I wonder if this place has changed ownership or something, based on the slew of negative reviews. Maybe I just went in with low expectations, but Sly McFly's was a decent place to grab lunch in Monterey! My caesar salad was fresh, and everyone else seemed to enjoy their sandwiches, burgers, and flatbread pizzas. I would particularly recommend the spicy shrimp po'boy. Our waitress was super nice and the food came out quickly. The prices were also very reasonable. Most lunch dishes are around $12--no crazy markup due to the location near the aquarium! The restaurant is filled with motor racing memorabilia, which definitely adds to the casual atmosphere. They also have live music 7 nights a week. The food was not good, my wife had the chicken fettucine Alfredo and the chicken was bland, and the sauce tasted like she was eating heavy cream as a sauce. I had their signature burger and fries. The fries were good, the burger was okay at best. It came out well done even though they asked my preference and I asked for medium. Everything but the fries and the bacon on the burger was bland. The staff were friendly and the place seemed nice, so maybe the cooks were having an off day, but can't be charging $21 for a burger when a Jack in the box burger tastes better. I'm reviewing the drinks, music, and ambiance only!! Money Band plays here quite frequently on Friday nights. We discovered them a couple of years ago and now go to see them at least 4 times a year. Sly's has a great array of cocktails and totally competent waitresses and bartenders which is very important in a crazy busy place!! The dance floor gets very crowded with this band as they are awesome but the bouncers keep a great eye out! Last week I had a guy backing into me and hitting me due to his erratic dance moves because he was out of control. This a sports pub bar thingy right off cannery row itself. Parking is street only which means there is no parking but there's a garage not even a block away on prescott. It'll cost you, but so will every surface lot, garage, and metered street spot anywhere nearby. So this is large-ish bar replete with sporty stuff adorning the walls and distracting televisions. If you aren't here to watch the game, the good news is that unless you are seated at a table right next to one, you won't have to hear. The bad news is that that is partly because of all the other noise in the place. Lots and lots of seating, both for couples and for large family groups, with room for about a dozen or so at the super popular bar. Judging by the daytime acoustics I'd say stay for the music only if you like it loud or have earplugs. Call it a hunch. Dining room decor is of the wooden euro pub style and the view out the windows in the daytime is good verging on great. Decent spot to watch the peeps go by that statue thingy outside, with a sliver of ocean to admire. About the food. Well, you are at the center of cannery row, in a restaurant named Sly Mcfly's. So like every other restaurant nearby with or without a gimmicky name the food will be both overpriced and at best just average. Think slightly better then airport dining quality. It's the curse of the destination location. So why the four stars then? Well as restaurant this is just okay, but as a spot to drink beer or other bar type alcoholic stuff this is a decent choice. The bar pricing is fairer then the food, the service is swift and efficient, both the bartender and the waitstaff were able to make some solid recommendations, they have a limited but tasty selection of local taps, the view is nice, the inside is climate controlled (ac and heating for the win), and while the food isn't anything to rave on about the fried pub style appetizers are perfect with a couple of pints. I've said it before and I'll say it again-perfect is the enemy of good enough, and this place is good enough. Especially for some beer and chips action. read more

Food was the worst I ever had, clam chowder was cold and fish tacos had a piece of soggy skin and it wasn't the batter. The customer service was horrible. I guess we should have took a minute to glance at the Yelp reviews before popping in, our mission being to gorge ourselves on fresh crabcakes. If "fresh crabcakes" entail canned meat overly breaded in cardboardy crumbs, then slap me silly and call me redonkulous. The appetizer left us majorly disappointed, and maybe we shouldn't have expected fresh seafood right off Cannery Row in lovely Monterey in the first place. My friend tried a cup of the clam chowder and said it tasted like it came out of a bag. Service was a little sluggish. Now on to the food and customer service wasn't so bad I thought it was average okay overall, BUT my boyfriend did not approve of this place. He ordered clam chowder with bread bowl, I also tried it but I don't mind the garlic and onions since I'm a fan of those but if you don't like neither of those DO NOT COME AND TRY their clam chowder. It comes with a lot of onion too. I ordered a BLAT(Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado and Tomato) sandwich which was cold... it was weird the bread was slightly warm though, then my fries on the side was slightly warm also. The only reason why I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because, 1. Their water tasted fishy, and dirty. 2. If you want live music on famous Cannery Row on a weekend at lunchtime Sly's is the place. The live music is what brought us in. Great views of bay also! We sat closer to the bar and music so no bay views for us. We, (us girls) came in for lunch and booze. Bloody Mary for me. Spicy and tasty with the essential garnished goodies for $9. Two of us ordered the Snapper Sandwich, $11.49. With a lightly buttered and toasted roll the Snapper Sandwich was on point! Tomato and lettuce and a generous filet of flaky snapper adorned the roll. Super tasty! I would recommend this Sammy if you enjoy fish sammys. I got mine with the side of slaw. Bleh. Skip it, too much dressing. Very watery. No big deal. Not a deal breaker as I was there for the snapper sandwich and booze! We both really enjoyed our meal. Couldn't get over how fresh and "melt in your mouth" the Snapper was. I would give 0 star if the food is not that reasonable. We stopped by on Nov 30th at noon, here are what happened: 1. No utensils provided when the appetizer was served. No way to find the waitress who helped us to order, have to figure out where were the utensils located in the restaurants by ourselves 2. We ordered Street Tacos with shrimp, but it came with chicken. 3. We tried to ask help from the waitress to change the tacos, as she was standing by next table at then. However, it became impossible as she kept talking with the ladies next table for about 10 mins, without giving us a glance even at once. Amazing food and service! We are staying in Big Sur and decided to do a day trip to Monterey. We walked down the street and saw Slys. So glad we stopped! Family of four, two adults two kids. The food was alright but the service and advertised live music left much to be desired... We came in for dinner over a holiday weekend, realizing that everywhere is going to be busy, but were pleased to be seated with no real wait. However, the staff were very busy not being managed well at all. For example, there were not enough menus for our small group of 3, so two of us had to share. We didn't receive silverware or napkins until after our food had arrived and we had to ask for it. Reluctantly we all were given forks and knives and they didn't seem to happy to be giving them to us. The water cups were also quite small and very cheap plastic, not what I'd expect for a "sit-down" restaurant Our food was okay, however. I had a caesar salad which was adequate - no frills and very plainly plated. Our server expressed that the timing in the kitchen was maybe not what she was expecting, and that some of the food was ready but some still was not. I think this showed as the croutons on my salad were completely chewy and soggy with dressing while the black bean burger we ordered was piping hot and fresh off the grittle. As advertised, there was live music (or, kind of...). A small band was playing music with a live singer and live drummer, but the guitarists were doing a bad job of convincing us that they were playing their instruments. Their hands weren't moving with the music's riffs and the fact that they didn't participate in sound check was pretty lame. Hopefully they got a nice paycheck for it, anyway. Overall I would not recommend dining here. While I respect that the management took the time to respond to my review, it is full of half-truths and conflicting information. Management stated "Anyone conducting themselves in the manner described above would be promptly removed from the premise", however in Item #4, they admitted Party 1 was the aggressor AND they let them stay. The wedding party chose to leave because we did not feel SAFE there while the other party was allowed to stay without ANY consequence. Would you feel safe trying to enjoy yourself where the person that just attacked you was allowed to carry on like nothing happened? Additionally, no one from our party was denied service for being intoxicated as management stated in Item #5. Lastly, it was our party that contacted the police immediately after the incident (not later) which is the ONLY reason why management had a police report to refer to in the first place. When the police finally arrived, the victim in our party identified the female aggressor in Party 1, so management's statement in Item #1 that "both parties refused to identify the aggressors" is not true at all. Again I'd like to thank Sly McFly's for their lengthy response because it clearly demonstrates that this establishment's poor customer service and lack of accountability which so many other reviewers have expressed starts at the top with management. read more

I will never return to Slimy McFly's after the experience we had last night. We had a group of ~20 people that tried to go to this bar for the after-party following my wedding. Within minutes of arriving, a woman assaulted and battered one of my guests by literally jumping across a table to attack her. What did she do wrong? She momentarily sat in an unoccupied chair that the woman claimed was for her group. The bouncer and manager of the bar got involved and said things were "squashed" because the woman was not attacking anyone any longer. They refused to remove the group that not only attacked my party but, as we learned outside, attacked a couple women visiting from the UK too. The bouncer claimed he was "sorry" for not doing anything because the manager refused to remove anyone. It seemed like a fake apology since no action was taken to ensure the safety and enjoyment of their guests. After the bar decided to do nothing, we called the Monterey Police and 5 police officers arrived to take statements. The police are actively investigating what happened. If you care about your safety or that of your friends, find any other bar. It's simply not worth the risk of getting hurt to come to this place. 5/30/2019 Update: In response to the owner's comments, I'd encourage him to point out what part of this review is misleading or not 100% factual. The police were immediately called and my party identified the woman that battered my guest. We also filed a police report which is why they requested the video evidence. We did so following your establishment's lack of appropriate response during the incident. We have also contacted local hotels in the area to inform them of what took place because when we are spending over $500/night for a luxury hotel, we find it irresponsible for them to be recommending your establishment. read more

Ugh where can I start, upon entering floor boards are separating. One was kept together with tape. Food was blah, but the Server L. CIRILO.!!!! was mediocre & GROSS due to either laziness or lack of training. I was a server many moons ago.
