I've been having a hard year - have lost two dogs this year. The first dog I lost, I got cremated through the business the hospital just sent the body to and my second dog Pacino, passed away at my home. So here I sat with my dog that had passed away and started yelping cremation. I had fully planned to bury her in the backyard but realized that plan maybe wasn't the best plan...I came to yelp and found small paws - first thing, their phone lines are open past 5... it was 8:30 and they answered. I let them know I was on a budget and they offered me a yelp discount. They were so caring and just know exactly what to say. next they literally picked her up at 10 pm same day. I was so grateful because I felt weird having her in her current state. From pick up to drop off, they're so personable and caring with you, the situation and your pet. the package I purchased included a beautiful poem and printed photo, ink prints of her paws, her ashes in a velvet bag and a hand written card. last thing was I had agreed on a date for drop off and messed up! When my boy Thor passed away on Mother's Day (on a Sunday ), he was available to come right away , as I could not get on the phone to make these phone calls my mom found him . We decided to go with him over the few other company's , and I'm beyond grateful I did because he shows he cares for your pets as if they were his ! I had my boy Thor for 11 years old and he was more than a pet , but yet part of the family ! A few months later his mom Precious passed away at 16 years old . The worst possible thing happened when I least expected it and was devastating to lose my best friend. Was calling places for like 40 min and only got machines. I was dreading going through the process and still trying to come to terms with what happened even I found small paws, it was vastly different. Romo answered immediately was comforting and spoke very eloquently. I was trying to get the process over quickly and realized my family wanted to come say goodbye as well, Romo was very understanding and gave me the time I needed to square everything away. I lost my precious Lily in the early hours of Christmas Day and while being upset, didn't know what to do. I called Small Paws, not expecting to get a response since it was a holiday, and Tony answered and was very compassionate and patient with me. He came within the hour to pick up my sweet baby. Tony was so nice and understanding and he truly cared both for me and my pet. He walked me through exactly what to expect and everything that I would be receiving. I was also able to do a payment plan of half the cost up front and the other half when I got Lily back, which I truly appreciate since I, financially, was not expecting this cost at the moment. A phone call at 730am on Sunday saying my Nana's dog passed was a jolt awake moment. The place I've used in the past isn't open on Sunday's nor is his vet. A quick Google search gave me this number and that they were open. While I called, I started thinking how I was going to get this very large dog into my vehicle to take him for after care. Romo answered the phone and immediately put me at ease and I could feel the empathy through the phone. He said could pick Buck up in 1-2 hours. He came to the house. Losing our dog of 13 years was extremely painful, but Tony at Small Paws made this difficult time a little easier with his compassion, sense of urgency, and kindness. Our dog passed away at home at 4:30 am on Sunday morning and by 7am Tony personally arrived to pick him up. Tony had the perfect blend of demeanor and timing in asking questions or providing information and details. The process of choosing the right package was super easy and it felt like Tony was trying to help and make the best out of a difficult situation. Never felt I was being sold to. He had the right equipment to load and transport our dog with respect and dignity, which reinforces what this company is all about. He was very open and extremely articulate in explaining each step in the process and the overall timeline and did so in a manner that I could hear and process given the emotional state I was in. Throughout the week and a half process, he was incredibly communicative and understanding, keeping us updated every step of the way. A week and a half later, we received our pup's ashes in a beautiful urn, and we couldn't have asked for a more thoughtful and seamless experience. This was much faster than the initial timeframe. If you ever find yourself in this difficult situation, I cannot recommend Tony and Small Paws enough. Small Paws Cremations is a beautiful business with a human touch sent from pet heaven. Tony and his team provide all the graces worthy of a 5 star review in the most difficult of times for a dog owner. When our shih tzu Margeaux passed away, Tony arrived with expediency, promptly responding to all of our communications with him to take Margeaux with her little blanket within an extremely short turnaround time period. He let us know the entire cremation process would take approximately two weeks, which was already a fast turnaround, and he even returned her ashes to us closer to one week rather than 2 weeks after more excellent communication when it came time to return her ashes. By the grace of God, Tony just so happened to return Margeaux to us when I was home for the weekend with my parents (I normally live out of state), and just as a rainbow appeared over our house during a brief stoppage in thunderstorms on an otherwise rainy day. (For reference, our dog Margeaux used to look out our living room window and I have a few photos in my camera roll associating her with rainbows. We can't make this up!) Tony and his team made sure to add the human touch in every way possible--from being adamant to return Margeaux's ashes via hand-delivery instead of mail, to writing us a handwritten letter of condolence, to returning Margeaux's little blanket completely cleaned and washed, and giving us Margeaux's paw prints in a certificate as well as a bamboo ornament which came free of charge. He let us know he's an animal-person as well when we apologized for having so many doggy diapers in our living room, and when we saw the perfectly-made urn with our requested photo of Margeaux on it, we all teared up a little inside. Tony let us know he can't see himself doing anything else in this life after providing this service for over 20 years, and we are so thankful for every ounce of thought and grace that he and his team put through this entire otherwise difficult process. So sad that I'm posting this review, but also extremely happy to do it as Small Paws Cremations made an extremely sad situation memorable in a good way. I found them on Yelp after reading such great reviews. I went downstairs to feed our guinea Giuseppe (aka Sep Sep) only to realize that he had gone to guinea pig heaven. Rommel took care of EVERYTHING even picking up Sep Sep by hand and holding him close to him as he took him to his truck. Our 15yr old daughter was in tears, yet Rommel's handling of Giuseppe really made things a little better. He let me see where he would be in the truck which was a nice, comfy space and there was so much communication at every step. Everything was done to perfection and all of the small details made my daughter associate Sep Sep's passing as a positive experience not a traumatic one. We will have his service for our family next week and we will read the lovely poem that was included. I hope I never have to use the services again, but I wouldn't not hesitate to call if I did. No one wants to use Romo's service willingly, but there will come a time when all pet owners will need a gentle touch when dealing with such a difficult and emotionally taxing situation. I recently took my daughter to college and came home to find her cat had passed away while I was dropping her off. It was an extremely emotional time, with my daughter hundreds of miles away. All I wanted was to cuddle with her annoying cat, and I came home to find that she had suddenly passed away. As you can guess, I was devastated. After composing myself, I called Romo, and he was able to come out in a few hours to pick up our cat, Piper. He was extremely understanding while I stood there and sobbed uncontrollably.
