full house and still hoards of folks waiting outside to be seated. Their menu boasts an enormous variety of food - three items at a whopping $19.99! I wouldn't say their food is to die for but it is good for the money you pay. Deep fried flounder is one of my favorites. Crisp and the light drizzle of soy sauce completes it. Pass on the tofu. It wasn't what I was expecting and definitely was not what was pictured on the menu. A bit on the soggy end. Service is not spectacular. The servers are there to take your order and get you in and out as quickly as possible. But do you really expect any more than just that? One big pro - they're open late so it's a great place to grab food to satisfy the late night hunger. read more

I grew up in the South Bay, where I can get all the Asian food I want. So, when I moved up the Peninsula, I was disappointed to see it was mainly "typical" Chinese food. Until I found Skyline's Cafe... My favorite dish? Baked Cod over rice. It is VERY similar to what I order in HK, and at extremely reasonable prices! I could eat this stuff every day (but probably shouldn't)! Their beef chow fun with gravy is best I've had locally. Also, their happy hour is awesome - pea sprouts, salt and pepper pork chops, baked spaghetti...all at VERY reasonable prices! The negatives? Well, service is pretty terrible. Waitresses don't seem to want to acknowledge your existence, unless you happen to catch their eye. The place can get crowded and loud, but I think this adds to the "authenticity". I love their happy hour menu! They're also very cheap/reasonably price for a Chinese food place. They have ALMOST the same menu as the D&A cafe on Clement Street in SF but the happy hour menu here isn't as big. I must warn you...the service does kind of suck here (I wasn't surprised). They take you forever to bring you tea/ice-water/watermelon juice (if you ordered it). I always had to ask at least twice for the watermelon juice if we had ordered it. Ugh...kind of annoying. Here's my first review ever. We ate at Skyline Cafe around 10:00 p.m. last night. One of the waitress was very rude. After we sat down got our tea. We have to asked her five time for her to get us a spoon. The restaurant was not busy at all. She spend more time on her cell phone than her customers. When she brought us the soup. She just dump it on the table and hurry went back to her cell phone chatting. The disgusting part is i found a piece of bandage inside the soup bowl. I flag her down and she took it back to the kitchen. She came back out with some of the food we order. Seem like nothing happen to the soup with bandage. She didn't offer us anything at all, no sorry, no soup replacement, not discount, no nothing. Even i live so close to this place. I will never come back again. For a cheap and fast Hong Kong Chinese food joint, this place is pretty awesome. They have a great selection of snacks and traditional dishes. The service is crappy, but that's kind of typical for any Chinese restaurant. The prices are pretty cheap (they have happy hour too! I think we got 3 items for $19.99 - includes a soup of the day!). Very decent sized portions. Best part: you can order and the food comes out within minutes. They are FAST! Of course it's not going to be amazing Chinese food, but it's decent for the price you're paying. Seating is cramped just like D&A and this is no place to bring a date (unless it's late and everything else is closed, or both of you are just in the mood for OK but CHEAP HK-cafe style food.) Recommendations for the 3 item menu: Bitter Melon with chicken/beef/fish/salmon (take your pick!) Black Bean Sauce Clams Seafood Tofu XO Sauce Clay pot (very flavorful!) Eggplant with Salted Fish (also flavorful) Garlic Snow Pea Leaves (tender) Salt/Pepper Pork Chops (although sometimes you get more fat than meat) Mango Pudding (for dessert-made from fresh mango!) So Daly City has another Hong Kong Style restaurant and this one is open till the wee hours of the morning. That is rare for Daly City because almost everything closes before midnight. I think this place is open by the same owners who has one in Chinatown because the chinese name is the same, but i can be wrong. What's cool about this place is that they have special at certain hours. Usually between 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. and 10p.m.-1a.m. Yup you read that right something in daly city besides the boba places are open till 1a.m. And their specials aren't bad because you can get a rice plate and a small appetizer place like the fried curry fish balls. They have daily specials here too, but those start at 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. It comes with rice or spaghetti, the daily special and your choice of coffee of hong kong style milk tea. Not bad for under 5 dollars! Overall i'm pretty glad there is a place to go to late at night in this foggy town. read more

The only good thing about this "cafe" is that it's cheap. My family's been having an obsession over the $20.99 for three entrees. It comes with soup and rice and then our family also adds one more entree in addition to the three. Sure it is cheap, a quick fix, and the food itself is actually not bad, but I cringe every time they want to come here because the cafe is pretty grimey. Sometimes the floor is wet, the sides are sticky, and the dishes aren't clean. Not appetizing I can tell ya. The service is also nonexistent. Yes, it is a Chinese restaurant, no one expects great service but that doesn't mean it's acceptable. I've gone to Skyline Cafe several times already, and I'm probably one of their loyal customers because the food exceeds my expectations for a hong kong style cafe. I first found out about Skyline Cafe during their grand opening week. And like most hong kong style cafes, the windows are fully decorated with photos of dishes, drinks, and menus. My dad quipped that if there was a fight inside, no one was going to know from the outside because of the window of photos. Anyway, I always come back to get takeout. The eggplant and beef rice is SO GEWD!! I ask for mild/less spicy and they really listen! Other restaurants still make it a tad bit too spicy for me, but Skyline Cafe definitely accommodates. Although the spices are out, there are still enough flavors to compensate. The classic tomato beef over rice and chow fun are pretty good. And I always request for less oil, because Chinese food can get a bit greasy, and the staff makes note of it. Also try their watermelon juice/slushy. It's made from an actual watermelon (and you can see a proof of these behind the register), not watermelon powder. Prices are on the lower end, yet portions are just right. Keep in mind that this is a Chinese cafe, which is far from a romantic, candlelit fancy restaurant. He asked a skinny lady wearing a pink polo shirt and instead of helping my dad and attempting to answer his question, she brushed him off and walked away and told her coworker to help us. Who's to complain about good cheap Chinese food? It was conveniently located after my mother and I finished our errands at the market. We came here more than once, and I must say, their prices are what makes us return whenever we are around. I had the baked pork chop over rice, which I thought that day was a little too sour, but it was still good. Ordered 3 dishes and it was only $17 total. This place was formerly Tempura House but they moved next door to the old Spicy Element. Skyline's Cafe offers great prices for large portions of Hong Kong-style food. Most rice dishes are around $5. All drinks (hot and cold) are $1.55. Don't expect anything elegant. The restaurant is hot and stuffy and looks like a mess hall. Although it tastes nowhere near real HK cafe food, the food is decent, though it can get somewhat bland and manufactured; nonetheless, I'm willing to endure the surroundings and fill up my stomach for a good price. read more

Why is it that every time I dine in a Chinese restaurant I seem to be ignored? Like seriously, this is why I do take out... My boyfriend and I came in and signed our name on their clipboard. We waited like seriously 5 minutes and most of the workers were just hanging out by the register talking to each other. It was not till my boyfriend signed his name on the clipboard AGAIN that they noticed us. We got seated and the waiter got our order. 5 minutes later we got our "food" which wasn't even what we ordered. I suggest telling them the number then what food you want cause they got our order wrong. The whole time we were there, the waitress kept giving us the wrong food. I was already annoyed by then. We finally got the food we ordered, and it was good. My favorite was the honey walnut prawns. Next time, I'll just stick to take out. Service was bad but extra star goes to them for having good food. I think it's very hard to find real hk style milk tea but this is definitely one of the best ones in SF & the entire Bay Area. Rice is very delicious, very fluffy. Beef brisket is definitely worth it, the herbal tea jelly not so much. read more
