Meh. Been looking forward to coming here, I love a good Reuben. Came here on a Friday night with my husband. Seated immediately, place looks clean. Started off with fried pickles--decent, hot, fresh. The potato pancakes were disappointing... super thin, deep fried, hard and greasy. Couldn't really tell they were potato. My reuben arrived, looked good, rye bread was hot, but the meat was cold. Swiss cheese was cold, thin and such to the bun (and it was a $2 upcharge). Not enough saurkraut, but still ok. Just disappointed that the meat was cold. My husband had the fish and chips.... very disappointing, fish and chips tasted like they were straight from the freezer. The good? Service was good, server checked on us frequently, my husband said the Fatheads Headhunter was the best he's had (lines were clean). Overall we were disappointed. One of the most iconic food stops in Cleveland is Slyman's Restaurant. Serving up the best corned beef in town (and IMHO, anywhere) for years and years- it's an essential taste of the Cleveland landscape. Slyman's Tavern had a lot of pressure to be just as great and I say, with a mouthful of soft pretzels, they certainly are great. My first stop to SLyman's Tavern was a few years ago and for BREAKFAST instead of a corned beef sandwich. I was wowed from the start. The breakfast buffet was awesome. So much variety and delicious, well-prepared food to choose from. The mark of a good breakfast spot for me is a tasty Bloody Mary. Slyman's has an impressive bloody mary bar with all the fixins you can imagine and even some you can't! The mix was perfect and really made my Sunday. My most recent experience was just as satisfying. A friend and I shared some appetizers and even though I ordered the Lite-size Reuben, there was still a half of a sandwich left to take home. Flavorful corned beef, non-soggy fresh bread and a tangy kraut. We shared some fried pickles, a soft pretzel and Slyman's fries. (Her hubby was the beneficiary of our leftovers) It's not cheap eats, but it is good eats. The restaurant itself is clean, decorated in a fun way and service is usually friendly and prompt. Lives up to the hype! I had seen the original Slyman's on countless Food Network and Travel Channel shows, but never made it there so I was ecstatic to find a Slymans Tavern right near our hotel so we knew we had to go! This location is kind of secluded as it is in the back of a stripmall off of the main road as I had some trouble finding it with my navigation system. Once inside I was happy to see the Cavs NBA Finals game on as our hotel had Direct TV and it was out due to a rain storm. Slymans Tavern kind of reminds me of Primanti Bros back home in Pittsburgh as they are both sports bar food establishments that are well known for their killer sandwiches. I had already studied the menu so I knew that I wanted to try one of their world famous huge corned beef sandwiches, but I was not really that hungry the night we went and knew I couldn't finish one so I got something else. Since I wanted to sample their corned beef I decided to try the Slyman Fries so that's what I chose. They feature crinkle fries that are covered with corned beef shavings, melted swiss cheese and then topped with green onions. My wife chose the SLY-MAN Sliders which features a blend of ground beef and corned beef with melted swiss, onions and their signature sauce and come on toasted pretzel buns. Our daughter got a cheeseburger with crinkle fries also. It featured a 1/2 pound grilled patty served on a toasted artisan roll with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle. As we were waiting for our food I checked in on Yelp and to my surprise I saw that they give you a free order of Slyman Fries just for it being your first check in there on Yelp! Score! A few minutes later our food arrived. Let me just say that my Slyman Fries were infreakincredible! Tons of tender, juicy, succulent corned beef and lots of melted cheese! So good! I had a bite of my wife's SLY-MAN Sliders and they were amazing as well! Our daughter loved her burger as well. Finally got to try Slymans Tavern! Of course when anyone has out of towners come in, you should always take them out for a some quality corned beef sandwich. The ambiance is definitely nice and comical since they have the three stooges theme going on. There is a great and big selection of beer!! I ordered the corned beef Reuben which was large in size but not as large as the downtown slymans. They just recently opened this week so I know it will take some time for them to get used to the new equipment they have here, so people should give them time to adjust. Just like any restaurant the first weeks are always inconsistent with the quality and taste of the food. The texture of the sandwich was good but the meat was a bit dry. Their french fries was ordered separately and was delicious as well.. the best part was that they were crinkled cut fries!!! Overall I would give them a 4 star rating because the service was amazing and the food and drinks were good!! I'm sure once they get used to the new equipment that their corned beef would be AMAZING!!! Definitely will come back to give them a try again! read more

We were seated right away which ends the only reason to give it any stars. Waited over 10 minutes just to drinks. Not sure if it was a mix up on waitresses or what but we ended up with Angela. She was extremely slow and somewhat careless. Even brought us the wrong drinks and dropped peoples money and walked away from it. Rueben poppers were ok. I had a corned beef and I ordered it with horseradish and mustard. Only came with horseradish. Having had slymans before from what up on st. Clair, I was ready for it. Nope must not be related at all. Sandwich was cold, dry, and if it wasn't for the pickle would have been more of a wasted of time and money. Wife said the same thing about her turkey sandwich. This was a lot of fun. My 10-year-old grandson has enjoyed quite a few Reubens lately, in other restaurants. So of course, I needed to bring him here. The sandwiches are huge! Everyone's food was good. We sat in the dining room rather than the tavern. There were quite a few people, mid-afternoon on a Sunday. People were spaced out and servers were wearing masks. It was about 75° in there, which felt quite warm. Eventually, we got used to it. The bathrooms are definitely not cleaned very often. It was a very slow night they only had about 6 tables to serve the wait for a server very long the wait for our order to come even longer and it even took long. Where are two drinks at the bar !! Then when they brought her food out, her orders were wrong I asked for a roast beef sandwich, hot toasted, and my daughter-in-law asked for plain pierogies which they brought me a corn beef sandwich out and they brought her loaded pierogies we had to return her meals my son had his so he was trying to wait for us, but his food was getting cold. They brought me out a roast beef sandwich with corn beef all over my bread and plate, and it was not hot I was a little upset, so now the third time it came out my daughters pierogies were overcooked dry and hard and my sandwich came back finally hot but with corn beef all over the plate when I asked to talk to the manager, he came to the table pretty upset and asked what the problem was and when I tried to explain it to him, he tried to remove my plate and told me that he would just take it off and not charge us for it so I am stuck here with no food when I told him that there was corn beef all over it I said that's cross-contamination and he yelled at me that no it's not meat is meat. I don't know if they're using the same utensils, and not properly washing them or what they're doing back there, but if all the meat is just getting mixed up on all the plates , that's really gross. He said he would give us 25% off of our bill which I thought was absolutely ridiculous because you made me wait for three meals that were not properly prepared and then when we split the bill between the four of us only one person got 25% off of their bill , not both of us considering two of our plates were messed up. I don't understand the behavior of the manager he was not sorry he didn't care. He was very rude and mean about everything like we were a total inconvenience and our server you repeated the order twice to her, and it still came out wrong so I don't know what was going on on her end. Maybe she was having a bad evening, but I do not recommend this place. My sandwich was subpar. You're in the restaurant business and you should have courtesy and grace that even if things aren't going right in the kitchen, you should still have employees that want to take care of things properly and all I kept thinking about is the movie casino when Joe Pesci spit in the police officers food and that's all I kept thinking about I was inside my sandwich, even though I examined it That movie played out in my head. This is an excellent sandwich shop to bring a toddler. We came here for lunch and we're immediately sat with crayons and a child's water. Awful experience. It took maybe 15 minutes or so for our server to arrive at our table to take our drink order. My husband and I dined w/another couple. Our fried mozz cheese appetizer was edible. But our sandwich was greasy and overall just full of fatty meat. The 2 stars are for my excellent cocktail and that is it. Slymans's is just not Slyman's anymore. Big disappointment today. Decided to have dinner out after a very stressful week. My husband and I chose to sit at the bar to enjoy our dinner. Well was not a great experience. 1). Was not greeted 2 ) Ignored by bartender for several minutes. Was more worried about pouring shots for a customer and staff. Wow ! I can go on but not worth it. She was horrific .. The establishment is great and the servers are always on target .. I sure hope she was having an off day today. I did a 2 star only because the food was just ok. Sad. We ordered the family sandwich party pack on their online ordering site and let's just say- what a joke. It is advertised as being enough for 4-6 people, yet they don't put down how much meat you are getting. Turns out it's 1.5lbs total for that order...yet they give you a full loaf of bread? If they had advertised on their site that it was that small I would have gotten larges....food is great and staff are fine but I what a rip off. A giant corned beef sandwich was an enormous portion for one person to eat, but everything was sliced nice and thin so you're still able to chew everything up with no problems. I guess this one has gotten too big for its britches. It's 2 o'clock on a Wednesday--the place is mid filled up to medium plus fulled up and everyone's quietly chatting waiting or dining. Seated right away but they put me in the VERY last table in the last row by the open door on this humid day. I guess everybody forgot that. I did see a server for that entire section stop at the table next to me, bring food to the table in front of me and go to take care of the people that got seated after me three tables ahead. I waited a few more minutes when that same server came all the way down to the table next to me and checked on them and the other 5-6 tables in the long roll of double tables that I was seated in and skipped over me again. I got up and walked out --not happy. This is NOT service!!! I don't understand why they closed the Harvard location because Harvard stood on a star. They were always filled up hour after hour day after day week after week and got more so after Bahama breeze closed during the pandemic, they had to be making money hand over fist so I don't understand unless no help willing to work. I'd still go there if they were open and that's about 15 miles further than I came to go to this one but when I was going there, they all wanted to work. I won't be coming back here again. It was easy to get a table at 6pm for our large group. There were several tables filled close to us but it was easy to hear conversations at our table. The server/bartender gave good service especially considering short staffing. The happy hour specials run into dinner time and were good options. Slyman's Tavern is kind of confusing mashup between deli and bar. I'm not entirely sure which it wanted to be or which it should be. In Slyman's tradition the focus of the menu is corned beef and it delivers. The corned beef sandwich was very lean and loaded with meat. Another person in our group tried the pastrami and left disappointed in the fat/gristle level in this compared to the corned beef. None of the sides were impressive as the coleslaw etc all seemed run of the mill. Overall, go for the corned beef or don't go at all. read more
