Slim chickens is good, quality food. After trying most of the menu, I strongly recommend the tenders, wings, mac n' cheese, and if you've got a sweet tooth, the jar desserts are pretty amazing. This location, pretty much like the rest of them I've been too has a great staff, ample parking, and a good drive through. Hard to beat the selection of sauces too as they've got more than a dozen. This location in specific can get pretty hectic with the sports complex next door; so if you see an entire team filing in the front door...opt for the drive through. read more

The restaurant has very good branding, which was the initial factor in deciding to try this place out for the first time. Pros: I thought the chicken was very fresh and of good quality. The breading is light and flavorful but doesn't necessarily have much crunch, which I still liked. Sides are good. Management and staff were very friendly. They serve beer! Cons: a little more expensive than what you might expect for fast food. Additional sides a la cart are $2-$4. Instead of individual napkins they keep a roll of paper towels on the table... I understand this is part of their "southern" image but it doesn't seem like it's the most sanitary. Overall, I was pleased and would go again. read more

Hmm.. This place seemed trying to cook chicken in a healthier way but it did not work out. I can not tell the difference between my homemade air fried chicken wings and their wings. The wings were dry and chewed like a piece of wood. It definitely needed more favors and the it was overpriced. For example, the 10 pieces wings are 10 bucks. You can get a whole bucket of fried chicken from churchs or 6 pieces of chicken from kfc. One thing i learnt was i should always check some reviews on yelp before i tried a new place. I really like Slim Chickens. I like the variety that they have over some of the other chicken-only fast food in the area. My normal go to is the 3 and 3, which has 3 tenders and 3 wings. The spicy BBQ is my favorite wing sauce. It is really tasty. I've also had the chicken and waffles (dine in), but haven't had the courage to see how well it would travel. The fruit pies and desserts in a jar are also really good. It takes a lot of willpower to avoid them. I also like the unique sides they offer like the mac and cheese or the fried pickles. read more

They should take a page out of Slim Chicken's business plan - this is one good chicken shack that deserves recognition. I wanted the full experience here when I test drove some cluckers not too long ago, opting for the "Hungry Plate." This seven piece, hand-breaded tender and one side dish was served up with two dipping sauces, a slice of Texas Toast and a drink for about $8 clucks. Like others have commented, the sauces tasted homemade - ranch and honey mustard were fantastic. Fries are the normal side here but you can't upgrade to other items like fried okra (delicious), cole slaw, fried pickles, etc... There was enough on the Hungry Plate to last me for lunch the next day, a filling lot of leftovers to quench any hunger. I'm going Terminator on this place - "I'll be back" for sure. read more

This fast-casual restaurant makes some good chicken! My wife and I pretty much always split the 5 and 5 basket. Five traditional wings and five chicken tenders which comes with one side. I eat the wings and she eats about four of the tenders, leaving me one! Sides are OK we usually get the fries and the mac and cheese. The dipping sauces are also tasty but none of them are really spicy hot. Service is usually quick and friendly. If you are looking for a change of pace from the usual KFC I would recommend Slims! read more

Everything tasted great, but the prices were a touch high for fast food if you have a big appetite. I got the buffalo chicken wrap and it was tasty and not too spicy, but predictably a bit messy. The chicken was well seasoned and the breading was not overdone. The honey mustard and ranch sauces both seemed homemade and were outstanding. The food is good. The fries are thin and crispy and seasoned. The Texas Toast is ok. It used to be better with butter and garlic but lately it's just been, well, toast. The chicken is always hot, but no flavor. However, there are plenty of sauces to dip them in. The tea is delicious. The price is just OK. A little high but it's 135th in OP. You'll get full too, so you'll get your money's worth. The service is crazy slow. There's one poor lady who is there all the time. She does her best taking orders and running food out. She probably cooks too! So you can't blame her because she's a worker bee! But it's been slow for a long time. The manager needs to pony up a few dollars and hire some more cashiers at least. I waited so long in the drive-thru that I could've played 18 holes of golf, gone home, showered, gotten back in line and I still would've been in the same spot (this isn't the first time this has happened). So, out of anger and pettiness for making me wait over 20+ minutes... I paid with a $100 bill, which was then immediately met with a slight pause (holding the bill in the same spot I had handed it to them) along with an appalling facial expression. We have been coming to this location since it opened. However we have been noticing that it is getting bad. Tonight might have been the last night for us there. To start pulling in the lot this place looked closed. When we tried to go inside one of the doors was locked. After going in we noticed a note on the inside door to use other door as you could see the door closet hanging. I used to run a restaurant it's an easy fix especially with a Home Depot right down the street. Anyway. They were out of tomatoes for sandwich. The manager in blue polo was more into his phone than anything. Tables were dirty,trash was full,ice machine was empty on one coke machine. Went to get a dessert for my daughter on the way out,and was told that they were to short staffed to make any. WHAT?? There were 4 people working. Pure laziness!!! Then we noticed a note on the working door saying that due to uncontrollable circumstances they were closing early at 9 pm. Just left me hanging with not enough food to go around for my family. Terrible service. Waste of money. We've been trying the various local, fast food chicken places so we were looking forward to Slim Chickens, mainly because the food looked good and they offered grilled chicken for some of their entrees. Upon arriving, we waited at least five minutes for someone to come from the back to take our orders. We decided to get chicken tender plates because every other restaurant seems to offer that. It makes for easier comparisons. The restaurant itself looked nice. On the outside, there is a lot of glass. Inside, the dining area is pretty roomy. There are a number of TVs on the wall to watch sports if you're into that (they may show other things, but on this day it was all sports). The available tables and area around the tables weren't as clean as I'd like, but they were doable. After what seemed like a long wait, we finally got our food. We had grilled tenders with Texas toast and potato salad and regular tenders with Texas toast and french fries. We chose the mango habanero sauce and the sweet red chili sauce. Oddly, the grilled chicken tasted like eggs. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected. The Texas toast was just a bit thicker than sandwich bread and tasted like an attempt at garlic bread. The potato salad was...awful. I can't even describe what it tasted like as I've not tasted anything comparable, but I couldn't do more than three bites. The mango habanero sauce tasted like orange peel zest and was a bit too sweet with a only a hint of heat. The regular tenders tasted like breaded, unseasoned chicken. The fries were also not very seasoned so we added several small packets of ground pepper (we don't usually add or use salt) which helped a little. Overall, the food was rather bland. Also, the containers of tea were almost empty and even though a couple of patrons reported it to the person behind the counter, no one came out and refilled the containers. We were quite disappointed, especially since all of the other fast food type chicken restaurants are seemingly just down the street. We'll probably give Slim Chickens another shot sometime in the future because maybe it was just an off day. However, with better experiences at other chicken places all within close proximity, it may be a while. As it stands, I couldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

Good food but service has been deteriorating ever since they opened. Walked in with a to go order 40 min ago & just walked out with a completely wrong one. Checked it in there. Ordered & charged for 2 Mac n cheese & received ZERO. When we asked about this they said they would " make it right" with a free dessert. We didn't want dessert, just a credit or what we ordered. They then tried to argue. WE WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. 50 min of our life we won't get back. They have a ton of turnover and don't appear to know how to do business. Guessing they won't be around in 6 months. Haven't researched the corporation yet, but guessing they have sold a time or two & lost whatever value proposition launched them. If you go through the drive thru you will wait for at least 10 minutes but the wait is worth it because they definitely cook your wings right when you order. Staff also very friendly. This is my first Yelp review, as I feel like most of the time writing one is a waste of life energy. I'm making an exception today to warn my fellow chicken lovers of this Slim Chickens establishment. First of all, the fries are average and the texas toast is bland, as no butter or seasoning was applied to the bread. Now, for the star of the show, the chicken. I ordered the chicken wings with honey bbq sauce. The chicken wings came with no sauce on the actual wings, but in a minuscule condiment cup. Apparently, for sauce to come on the wings, YOU MUST SPECIALLY REQUEST THE WINGS BE "SHAKEN", although this is not stated on the menu. I was not asked whether I wanted sauce on the wings or on the side while ordering. At this establishment if you don't expressly state you want the wings and sauce "shaken", they default your order to DRY WINGS and SAUCE ON THE SIDE. This is a culinary sin. My wings were not shaken, but my confidence in Slim Chickens is. This lack of sauce on the wings created several problems during my dining experience. First, the wings tasted very dry and flavorless without the sauce. Second, the circumference of the condiment cup is not wide enough to accommodate the length of the chicken wing, so there is no way to evenly coat your wing in sauce. Third, the sauce is kept chilled, so there is an unsettling contrast in temperature between the wing and sauce. I saw many other customers order wings and receive them sans sauce, so this was not a one time mistake. In all of my years of eating at dozens of chicken wing establishments, I have NEVER seen chicken wings come with sauce on the side. I implore Slim Chickens to change this policy ASAP. There are enough problems in the world without chicken wings being served naked. read more

My husband and I were both famished and not in the mood to cook, so somehow we got fast food fried chicken on our minds! We tried the new Slim Chickens on 135th and we will definitely be back! We got one of the seven piece dinners and another of the five piece, with the standard french fries and Texas toast. This may be fast food, but it's fast food done right! The chicken tenders are real, honest-to-goodness boneless breast pieces, not something pressed, formed or otherwise tortured into something resembling a chicken shape. They are lightly floured and seasoned and fried, and come out juicy and tender and tasting like (surprise!) chicken! There's a large choice of dipping sauces. The french fries were fine -- standard crispy fast food shoestring fries, and they can be substituted with other tasty-sounding options. In addition to the tenders, wings are available, and it's possible to mix wings and tenders if you wish. We didn't try those so I don't know yet if they're whole wings or drumettes, but I'll probably try some the next time we go, which will be soon because Slim Chickens is pretty close to our humble abode. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood -- there's no reason fast food can't be honest and well-made, and that's what Slim Chickens is doing, so long may it serve! Being from South Carolina I am accustomed to a well known chicken chain known as Zaxby's (there is one in Columbia, MO). Slims and Zaxby's are very similar venues. Slims was a great experience, very clean, the prices are reasonable, meals included a drink. The teriyaki wings were great as well as the chicken fingers. The peach sweet tea couldn't have been a better compliment to my meal. I was very pleased with the service, portion size and the tastes. I recommend Slims to anyone that is a Zaxby's lover like my self it is the closest thing to it this far west. read more
