Sadly, we came at 11:30am on a weekday and they ran out of the lobster Benedict. We settled for the pork shoulder Benedict, side of country potatoes, and an antioxidant salad for lunch. The shop is cute and decorated well. It felt comforting to hang out in there after a long drive from all the way from Corona. The food was delicious and had quality ingredients. We didn't feel weighed down like we usually do after having brunch. The country potatoes were so crispy and flavorful. Kellie told us that they don't normally run out, but since it's the day before Christmas, they didn't want it to be sitting in the freezer. This tells me their shipments are fresh and worth it for another trip. read more

Great Numero Uno burger and Mahi Tacos. The steaks are thick and juicy for both, but I was less impressed with Bacon Cheddar burger with Guacamole (too strong overtake of Guacamole flavors) than Numero Uno. Consider Sweet Tator Tots-- $4 extra, but totally worth it. Good overall experience. read more

I was having a late massage about a block down the street and noticed their sign (a friend had recommended them too) so I thought it was perfect to stop in. I got seated right away and it was tough to decide off the menu. I ended up getting the grilled shrimp caprese pasta and it was amazing. Usually places with shrimp like to give just a couple...I had at least 7! Score! Parking wasn't too bad for me but I could see how it would be a pain during the week. I went on a Saturday night and found parking no problem just a block away. PS: their plain cheesecake was pretty great too! read more

Surprisingly, the food tasted so good! Good service. Sweet potato tots were small, warm and crispy. It paired well with the sauce. Chicken club with a spinach wrap with no bacon tasted perfect. It was warm and flavorful. The coleslaw and side salad were light, but tasted great too. 100% satisfied. Love the ambience. I saw a coffee or espresso flight that looked worth ordering for next time. Food was good, not amazing not great. We ordered the breakfast sandwich with tots and the Numero Uno signature burger, one matcha latte and one white peach mimosa. Came here with my friend to catch up over food, we were asked to leave about 25 minutes into our meal. They were nice, enough. They offered us boxes right away, and one of the waiters even turned to my friend and told her he has a line out the door. Strange. The vibes are cute, but maybe come when it is their down time, or pick somewhere else for a Sunday Brunch, or you will find yourself getting rushed out. read more

We only stopped in for a chai tea to go, but it was really awesome. They have lots of great stuff on the menu like coffee flights and great brunch food that we plan to go back and try. But the ambiance is really cute, especially on a rainy or foggy day because they have a fire inside. The service was super friendly and it's just a few steps away from the beach so a great place to pop in if you want to grab a coffee and then walk near the ocean. Highly recommend! read more

Came in for the first time to try brunch and it was a great experience. The ambiance was so nice, definitely loved all the flowers they have around the place. My boyfriend and I tried the fried zucchini sticks and they were ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS !! I will definitely be coming back specially for those. We also each had a mimosas flight and they have A TON of flavors to choose from. We tried the lobster eggs Benedict, wasn't what I pictured in my head but, I was super tasty! Our server was also super sweet and very attentive, I feel bad I didn't get her name but we definitely look forward to coming back again real soon read more

[Review #443] 2019 Yelp 100 Challenge (95/100) OTM Club 07/07/19-07/13/19 This week's OTM Club offerings were really out of the way except for Sloopy's Beach Cafe; it's practically in my backyard but local traffic prevents it from being an easy drive (still took 30+ mins.). :-O OTM Club/Sloopy's SUSHI BURRITO (nori, sushi rice, sriracha aioli, spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, carrots, cucumber, wonton strips) is a temptation I can't resist even though I never visited the restaurant. I was a bit concerned about parking & couldn't figure out where is the private lot; luckily I scored a metered space out front with plenty of minutes left. Yay! En route to the restaurant, I said I was redeeming the OTM Club offer & adding a regular order (Sushi Burrito). I was told I had to enjoy my offer at the restaurant, no takeout. =( Not a big deal, but I wanted to enjoy it with my hubby who was home because he was feeling well to eat out. I picked a window seat by the entrance while I waited for my order, & it came quickly. The OTM Club Sushi Burrito is smaller than the sizable regular burrito, so it wasn't filling but satisfies your taste buds. Good flavor, but uneven ratio of protein to rice, there was too much rice overwhelming the spicy tuna & tempura shrimp. I liked the heat from aioli, & added texture from the wonton strips & shrimp. The burrito held up quite well & didn't fall apart like some other purveyors. The regular size burrito was indeed filling; according to my hubby, it was quite enjoyable & satisfying. However, due to the long drive, there was condensation causing the shoestring fries to be lukewarm & somewhat limpy. I had a couple during my drive home & they were pretty good, though not all were crispy. I liked the restaurant's atmosphere/dining room... very zen & tropical feel; there's also an outdoor patio in the back. Service is friendly & efficient... a bit chillax so if you're in a hurry, you better let your server know to get you in & out quick. Prices lean on the pricey side (because of location, ingredients?); I haven't figured out if it's worth it yet until I explore the rest of their menu. Parking is definitely an issue in this area (need to know/confirm if they have a private lot)... while there's lots of metered parking, this location is also primed with eateries & businesses so it's a definite challenge to get a decent, walkable spot. And they're in effect daily, including weekends so make sure you fill up that meter! Sloopy's looks like a fun place to relax after a day at the beach; it has a decent menu with something for everyone, including kiddos. I look forward to chillin' here soon... ;-) Recommended: Sushi Burrito. read more

I loved this place! It's two blocks away from the beach and the view is great. Coming here feels like your transported to an island oasis. There's so many flowers and greenery and it makes it super cozy. I recommend making a reservation because it's a popular spot. Parking is relatively easy to find as well because there are a lot of side streets. Food was pretty good as well! My friend got the burger and truffle fries and I got the mushroom toast with poached eggs and it came with a side salad. I'd definitely come here again! read more

I visited Manhattan Beach this past weekend and this restaurant was by far my favorite spot! The atmosphere was beautiful with all the plants and fireplace. The service was quick and super friendly -- Jackie was attentive and always refilled my coffee cup before I knew it was empty! My favorite dish was the breakfast blt with brie and definitely get the sweet potato tots (it's worth the upgrade!) This will be my go-to spot everytime I visit MB :). read more

Sloppys!!! We started the meal off with their famous zucchini sticks $14. Fried to crispy perfection. This time i tried their Berry BBQ sandi with sweet potato tater tots $17.95 (+ a hidden $4 up charge for the tots, I mean I can see a buck or two but $4?). Both were good, but the chicken on the Sammy could have been thicker/bigger. BF got the bacon and cheddar guacamole burger $18.95 and it was so delicious as you can taste the char. He got mashed potatoes as his side and they were off the chain and my favorite item of the meal. Perfectly creamy and buttery. Bill with tip came to over $70 (for a couple of sandwiches and some fried zucchini) but it sure did taste good. And the ambiance is always amazing at this beach haven. read more

The bacon cheddar guac burger at Sloopy's Beach Cafe, located in the beautiful El Porto neighborhood of Manhattan Beach, CA was a killer meal. Sloopy's has been a local favorite for over 50 years just steps from the Pacific Ocean. The poppy seed bun was toasted perfectly giving a nice crunch. The guac was fresh and packed with the perfect amount of lime. Everyone loves bacon and this addition was solid. Thin crispy bacon to not take away from the burgers flavor. Great fries, great service, and an A+ atmosphere. Highly recommend for brunch, and a low key amazing dinner menu! read more

Decided to grab brunch here because I loved the vibe I got from the photos--all the plants really drew me in! Seemed like a cute lil place to enjoy breakfast & it met my expectations! The bacon breakfast sandwich I got was super yummy, as well as the iced mocha! Our server was attentive & kind. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I waited about 15 or so minutes to get my iced mocha, while my date had already drank about half of their cup of coffee. The servers are Sloopy's are great. They're kind and they move quickly. Unfortunately, though, the food truly was not so great. The majority of the food was not seasoned, and each order was missing an item. The bistro burger was not seasoned, and it was missing bacon. The breakfast tacos were decent, but low quality. The one item that was a solid 7/10 was the French toast, which I figured might've been most popular. The environment/ambiance was lovely, I was just thoroughly disappointed with food quality. read more

The service was great and accommodating as far as putting our tables together (as we were a group of eight) and....It did take over 15 minutes to receive our "flights" of champagne...however, they were presented very elegantly . I felt comfortable and relaxed in the environment and would have stayed longer. As far as the Crispy Brussel Sprouts....I'm going to give them an A+ ; however, my BLT Breakfast Sandwich....C- . The most important part of the sandwich (the pork shoulder) was the size of a quarter with no avocado on one side of my sandwich...I ask for the fig glaze on the side (I didn't receive) ordered the extra: Brie ...never received...lots and lots of egg whites Very disappointed about the pork shoulder quarter size on both sides of my sandwich. The rest of my group said they enjoyed their meal. read more

At first glance this place is beautiful! The decor and the coziness feeling was so warm and inviting. You walk in and there's a little wood fire that kept the front of the restaurant warm and throughout the restaurant they had heaters to keep us warm! The service is quick! The staff is super friendly and very attentive anything we needed they brought it in a jiffy. Based off the photos online the food looked very enticing and delicious. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me. Don't get me wrong the presentation was nice but the flavor wasn't there for me. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and they were absolutely delicious, sweet and a bit of spicy! It made me excited to try the rest of it. I went half with my sister and we got the berry bbq chicken sandwich and the black and blue burger. What it lacked was flavor. It needed a little more love and seasoning it just tasted plain and bland. I also got the potatoes and it was a bit of a let down. This place has everything going for them but it just needed more flavor! I would be back for their drinks! The food just needs a little work. There are so many great things to say about this place... The food is really great, crispy Brussel sprouts, bacon, sweet potato tots or salmon All so delicious! Get the mimosa flight or if you are going for the very awesome burger have one of their craft beers!! The staff are awesome, like they are your small town crew. I had a group of 6, they let me reserve table and I didn't have to wait for all of group to arrive to be seated. It feels like they all love this place and are happy to see you. The place was great, staff was nice and very accommodating. The ambiance was nice they had 3 levels of seating for desired privacy. They were willing to make whatever I wanted with everything I wanted and even gave suggestions. I ended up getting the portobello mushrooms burger with kimchi and sprouts for a lil spice. Street Parking , catch it if you can or park two blocks away in free, a covered parking structure and walk an incline to restaurant. It has a store front appearance, so don't miss it. Picture a quiet Rain Forest restaurant well lite vibe. A live tree is growing in the middle of the restaurant. Service is great, you're greeted at the door. Small two-party tables and chairs comfortable for size 6-10 behinds. Seating inside is adequate with tables for various size parties. Chairs are still small and hard. I ordered a avocado toast that was excellent. read more

These plants appeared to have union representation. They're everywhere. Hanging from things. Growing out of things. Quietly observing your meal. The whole place feels like someone built a really nice restaurant and then let nature move in as a long term tenant. The room hums. Not loudly. Not aggressively. Just enough. Glasses clink. People lean into conversations. Servers weave through the room carrying plates that look heavy enough to alter their center of gravity. Nobody seems rushed. Everybody seems busy. It's a difficult balance. The biscuits arrived first. Now, I'd heard about the biscuits. People talk about these biscuits the way fishermen talk about the one that got away. Slightly dramatic. A little emotional. Hard to verify. Turns out the stories were true. Warm bacon cheddar biscuits with maple butter. I took one bite and immediately understood why people order a second round. The outside has just enough structure to remind you it's baked. The inside is soft enough to make you wonder whether butter has secretly become a building material. We ordered another. Not because we needed another. Because apparently that's what happens here. The creamy polenta showed up next and felt like the culinary equivalent of a weighted blanket. Comforting. Smooth. Relaxed. The sort of dish that encourages you to slow down and stop checking your phone. The duck was one of my favorites. Lightly fried with crisp skin and tender meat, resting on white Italian beans and rosemary. It felt like something a French chef would cook after spending a weekend in the countryside and becoming briefly inspired by fresh air. At some point you stop evaluating food and simply nod in agreement with it. This was one of those moments. Dessert was equally dangerous. The olive oil cake arrived with strawberries and disappeared much faster than logic suggested it should. The cheesecake somehow managed to be rich and light at the same time, which feels like it should violate a law of physics somewhere. Service deserves its own mention. The whole team operates like a group project where everyone actually did their part. Plates appeared when they should. Water glasses mysteriously refilled themselves. Questions were answered without anyone making you feel like you should already know the answer. The chef's French influence shows up everywhere, but not in a showy way. Nothing feels complicated for the sake of being complicated. Everything feels like somebody spent a lot of time thinking about it so you wouldn't have to. By the end of the meal, I realized Manhattan Beach Post had done something difficult. It felt special without feeling serious. You can dress up. You can come casually. Some of the pieces were rarer while others were more well-done even though we asked for medium rare. There were also some dry pieces which I did not like. Flavor was good though. - Strawberry and Olive Oil Cake: Was confused since there was just a thin layer of cake, but realized the title also referred to the mousse. I would title it 'Strawberry Mousse with Olive Oil Cake" to make it less confusing. Regardless, this was a delicious dessert! Love the fruity strawberry and savory pistachio flavors as well as the smooth textures. - S'mores sundae: Got this on the house for my aunt's birthday. A generous portion but the components were a bit too sweet for my liking. I visited this restaurant for a birthday that I organized and my experience was overall good. Reservation was made easy using OpenTable and I could also mention it was for a birthday occasion. The ambiance was gorgeous with good mood lighting. Good for group and 1 on 1 dining. Parking is metered or street parking. Overall, I probably wouldn't come out of my way to dine here again, but my experience wasn't bad just not significant enough to put in my rotation. Would come back if someone treated me here though.

While prior visits to the restaurant have consistently met high standards of quality and service, several service and billing issues during the most recent visit resulted in dissatisfaction and concern regarding the accuracy of the final bill and tip calculation. Following a lengthy day of medical appointments and a 90-minute drive from UCLA during rush hour traffic, my wife and I decided to dine at Tin Roof Bistro rather than return home to prepare a meal. Based on previous positive experiences, we expected the same level of quality and service historically associated with the establishment. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and initially received courteous service from our waiter, Brandon. However, several issues arose throughout the course of the meal: We ordered two glasses of wine shortly after being seated. Despite the simplicity of the order, the beverages were not delivered in a timely manner. Our order included: * A Caesar salad to share * Bread service * Two entrées After an extended wait period, I reminded the waiter that the Caesar salad had not yet been served. The salad was then delivered promptly following the reminder. At the time the salad arrived, I specifically requested that the entrées not be brought out until we had finished the salad course. Despite this request, the entrées were delivered within minutes, before we had consumed more than a few bites of the salad. We asked staff to remove the entrées temporarily until we completed the appetizer course. The entrées were eventually re-served and were of good quality. Billing and Point-of-Sale Concerns The primary concern arose during the payment process. The electronic payment screen initially appeared accurate with respect to the total amount due. Based on the displayed total, I elected to leave a 20% gratuity despite the service shortcomings experienced during the meal. After requesting a printed receipt, I discovered the following: * The entrées had been entered twice on the bill. * A corresponding credit had been applied to offset the duplicate charge. * The gratuity calculation, however, appeared to be based on the inflated subtotal before the duplicate entrée credit was applied. This duplicate entry increased the apparent bill total by approximately 54%, which in turn increased the calculated tip amount accordingly. Due to fatigue at the time, I chose not to pursue the matter with management during the visit. However, I also observed a nearby table returning an order, which raises concern that similar billing or service issues may have affected other customers. Concerns and Recommendations Given the increasing public discussion surrounding questionable tipping and point-of-sale practices, this experience raises concerns regarding whether: 1. The issue resulted from an employee action, or 2. The POS system is improperly calculating gratuity suggestions based on inaccurate pre-adjustment totals. While I cannot determine whether this incident was intentional, I strongly recommend that Tin Roof Bistro review its POS system configuration and billing procedures to ensure gratuity calculations are based solely on the actual final total owed by the customer. Additionally, improved coordination between kitchen staff and servers regarding course timing would significantly improve the dining experience. This experience was disappointing, particularly because Tin Roof Bistro has historically maintained a high standard of service and consistency. Although the food quality remained good, the service delays and billing irregularities negatively impacted the overall experience. Should I choose to dine at TRB again, I will pay closer attention to the billing and gratuity calculations before completing payment.
