My friends and I checked out Small Giant a couple months ago and we were very disappointed. Unfortunately nothing we ordered, food or drink really wow'd us. Which was made even more disappointing as the prices were pretty high. Two friends tried the french onion soup and it was so bad they had to send it back which is very un-typical for this group - we will almost always just stick it out but it was nearly inedible. The pizza was also just really bad. It looked like it might be okay but once we dug in it was very soggy and flavorless. Small Giant is the perfect spot to grab a beer and bites located on water street. Pretty much a smaller menu but it was just what we needed while in the area. The OG burger was a pretty good burger and everyone enjoyed their food as well. The trays were a bit small so i felt constricted. We had a great time at Small Giant bar. We actually were able to walk in with no wait. Our waitress was super helpful about gluten-free menu options for me. I opted for a club sandwich and salad with no bread. It was very delicious. The salad was huge, and the sandwich was big enough to share. My husband's food *smash burger and tots) was looking immaculate. He has no food allergies, so he can eat whatever he wants. We originally came in for the pizza, but it was sold out, but we will be back. As far as I know, there is no GF option for the pizza, so it would be just for him. Cute spot - small so does fill up fast but we were able to get a table outside right away. The food was good, the Brussels sprouts being the hit. The spicy marg was very delicious. Service was okay - he did his best. I did see many other tables be sat and no server for 15 plus minutes which lead them to get up and leave. That seems to be biggest complaint of the spot. We love this place! The bartenders are always amazing and do a wonderful job of mixing up cocktails if you want to go off-menu. It's a small place, but never difficult to grab a spot, especially if you come mid-day after brunch. We were pleased to find out they were even showing the soccer game when we came Sunday after having brunch elsewhere! We have not tried the food yet, but we always say how good the menu looks and have peeked at other people's plates. Always looks good! Of the group of us we've tried at least half the drinks on the menu and we have not had a bad one yet! In the clouds is very good! Went on a very busy Friday evening with a medium sized group. Our server Julissa was amazing. Even with the restaurant being extremely busy, she was very attentive and did a great job explaining the menu to all newbies. The kung pao Brussels were pretty nice! So that's why it gets stars. The rest of the experience was NASCAR pile up bad. I saw a sign outside the door that said "Columbus style pizza" - so I asked the hostess what that was. She told me she had only worked there two weeks. Ok, fair, Columbus style pizza was clearly the special of the day. LOL! No! It's the restaurant's speciality and takes up most of the menu! How does she not know? The pizza was... fine. The brunch was pretty awful. The berries and biscuit was one single biscuit with some mashed blueberries. The avocado toast was as bland as mushy cardboard. But the best car crash was the service. Friendly, but unbelievably slow. There were only 6 tables with people by the end of the brunch, and three servers... and we barely saw them. It was impossible to get anything you asked for - no drink refills. Two tables sat down and eventually left due to no service. I would recommend this place if you are so stoned that nothing matters and you can people watch through the great large windows onto Water Street. read more

As an Ohio transplant, I had to check it out. When I first read there was an "Ohio style pizza" coming to Tampa with ingredients imported from Columbus (that part made me chuckle) I just had to know if what they were recreating brought me back to my roots. Came on a Thursday night and there was quite a crowd - probably could've gotten a table but we chose the bar instead. Can't speak for their cocktails because we kept it simple with our drinks but the bartenders were friendly and service was great. As for the "Ohio style pizza" ... amazing! We got the OG, pepperoni. If you've never had the pizza they are replicating, I give it a 10 on a pizza scale. However, I'd score it a 7 in comparison to what they serve up in Ohio. They got the square slices down, the sauce is a little on the sweet side which I'm a huge fan of, thin crust and delicious pepperoni. My lower rating is because the crust did not have cornmeal on the bottom which gives it an extra crunch and not every pepperoni had the crispy edges that they're known for. Overall a fun experience and a touch of nostalgia. I hope they do well and Tampa bay can keep this little slice of Ohio around for a long time! read more

Small Giant is one of the newest additions to the Water Street lineup. We popped in for lunch and drinks. It is very clean, almost a modern industrial style decor. The hosts and server were very friendly and on top of things. I had the In The Clouds to drink, and my husband had a Smoked Old Fashioned with Eagle Rare. For lunch we had a bunch of their options from the "Share" section of the menu. I ordered a French Onion Soup (not bad, but not my favorite), and we had the Pretzel Sticks with beer cheese, Cheese Curds, and Cheesesteak Eggrolls. The food was yummy and all of that filled us up! This place was a cool new bar on water Street that we were dying to check out. My wife and I went on a Friday night. It was really busy but they were able to seat us pretty quickly. For appetizers we got some fries and cheese curds. Both I would say were not the best. Excited to have a new restaurant open within walking distance. Our meal was a very impromptu decision after finding out we had the wrong night for our hockey game. Staff was very warm and inviting! It had pickles and a simple sauce hidden in there. It was a dang solid burger. Planning to go back and order the pizza (which they import the dough from Ohio) and hoping to bump up the stars. I went to Small Giant for the first time with a friend for an early dinner. This is a smaller restaurant and it was pretty empty at 5pm. The prices are a little steep for food and drinks but this is the Water St area so that's to be expected. I got a lager beer and the mushroom burger with tots and it was good. I wouldn't say it was a ground breaking burger but it was tasty. The real star for me was the side order of kimchi brussel sprouts. Small giant is a great option that's been added to water street! In the hustle of bustle of the bougie strips new additions I found it nice to have an option for more casual drinks and dinner. I ordered the Turkey club, which just as an FYI isn't deli sliced meat. It was good just not my personal favorite since I do find myself leaning towards thin deli slices for sandwiches. Just a texture thing for me I guess! I got the brussel sprouts as a side which were cooked and seasoned with salt perfectly. A fair amount too. I was with friends and we shared the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls which were to die for, and they got the cheeseburger and French dip which I both think were a step up from the club. I am always excited when new places are opening up in my neighborhood and populating the vacant storefronts of Water Street. On this particular afternoon we had a choice between the new Wagamama and this place and decided to stop here as there was no crowd and the outside and inside areas were readily available. The hostess seemed confused to find an inside table for three, even though the entire section in front of her was empty and there was only one other table seated inside the restaurant. The manager who came by told her to put us at one of the open tables at the bar. Our server did take a while to come get our drink and food orders, despite us being the only table in his section. During our time there he spent most of his time near the hostess stand talking to his co-workers and on his phone. Service would have been acceptable had they been busy, but it was strangely quiet for an afternoon so there was no reason for it to be this lackluster. Foodwise, we ordered for the table to share. The meat lovers pizza was decent and about the only thing I found decent. We ordered loaded tots but regular tots came out. There was no offer to put in the correct order, so we just kept them and they had a distinct aftertaste to them. The wings were a generous portion, but the breading was very salty. Given the quality of eateries opening up in this area, it may be worthwhile for this place to consider how their service stacks up to their neighbors and the quality of the food products they are serving. read more
