We found the restaurant to be very inviting and not too loud. We had ordered we ordered a beer, a cocktail and one mocktail. All of them tasted great but the mocktail cost $1 less than the cocktail and was all ice. We ordered the lobster guacamole. What a joke! For $25, you get two little slivers of lobster and a half cup of meh guac. Totally overpriced!! Looking back we feel a little ripped off. Sunday afternoon. Party of four. Three of us were not happy with our orders. Ceviche returned because shrimp was raw (? Not enough acid?) The salmon on my salad had an off taste and the salad was swimming in the dressing. The farmhouse salad was missing greens and the butternut squash was not properly cooked. We did have two orders of the $4 shrimp as our meals left much to be desired. The updated menu was missing coleslaw and fried tomatoes (our typical favorite appetizers, so we didn't order appetizers.)Such a disappointing experience . As one member of our group was treating us, we really didn't want to send back more food but even she said on the way out that the $4 shrimp was the only good thing served other than the water and soda. It wasn't that busy. Maybe a new cook in the kitchen, or one that didn't feel like working that day. It will take a while before we risk going back. read more

Went for their Sconnies Fish Fry. It's a Wisconsin tradition and this was authentic. Real perch cooked to perfection. It came with cajun fries and slaw. However I being a weirdo requested no Cajun on my fries and they complied and let me know it was know problem. We were a large group and seated outside on the patio and our waiter went above and beyond to give us excellent service. They served us authentic perch which is getting harder to find but amazing they found it. We also had oysters and peel and eat shrimp as an appetizer. They were also really good. Stopped in for dinner around 9 pm on a Friday with our company from out of town. We were greeted when entered and seated within five minutes. Once seated we were served water by a friendly person....honestly the best person we interacted with here. Our waitress came over shortly after we were seated and took our drink order. After waiting for a little over 15 minutes we finally stopped someone because our waitress was nowhere to be found. This person was able to track her down and she showed up shortly after. When the waitress came to the table she came with the three ordered drinks and said it takes 15 minutes for the drinks to be made. We did not get an apology and this waitress wore a facial expression and spoke in a way we perceived as rude. We were finally able to order our food after being ready for a while and when our food came out it was cold and the Brussels sprouts burnt. We all were disappointed with our experience. read more

Came for restaurant week with friends to the Bloomington location. This was my first time trying Smack Shack but had heard great things. The flavor profile of the menu items was fantastic, for the first course I had the jumbo shrimp avocado toast, second course was the braised lamb po' boy, and third course was their key lime pie. Everything tasted great, I just wished there was more of it. The first and third courses came in miniature sizes (avo toast was only half of a piece) and the key lime pie was a decent sized portion but it wasn't the same in terms of value or portion as listed in their main menu. This is the first time I've gone to restaurant week where they served miniature portions. The cost was $35 and it didn't quite feel equitable like it does at other restaurants because of the smaller portions. The taste of everything was really great, just wish the portion sizes were the same as on the menu like other restaurant week vendors. I absolutely love Smack Shack. It can go head to head with any restaurant with the quality of their seafood. Almost every time I go I end up ordering the same thing, one of their lobster rolls; however, on this trip I went out of my comfort zone and tried something new - which I didn't regret. Although, I did get a bite of a lobster roll from someone at the table that was kind enough to let me at least scratch that itch. To drink I took a look at their specials and saw they had a Weizen Doppelbock from WarPigs called Divine Huntress. That is a style you don't see very often, so I had to order it. Aromas of banana with just a touch of clove of vanilla make you feel like you are sipping banana bread due to the darker malts. Creamy, but not thick mouthfeel.  For an app we all shared the Lobster Poutine - this is a must if you are at Smack Shack. Their cajun seasoned fries are topped with squeaky cheese curds, fresh chunks of lobster claws, and taleggio gravy. Whoever thought to put lobster claw on poutine deserves a medal in my opinion. For my dinner, I tried one of their monthly specials - Soft Shell Crab BLT. A crispy Chesapeake Bay Soft Shelled Crab is layered with Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, and Tartar. It is a classic BLT with high end ingredients with delicious fried crab (the meat itself is amazing) and their homemade zingy tartar sauce. The bacon is thick and house smoked and rounds out the profile of the BLT. Of course this is served on a delicious toasted bun.  If ever needing seafood I recommend trying Smack Shack. This place is so overpriced and overrated. Been here twice and still can't find anything I enjoy her. The seafood that they serve is ok and I shouldn't have had high expectations coming from the north's east and the fresh seafood we are use to. Review of their Restaurant Week Winter 2023 menu. Have been eating their lobster roll since the early humble beginnings back when they were a food truck in NE Mpls. Many years later they are still the only spot for lobster roll. The rolls are not exactly the same as before as I notice the buns are not the toasted brioche but still tasty. The apps size are actually decent for the restaurant week. The tuna lettuce wraps delicious. The lobster rolls (up charge but worth it) came with Cajun fries (ok). For desserts, the key lime was not good (not sure if that is their usual key lime from the regular menu). Large chocolate cookie was good and came out warm (appreciated that extra effort). Fried whole snapper was only thing I would have passed on given it's $49. Sauce was slightly bitter and slaw was not crisp plus plantain chips were not fresh tasting (was nicely thin though). Happy hour menu looks good so will have to take advantage of the bargain sometime. read more

We were craving seafood and I have driven by this place multiple times so we decided to give this place a try on a Sunday evening. Hostess greeted us right away and we were able to walk right in and get a table. The decor of this place reminds me of muted New England fair. They keep it plain and simple and let the food and drinks do the talking. I'm OK with that, as long as the lobster rolls are good! We sampled the menu since our kids tagged along. My son is a great critic of clam chowda so of course we had to try a bowl. I also ordered their lobster roll special - a Hawaiian version of their house roll. My wife is a fan of anything scallops so she ordered their scallop dish. We also are suckers for good Brussel sprouts so got a side of those as well. Upon getting our food, I was absolutely shocked on how small my wife's plate portion was. At almost $40 a plate, she had four scallops smaller than the size of a half dollar on top of a smear of acorn squash puree and apple and pomegranate relish. Alright, the scallops were delish and that squash puree was amazing but geez... acorn squash is dirt cheap, at least give us more of that if you can't afford to throw another scallop on the plate. Yikes, that plate was a ripoff. Good thing my wife paid another $8 for the side of brussel sprouts or she would have been left hungry. My lobster roll on the other hand was pretty decent. I was delightfully surprised by the heftiness of the sandwich, they really packed that full of lobster which is always a good thing. The clam chowder was also a home rum, classic New England cream chowder with big chunks of clams. It was just like we were in Boston or Maine enjoying a warm bowl of delight. The milk bread can be skipped, it was just basic sandwich bread slices. For the price, I'm not quite so sure about this place. I know that living in MN, you have to pay a premium for fresh seafood but I shouldn't be robbed for it either. If we would have not experienced the scallop dish, this would probably be a five star review but I can't forgive the stinginess of that dish. I will settle this review with a four because that lobster roll and chowder were pretty darn good. read more

Attended my spouses work dinner/celebration here and the experience was great. The atmosphere was upscale while also being relaxed and inviting. It wasn't a busy Thursday which was surprising. Staff were attentive, thorough and there was a great display of teamwork throughout our whole event. We enjoyed a variety of cocktails and all were delicious. My favorite was the BOULEVARDIER which essentially a play on an old fashioned with a bit of Campari. It was warm with a hint of fruit and definitely a new favorite. My spouse did the CHEECH and that was a sneaky one. Easy to drink with a hint of spice with the soothing passion fruit flavor made this cocktail a repeat order of the night. Dinner we enjoyed their BLT wedge salad, 1-1/2 lb main lobster and flat iron steak with the Brussel sprouts and rosemary potatoes. Everything was phenomenal. I could probably eat the Brussel Sprouts for every meal- the honey w/ Parmesan really made these too good to be true. I was perusing places to dine while in the Twin Cities and was looking at Mpls St. Paul Magazine. It let me know that it was Restaurant Week, which is the equivalent to Winterlicious or Summerlicious in the greater Toronto area. Participating restaurants had prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner. It listed Smack Shack. I had to go and experience two firsts in a single visit. I have had Smack Shack bookmarked for at least a good year. If a place offers lobster rolls, I must drop by. I booked a reservation through Open Table for Tuesday night. Done! It was a warm day. It was 26°C when I left the hotel. It was the last time that I wore shorts and a t-shirt out this year. Ah, what memories! There was plenty of parking at this Smack Shack in Bloomington. I parked and walked over to the eatery. It was windy, but still nice. I was greeted by two female staffers. I indicated that I had a reservation at 6 pm. I was immediately taken to my table. I had Jess as my server. She was awesome. She answered all my questions throughout my stay. I got to enjoy the following items off the menu: - Lobster mac and cheese - Original lobster roll - Key lime pie - Chocolate chip cookie - Diet Coke I got a Diet Coke and a glass of water to start. The former was icy and hit the spot. I got a refill during my meal without prompting for one. Staff were extremely attentive. The water was chilled and perfect. The lobster mac and cheese was my starter, and it was divine. The elbow macaroni was cooked perfectly. It had huge chunks of lobster meat with a light, flavourful cheese sauce. It was comforting and a wonderful start to my meal. The main event was the original lobster roll. It was huge! I had to figure out my gameplan to tackle eating it. The milk bread was nicely toasted. Lots of huge chunks of lobster meat were in the filling, with a balanced mix of mayo, cucumbers, and tarragon. Fantastic! It came with what felt like an endless number of fries. They came hot out of the fryer. They were yummy to start, but there were so many that I had to leave about half of them on my plate. I got the key lime pie for dessert. Jess said that it was a round, small portion. It was fabulous and she was right. If you love a tart lime pie in your life, you have found it here. I also appreciated the portion size, although I wanted to have more because it was exceptionally yummy. I got a Betty and Earl's chocolate chip cookie to go. It was another first for me. Delicious! The cookie alone caused me to get more Betty and Earl's goodies at Kowalski's, which is a gourmet grocery store. You can get an ice cream sandwich made with these cookies at Smack Shack. I may need to return to experience this dessert alone. I paid with a credit card. This place doesn't have a mobile payment machine. My server had to swipe it at her payment kiosk and return with paper receipts. I tipped and signed. It was easy. I used the washroom before I left. It's at the back of the restaurant, behind the bar. It was clean and nice. I had a wonderful experience here. I've had excellent lobster rolls in the Twin Cities. Smack Shack is no exception. The food was incredible. Three of us ordered shrimp seafood boils for $35 and they come out on a regular plate but were surprisingly delicious and filling. I have eaten at the Smack Shack in the North Loop, MSP airport and now Edina and I would say the Yelp average of 3.5 is just about right. It was okay but there are many more places I prefer and given the high cost of dining out it is doubtful I will return to Smack Shack. Smack Shack in Edina is at the old Fuddruckers location at the intersection of France and 494. There is plenty of parking in their lot. They have outdoor seating and a sort of indoor/outdoor porch where we sat which was very pleasant. Service was fine. Noise levels are average. The food is okay. They bill themselves as a seafood restaurant specializing in lobster. Several in our party of 8 had the signature lobster roll. As others have noted the lobster is fairly tasteless and bland but expensive. The fresh lobster was better - had not been frozen - but was very pricey. Seafood is difficult particularly here in the Midwest where it often is either frozen poorly or not really fresh. It is also very difficult not to over cook. I had the jambalaya. It did not have a Louisiana taste but wasn't bad. There was a lot so I brought a good bit home which I later tossed. The fried green tomatoes app was excellent, the calamari average and the peel your own shrimp were sub par. All in all nothing special. read more

Finally made it to a smack shack. It was great because we made it in time for the last hour of happy hour. The happy menu was decent with a good variety of options and price range. Admittedly, this is going to be a biased review. This is my first time to this location (I regularly go to the downtown North Loop location) and I was here for a Sunday midday meal on a free ticket from Yelp, specifically for this weekend's celebratory Lobsterfest. I love Yelp, I love Smack Shack, and I love weekend brunch so I'm sure it would have been great regardless but anytime you combine the words "free" and "lobster" into an event description, 5-stars are going to be a guaranteed result from me. There is a nice big parking lot (free parking) which simply sets the stage for a good time. The staff were in a celebratory mood and one of the greeters was in character with a lobster suit on checking us in. Seating was on the patio or just inside the covered semi-patio area and it was first-come, first-served to find a table. They had spaced out available tickets and arrival times so that there was plenty of seating for everyone and they had limited the number of walk up tickets available to keep the crowd manageable. My entry pass was worth $75 (actually $150 because it was a +1 event) and got you a traditional lobster boil with all the fixings (corn, sausage, potatoes, cole slaw, and drawn butter) plus 2 drink coupons. The drink coupons were worth $7 each and got you some good tap beers, hard seltzers, a House Hurricane, or soft drinks. You could buy more of these tickets a la carte but only 1 lobster boil pass per person was issued. It was nice because you could use the drink tickets for a burger or a bratwurst off the grill in the corner should you be a lobster non-believer. (Not sure why you would go to a Lobsterfest if you don't like lobster but at least the grill guys made sure that there was something to eat for everyone except for maybe a PETA vegan.) Overall, such a great way to spend a Fall Sunday afternoon with some fun people and a tasty meal. Thank you Yelp and Smack Shack for awarding me the privilege to attend. I got the conneticut style and remember it being a bit better when I had it at the airport location as well as the north loop location. The fries had a cajun kick which was nice. This place definitely hits the spot if you're craving lobster rolls or seafood in general! I always order the Connecticut style lobster (warm lobster) with the milk bread. It never disappoints. We tried two new things the last time we went, the asparagus with fish side and beignets for dessert. The asparagus was okay and the beignets were a disgrace, tasted like a thick fried donut hole smothered in tons of powdered sugar. I was pretty disappointed knowing that the waitress said theyre pretty good. Either way, I'm always going to come back for the lobster roll since those always hit the spot. It was my birthday and my wife and I took a walk around Normandale Lake before our weekly "Try a new restaurant on a Saturday lunch" They opened a new Smack Shack in Bloomington a couple of months ago to replace the Fuddrucker's hamburger place that had been there forever. We sauntered in and the establishment was huge! The bar was really cool and we were seated by the host, since the two hostesses were busy taking reservations on the phone. The did say, they would help us in a sec. We sat down at a booth and I ordered a Modist Dream Weaver IPA. It took a few minutes, but I eventually got it. Our server was super cool though. She was very helpful in deciding what to get and explaining the menu. I ordered the Connecticut roll, which is a warm version of the lobster roll and I asked to sub a salad for the side fries. My wife ordered the house salad with a side of blue cheese. The meal was an 11 out of 10. The bread was perfectly toasted and buttered and the lobster was super tasty and not too covered in butter. I am paying for lobster and that is what I got. If I wanted butter, put it on the side to dip in. They did such a perfect job. The salads were wonderful. Super fresh and just the cream of the crop. Mmmm my first impression is I don't have any plans to visit this location again. The guy who was the host or working the front of the house wasn't the most pleasant person. My niece & I walked in & were greeted & he asked where we preferred to be sat. I suggested wherever happy hour is (dtwn location it's only the bar). His response was it's the entire restaurant, just tell me where you want to sit. Tone goes along way as well. If I weren't so tired & thrown by his demeanor, I would have walked out. I did mention to my niece that he must be having a bad day with a tone like that. He was much more pleasant when we left.... thanked as for stopping by. Went to Smack Shack in Bloomington for restaurant week lunch - Haven't been there since it first opened, but we were regulars to their food truck and the 318 Bar where they had a kitchen before going brick and mortar on their own. Disappointing, the Lobster roll was an upcharge even at the Restaurant Week pricing.The bun was over toasted, and actual lobster meat minimal. Back in the food truck days it had a soft buttery , lightly toasted bun ! And you would swear there was a full lobster jammed in that bun. The lobster macaroni and cheese was also spartan on lobster and had corn mixed in to hide the lack of meat. Guess I'll go back to the other two food truck lobster options in town if I have a hankering for a real lobster roll. read more

Teetering between a 3.9 and a 4. I've been to the north loop location too and that one is a tad bit better and seems to have super fresh ingredients. I got the lobster Cobb, the lobster portions were a lot more generous than I was anticipating so I was satisfied with that (esp since it was only $2 more than the price of adding jumbo shrimp). The Cobb had good flavor and textures but could have had a tad bit more acidity and the grilled milk bread seemed a tiny bit stale- other than that a solid salad. My husband got the Connecticut lobster roll and the lobster portion seemed really generous esp compared to other establishments we've been to for around the same price. All in all a solid choice that could improve a bit on their freshness on ingredients, but I'd probably go back to the north loop next time. read more
