Lobster roll is really good, if you like it cold, get the regular roll on milk bread. The lobster guac is really creamy and tasty, it's a little pricey but they put a lot of lobster chunks on top. Recently had an early dinner here. Unfortunately the experience was far from positive. One, the wait staff was disengaged. This even though there were only literally a couple of tables occupied. Went to the Smack shack for our anniversary last night! $5 valet parking, well worth it! We did not have reservations and got seated within 10 min. Our waiter was fantastic, Jakub! He made great recommendations and explained the menu perfectly for first timers. Drinks were brought very promptly! Been here 4 times now. Once for brunch, once for lunch and twice for happy hour. Cool space and the service has been pretty good. Happy hour is the way to go. $1 fries, $1 oyster, $5 bacon mac and cheese, $2 off pints, etc. Good deal. Giving the place four stars for its HH. I was very disappointed in my meal. I am not a seafood fan but was there with my team from work. I'll order the steak which was very expensive. I ordered the steak medium rare. The steak came medium well too well done it was brown inside. I returned the steak and ask them to prepare it correctly. The next steak came and was medium it was somewhat pink inside. Unfortunately the flavor was really bad it was like the steak was either previously frozen or was starting to turn. The waitress suggested the lamb sandwich so I ordered that instead. Unfortunately the slaw that comes on the lamb sandwich includes fennel seed which gives it a very odd taste which I felt completely objectionable. At this point my team was done eating everyone else seem to have an okay time but most said that they would prefer not to eat there again. this chef never came to speak to me about the steaks nor about the lamb there was no apology but we were not charged for those items. Honestly I kind of felt like they were busy they were making plenty of money and they really didn't give a damn. I don't recommend them. read more

Went there last week with family. The food tasted OK, but we thought it was WAY over-priced for what you get. My daughter ordered crabg egs benedict, and instead of being on english muffins, they were 2 small, 50 cent piece sized portions. He had the lobster (served lazy - pre cracked) and I had the jumbo shrimp. both plates were over flowing - tasted great - almost too much :) although it was so busy we had to wait for 1/2 hour for outside seating (rather cold but tolerable ), service was great (fast and attentive). we were here with a party of 8 on 7/25/15. 4 of us ordered lobster, and three of the four had very overcooked? rubbery, hard to chew lobster. definately NOT what we were expecting for the price! one at our table ordered the fried green tomatoes and they arrived DRIPPING with grease, so much so that they were mushy. the restaurant is extremely loud. the positives are that the building is super cool, we arrived early and were seated within minutes. the french fries were delicious. my drink (gingertini) was superb but again, highly priced. read more

Called ahead to ask about parking and was told there is metered street parking, but it was really hit or miss, or could valet for a cost of $7. With 5 minutes of patience, we were able to find parking a few minutes walk away for $2 covering the a reasonably drawn out dinner. We ordered a half dozen mixed set of oysters that were very good just on the smaller side....which isn't always a terrible thing. My partner ordered the Lobster Cioppino and I ordered a Connecticut style Lobster Roll. The serving sizes were more than adequate with the Cioppino including some fish, and generous portions of both lobster, giant shrimp, and mussels all of which mended together beautifully with the sauce. The roll was warm buttery goodness with plenty of lobster and just the right size, not extremely large, but enough to get a decent fill. Service was impeccable with the servers taking their time to provide travel tips to visitors to get the most of of their weekend trip to Minneapolis. Why not 5 stars? Those are reserved for the best can't miss restaurants ever....this one falls slightly outside that category. read more

We are in the area on an extended stay. So we have had the opportunity to visit the smack shack several times. Over the course of our visits we have had the King Crab dip, Oysters Rockefeller, Shrimp Boil, Lobster Boil, Lobster Mac N Cheese, Shrimp and Grits, and both Lobster Rolls. Out of everything we have tried our favorites by far are the lobster rolls. They are packed with lobster meat. Not just a tiny bit, but packed! They are full of flavor and are very yummy. The Lobster Mac and Cheese is also good. We are not real fans of the shrimp or lobster boils. There is just not much in the shrimp boil sides included to make it worth the price. Our lobster boils (2) was ok, in one the claws were cooked but the tail was undercooked. In the other the lobster was rather tough and chewy and we did not finish either. As far as the apps go the king crab dip was fabulous! The oysters good just not the best I've ever had. A major plus is that the staff is kind, and gracious. The outdoor seating is wonderful. When cold they have nice heaters that keep you cozy or you can eat inside. Overall this is a nice, clean place that we will revisit. read more

My husband and I ate at the Smack Shack for the first time tonight. We did not have a reservation but were early enough to grab a high top table for happy hour in the bar. The music, beer selection, clams and oysters were great. We found the short rib tacos to be a bit greasy and lacking in flavor. My husband thought the lobster guac was excellent but I thought it was just okay. We both feel it was over priced. The lobster boil was fantastic and the lobster roll was just okay. I did not care for the toast and would have preferred a roll but I think that is just my personal preference as I am not a "toast person". The key lime pie was perfect and our server, Madison, was outstanding. We look forward to coming back! read more

I've been to the SS three times this year, and each experience was an excellent one. My first experience was a retirement dinner, gratis from an old girlfriend. We tried the happy hour in the bar before being seated outside for dinner. Wow! The appetizers for happy hour were both unique and delicious. My favorite were the mini tacos of pulled pork and pickled onions. Because we had heard so much about the lobster rolls we each had one for dinner. This is how lobster rolls should be, both the cold and hot ones. They were packed with lobster, and delicious. Service was excellent and attentive all three times. My only suggestion would be to experiment a bit more with the dressing for the lobster rolls. An aioli or something with a little zing to it would make the lobster rolls first class. After hearing so many great reviews from close friends, my husband and I decided to have dinner here for my birthday last week. We did not make a reservation because it was a Thursday night and didn't think we'd need one but it appeared we were pretty lucky to get a table right away because the entire restaurant was full not 20 minutes later. (I will definitely be making a reservation next time.) We were immediately greeted by a cheerful, handsome young man named Riley. He was an excellent server and offered us many great suggestions. He appeared to have a handful of tables but was very attentive to us and although it was busy, he never failed to stop by our table with a warm smile. We started with the Clam "Chowda" which was fantastic. Tasted just like it was from Boston. Riley mentioned that they're very well known for their award winning original lobster roll and lobster mac and cheese so my husband and I split both. They were simply amazing. Both were filled with large chunks of very fresh-tasting lobster and good portions too. I can't wait to come back and try the other lobster roll. My husband ordered us the cheesecake, which Riley was so kind to put a candle in after we told him it was my birthday. The atmosphere was fun and casual for being a seafood restaurant.
